[pt] A tese Vidas negras, vidas literárias (1978-2020) tem como objetivo geral analisar a vida literária de escritores e escritoras negros brasileiros durante o período entre 1978 e 2020. Os marcos temporais e espaciais se justificam pela articulação entre ações literárias e ações políticas relativas ao tema: em 1978, foi criada a série literária Cadernos Negros e no mesmo período surgiu o Movimento Negro Unificado; já em 2020, ocorreu um aumento de publicações de autoria negra por editoras brasileiras e nesse mesmo ano houve uma intensificação do movimento Black Lives Matter (Vidas negras importam). Entende-se que a vida de escritoras e escritores negros é afetada pelo racismo estrutural e pela necropolítica, seja de forma geral, como acontece com todo indivíduo negro brasileiro, seja de maneira específica, na redução (e ampliação) de oportunidades para produção e circulação de obras literárias. A pesquisa é do tipo exploratória, descritiva e quantitativa e constitui seu referencial teórico a partir dos textos sobre vida literária (Broca, 2005; Moriconi, 2006), racismo estrutural (Almeida, 2019), epistemicídio (Carneiro, 2005), necropolítica (Mbembe, 2018), literatura negro-brasileira (Cuti, 2010), mercado editorial (Dalcastagnè, 2011, 2014; Oliveira, Rodrigues, 2016), escrevivência (Evaristo, 2009) e de uma seleção do repertório literário (ficção e poesia) produzido por escritores e escritoras negros no período delimitado para esta tese. A leitura deste repertório identificou que a recorrência temática sobre a vulnerabilidade à morte da população negra constitui um material importante a ser analisado em diálogo com os conceitos de literatura negro-brasileira, ancestralidade e escrevivência. Esta seleção de textos contribui para a análise da vida literária deste grupo de escritores e escritoras negros. Entende-se que esta vida literária, articulada por estratégias de produção, divulgação e circulação de obras, realizadas no período entre 1978 e 2020, embora, em sua maioria, distante dos espaços privilegiados de legitimação da literatura, integra o mosaico da vida literária brasileira e reivindica aos pesquisadores a experimentação de um modelo (flexível e inclusivo) de descrição, inscrição, mapeamento e abordagem, como, por exemplo, o realizado por Broca (2005) no livro A vida literária no Brasil − 1900. / [en] The thesis Black lives, literary lives (1978-2020) has the general objective of analyzing the literary lives of black Brazilian writers during the period between 1978 and 2020. The temporal and spatial milestones are justified by the articulation between literary and political actions related to the theme: in 1978, the literary series Cadernos Negros was created and in the same period the Movimento Negro Unificado (Unified Black Movement) emerged; in 2020, there was an increase in black publications by Brazilian publishers and in that same year there was an intensification of the Black Lives Matter movement. It is understood that the lives of black writers are affected by structural racism and necropolitics, either in a general way, as it happens to every black Brazilian individual, or in a specific way, in the reduction (and expansion) of opportunities for production and circulation of literary works. The research is of exploratory, descriptive, and quantitative type and constitutes its theoretical framework from texts on literary life (Broca, 2005; Moriconi, 2006), structural racism (Almeida, 2019), epistemicide (Carneiro, 2005), necropolitics (Mbembe, 2018), black-Brazilian literature (Cuti, 2010), publishing market (Dalcastagnè, 2011, 2014; Oliveira, Rodrigues, 2016), escrevivência (Evaristo, 2009) and of a selection of the literary repertoire (fiction and poetry) produced by black male and female writers in the period delimited for this thesis. The reading of this repertoire identified a thematic recurrence about the vulnerability to death of the black population constitutes an important material to be analyzed in dialogue with the concepts of black-brazilian literature, ancestry, and survival. This selection of texts contributes to the analysis of the literary life of this group of black writers. It is understood that this literary life, articulated by strategies of production, dissemination and circulation of works, carried out in the period between 1978 and 2020, although, in its majority, distant from the privileged spaces of legitimation of literature, integrates the mosaic of Brazilian literary life and claims to researchers the experimentation of a (flexible and inclusive) model of description, inscription, mapping and approach, as, for example, the one carried out by Broca (2005) in the book A vida literária no Brasil - 1900.

[pt] O presente trabalho tem por objetivo demonstrar como o princípio de autoridade, fundamental para a subsistência de qualquer instituição ou organização humana, aos poucos, foi se confundindo e se associando as pessoas ou as instituições religiosas que o exerciam, culminando com o autoritarismo. Dessa forma, a ação do Espírito Santo que é o princípio vivificante e vivificador da Igreja de Cristo, gradativamente foi sendo cerceada ou pelo menos limitada na eclesiologia cristã. Por conseguinte, houve o enrijecimento das estruturas eclesiásticas contribuindo para um forte êxodo nas instituições religiosas. Todavia, o Espírito Santo que permanece e floresce como fundamento e espaço vital nas Igrejas cristãs trabalha a fim de que estas possam superar as formas de autoritarismo que produzem a morte, conseqüentemente, permitindo às Igrejas a amplidão e o alargamento do sentido da vida no Espírito, bem como, a renovação e o ressurgimento de uma Igreja mais humana e solidária. Isto é, um novo modo de ser Igreja capaz de manter acesa a chama de esperança por uma vida mais justa e igualitária, no coração de cada ser humano. / [en] The present work has the purpose to demonstrate how principle of authority, fundamental to the survival of any human institution or organization, was gently mingling and associating with people or institutions that put in practice, culminating with authoritarianism. Thus, the action of the Holy Spirit that is principle vivifying and vivifier of the Church of Christ, was gradually being curtailed or at least limited in christian ecclesiology. Consequently, there was hardening of ecclesiastical structures contributing to a strong exodus from religious institutions. However, the Holy Spirit that remains and flouriches as a foundation and living space in the christian Churches works so that it can overcome the forms of authoritarianism that brings forth death, consequently, it enables Churches’ amplitude and enlargement of the meaning of the life in the Spirit, as well as, the renovation and resurgence of a more humane and caring Church; that is, a new way of being a Church able to keep the flame of hope burning for a more just and equalitarian life in the heart of every human being.

[pt] Um número crescente de artistas e designers produzem na atualidade trabalhos artísticos interativos, munidos de dispositivos móveis de comunicação sem fio, como telefones celulares, PDAs, laptops, em conexões a redes computacionais e serviços de localização. Esses trabalhos mapeiam novas formas de fluxo que, de forma invisível, se acumulam em camadas espaciais do nosso viver tecnológico, revelando uma nova configuração urbana – a cidade conectada – um novo conceito de cidade que associa as práticas do cotidiano a processos colaborativos criados pelas redes de comunicação e sistemas de localização. Apresentamos alguns desses trabalhos evidenciando duas abordagens artísticas. Uma, mostrada pelo viés do sublime tecnológico, dando ênfase à presença da tecnologia em nossa vida como um fenômeno da ordem do sublime, de grandeza e poder incomensuráveis que transcendem a capacidade de apreensão humana, mas que pela própria tecnologia é desvelado. Outra, pela ótica de uma nova relação entre arte e vida cotidiana, expressa em formas de um nomadismo urbano conectado que denominamos cartografias dos fluxos, que constituem mapeamentos de percursos e derivas pela cidade, em conexão a redes e sistemas de localização. As duas abordagens se entrelaçam em uma questão central, que é o caráter colaborativo da criação artística, configurando, em ambos os casos, uma estética do fluxo. Dessas ações coletivas, que envolvem artistas e participantes, resulta uma cartografia do hibridismo espacial dos fluxos em redes e territórios em que vivemos – subjetiva e emocional, pessoal e social: uma cartografia da vida cotidiana em fluxo, uma cartografia sublime. / [en] Recently, a growing number of artists and designers are producing interactive artworks equipped with mobile and wireless communications devices, including mobile phones, PDAs and laptops, connected to computer networks and location-based systems. These artworks are mapping new forms of flow that accumulate invisibly in space in layers of our technological living, and are bringing to light a new urban configuration - the wired city. This new concept of city relates everyday actions to collaborative processes created by networked mobile communications and locative media. We present some of these works from two aesthetic standpoints, the first of which is technological sublime. This emphasizes the presence of technology in our lives as a phenomenon on the order of the sublime, of immeasurable magnitude and power, that transcends the realm of human apprehension and is unveiled only by the technology itself. The second reflects a new relation between art and everyday life expressed in the form of a wired urban nomadism. We call it flow cartography - the mapping of pathways and drifts through the city connected with networks and location systems. The two approaches intertwine in a key question: Is the collaborative nature of the artistic creation resulting, in both cases, in an aesthetic of flow? These collective actions involving artists and participants result in a cartography of the hybrid space of flows in the - subjective and emotional, personal and social - networks and territories we live in: a cartography of the everyday flow of life, a sublime cartography.

[pt] A presente tese aborda um tema de viva atualidade e de suma importância para quem reflete a fundo sobre o sentido da vida humana e da morte. Trata-se de uma questão que inquieta o ser humano desde a antigüidade, desperta a reflexão de filósofos e teólogos e tem obtido respostas diferentes nas diversas épocas, culturas e religiões. Qual o destino do ser humano após a morte? Ímpios e justos estão fadados à mesma sorte? A vida do justo atribulado se extinguiu em vão? Esta tese procura encontrar uma resposta para a questão pesquisando a perícope de Sb 3,1-9 à luz do contexto do livro da Sabedoria. A investigação leva também em consideração a literatura bíblica e extra-bíblica contemporânea à sua redação. Após determinar o texto, o gênero literário e o Sitz im Leben, o estudo focaliza sua atenção na perícope de Sb 3,1-9, analisada através do prisma de suas duas principais dimensões: a escatológica e a apocalíptica. Pergunta-se então: a palavra imortalidade - a/qanasi/a (termo desconhecido na LXX e de singular valor no livro da Sabedoria) - deixa entrever (inclui) também o sentido de ressurreição - a/na/stasij? Depois de ponderar as interpretações e os argumentos de estudiosos - uns afirmam que Sb só fala de imortalidade e não de ressurreição; outros afirmam que a ressurreição está implícita -, a tese coteja as duas posições e opta por uma terceira via, na qual o conceito grego de imortalidade, assumido pelo autor judeu, permite entrever o conceito semítico de ressurreição. A conclusão do trabalho é dúplice: constata a confluência entre o significado de a/qanasi/a e a/na/stasij; e que o conceito de a/qanasi/a oferece uma contribuição para compreender melhor a ressurreição dos mortos, crença comum para judeus e cristãos. / [en] The present thesis deals with a current and very important theme to those who reflect deeply about the meaning of human life and death. This is an issue that has worried the human being since antiquity, has raised the reflection of philosophers and theologians and different answers have been obtained at different times, cultures and religions. What is the destiny of the human being after death? Are the impious and righteous predestined to the same fate? Was the life of the troubled just extinguished in vain? This thesis looks for an answer to the issue through researching the pericope of Wis 3,1-9 in the light of the context of the book of Wisdom. The investigation also considers the biblical literature and the extra-biblical literature contemporaneous to this writing. After determining the text, the literary gender and the Sitz im Leben, the study focus its attention on the pericope of Wis 3,1-9, analyzed through the prism of its two main dimensions: the eschatological and the apocalyptical one. Then one may ask: does the word immortality - a/qanasi/a (unknown term in the LXX and bearing singular value in the book of Wisdom) - also suggest (include) the meaning of resurrection - a/na/stasij? After pondering about scholars interpretations and arguments - some assert that Wis only talks about immortality, not resurrection; others assert that resurrection is implicit -, the thesis considers both positions and chooses a third via, in which the Greek concept of immortality, as taken by the Jewish author, allows one to perceive the Semitic concept of resurrection. The conclusion of the paper is double: it ascertains the confluence between the meanings of a/qanasi/a and a/na/stasij; and that the concept of a/qanasi/a contributes to a better understanding of the resurrection of the dead, a common belief among both Jewish and Christians.

[pt] A partir de um quadro familiar de uma doença neurodegenerativa hereditária rara e incurável que ataca o cerebelo, de corpos que perdem progressivamente sua coordenação motora e sua força muscular, sem ter sua capacidade intelectual afetada, um corpo se lança em um caminho de estudo e escrita, onde pesquisa teórica e uma vida se entrelaçam. A tese se desenrola com registros de escrita variados, misturando cenas, fabulações, memórias, delírios, ensaios, e vozes de intercessores diversos que atravessam o texto em diálogo com o corpo-pensamento em combate e em construção ao longo do processo de pesquisa e escrita. / [fr] En partant d un contexte familial d une maladie neurodégénérative héréditaire rare et incurable qui atteint le cervelet, provoquant la perte progressive de la coordination motrice et des forces musculaires, sans que les capacités intellectuelles ne soient affectées, un corps se jette dans un parcours d étude et d écriture, où la recherche théorique et une vie s entrelacent. La thèse se compose de registres d écriture variés, entremêlant des scènes, des fabulations, des souvenirs, des délires, des essais, et d autres voix d intercesseurs divers qui traversent le texte en dialogue avec le corps-pensée en combat et en construction tout au long de la recherche et de l écriture.

[pt] A proposta desta dissertação é a de explorar, através de crônicas de António Lobo Antunes, as relações entre o homem urbano contemporâneo e seu espaço de viver, buscando salientar e apontar a relevância de seus textos, na compreensão destas relações, para a elaboração de um esboço dos tempos atuais. O autor imprime em seus textos o cenário do seu tempo; ou seja, este universo abrange as gerações nascidas em meados do século XX, que cresceram após a Segunda Grande Guerra que foram e são testemunhas da morte de ideais políticos e sociais e do surgimento de um sujeito descentrado e sem eixo, com seus antigos valores alterados e suas referências escasseadas, numa nova sociedade regida por um mercado capitalista em constante expansão. Estas mutações que se refletem - através da arquitetura e do urbanismo - nos espaços e ambientes vividos por esse indivíduo são captadas com precisão pelo olhar peculiar do autor em suas crônicas. Sua percepção, especialmente observadora do desconforto e desajuste do homem contemporâneo, faz com que, ao explorar a vida urbana lisboeta, ultrapasse as fronteiras culturais e locais dessa cidade, para atingir qualquer leitor contemporâneo. / [en] The proposal of this dissertation is to explore, throughout António Lobo Antunes´s chronicles, the relations between the urban contemporaneous man and his living space, inquiring to emphasize and point out the importance of his texts, to the apprehension of those relations, on the elaboration of a nowadays sketch. The author print out in his texts the scenery of his own time, that is, this universe embraces all the generations borned on the middle of the XX century, who grew up after the 2º Great World War and were and still are witnesses of the death of politicals and socials ideals and appearance of an individual uncentered and without a main axle, with the scarceness of his references and his old values changed, into a new society managed by a continuous expanding capitalist market. Those mutations, which are reflected, trough architecture and urbanism, into the spaces and environments lived by this individual, are captured with precision by the unique look of the author in his chronicles. His perception and specially observation of the uncomfortableness and unreguleness of contemporaneous man, when exploring Lisbon urban life, exceeds cultural borders of this city reaching any nowadays reader.

[pt] O fenômeno do prolongamento da convivência familiar pode ser compreendido como uma forma de organização familiar que responde à instabilidade do contexto atual. O jovem contemporâneo convive com a ausência de segurança no campo profissional e afetivo, encontrando suporte na vida em família. Assim, ele se depara com o contraste entre o desamparo do mundo lá fora e o conforto na casa da família, uma vez que esta tem oferecido cada vez mais diálogo entre os membros. Esta dissertação tem como objetivo investigar as motivações, os obstáculos, a vida profissional, a vida afetiva e os planos para o futuro dos jovens adultos que moram com os pais. Para isto, recorremos ao campo da psicologia, da psicanálise, da sociologia e da história. Utilizamos metodologia qualitativa e entrevista semi-estruturada, que contemplou temas relevantes, relativos ao prolongamento da convivência familiar. Entrevistamos 8 sujeitos das camadas médias da população carioca, com idades entre 26 e 35 anos e que moram com os pais. Verificamos que os sujeitos destacam como vantagens de viver com os pais a questão econômica, a organização, a praticidade, o diálogo e o alento. Como desvantagens, eles apontam para a falta de privacidade e o sentimento de não pertença à casa da família. A vida profissional dos sujeitos é marcada por experiências de curto prazo e pelo medo em relação ao futuro. Porém, alguns sujeitos buscam no emprego público a garantia de uma vida mais estável. Já a vida amorosa dos entrevistados, é caracterizada principalmente pela flexibilidade dos laços amorosos. O quadro instável da atualidade, enfim, produz medo e insegurança nos sujeitos. Constatamos que diante dessa realidade, é comum que o jovem evite fazer planos para o futuro a fim de proteger-se contra possíveis frustrações. / [en] The phenomenon of delayed home-leaving can be understood as a new family structure that responds to the instability of the current context. The contemporary youth cope with the lack of security in their professional and emotional lives, and find support in family life. Thus, they face the contrast between the helplessness of the outside world and the comfort of the family home, since contemporary families tend to have an open dialogue. This study aims to investigate the motivations, obstacles, professional life, emotional life, and plans for the future of young adults living with their parents. To this end, we turned to the fields of psychology, psychoanalysis, sociology and history. Qualitative method and semi-structured interview were used, which included relevant issues concerning the phenomenon of delayed home-leaving. The subjects of our study were 8 middle class adults living with their parents in Rio de Janeiro, between the ages of 26 and 35. We found that the subjects highlight the economic issues, organization, practicality, dialogue, and support as advantages of living with their parents. As disadvantages, they point out the lack of privacy, and feeling that they do not belong to the family home. Their professional lives are characterized by short-term employment and fear of the future. However, some subjects seek public employment to ensure a more stable life. Yet, the love life of interviewees is characterized primarily by the frailty of bonds. The instability of our time produces insecurity and fear in the subjects. We verified that given this reality, it is common for young adults to avoid making plans for the future in order to protect themselves from potential frustrations.

[pt] A partir da experiência da autora como participante em três oficinas de prosa de ficção, esta dissertação desenvolve reflexões sobre os caminhos da experimentação e da construção da escrita artística, e também da profissionalização do escritor. Da motivação do escrever às formas de inserção no sistema literário, a oficina se oferece em seus temas e dinâmicas como espaço de investigação das tensões relacionadas à prática da escrita na contemporaneidade: fundada sob o princípio do aprendizado, ela pressupõe o apagamento do autor como sujeito inspirado e original, mas convive com as ideias românticas em torno da criação. Embora aceitem os novos termos da intertextualidade e da aprendizagem técnica, seus alunos buscam uma voz própria e vivenciam a experiência da impessoalidade que escapa ao controle no processo de escrita. Neste trabalho, as atividades da oficina são apresentadas em diálogo com as noções barthesianas e deleuzeanas sobre a escrita, sua motivação e sua construção. / [en] Considering the author s experience as a participant in three prose fiction s workshop, this dissertation develops reflections on the experimentation and construction ways of artistic writing and also on the writer s professionalism. From the writing motivation to the forms of insertion in the literary system, the workshop presents their themes and dynamics as a space to investigate the tensions related to the writing practice in contemporary times: based on the principle of learning, it requires the author s extinguishment as an inspired and original subject, but has a close association with romantic ideas around the creation. Although new terms of intertextuality and technical learning are accepted, the students search for a own voice and live the impersonality experience that goes beyond the control in the writing process. In this work, the workshop activities are presented in dialogue with the Barthes s and Deleuze s notions about writing, their motivation and construction.

[pt] A Animação Bíblica da Pastoral foi consagrada pelo Papa Bento XVI na Exortação Apostólica Verbum Domini e tem se tornado comum na Igreja, bem como tem sido urgente a sua prática. Chamada a ser a alma de toda a pastoral, sua importância reside na redescoberta da Palavra de Deus como fonte e conteúdo de toda a ação evangelizadora da Igreja. Nesta pesquisa, propôs-se uma Animação Bíblica que seja Integral e atinja a Vida e a Pastoral; que seja fonte de toda ação evangelizadora, ficando assim composta sua proposição: Animação Bíblica Integral da Vida e da Pastoral. O termo Integral é aqui entendido como aquilo que se apresenta em sua totalidade, ou como propriedade do ser integral, e o substantivo Vida, como aquilo que é vivenciado pela realidade humana em seus diversos aspectos e dimensões. Tomou-se como base dessa proposição o axioma teológico Lex oranidi, lex credendi e lex vivendi, naquilo que diz respeito ao mistério que se celebra, que se crê e se vivencia. Entende-se que a Animação Bíblica da Vida e da Pastoral acontece quando essas três dimensões se complementam pela Palavra de Deus que circula entre elas e as une. A principal base desta pesquisa é a experiência pastoral dos Círculos Bíblicos da diocese de Cachoeiro de Itapemirim-ES, entre os anos 2010 e 2019, tomada como exemplificação. Também foi visitado o caminho pastoral percorrido pela Palavra de Deus desde o período Apostólico (Séc. I) à promulgação da Constituição Dogmática Dei Verbum e seus desdobramentos até ao aparecimento da proposição Animação Bíblica da Pastoral. O fundamental, em todo o processo desta pesquisa, é a redescoberta da Palavra de Deus na liturgia e na oração, na catequese e na vivência pessoal, comunitária e social, numa circularidade integradora que une esses três momentos. A Animação Bíblica Integral da Vida e da Pastoral, aqui proposta, apresenta-se como uma contribuição ao desdobramento da proposição Animação Bíblica da Pastoral, no que diz respeito ao entendimento conceitual e ao serviço à Pastoral Bíblica. / [en] The Bible Animation of Pastoral Work was enshrined by Pope Benedict XVI in the Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini and has become common in the Church, as well as its practice has been urgent. The Animation has been called to be the soul of all pastoral work, its importance lies in the rediscovery of the Word of God as the source and content of all evangelizing action of the Church. In this research, it was proposed a Bible Animation that is Integral and reaches Life and Pastoral; that could be the source of all evangelizing action, thus composing its proposition: Integral Bible Animation of Life and Pastoral Work. The term Integral is understood here as what is presented in its entirety, or as a property of the integral being, and the noun Life, as what is experienced by human reality in its various aspects and dimensions. The theological axiom Lex oranid, lex credendi and lex vivendi was taken as the basis of this proposition, with regard to the mystery that is celebrated, believed and experienced. It is understood that the Bible Animation of Life and Pastoral Work takes place when these three dimensions are complemented by the Word of God that circulates among them and unites them. The main basis of this research is the pastoral experience of the Bible Circles of the diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim-ES, between 2010 and 2019, that was taken as an example. The pastoral path taken by the Word of God from the Apostolic period (1st century) to the promulgation of the Dogmatic Constitution Dei Verbum and its repercussions until the appearance of the proposition Bible Animation of Pastoral Work was also visited. The fundamental in the entire process of this research is the rediscovery of the Word of God in the liturgy and prayer, in catechesis and in personal, community and social experience, in an integrative circularity that unites these three moments. The Integral Bible Animation of Life and Pastoral Work, proposed here, presents itself as a contribution to the repercussion of the Bible Animation of Pastoral proposition, with regard to conceptual understanding and service to bible pastoral.

[pt] A resistência a fadiga dos elementos estruturais pode ser limitada pela presença de trincas curtas, as quais podem passar despercebidas em inspeções não-destrutivas tradicionais. Para modelar o comportamento dessas trincas pode-se utilizar o tamanho característico das trincas curtas ao, proposto por El Haddad, Topper e Smith (ETS), que permite ajustar adequadamente os dados experimentais do diagrama de Kitagawa-Takahashi. Partindo do modelo ETS, neste trabalho se apresenta o modelo do Gradiente de Tensão (GT), desenvolvido para prever o efeito das trincas curtas que nascem em pontas de entalhes. Este modelo reconhece que trincas podem ser facilmente geradas por fadiga em entalhes afiados, que introduzem efeitos de concentração de tensão elevados nas suas pontas. Mas devido ao alto gradiente de tensão que atua em torno das pontas desses entalhes, as trincas curtas que deles emanam também podem parar de crescer por fadiga após terem se propagado por uma pequena distância, tornando-se assim trincas não-propagantes que podem ser toleradas em serviço. Corpos de prova tipo C(T) modificados foram projetados especificamente para estudar a geração e o crescimento inicial dessas trincas em ensaios de fadiga, e usados para verificar experimentalmente as previsões do modelo proposto. / [en] The fatigue strength of structural elements may be limited by the presence of short cracks, which can not be detected with traditional nondestructive inspections. The behavior of these cracks can be modeled using the characteristic size of short cracks a0, proposed by El Haddad, Topper and Smith (ETS), which allows one to properly adjust experimental data from the Kitagawa-Takahashi diagram. Based on the ETS model, this work presents the Stress Gradient (SG) model, developed to predict the effect of short cracks that grow from the notch tips. This model considers that cracks are easily generated due to fatigue in sharp notches, which introduce high stress concentration effects at their tips. Because of the high stress gradient acting at these notch tips, the short cracks can also stop to grow by fatigue after having propagated through a small distance, thereby becoming non-propagating cracks that can be tolerated in service. C(T) modified specimens were specifically designed to study the generation and initial growth of these cracks in fatigue tests, and used to experimentally verify the predictions of the proposed model.
