Adapting Orff Schulwerk to the American elementary music program : a creative project / Title of accompanying manual: Orff instrument source book for making music your own

Nichols, Elizabeth L. 03 June 2011 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to determine the composition and characteristics of employer and employee negotiating teams during initial stages of legislated collective bargaining for public schools in Indiana. Study participants included superintendents and trustees and 204 presidents of identified exclusive representatives of bargaining units of Indiana school systems.Participants responded relative to the number, race, sex, previous negotiating experience, and professional employment positions held by negotiating team members; positions held in professional employment, previous negotiating experience, race, and sex of negotiating team spokesmen; remuneration of negotiating team members and spokesmen; and extent of use, position held on negotiation teams, basis of selection, previous negotiating experience, amount and basis of remuneration of outside experts in negotiations.Findings of the study were:1. Teacher negotiating teams were larger than teams representing boards of education. Teachers' teams increased in number as pupil enrollment of school systems increased.2. Almost all negotiating teams had one individual identified as negotiating team spokesman.3. School board member participation on employer negotiating teams increased as pupil enrollment of school systems decreased.4. Slightly more than 25 per cent of all superintendents participated on employer negotiating teams. Only one superintendent served as spokesman in school districts serving 12,000 or more students.5. The number of principals serving as spokesman increased as the pupil enrollment of school systems decreased.6. The number of business managers serving as spokesmen increased as the pupil enrollment of school systems increased.7. Assistant Superintendents for Personnel and/or Directors of Employee Relations served as spokesman only in districts serving 6,000 or more pupils.8. Attorneys served as outside experts on one-half of employer negotiating teams.9. Negotiating team membership reflected all segments of employer and employee groups.10. Slightly less than one-half of team spokesmen reported they had no previous negotiating experience. Almost 100 per cent of team spokesmen for school systems with 6,000 or fewer students were inexperienced.11. The years of previous negotiating experience of outside experts increased as the pupil enrollment of school systems increased.12. Almost 100 per cent of employer negotiating team spokesmen outside experts and team members were white males.13. Slightly more than three-fourths of employee negotiating team spokesmen were males.14. Employee negotiating team membership was composed of about one-half white males and one-half white females.15. Almost 100 per cent of the outside experts and spokesmen for employee negotiating teams were white males.16. Remuneration of outside experts ranged from $23,000 to $500. Per diem compensation ranged from $300 to $100. Per hour compensation ranged from $55 to $20.17. Almost one-half of employer team outside experts were paid on a per hour basis plus expenses.18. Outside experts serving employee negotiating teams were reimbursed in salary by state and/or national teacher organizations.Size of school district is a major factor in determining the composition and characteristics of negotiating teams. The amount or basis of remuneration paid to outside experts, spokesmen, or team members is not positively related to size of school system.Large amounts of tax dollars are being expended to carry out mandated negotiations.Employer negotiations are conducted by white males. Employee negotiations spokesmen are predominately white males. As of 1975 the status of negotiations in Indiana is one of attempting to implement a process; therefore, the level of sophistication in negotiations is minimal.Management personnel have lacked adequate preparation for negotiations and consequently have turned to outside experts until competent in-house negotiators are developed.Teacher groups rely heavily upon assistance provided through national networks of teacher organizations.

______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This work aims to present Freud`s relation with women s sexuality, primarily in three areas: personal relations, clinical and theoretical. In the first area, the relationship between Freud and women s sexuality is discussed through his relationship with his daughter Anna Freud. In the second part, we present the written clinical case of Anna Freud, also his patient. In the third part, ideas that deal with women's sexuality in Freud's work are mapped out in order to present the theoretical evolution of this construct in his work over time. This course, with its first three areas, is important as a return to Freud, essential to reach the last area of this study, which is contemporary psychoanalysis. In this sense, we present ideas from contemporary psychoanalysis authors about the crisis that is faced by theory and treatment work regarding current demands. Only after this general approach about the crisis, will be presented the critique of the current conceptions about women's sexuality under the psychoanalytical theory. This work is completed with the construction of guidelines that can serve the work of psychoanalysis today, claiming its status of women's sexuality clinic.

Bouchard, Jo-Anne 12 April 2018 (has links)

Carl Orff's Carmina Burana: A Comparative Study of the Original for Orchestra and Choruses with the Juan Vicente Mas Quiles Wind Band and Chorus Arrangement.

Simon, Philip G. 08 1900 (has links)
The 1994 publication of a new version of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, arranged for winds, percussion and choruses by Juan Vicente Mas Quiles, created new possibilities for the performance of Orff's monumental work. This dissertation serves as a guide to the study and performance of the Mas Quiles arrangement of Carmina Burana. Chapter One presents a brief discussion of Carl Orff and his Carmina Burana, followed in Chapter two by a short discussion of Mas Quiles' and the other significant transcriptions and arrangements of Carmina Burana, Chapter three contains a review of the literature pertinent to the study Carmina Burana. In Chapter Four a detailed examination and comparison of the original Orff score with the Mas Quiles arrangement provides a framework with which the conductor may study and compare the two scores in preparation for a performance of the Mas Quiles arrangement. The scoring of the Mas Quiles arrangement is masterful in that the arrangement so closely maintains the textural, musical and aesthetic integrity of the work. The Mas Quiles version includes all of the movements, and all of the original elements: choruses, soloists and orchestral parts are preserved intact. The only substantive change is the judicious use of winds in place of the orchestral string parts. By comparison and analysis of Mas Quiles scoring techniques with the Orff original, the author concludes that the Mas Quiles arrangement is a viable and unique alternative to the Orff original and highly worthy of study and performance by conductors of advanced level ensembles.

Avalovara: leituras musicais

Paz, Martha Costa Guterres January 2010 (has links)
This paper discusses the musical aspects related to the construction of Julius Heckethorn's clock, based on the Sonata K 462 by Scarlatti, narrated in detail in the subject P, of the novel Avalovara, by Osman Lins. The goal is to establish relationships between the musical aspects and the structural elements of the novel, unveiling some of its rules. The musical references present in the novel are relevant and numerous. Besides the rich narrative sound scenes, like the beating of waves on the beach, the sound of wind, the sound of horses' hoofs and the chirping of birds, there are depictions of folk and classical musical events such as the Pastoril, in Recife, the cantata Carmina Catulli by Carl Orff, and the psalm In Convertendo Dominus, by André Campra. The reflections are referenced to the theoretical perspective of Matila Ghyka (1968) to relate the structural elements of the work with the construction of Julius Heckethorn's clock, and are referenced musically to the information contained in Grout and Palisca (2007).

Belle S. Spafford: Leader of Women

Chandler, Gayle Morby 01 January 1983 (has links) (PDF)
This historical/descriptive study analyzes the speaking career of Belle S. Spafford and attempts to document the relationship between her speaking and her influence with her peers. For over fifty years, the dedicated woman served as a spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the National Council of Women, briding the gap between the secular and religious world of women. A rhetorical analysis of four speeches indicates the following findings: Mrs. Spafford appealed to her audiences through a focus on shared values; she had credibility because of her positions of authority and used it wisely; she effectively analyzed her audiences and their collective bond of interest; and she sought to convince and produce an effect without apparent force or authority. Her well-organized speeches are examples of the historical method of presentation with her style being clear and appropriate, but not particularly vivid. Mrs. Spafford is a product of her environment and her religon. She rose to positions of power where she achieved a significant level of influence through her skillful use of communication.

Drügg, Angela Maria Schneider January 2007 (has links)
The research consists of a study on the process of psychic constitution of the child in school age from the concept of latency time, searching the education process of infancy. It points out the concept in the set of the Freudian workmanship since the first works on the neuroses and the infantile sexuality, passes for the period of formularization of the drive theory, still locates it in the context of the structural theory and in the reflections of Freud about the relations between nature and culture. To leave of this, it verifies the unfoldings that the concept has in the workmanship of recognized psychoanalysts who had dedicated themselves to analyze of children as Melanie Klein, Anna Freud, Donald Winnicott, Charles Sarnoff and Françoise Dolto, culminating with a reading of the latency time as a logical time from the lacanian approach. While logical time understands that the latency does not elapse of a natural process, unchained for the organism, and yes for the demand of the Other. In this direction it searches to tie it to the cultural transformations of modernity, between these the education process of infancy. It supports that the education favors the constitution of the latency time, in the measure where the school is organized as the social space destined to the child, distancing itself of the familiar environment without, in meanwhile include them in the adult world, at the same time where it makes possible subliming forms. Understanding the latency time as a production of the social bow, it cogitates that new transformations in the culture can extinguish it while constituent time. It points that breakings in the sustentation of the psychic work of the latency appear in some clinical formations as the intellectual inhibition and the pertaining to school phobia.
