Indicators for sales success of a personal financial advisor in the bancassurance environment

Van der Merwe, Pieter Retief 28 February 2009 (has links)
This study investigated the relationships between personality, ability, biographical and sociographical factors on the one hand and criterion measures of job-relevant behaviour on the other. The aim of the study was to isolate success-predicting factors for a Personal Financial Advisor in a South African Bancassurance operation. The research was done by means of a criterion-related concurrent validation study. The sample consisted of 185 advisors with two years or longer sales tenure in the position. Predictor variables included measurement on a 20-dimension competency model, an ability assessment and 17 biographical and sociographical variables related to the position. Criterion variables included production figures and managerial ratings on advisor performance. Meaningful predictors for the success of financial advisors were found for personality, ability, biographical and sociographical variables, and the results confirmed the hypothesised competency model derived from a job analysis. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. O enfrentamento à violência doméstica contra crianças e adolescentes no município de Orlândia-SP : o papel do Conselho Tutelar /

Julião, Cláudia Helena. January 2004 (has links)
Abstract: This study had as an objective to understand the performance of the Tutelary Advice of Orlândia-SP in the phenomenon of the domestic violence against children and teenagers. The Tutelary Advice is an organ that, in accordance with the Child and the Teenager Statute is in charge of receiving denunciation of suspicious or confirmation of situations of maltreatment, exploration, abuse and negligence imposed by the parents or responsible people. Therefore, it is through the Tutelary Advice that the violence against children and teenagers practised inside the family leaves out the private space for the public, then being acquired a social visibility and demanding from this organ, the application of protection means. To materialize our study, we made a data-collecting through documentary research, by consulting attendance handbooks of Tutelary Advice and by collecting verbal stories. We have identified in the period from January to November 2003, 26 claims of this form of violence. With the accomplishment of the interview with a Tutelary Council member and two professionals of the health area and education so we have collected information on the Tutelary Advice, as well as on the means adopted by the assistance institutions for the children and teenagers when identifying a situation of domestic violence. The Tutelary Advice when having knowledge of denunciations of this type, takes steps in the sense of checking the origin or not of the same one, however, in what measures of protection to the victim is concerned, we have verified that these procedures not always occur. We hope that this study come to provide reflections on this so controversial and cadent subject and that these reflections make possible more effective protection actions to children and teenagers who are victims of domestic violence in Orlândia-SP, as well as to be a motivation for further studies. / Doutor

Otevřené podílové fondy versus investiční životní pojištění / Open muttual funds versus investment life insurance

NESVAČILOVÁ, Lenka January 2009 (has links)
In last decade passed investment in the Czech republic discontinuous innovation. The expanse of investors fund is adherent to voucher privatization, which they realized in 1992 {--} 1994. At the beginnig of new millenium in the Czech republic begin penetrated foreign investments company. The faulted year for collective investing was in 2004, when Czech republic enter in Europion Union. The market of life insurance in last years noted big boom. Since 1996 the market of life insurance trebled. In my graduation theses I compare two products {--} investment life insurance and open muttual funds. The investment life insurance is Flexi 2009 from Pojišťovna České spořitelny, a.s. and open muttual funds is Evropslá penze Plus/Baby from Conseq Management Investment, a.s. The similar products are in the czech market many, but is not possible to characterise and compare all. Investment life instance is more difficult product than open muttual funds. Especially is adress those, who has commitment to third persons, for example familly or long loan. Open muttual funds is a form of savings, which offer interesting assesment investment instruments. I can´t say, that one product is better than second. For me both muttualy added. From existencial reasons is more necessary life insurance in result cover human risks of clients and their familly. I would recommend clients, who want conclude investment life insurance or enter in world of investing in the form of open muttual funds to not restrict to selection only one insurance or investment company. In time of charge wars are prices very different in almost the same products. Client should have a comparison ond offers selected products from more financial institucions or financial advisors, who have almost all company under {\clqq}one roof`` and they can select. They should know, what is for their clients important, what not and mainly why.

Avaliação da educação superior de enfermagem na perspectiva da Comissão Assessora de Avaliação para a Enfermagem - INEP / Evaluation of the Higher Education on the Nursing Studies perspective of the Adviser Committee of Evaluation for Nursing Studies - INEP.

Tatiana Gabriela Brassea Galleguillos 04 May 2007 (has links)
This essay has the objective of analyze the process of evaluation of the higher education on the Brazilian nursing studies under the perspective of the Adviser Committee of Evaluation for Nursing Studies - INEP. From the analysis fulfilled based on the interviews with the members of the so called committee for the nursing field it was possible to open debates on issues concerning to the policies of the higher education evaluation, taking into consideration the expansion and the diversification at this level of education, the settlement of the procedures for evaluation, established on principles of flexibility and competitiveness, as the health policies, determined from the conductresses of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) with emphasis on the public health. It becomes clear that the Sistema Nacional de Avaliação da Educação Superior (SINAES), besides presenting elements of regulation, makes possible accomplish a qualitative evaluation, in order to overcome the former model, determined by Exame Nacional de Cursos (ENC), characterized by the trend of setting a ranking for the sector. The use of a single instrument for evaluation of the courses, although makes clear the lack of speciousness for the nursing graduation, assures the qualitative evaluation. The rater is highlighted as a central element of the evaluation process of courses, due to the possibility of dialog within the institutions, translated into a modality of formative evaluation. Moreover the committee does not establish relationship between the evaluation and employment, the offer and enlargement of courses and openings; it determines the need of new working positions. The expansion of bachelors degrees show a greater growth in the private sector, being the offer of openings in the public sector fairly stagnated, characterizing the transfer of the social responsibility from the government to the private enterprise. It is brought forward the Curriculum conductresses and the - SUS - conductresses as the guiding axles for the evaluation of the higher education on nursing studies, definer of a new paradigm of graduation in health. Even that the primary intention of the evaluation is not to focalize the specificities of the public health, this becomes undeniable, due - SUS - is based on this values. It is also proper to consider, that the system has elements of regulation character, which are not used to detain the creation of mercantilist courses and care for the graduation quality. Due to the formative character of the evaluation, the challenge is settled in the fact that it leads to real contributions on the elaboration and development of politic-pedagogical projects to form the - SUS - workers-to-be.

Optimizing Sample Design for Approximate Query Processing

Rösch, Philipp, Lehner, Wolfgang 30 November 2020 (has links)
The rapid increase of data volumes makes sampling a crucial component of modern data management systems. Although there is a large body of work on database sampling, the problem of automatically determine the optimal sample for a given query remained (almost) unaddressed. To tackle this problem the authors propose a sample advisor based on a novel cost model. Primarily designed for advising samples of a few queries specified by an expert, the authors additionally propose two extensions of the sample advisor. The first extension enhances the applicability by utilizing recorded workload information and taking memory bounds into account. The second extension increases the effectiveness by merging samples in case of overlapping pieces of sample advice. For both extensions, the authors present exact and heuristic solutions. Within their evaluation, the authors analyze the properties of the cost model and demonstrate the effectiveness and the efficiency of the heuristic solutions with a variety of experiments.

Constructing low cost core-satellite portfolios with multiple risk constraints: practical applications to Robo advising in South Africa using active, passive and smart-beta strategies

Smith, Jacques 24 February 2021 (has links)
Risk and tracking error budgeting was originally adopted by large institutional investors, including pension funds, plan sponsors, foundations, and endowments. More recently, risk and tracking error budgeting have gained popularity among financial advisors, multi-managers, fund of funds managers, high net worth individuals as well as retail investors. These techniques contribute to the portfolio optimisation process by limiting the extent to which a portfolio can deviate from its benchmark with regards to risk and tracking error. This is an ambitious paper that attempts to determine the optimal strategy to practically implement risk and tracking error budgeting as a portfolio optimisation technique in South Africa. This study attempts to bridge the gap between active, passive, and smart-beta investment management styles by introducing a low-cost portfolio construction technique, for core-satellite portfolio management, which contributes to the risk and tracking error budgeting process. Core-satellite portfolios are designed to expose the portfolio to a low-cost primary “core” consisting of passive and enhanced index funds, thus systematic risk “beta”, limiting the tracking error of the portfolio. The secondary “satellite” component is allocated to active and smart-beta managers to exploit expected excess return “alpha”. The primary aim of this research is to construct a rule-based product range of core-satellite portfolios called “replica portfolios”. The product range builds on the foundation of the Association for Savings & Investments South Africa (ASISA) framework. The study identifies three “target portfolios” from ASISA's framework, namely (1) High Risk: SA General Equity, (2) Medium Risk: SA Multi-Asset High Equity and (3) Low Risk: SA Multi-Asset Low Equity. Through this framework, active managers from each category are shortlisted using a Sharpe and Information Ratio filter. A secondary filtering technique, namely Returns Based Style Analysis (RBSA) is used to determine the style, R-squared and alpha-generating ability of active managers versus the passive asset classes and style indices they seek to replicate. Applying Euler's theorem for homogenous functions, we decompose the risk of the coresatellite portfolio into the risk contributed by each of its components. The primary mandate of the core-satellite portfolios in the product range is to allocate risk and tracking error efficiently across several investment management styles and asset classes in order to maximise returns while remaining within the specified risk parameters. iii The results highlighted that active managers, after fees, predominantly failed to outperform their benchmarks and passive building blocks, as identified through RBSA over the sample period (October 2009 – September 2019). However, only a small number of active managers generated superior risk-adjusted returns and were included in the core-satellite range of products. This study recommends to investors that they exploit the “hot-hands effect” by investing in specialised, benchmark agnostic active managers who consistently produce superior risk-adjusted returns. By blending active, passive and smart-beta strategies, investors are exposed to less total risk, less risk per holding and a lower tracking error. The three coresatellite portfolios developed in this study generated absolute and risk-adjusted returns that are more significant than their active and passive counterparts. Fee arbitrage was derived through the range of core-satellite products, resulting in tangible alpha over the sample period. The study encourages investors to use smart-beta strategies alongside active and passive funds since it improves Sharpe and Information ratios while enhancing the original portfolio's characteristics.

Factors Influencing Interrole Conflict Among Graduate Student-Parents

Jordan M Dolson (6672935) 12 October 2021 (has links)

Graduate student-parents face numerous challenges, such as balancing their parent, student, and worker roles, and often having to “prove” themselves as serious students and parents. Although these challenges are potentially life-changing and can lead to high graduate student attrition rates, research on the social, academic, and work-related experiences of graduate student-parents is scarce. Through this dissertation, I aimed to shed light on an often overlooked population.

This dissertation is presented in the form of two distinct articles conceptually related in nature. The first article integrates literature from various fields relevant to graduate student-parents. Through a critique of the existing literature, I noted three significant issues: (a) a lack of focus on the experiences of graduate student fathers, (b) a lack of focus on intersectionality, and (c) a virtual nonexistence of how psychologists can bridge the gap between research findings and policy change. The article ends with suggestions for practitioners in university counseling center settings.

The purpose of the second article is to examine whether advisor support buffers the relations between parent-based discrimination and emotional, work-, and family-related outcomes. I hypothesized that the indirect effect between perceived discrimination and SFC/WFC via burnout will be significant and positive at low levels of academic advisor support. I also hypothesized that the simple indirect effect of perceived discrimination on SFC/WFC will be moderated by gender such that the indirect pathway will be stronger and more positive for women than for men. Data were collected on a sample of 261 graduate student-parents using an online survey. Results indicated that burnout mediated the relationship between perceived discrimination and school- and work-family conflict. Neither advisor support or gender moderated the mediated relationship between perceived discrimination and school-and work-family conflict. Practical and clinical implications are discussed, in addition to suggestions for future research.
