Cerqueira, Patricia Conceição Borges Franca Fialho January 2014 (has links)
This research aims to analyze the figurations of alterity, taking into account the process of identitarian (re)construction of the characters and their relation to cultural memory, based on the reading of four Moacyr Scliar’s novels: Os Deuses de Raquel (1975); O centauro no jardim (1980); A estranha nação de Rafael Mendes (1983); e, Na noite do ventre, o diamante (2005). The relations between literature, identity and alterity are central to the contemporary debate. Pierre Ouellet says that alterity is, without a doubt, one of the most studied phenomena and concepts used by Human Sciences, Letters and Philosophy for the last thirty years; but it is also a sense of the polysemous and most controversial uses that can be made today, even in more or less ideological contexts. It directs because the epistemological basis of (re)questioning the sociohistorical context and the ethical and aesthetic scope of this phenomenon, or that notion in light of these different meanings or their various jobs. In contemporary Brazilian literature, authors from different ethnicities work systematically with the issues of immigration, of alterity and cultural memory. For, although the contribution of immigrants to the formation of our society has been extremely important, these elements were being represented in a shy mode, or even, homogenized, both in Brazilian literature and history. Moacyr Scliar is an author of Jewish origin who works extensively with issues related to identity, diversity and minorities. Scliar, himself, says that it "gives voice to those who do not have it, making their stories to the official version of history that misrepresents them or is pasteurized". This way, the author, through social thematic approach, opens space for reflection on alterity. Thus, the study of “figuration of alterity”, present in the romances analyzed in this research, becomes necessary since in these works the characters are always in a position, as Linda Hutcheon would say, of “ex-centric”, “marginalized”, "peripheral figures of fictional history," this is, they are always “the other”, “the different”. Those chosen texts question the interrelations and cultural conflicts through the figure of the "immigrant" character who is on the borderline "between two worlds" and that often struggles to integrate itself, ceasing, thus, to be "the other. Benedito Nunes e a moderna crítica literária brasileira (1946-1969) = Benedito Nunes and the Modern Brazilian Literary Criticism (1946-1969) / Benedito Nunes and the Modern Brazilian Literary Criticism (1946-1969)

This dissertation, about the literary criticism of Benedito Nunes, divided in two parts, is based on a variety of textual genres (attempts to write novels, poems, aphorisms, chronicles on science, poetry and philosophy, interviews, criticism on poetry and novels). In other words, this study is about Nunes? first texts on some newspapers of Belém do Pará: "Supplement of Art and Literature", on the newspaper Folha do Norte (1946-1951), in which the author starts his career as a literary critic, also writing on magazines such as Encontro (1948) and Norte (1952). This study is also based on Benedito Nunes? writings on other newspapers of Brazil, such as the "Sunday Supplement" of Jornal do Brasil and on the supplements of journals like O Estado de São Paulo and O Estado de Minas Gerais (texts containing analysis of poems, novels and philosophy); and, still, Nunes? first books: O mundo de Clarice Lispector (1966) and O dorso do tigre (1969). The latter causes the writer to be considered one of the exponents of modern literary criticism in the second half of the twentieth century in Brazil, mainly of the works of art of writers who published from the decade of 1940 on, namely, Clarice Lispector, Guimarães Rosa and João Cabral de Melo Neto, just to name a few. The compilation of the texts published on journals, besides enabling the identification of the main readings of Benedito Nunes, which were incorporated to the conception of his criticism, considering some Christian philosophers as Saint Thomas Aquinas, Pascal, and, particularly, a precursor of existentialism, Kierkegaard, which will be constant in the analysis of the Brazilian author, makes it possible to trace the intellectual path followed by Benedito Nunes, specially as a literary critic. The writer will, lately, add the ideas of Sartre and Heidegger to his analysis. Specifically considering Heidegger, who Nunes studies throughout his whole life, it is possible to see the ontological conception of artistic creation by verbal language, which, to the German philosopher, corresponds to the foundation of the self by the word. Regarding the division of this study, the first part contains the intellectual path Benedito Nunes followed, as well as analysis of the material compiled from the newspapers and from the two books of this Brazilian critic. The second part contains a sample of the material which was compiled / Doutorado / Teoria e Critica Literaria / Doutora em Teoria e História Literária

Miranda Díaz, Maga January 2016 (has links)

Warringer, Mina, Lenander, Jenny January 2017 (has links)

A psychobiographical study of Steven Paul Jobs

Moore, Noelle January 2014 (has links)
The study consists of a psychobiography of the American entrepreneur and innovative co-founder of Apple Computers, Steven Paul Jobs (1955 – 2011). The psychobiographical research method qualitatively considers the lived life of an individual in an attempt to understand the psychological development in the context of applied psychological theory. A theoretical integration of Adler‘s Individual Psychology and Antonovsky‘s Sense of Coherence was utilized in the present study. This integrative approach facilitated a dynamic and holistic picture of the individual‘s functioning in illuminating not only personality but also the individual‘s social context, choice making capacity, general resistance resources and the individual‘s ‗meaning making‘ capacity in the strive towards health and superiority. Steven Paul Jobs revolutionised personal computing. Ranked as Forbes‘ seventeenth most powerful person and Man of the Year by The Financial Times in 2010, Jobs‘ contribution to modern technology is widely acknowledged and revered. To ensure the accurate description of the lived life of Steven Paul Jobs, extensive data was examined by utilizing Alexander‘s model of identifying salient themes. The study considered the nature and methodology of psychobiography, the theories of Alfred Adler and Aaron Antonovsky and the life of Steven Paul Jobs that resulted in an integrated psychological description of the subject. The findings of this study indicate that Steven Paul Jobs‘ unique context (environment and constitutional attributes) was valuable in light of the theoretical frameworks that the present study is grounded upon as it illustrated an individual‘s self-determination and capacity to exercise choice in response to life challenges. The study highlighted that the individual is not necessarily a passive bystander to his life events but rather is driven by an internal forward striving. Key concepts: Aaron Antonovsky, Alfred Adler, Apple Computers, Individual Psychology, Psychobiography, Sense of Coherence, Steven Paul Jobs.

Interrelations between business and technology : a case study

Tshamano, Tshifhiwa Joshua 23 April 2014 (has links)
M.Ing. (Engineering Management) / The current research investigated the inter-relationship between Steve Jobs and Apple Company. The study looked at Steve if he launched Apple with business orientation. The researcher used Yin’s (1994) single case, holistic design research method and looked at the data gathered from thirty-seven authors. Steve Jobs’ business orientation was measured using Snaddon (2008) business measures. Symbols were used to indicate whether the evidence found from different sources is direct, indirect, negative or if there was no evidence at all. A score that ranged from -1 for negative evidence to +2 for direct evidence was assigned to evidence from each author; then the total score that represented evidence from all thirty- seven authors on each business measure was presented in the results column (see table 4). Based on the total score of each measure, the strength of the relationship was established. The results showed that there was an inter-relationship between Steve Jobs’ business strategy and the Snaddon (2008) business measures. The evidence gathered did not support the hypothesis that Steve Jobs had little business orientation and the conclusion drawn was that Steve was business oriented when he (and his partners) launched Apple Company.
