Barreiro González, María Soliña 23 May 2011 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the modern temporality through the 20’s European avant-garde cinema. This cinema picks up all the temporalities that have been rejected by the Illustrated idea of time as linear and progressive. As a consequence, this cinema systematically defies the Illustrated discursive construction and the historical comprehension that it elaborated during the Interwars period. Avant-garde cinema was a privileged means to study the modern time experience because it is a complex compendium of times and discontinuities. At the same time, the temporality is a key element to define and study the cinematographic avant-garde. This cinema is characterized by the exploration of movement, the experiments with the image, its lack of interest in narrativity and its interest on the real. It also proposes a subversion of the filmic field (and sometimes, also the social field). Avant-garde filmmakers did not construct an alternative temporal discourse but they organized a coherent uprising corpus based on the exploration of those diverse temporalities. They established the image as a method, the deconstruction of the instrumental rationalization of the visual dominion and they proposed that a new type of history and image emanates from the coexistence of the variety of temporal discourses.

Perceptual reports in fenêtre(s) and porte(s) nouns context. Semantic and pragmatic approach

Maëso Gardeil, Florence 08 November 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to explain why the inclusion of perceptual reports (PRs) in a literary narrative does not interfere with the comprehension of such narratives, despite when breaking their thematic progression.Narratological studies (Hamon, Adam and Petitjean) define descriptive texts as sequences characterised by correlated introductory and closing markers. Furthermore, research on evidentiality (Vogeleer) shows that PR describe a situation that is accessible in the space/time situation of a subject. PRs are thetics statements characterised by a lack of topic (Furukawa). In the written form, the left context of the PR may make up for the lack of topic by describing a situation that may be used to infer the place targeted by the perception (Emma s’approcha de la fenêtre) of a subject introduced earlier. Statements of this type are thus similar to represented speech and thought or RST.The classification of a corpus of PRs incorporating the nouns fenêtre(s) and porte(s), leads us to distinguish six PRs types among which represented perceptual reports (RPRs), are most frequent. In these sequences, when the first PR of the excerpt has no link to its left context, it describes a perceived situation accessible in the spatial/temporal situation of the subject that perceives it, which is therefore unknown until introduced into the fictitious world. The spatial and temporal coincidence of the subject and this situation may be noted in certain excerpts by a spatial or temporal prepositional phrase (PP) that is placed earlier in the first PR of the sequence and that is potentially framing (Charolles). This PP signals the point of view of the subject introduced earlier, denotes the target location or temporal location of the situation described in the PR and makes it possible to interpret all the PRs in the sequence. In the excerpts that do not mention a PP, the target location and time of the perceived situation are inferred once the first PR is introduced, with this inference validating all perceptual reports in the sequence. The topical break caused by the introduction of PRs signals, in all cases, the emergence of the point of view of a character introduced earlier.

Non-normative Family on Children's Television : Queering Kinship, Temporality and Reproduction on Steven Universe

Kozuchova, Paulina January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to examine queer aspects of the animated television show Steven Universe (2013-present), created by Rebecca Sugar and produced by Cartoon Network. Situating Steven Universe in the context of Cartoon Network and children’s animation in general, and drawing on queer theory, as well as feminist cultural studies and kinship studies, the thesis aims to contribute to understanding of non-normative family representation in children’s entertainment. Through a close reading of the material, the thesis explores how Steven Universe queers the notion of family. It focuses on the show’s depiction of kinship, temporality and reproduction, and examines how each of these aspects subverts reproduces different modes of normativity. In Steven Universe, the family of the main character, Steven, is depicted as socially unintelligible, and as a mixture of biological and chosen kinship, highlighting the importance of both. It places great emphasis on being accepted by one’s family and community, and I discuss how this message can be both empowering and undermining. Steven’s family mostly inhabits queer time and does not give in to chrononormative structures. However, I also explore and critically evaluate parts of the series in which queer temporality is provisionally replaced by chrononormativity and striving for maturity. Finally, Steven Universe queers reproduction, by defamiliarizing the notion of (hetero)sexual reproduction and providing other alternatives for reproduction and motherhood. In general, the depiction of family on Steven Universe is characterized by transgressing multiple dichotomies and by having a complex relationship to different modes of normativity, by both resisting them and engaging in them.

Salvador

Transit refugees : legalization struggles of Iranian asylum seekers in Van, eastern Turkey / Réfugiés en transit : les stratégies de légalisation des demandeurs d'asile iraniens à Van, l'Est de la Turquie

Biner, Zahide Özge 21 May 2012 (has links)
Despite the increasing number of people entering Turkey as asylum seekers, the Turkish state has maintained the “rule of geographical reservation” that does not allow non- European asylum seekers to remain in Turkey as refugees. Accordingly, the on-going asylum system does not offer refugee status for non-European asylum seekers, but merely provides a temporary status. So-called “Temporary Guest”, these individuals are only allowed to stay within the country until their resettlement in a third country has been arranged by the United Nations for High Commissariat of refugee. This research concerns itself with the study of the experiences of Iranian asylum seekers and refugees residing in Van, a border satellite city in Eastern Turkey, currently in the process of transition. It analyzes the experience of being a refugee and being “in transit” in a country geographically proximate to the country of one’s origin. It examine individuals’ legalization struggle within transitory, local, national and transnational context by focusing on interacted/intersected relationship between states, international refugee regime, informal actors and asylum applicants. In so doing, it suggest exploring the ways in which legality and temporality come to be so intricately related as to form one’s refugee experience in Turkey.

Forneck, Mara Betina January 2017 (has links)
The main objective of this study is to relate the teaching of History, the notions of time and the relations of temporality. The study occurred from the experience of elaborating the course of continuing formation The teaching of History, the notions of time and the relations of temporality and its application with the teachers of the municipal school network of the city of Arroio do Meio/RS. The intention was to discuss theoretical and methodological fundaments in a manner to correlate the topics and qualify the teachers practices in Basic Education. The research was developed based on observation and analysis of the materials produced by the participating teachers and the use of mechanisms from ethnographic studies, like the field notes. In this proposal, the concept of Historical Time was used, based on studies by the historian Reinhart Koselleck and his contributions, in order to complex the understanding of the relations of temporality. The intention of the formation was to make possible an analysis of the teaching plans, in a manner to problematize the concept of time that grounds the organization of classes and the school contents. By finalizing the application of the course of formation, it was possible to observe an enlargement of the understandings of the concepts in order to overcome the current model of teaching based on a linear and naturalized vision of History.

Adventisté sedmého dne mezi modernou a postmodernou / Seventh-Day Adventists between modernism and postmodernism

JETELINA, Bedřich January 2012 (has links)
This work reflects on how the Seventh-day Adventist Church meets the challenges of postmodernism, despite itself having its roots deep in the modern era. The first part deals with the origin of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the development of its dogma. It primarily focuses on the Thomas Reid?s philosophy of common sense and describes the Adventist statements of dogma that are typical of this church and were influenced by the philosophy of common sense. The second part analyses how this church deals with the challenges of the postmodern era. It describes the current categorisation of Adventist theology on the basis of the differing macro-hermeneutic of the individual streams that depend on how they view the relationship between God and time. It also indicates the practical impacts that these various approaches to church praxis lead to. The aim of this work is to be as objective as possible in describing the current situation and show the potential risks and solutions that the church and its members face. In the author?s opinion, an adequate response to the problems of Adventism in the postmodern era can be found in shifting the emphasis to a general Christian perspective and in redefining specifically Adventist teachings.

Os crimes no triângulo amoroso: uma discussão psicanalítica historicamente contextualizada a respeito do conceito de violenta emoção no Direito Penal Brasileiro / Crimes in the love triangle: a psychoanalytic discussion historically contextualized about the concept of violent emotion in Brazilian Criminal Law

Marília Etienne Arreguy 24 April 2008 (has links)
The following thesis has as its aim the advancement of an analysis of the Brazilian penal norms as they pertain to violent emotion, grounded on the study of the passionate criminal act. Its basis for study is a discussion concerning the psychic temporality of the act that sustains the distinctions within the juridical institution of violent emotion presented in articles 28; 65, III, c; 121 1 et 129 4 of the Brazilian Penal Code. From a genealogical construct, the historical antecedents of such laws were targeted and then interpreted in light of psychoanalytic concepts and contributions from social anthropology regarding the imaginary customs that nourish the profusion and judgment of crimes within the sphere of love. The work method hinged on a theoretical study in the deductive-constructive manner based on sources ranging from different theoretical/practical fields and on open interviews with jurists and specialists on criminology. The historical transformations of the trials indicate a transposition from the old indulgence towards criminals to todays appeals for the harshening of sentences, showing that justifying or punishing crimes of violent emotion in the sphere of love represents a symptom directly linked to a social context. The concept of violent emotion is not immune to theoretical simplifications, given the emphasis placed on the dimensions of conscious culpability within the penal law system, the predominance of interpretations linked to the psychic-physiological aspects of the drive, as well as the incipient weight placed on the unconscious, culturally determinant conditions of the criminal act among couples. In this manner, the text in the referred Articles may unduly serve for the lessening of sentences for crimes involving couples, just as the due attenuation of sentences may be overlooked when the defendant suffers from prolonged social and psychic privations comprised of a discontent often times dissociated from the time of the criminal act. Pointing out such limitations, one must recognize the importance of the existing reference to violent emotion as a generic means for criminal attenuation and criticize its use as a privilege for the lessening of sentences in crimes of impetus among couples. A psychoanalytic, historical study of the theme stresses the need to enhance the subjective responsibility tied to the realization of a psychopathological tendency, yet furthermore enhances the social responsibility in relation to crimes of passion, thus underscoring the importance of providing alternatives to the penal court answer in order to promote a careful interpretation of articles on violent emotion for the better understanding of the unconscious temporality inherent to these crimes in the penal context.

ATRAVESSAMENTO DE SABERES NOS ESTUDOS SOBRE A LINGUAGEM NO/DO BRASIL NOS ANOS 50 / KNOWLEDGE CROSSING IN STUDIES ABOUT LANGUAGE IN/OF BRAZIL IN THE FIFTIES

Schneiders, Caroline Mallmann 14 February 2011 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The issue of research on which we focus this study is based on a reflection around the discourse about linguistic knowledge production in/of Brazil in the fifties. Our central scope is in the understanding of temporality and discursive memory that constitute the scientific discourse about language of this conjuncture from the crossing of Linguistics disciplinary field knowledge. We are interested in this crossing, as it refers to a domain not yet institutionalized in the academic Brazilian context and because it was in a period that there were advances in studies around the Portuguese of Brazil. Thus, in our research, it was approached issues that emphasizes how and for to the scientific discourse around language features a combination with knowledge from different fields; seeking to examine, in particular, the operation of the crossing of Knowledge on Linguistics in this discourse, this crossing can be understood through the notion of transverse-speech (cf. Pêcheux, 2009 [1988]). In order to do that, we have as object of study two works by Serafim da Silva Neto: Introdução ao Estudo da Língua Portuguêsa no Brasil, 1st edition, 1950, and Introdução ao Estudo da Filologia Portuguêsa, 1st edition, 1956, which are significant to the situation in question, by inserting at two different times in the 50s. The first one is recognized as the best work about the Portuguese of Brazil, and the second one is considered a guide that was circulated in Language Courses at the time in question (cf. Penha, 2002). In this sense, we wrote in the view of History of Linguistic Ideas, linking it to theoretical and methodological principles of Discourse Analysis from French orientation, as it is developed in Brazil.

The political militant from the left-wing is the one that denies the state of current things, recovering a historic experience located far before its time and projecting a future beyond the incessant reproduction of the present relations. We chosen the Landless Workers Movement, not as study object, but as specific place where this consciousness is made and can be comprehended. The historic consciousness study of the landless militancy is, for us, the best starting point to understand the magnification of the historical time operated on the change of social relations lived inside an organization. The time division between before and after, as well as the history being understood as a progress isn t a natural given data, but a construction that obeys the contradictions of the present. It, therefore, must understand how the present lived by the militancy operates changes on the consciousness of time. From documents, reference books, formation notebooks and several materials produced by MST, we try to understand the way that the movement tells his history and lists with this wider experience of the struggle for the change of the current social order. Similarly, when we hear reports of history of several militants, we try to comprehend how this wider narrative re-orients the sight over history himself, over the experience of contradictions on before and after making the landless militant / O trabalho que segue dedica-se ao estudo da viv?ncia do tempo hist?rico pela milit?ncia pol?tica de nosso tempo.
