Optimering av packkonfiguration inom varuflöde / Optimization of pre pack in the supply chain

Muhieddine, Tamara, Suneson, Julia January 2016 (has links)
An increasing number of retail groups is facing problems with optimizing distribution and replenishment of products to serve stores. Lead times in the fashion industry are long and dealers often have to plan their purchases several months in advance for the coming seasons. The products are packed in production before they are sent to the central warehouse. Decisions about the pack configuration are made in connection with the purchase order. By packaging multiple stock-keeping units (SKUs) together, the efficiency increase and the costs in the supply chain can be reduced, while misallocation costs may arise. The master thesis is performed at the Venue Retail Group, which is a leading group in the Nordic region within the accessories, travel equipment and shoes. The objective of the paper is to identify the optimal pack configuration in order to generate increased turnover sales within the supply chain for own production synthetic bags. In this paper the pack problem is formulated as an optimization problem. A model is designed to determine the optimal packing order quantities that satisfy every store category's forecasted demand with the goal to minimize the total costs. By mapping product flow and identifying costs related to pack configuration the paper suggest a change of Venue Retail Groups existing pack strategy to achieve the objective.

[en] CONTRIBUTION TO SYSTEMIZE THE ANALYSIS OF THE DYNAMIC OF A SUPPLY CHAIN: A PROPOSAL FOR A METHOD OFANALYSIS AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE AUTOMATIVE INDUSTRY / [pt] CONTRIBUIÇÃO PARA SISTEMATIZAR A ANÁLISE DA DINÂMICA DE CADEIAS DE SUPRIMENTO: PROPOSTA DE UM MÉTODO DEANÁLISE E A SUAAPLICAÇÃO À INDUSTRIA AUTOMOTIVA

LUIZ FELIPE RORIS RODRIGUEZ SCAVARDA DO CARMO 19 December 2003 (has links)
[en] One of the greatest paradigm changes in business management is that business units or individual organizations no longer compete as isolated units or single organizations anymore, but rather as supply chains. If each business unit of the supply chain is acting in a way to optimize its own value, there will be discontinuities at the interfaces and unnecessary costs will result. If an integrated view is taken instead, there may be opportunities in the supply chain where additional expense or time in one segment can save tremendous expense or time in another segment. This is the foundation of the supply chain competition logic. In this context, Supply Chain Management (SCM) has been recognized as a new major forefront for effective competition. This dissertation calls supply chain dynamic the way the business units that take part of the same supply chain are associated aiming at SCM. In this context, the goal of this dissertation is to present a model that systematizes the analysis of the relevant elements of the supply chains dynamics. These SCM relevant elements have implications that are common to the different supply chains that belong to the same industrial segment, and implications that are specific to the chains of the different products that belong to this segment. These elements analysis are done first in the automotive industry and then in selected supply chains of this industry responsible for the creation, production, and distribution of a luxurious compact sport model produced by a European Vehicle Manufacturer. The main contribuitions of this doctoral dissertation are: the elaboration of a method that enables the dynamic analysis of a supply chain under the SCM perspective; and its application to the supply chains of four plants of a vehicle manufacturer model in order to illustrate the methods use. Within the method s application it was possible to obtain and to analyze the dynamics of the four existenting chains for a given vehicle model. It was also possible to conclude that the chains present distinct developmental stages of SCM. The different acting forces in each chain influences the development of specific SCM capabilities in some chains and not in others. The same happens with the presence or absence of the SCM enablers in the different links of each chain s business processes.

Quality Management and Supplier Integration¡XA Study of Manufacturing Industry in Taiwan

Lu, Jing-Yah 05 January 2012 (has links)
Abstract In this globalized era, most industries will not be able to survive by simply optimizing internal structures and infrastructures based upon business strategy. The most successful manufacturers seem to be those that have carefully linked their internal processes to external suppliers and customers in unique supply chains. Quality management represents company-wide activities to improve the quality level of products and works through customer orientation, continuous quality improvement, employees¡¦ involvement, etc. to establish and sustain a competitive advantage. From a perspective of competitive strategy, quality is often seen as a source of differentiation. Quality improvement is an important issue influencing long-term viability of any business enterprise, especially manufacturing companies producing physical goods. A number of researchers suggest that better performance can be achieved by consolidating customer and supplier bases, removing unnecessary steps in the chain, speeding up information and material flows, and creating long-term partnerships with major customers and suppliers to leverage the capabilities of several companies in the chain. Recent years have seen growth in the importance of integration suppliers, manufacturers and customers. Effective integration of suppliers into supply chains serves as a key factor for some companies to gain competitive advantage. Supply chain integration refers to a formation of network encompassing elements of supply chain, which are the suppliers, customers and the company. This paper presents results of an empirical study on effect of quality management practices upon supply chain integration in Aerospace Industry manufacturing companies. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and regression analysis were conducted to test hypothesizes. This paper used six scales to measure different aspects of quality management including top management leadership for quality , small group problem solving , processes management, supplier involvement, information and feedback and customer forcus upon supply chain integration. Regression results indicated two external factors including supplier involvement, customer forcus have significant impact on supply chain integration, also will increase company competitive performance if all resourses have been adopted properly. For those four internal factors, such as management leadership for quality , small group problem solving , processes management, information and feedback doesn¡¦t have significant impact on supply chain integration.

The effect of supplier¡¦s expected cost by using the sharing sales information in VMI.

Chen, Chiu-Miao 19 August 2003 (has links)
Vendor managed inventory (VMI) is a form of automated replenishment under which a supplier takes responsibility for managing a customer¡¦s inventory levels for a given product or material. The promise of VMI was more efficient inventory management with less out-of-stock, improved sales and improved consumer satisfaction. Based on the sharing sales information, VMI makes suppliers reduce inventory and cost. Therefore, VMI is one of the most widely discussed initiatives for improving multi-firm supply chain efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the effect of supplier¡¦s expected cost by using the sharing sales information .We assume the underlying demand process faced by the retailer is ARMA(1,2). We model the supplier¡¦s delivery variance, optimal delivery-up-to level, and expected cost under three different levels of information sharing, namely no information sharing, partial information sharing, and total information sharing. Furthermore, we study the sensitivity analysis of supplier¡¦s delivery variance, optimal delivery-up-to level, and expected cost for the following four factors: lead-time l, correlation coefficient , tow-weights in ARMA(1,2), and , followed by numerical examples to verify our findings. The main results are as follows. 1¡B Information sharing stabilizes the supplier¡¦s delivery and reduces supplier¡¦s optimal delivery-up-to level as well as expected cost. 2¡B In each level of information sharing, there is positive effect to the supplier¡¦s delivery variance, optimal delivery-up-to level, and expected cost for every factor. 3¡B All the factors multiply the cost reduction effect contributed by increasing the level of information sharing. Among all, the lead time l and cause the most significant effect.

The firm In this research is a trading company that has been exploiting and marketing hi-tech materials and equipments since it was founded in 1968. From 1980, the firm has been working on the globalization arrangement and the requirement to expand the company's operation scope. The overseas subsidiaries were established in south-eastern Asia, Hong Kong, and China. In today's growing complexity of global networks of supply chains and hypercompetitive business environments, firms are confronted with the need to manage supply chain activities across functions and between firms. Yet the overseas subsidiaries might not certainly get enough resources and support from their headquarter to conquer the challenges, even though they usually face tough competition and greater customer scale especially in China. The profit center system is the major reason that obstructs the cooperation between the headquarter and the overseas subsidiaries. Some employees of the headquarter just care their own business region, instead of assisting overseas subsidiaries to grow up together, and developing the strategies of the whole business group for the future. The findings show that a firm¡¦s cross-functional orientation (CFO) has positive effect on supply chain management (SCM) performance with empirical evidence. The conclusions are as below¡G 1. The cross-functional orientation (CFO) has remarkably positive effect on customer satisfaction. And the stronger factors that encourage CFO to enhance customer satisfaction are operation linkage and technology integration. 2. The cross-functional orientation (CFO) affects remarkably and positively on supply chain management (SCM) responsiveness. And operation linkage, participative management, and technology integration are stronger factors that encourage CFO to enhance supply chain responsiveness. 3. The supply chain management (SCM) responsiveness has remarkably positive effect on customer satisfaction. 4. The customer satisfaction of the headquarter and overseas subsidiaries influences each other.

[en] RISK MANAGEMENT IN ERP IMPLANTATION PROJECT / [pt] GERENCIAMENTO DE RISCOS EM PROJETOS DE IMPLANTAÇÃO DE SISTEMAS ERP

MARCANTONIO GIUSEPPE MARIA CARLO FABRA 27 June 2007 (has links)
[en] The advance of information technology (IT) in recent years has allowed companies to execute operations that previously were unimaginable. The adoption of integrated systems has been common in large and medium- sized companies world-wide as they have sought to integrate all aspects of their business, such as planning, purchasing, sales, manufacturing, finance, control, and supply, with the objective of achieving greater agility and the power to make decisions. To take care of this necessity, ERP systems have emerged, which offer the potential for the fast development of these integrated systems. However, it is essential that the implementation of these projects is successful since they impact the company as a whole. Hence, effective risk management in projects of this nature is one of the critical factors of their success. However, appropriate risk management is seldom practiced in the majority of these projects. This work has the objective of developing a list of probable risks that may affect the success of these projects, with the intention of minimizing their impact, and assisting future implementations to plan properly to avoid these risks.

[en] WAREHOUSE DESIGN: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW / [pt] DESIGN DE ARMAZÉNS: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA DA LITERATURA

NAYARA NOGUEIRA DA COSTA 26 March 2013 (has links)
[en] The deployment of warehousing facilities is seen as a source of increased level of service and reducing costs along the supply chain. This master thesis aims to analyze the state of the art regarding the design of warehouses using the methodology of systematic literature review. The period of publication raised ranges from 1999 until 2011 and Science Direct was the electronic database explored. To guide the review a conceptual model was developed considering the decisions that are beyond the scope of the design of warehouses, which was called a framework. The framework is divided into three major parts. The first part, input, represents the decisions that precede the design and deployment of warehousing operations in a facility and which directly impact at this stage. The second part is the design and deployment, and brings the most important decisions to install a warehouse and what metrics are used to evaluate the performance of warehouse operations. Finally, the last part, output, representes the the final goal of designing a warehouse for the company. The way the framework is structured suggests that levels of decisions are interactive and can not be analyzed separately, a fact corroborated by the analysis of the studies found. Finally, it is expected that the present master thesis becomes a tool to warehouse design professionals, as well as support for future research on the subject.

Approche béhavioriste de l'intermédiation logistique : le rôle dynamisant du prestataire de services logistiques (PSL) / Behavioral approach of logistical intermediation : the dynamic role of logistics service provider (LSP)

Roveillo, Gérard 13 July 2015 (has links)
The goal of our research is to underline, from a behavioral angle, the increasing importance of logistical intermediation through the LSP’s dynamic role within supply chains. By digressing from its historical profession, the management of simple carriages to be specific, the LSP is moving towards high added value services, even new trades, which deeply transform the chains’ functioning. By falling within an exploratory logic, this research participates in enriching the previous works about LSP, mainly of a technical nature, through a behavioral approach. At first, the LSP is an actor which has his own goals and who develops a singular strategic behavior: it does not amount to be a simple operational performer of activities coming from an outsourcing required by shippers in search of a minimization of the costs. Such an approach, which has not been explored so far, enables a better understanding of the dynamic role of the LSP in supply chains, particularly in the French context. It comes out of the research that the LSP has acquired enough power to influence its functioning. It is rightly placed to get some value durably, in other words, to benefit from transfer of activities, skills and resources from the shippers.
