Despite being essential for apprenticeship, the stimulus to the student’s active posture (versus
the listener’s one), the respect to the individual learning pace, the formative evaluations and
the supply of systematic feedback to the student are frequently outside the classrooms in
schools and colleges. A strategy to bring such characteristics to the classrooms is through
individualized teaching. One of the individualized teaching procedures most documented and
applied is Fred S. Keller’s Personalized System of Instruction (PSI). Intensively used in the
70‟s, thousands of articles were published about PSI, giving vast empirical evidence about its
results, which, in general, is superior to other forms of teaching. In spite of that, the
application of this method began to decline in the 80‟s. Among the reasons for that, it’s
possible to highlight the amount of initial efforts that were necessary to build a course based
on the PSI, the possible resistance from teachers and educators due to the change in the
teacher’s role from knowledge transmitter to advisor and the necessary logistics to provide a
systematic feedback to students. It’s also worth to emphasize that, independently from which
factors contributed to the decline in the usage of PSI, its efficiency is unquestionable. At the
present work, an individualized teaching methodology based on the PSI was analyzed and
experimented in an introductory course of electromagnetism for Physics students at the third
college semester at the Federal University of Pará (Brazil). This methodology employed some
of the characteristics of the PSI, respecting the features of the subject like the presence of long
calculations and absence of tutors. There was evidence that, despite the introduced
modifications, the application of the methodology may bring many of the positive results
obtained with the application of the PSI.

This research aimed to identify and analyze which possible difficulties that come from
the language students face in the conversion from natural language to mathematical
language. The investigation was carried out during the school year of 2008 in high
school groups of two public schools in the city of Belém, where information has been
collected through mathematics registers produced by the students through tests and
assessments performed every two months. To assist such investigation, the ideas of
Raymond Duval were used as a theoretical reference about the theory of the
mathematics registers of semiotics representation; the concept of meaning
connected to the philosophy of language according to Wittgenstein; also some
considerations by Gottlob Frege about the distinction between meaning and
reference and other ones by the philosopher Gilles-Gaston Granger concerning the
problems of meaning and the formal aspect of mathematical language. The analyses
of the information collected during the period of investigation revealed that, in the
students’ perspective, the conversion of natural language to mathematical language
faces four types of difficulties: the first one has pointed out the fact that there are, in
each record of representation of the same mathematical objective, different contents
to be mobilized; the second one has shown that the students fail when they perform
the conversion of natural language to mathematical language, when they do not
interpret correctly the mathematical rules implied in the proposition of a situation
problem; the third one has appeared from the fact that there are, in the text of a
situation problem, words that the students do not understand the meaning of or may
have an ambiguity of senses; the fourth one has appeared from the fact that the
students do not understand the mathematical meaning of the letters used in the
problem situations.

This is a qualitative narrative research, based on experiences of Amazon´s science and
mathematics teachers in a distance education course that occurred in the context of a Virtual
Learning Environment (VLE). The goal of this research is to Investigate how this formative
experience is catalyst for teacher reflection on Amazon context of teaching science and
mathematics, and which other learning results from such formation appears in different
perceptions of teaching practice in this area at elementary schools. Nine were the subjects
involved in research, which were selected according to the following criteria: being studentteachers
from the post-degree course of science and mathematics education in EDUCIMAT
program, that teach / taught science and mathematics; had a high level of involvement in
interactions occurred in the AVA; expressed full reflexive ideas. As investigative tool, I chose
to hear subjects evidences by means of semi-structured interviews that were recorded in audio
and later transcribed. Besides the interviews, I used my field diary as an information source
which was built during the search through perceptions of the subjects and their contexts, in
addition to the records of various events within the search. Trying to produce new
understandings of investigated narratives, I appropriate myself with Textual Analysis of the
Speech as methods of empirical material analysis. Thus, systematizing subject’s
manifestations taking into account the recurrences and singularities, such analysis gave way to
three themes that I deal with in this research assuming the following headings: i) formation in
the Amazon context: obstacles and confrontations, ii) technologies and VLE: sense(s) of
formative experience and iii) the impact of experience on perceptions of teacher practice and
formation. The analysis shows the difficulties of access to formation, information,
technologies and cities in the Amazon inside, beyond the cost factor, as confrontations to
form itself in that context. Moreover, the subjects show that when they exchange, experience
and interact in the VLE, they gave way indicative of self pointing to (re) invention of itself, to
set a world teacher marked by technological advances and to overcome the use of
technologies that surprise and (trans)form. As a result of the analysis, the subjects announce
knowledge developed through the formative experience that focus on other/new perceptions
of their educational practices: the use of information and communication technologies as
possible tools in addition to the interaction and exchange of experiences and dialogue in
situations of teaching. The VLE, perceived by the subjects as an embedded resource for
formation teachers at a distance, appears as an opportunity to continue formation made by the
diversity of ideas and as a way of bringing up educational technologies in front of difficulties
expressed by the subject.

The main focus of this thesis is to reflect about the publicization of the Natural History in Pará during the end of the 19th Century through the science teaching promoted by the Museu Paraense de História Natural e Etnografia (1889-1900). In this study I make an emphasis in the notions of Education and Natural History in the speeches of the persons who are historically evolved with this Institution and in the strategies which were use to promote the science in the state. Thus, I identify some facts that were found in the documents of the Governators of Pará and in the Bulletin of the Paraense Museum, that shows that since the beginning, in 1866, It sought to study the local nature, publicize the results of the researches and promote lessons about the Natural History. I debate the educational importance of the Public Conferences, the formation of Young researchers of Natural History, the Boletim do Museu Paraense de História Natural e Etnografia (1894), and the Zoo botanical Garden, through their own specific characteristics. Therefore, the research is allied of the different subjects and lines of investigation that have been ocupied with the teaching and dissemination of scientific informations of Natural History Museums; It demonstrates the contribution of this analysis to others researchs of publicization and the history of the Natural Science Teaching. Nervertheless, It can be used as theoretical and methodological support to comparative studies in this field.

Nesta direção, as regras matemáticas evidenciam
Neste sentido, a comunicação

This work is an autobiographical narrative in research that I conducted on change in
teaching practice from the following question: What contributions to the change in
teaching practice may emerge from experiences in the context of physics teaching at
School level? The study was based on four experiences I lived in the teaching
performance: the Project Pre-Vestibular Solidário (PPVS), in a private school, in two
public schools in Santarém-PA, and teaching practice with the Physics Teaching
Through Themes (PTTT), which was held in a state school in Ananindeua-PA
performed exclusively to support this investigation. This last experiment consisted of
a work in cooperation with the teacher practitioner responsible for the class of 3th
degree, at night, which was held in the practice. For analysis, I made use of
memories of teaching the first three experiments, and narratives constructed from the
experience of PTTT. The narratives were produced as daily lesson produced by me
and the teacher practitioner, reports and testimonies from students, and interview
with the teacher. These material were analyzed in order to build understanding about
the process of change in my practice. I consider teachers as agents of educational
change, according to Goodson (2008a, 2008b) and Fullan (2009), and deal with
changes in beliefs and personal values. The analysis identified as elements of
change: changes and reconstruction of models and concepts of teaching-learning
process, teaching status, science, scientific knowledge and formative dimensions
resulting from learning in physics; challenges regarding the complexity of everyday
life in the classroom, the uncertainties of practice, building a relationship of dialogue
with students, promote the motivation for the teaching-learning process in physics,
the quest for continuous learning, reconstruction of the role of teacher-students
relationship in teaching-learning process, develop the practice shared, the difficulties
of production conditions of teachers; interaction arising from exchanges with fellow
teachers, and students, which enabled the construction of the practice of collectively
and shared, and the construction of values and attitudes such as trust, openness,
flexibility , and the internal movement with respect to anxiety, dissatisfaction, conflict
related to the driving modes of teaching, his gaze steady for you, besides the belief in
change. The studies carried out conclude that the change in teaching practice in the
teaching of physics has to do with how we face the conflicts arising from the
distances between the training and educational performance, since during the
training models are built models and conceptions of science teaching, the learning
process, and others that are distant from the daily tasks in the contexts of work and
sometimes need to be rebuilt. Thus, the change in teaching involves multiple
dimensions, continuous learning, openness to dialogue, flexibility to construct and
reconstruct beliefs and values, ways of being and acting in teaching. / UFOPA - Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará

This paper is the outcome of the research that had as aim the analysis of a group of dwellers living by the river in the island of João Pilatos (Ananindeua – PA) showing how they relate the knowledge taught during the clinic on how to form rural entrepreneurs with the know-how they already bring from the traditions of their ancestors, and, especially the math knowledge. The empirical part of this research took place in two different spots and in different moments: the first one was held in the island of João Pilatos where the data about the history of the communities living there were collected, as well as the daily chores and also the fishing activities, the plantation, the exploitation of the forest and the preparing of the charcoal, and the trade of these goods. In this moment, the only resources used were a notebook and a pen to scribble and the hearing technique as well as the dialogue. The second moment happened during the clinic on the formation of rural entrepreneurs promoted by SENAR (National Service of Rural Learning). In this place, my participation in the group was limited to listening and watching the gestures and facial expressions of the participants who were there. Due to this, the observation followed by the notes, were the techniques used during this stage. After the clinic, some semi-structured interviews were held with the subjects of this research with the aim of complementing the notes made during the clinic. The Sociology and the Ethnomathematics were the theoretical basis used in the organization and analysis of the field information. In the field of sociology, I searched Antony Giddens, Renato Ortiz and Georges Balandier to analyze the phenomenom of economic and social globalization over these dwellers’ culture and Berger & Luckmann with his theory “The social construction of the reality” to analyze the livelihood and the production of knowledge. In the field of Ethnomathematics, I used the Ethnomathematics under D’Ambrosio’s approach as well as the research of the area. At the end of the analysis, concerning to the mathematics, I realized that having control over calculations and formulas of this area of knowledge was not the condition enough to enable the subjects reach the target of the clinic, once either the entrepreneurs or the dwellers faced the Mathematics in different aspects when it came to explaining and seeing the world. Through this cultural conflict, it is possible to point out that the subjects of this research would reach the target of the clinic and establish a great amount of relations among academic Mathematics and the knowledge of their traditions if the mathematics studied, during the clinic, were re-meant in the context of the dwellers. As consequence of the first analysis, it is also possible to conclude that, according to the conception currently present in the school environment that not only distinguishes but also separates the cultural values which considers the production of knowledge coming from academic/scientific environment and that these types of knowledge should be socialized in a disciplined way, the possibilities of a greater number of relations between knowledge of the cultural tradition and the scientific tradition have more possibilities to occur in non-academic environment.

A pesquisa empírica
The aim of this research was to investigate the know-how in the production of rabecas in
Bragança-PA and the mathematical relations proceeded by this context. The empirical
research was constituted by systematical observations of the process of artisanal production of
rabecas, considering the artisans’ practice. From the ethnomathematical viewpoint, the
research occurred through filming, interviews and photo records of their relationship with the
local culture, highlighting the Marujada Festival which happens every year in Bragança,
whereabouts the rabecas are part of this tradition. This research search for the comprehension
of the traditional know-how in the production of rabecas and the mathematical knowledge that
are established as an organized knowledge, with a logic that is parallel to science, however
completing it at the same time. The methodological concepts were based on the principles of
qualitative research made in-loco, when the process of production of rabecas was
accompanied in all the stages. The ethnomathematics was the theoretical support used to
comprehend the field observation. The results showed us that the artisans have a unique logic
for measuring and establishing mathematical comparisons using parts of the body and the
senses such as hearing, seeing and feeling. The knowledge of masters in producing rabecas is
only a different way to think about the empirical knowledge as part of science ans the
mathematical know-how, commonly taught by formal education.

This dissertation focuses on the historiography of teacher researchers Course of Social Sciences, Universidade da Amazônia - UNAMA, the investigative activity defined as the centerpiece of the study. It was established as the limit time and space from 1980 until the year 2008 electing such period in the light of developments in the field of social, political, economic and educational. The objective of the study to analyze the activity of investigative research professors of the Course of Social Sciences, UNAMA, by evaluating the impacts of policy research institutionalized in investigative activity of teachers in the above course and reflect on the teachers' positions on research policy institutionalized. Four major problems for basic research: The activity of the teachers of social science course UNAMA was the result of changes in the social set that stretched from the 1980s? Research policy institutionalized in UNAMA reflected in the investigative activity of the course faculty of Social Sciences? How is the position of teachers of social sciences UNAMA facing policy research institutionalized? I have adopted as a methodological approach to documentary research, complemented by field research and interviews with teachers of that course. It appears that the investigative activity as a component part of the course to teaching social science UNAMA expresses not consistent enough to meet the quality of knowledge produced, but it justifies the status of university. It is thought that the group described by the maintainer of UNAMA for research as part of the making of teachers as expressed in institutional documents not converge with the existing reality in the institution. / SEDUC/PA - Secretaria de Estado de Educação
