Nery, Maria Clara Ramos January 2001 (has links)
This work presents the interdependence relationship among the teodicéia of the Universal Church of Kingdon of God, your discursive practice, your comunicationals strategies, your paradoxes and coherences and the change of the representations and comportamentals patterns of your believers and/or of your followers. Thus we have the thematic of the religion and representation of the world, aiming at to demonstrate the complexity of the religions phenomenon in your double function: social and psychological. Then it in the context of the neopentecostalism, your outstanding structural lines related with the strtuctural lines of the Brazilian society. Analysis of Edir Macedo “Work the Man’s of God Profile”, demonstrat the present paradoxes among the textual and oral language, of the meetings of the referred Church. It is followed by the analysis of the Universal, as driving force of the change of the representations and comportamentals patterns, for the encounter of a struture of plausibility of the word, at the same time in which it aims to try clearing the discursive practice of the church, diretly related with individual minds and you group of regressive charater, that is, imediatistas, intolerant to the frustrations, ambivalent, in other words, not getting to translate the reality appropriately, for the ones which the speech of the “here and now” is adapted. Finally, the thematic is approached secularizacion, ambivalence aond reenchantement of the world, bring used as the practical head office the approaches and conceptions of Peter Berger and Zygmunt Bauman, demonstrating to be the Universal phenomenon of Kingdon of God and your entail with your believers and your followers the reflex of the secularizacion process that one find accompanied of the reenchantment of the world. It is on attempt of giving a new four of the Universal of Kingdon of God, without arresting for only one road, but to show and approach different from the existent options in the scope of the Sociology of the Religions.

Motherhood is known as a sublime moment in the life of a woman, even with the changes in the contemporary world, this idealized vision of motherhood is composed by some factors: social, cultural and historical. Psychoanalysis has also contributed in building this vision, not only the responsibility of these mothers for the psychic structure of these children, but also for the naturalization of motherhood characterized it as their own femininity. However, many authors pointed out the difficulties and pressures experienced by the these mothers from pregnancy to post partum relate to their babies, because the experience of motherhood always comes along with a conflicted feelings, and this is called ambivalence. The literature also indicates that ambivalence becomes more intense when the encounter with the real baby is marked by a disease. In the present work, we studied the effects of allergy to the protein in cow's milk (APLV) in mother-infant relationship, once that this disease which has become importance in the pediatric context ,it shows an particularity: when it get to the baby who is breastfeeding, who carries on a free diet of any dairy product is the mother because of this particularity we believe that whenever this disease reaches the baby it creates a special condition between the development of mother-infant relationship. In order to understand the manifestations of ambivalence feelings in mothers who have allergic babies , we carried out a qualitative investigation of psychoanalysis, and as a starting... Cities are the place for excellence of tenseness and conflicts materialization created by the difficulty to live with the different as alterity. Despite the geographical, historic, economic and cultural singularity of the cities, on large or small scale, there is a visualization of the processes of socio-space segregation among individuals and social groups, enlarged and resignified through the mixture of old themes and structural problems with the new sensibility, fear and stigma emergency brought by capitalist modernity on its global phase. So, there is an attempt to understand the joint between global processes and local particularity relating to the tenseness and discomfort caused by the "myxophobia" to people from incongruous places with some kind of order and civility. The city of Belo Jardim was the analysis stage of these questions, namely, it interested me to investigate how the city s élite, in the name of an aesthetic and social conception, produces representations and practices of segregation and how this grows and affects the interval of a popular neighborhood. Finally, it deals with the analysis of urban gardening practices, the way the élite and established groups produce Belo Jardim's outcasts, those who are seen and considered as trashy. This research is theoretical and methodologically based on a historic and socioanthropological perspective.

Overseas doctoral students' identity evolution

Hsiang, Ying Ying Nikko January 2015 (has links)
This qualitative research follows narrative enquiry principles and explores the implications of studying abroad for overseas doctoral students’ identity evolution. The research argues for the legitimacy of the concept that views identity as a state that evolves over time and across space as it undergoes ambivalence and emancipation (Bhabha 2004; Hall, 1990; Rutherford, 1990). The inquiry was informed by the data collected from in-depth interviews of eight overseas doctoral students from seven nationalities, three academic disciplines, and at different stages in their Ph.D. research. They were individually interviewed four times with an interval of three months in between from 2011 to 2012. The narratives concerning their learning and living experience, interpreted in the light of academic, personal, social, and cultural and national aspects of life, contextualise the participants and reveal their identity evolution and hybrid identities. Findings address dynamics of the Ph.D. journey, supervisory issues, socio-economic factors, national and cultural identities developed overseas, change over time and across space, and impact of being involved in this study. These findings reveal that the overseas doctoral students’ doctoral journey is extraordinary in that it reflects a period of time that is dynamic and destabilizing; it can pose the risk of a loss of cultural identity; it can be transactional; it reveals the family as a strong support system; it illustrates that global awareness is fluid that the social life can undergo ambivalence and emancipation from social codes and cultural norms, and that hybrid identities have various forms. The implications of this study are that there is no linear progression in identity evolution, that being empowering is not always the result of hybrid identities, that a past-present-future dynamic emerges to facilitate identity evolution, and that an overseas doctoral education is part of a personal life spectrum. My study underscores the value of the role of a holistic supervisor that unifies the roles of a mentor and an advisor; indicates that Ph.D. host institution is advised to see overseas doctoral students as more than ‘students’ but as whole persons developing under different circumstances; and, problematises the notion of objectivity in conducting a research study such as this one in which the advantage of empathy outweighs the risks of subjectivity. I distinguished between what I found to be particular to overseas students as compared to observations that I found to be applicable to all doctoral students. While Ph.D. phases, student-Ph.D. relationship, additional requirements and work during the Ph.D. process, supervisor issues, and identity presentation, shifts, and management were indicative of the general doctoral students’ learning and living experiences, writing concerns, socio-economic factors that involved home country situations, friendship sought in a different context, socio-cultural adjustment, and cultural and national identities were signposts of the doctoral student with overseas status. Most importantly, my study suggests that overseas doctoral students are distinct and worth studying and their identities were responsible for a myriad of situations for them to evolve.

Stenvall, Maja January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is aimed at getting a better understanding of drinking games as a social phenomenon. Data has been collected in form of individual interviews with five students that has been taken part of drinking games. The focus of this study is to understand what function the games and the drinking they involve have for the students. Randal Collins theory of interactional rituals combined with Robert Mertons concept of sociological ambivalence is applied to analyze how the students construct meaning relating to the phenomenon drinking games. The results indicate that the games serve as a gathering point at a social event, and provides a way for participants to interact and socialize that eases the otherwise uncomfortable feeling that can be experienced when meeting new people. The alcohol seems to have a central role in the games as an investment for the players, at the same time as it helps them to get  intoxicated. The games thereby become a convenient solution for the partying students that wants to get drunk and socialize together. But the ritualistic perspective also helps to uncover two secret rules that must be followed to take part of the ritual in the “right” way.

A theory of experienced paradoxical tension in co-opetitive alliances

Raza-Ullah, Tatbeeq January 2017 (has links)
Empirical research shows that co-opetition is a double-edged sword such that it can both help and hurt the achievement of desired performance outcomes. Despite the proliferation of co-opetitive alliances (i.e., simultaneous pursuit of competition and cooperation between firms), the field still lacks a theoretical framework that could help explain the dynamic mechanisms and conditions leading to these contradictory results. This thesis attempts to distill and integrate arguments from different literature streams of paradox, ambidexterity, and emotion to develop a framework in which experienced paradoxical tension (i.e., individual level cognitive difficulty and emotional ambivalence that pulls managers in opposite directions) serves as the main underlying mechanism through which co-opetition (i.e., an inter-firm level paradox) differentially affects performance in co-opetitive alliances. I further propose that firms' failure or success to achieve performance objectives in co- opetitive alliances is also contingent upon having a strong co-opetition capability (i.e., a multidimensional capability comprising analytical, emotional, and balancing dimensions). This thesis includes four appended papers that have used various methodologies such as anecdotes, exemplar cases, and particularly survey questionnaires to test some parts of the developed theory. The results from different papers show support for most of the tested relationships. Overall, the thesis contributes by proposing a much- need theory of experienced paradoxical tension that address the core issues related to the nature, source, consequence, and management of such tension in co-opetitive alliances. My theory has implications for research on organizational paradox and emotion, as well as for senior managers who are responsible for the success of co-opetitive alliances.

Managing the Transformation Towards Advanced Service Provision . A Multilevel Framework of Servitization

Lenka, Sambit January 2018 (has links)
Product-oriented firms are increasingly moving towards providing services to customers in a bid to differentiate their offerings, increase customer loyalty, and achieve higher, more stable revenue streams. This trend of servitization is becoming ubiquitous in manufacturing firms. These firms increasingly invest resources in efforts to offer basic and advanced services. Basic services focus on supporting the functioning of the product and increasing its efficiency. But advanced services focus on helping customers achieve their desired outcomes. Providing advanced services holds potential of greater benefits for the manufacturing firms, but a closer look indicates that most firms still largely offer basic services. This is because, advanced services demand greater intensity in relationships with customers, a higher degree of customization, and a sharper focus on assisting customers in their own value creation processes.   Offering advanced services is more risky, complex, and difficult to execute. Therefore, significant changes must be made in terms of company culture, structures, processes, capabilities, and business models. In fact, servitizing firms must transform almost every aspect of the way they do business – from their business strategy to their capabilities, organizational structure, culture, mindset, and business logic. This transformation towards advanced services therefore affects all levels of the firm: strategic, operational, and individual levels. Although prior studies have explored many aspects of the challenges involved in the transformation towards advanced services, they typically focus on function-specific practices without linking initiatives at other organizational levels. The literature lacks a multilevel understanding of the transformation process. Such an understanding could provide a better understanding of the transformation process, linking various aspects at multiple levels within the firm. To address this gap, this dissertation aims to improve our understanding of multilevel transformation towards advanced service provision in manufacturing firms.   Based on extensive qualitative studies with 13 leading Swedish manufacturing firms engaged in servitization, this dissertation provides a framework that shows how manufacturing firms experience ambivalence (i.e. the simultaneous pull in opposite directions) during transformation and how this affects the firm at the strategic, operational, and individual levels. The dissertation provides specific insights of how individual actions enable capability building for advanced services and how capabilities for advanced services help address business model alignment problems, thereby supporting transformation towards advanced service provision. This dissertation extends our understanding of how various aspects at multiple levels within a manufacturing firm are linked during the transformation towards advanced service provision. It marks one of the initial attempts in the servitization research to provide a multilevel explanation of firms’ overall transformation from providers of products to providers of advanced services.   This dissertation also uses the lens of ambivalence to provide insights into co-existing product and service orientations and their consequences during servitization. Ambivalence theories have been associated with individuals and have been applied in the sociopsychology literature. This dissertation extends these theories to the organizational context and the servitization literature. It also identifies specific capabilities that can help manufacturing firms in their transformation towards advanced services. Specifically, it redefines digitalization capability and shows how this capability is one of the most important capabilities that manufacturing firms must develop to transform into advanced service providers. This dissertation also provides a capability maturity model that can help guide the capability development process in manufacturing firms. Finally, this dissertation contributes to our understanding of the role of individuals in the transformation process within firms. This is one of the first systematic attempts to provide a microfoundation-based view of individual-level influences on higher-level outcomes in the servitization literature.

Innanför och utanför : Familjehems upplevelser av barnterapi / Inside and outside : Foster families experience of child therapy

Ness, Stuart January 2018 (has links)
Introduction: There currently exists a dearth of research studying how psychosocialtreatment methods affect relationships outside of the treatment. Still less insightexists into how foster families experience the psychodynamic treatment of childrenin their care. This study attempts to examine and describe foster families experienceof psychodynamic child therapy and what they themselves have understood to be thetreatments purpose and goal. Question:How have the interview subjects experienced having responsibility for a child intherapy and what have they understood to be the treatments purpose and goals? What effect has the therapy had on the child itself and how has the therapy affectedtheir own relationship to the child?Method: The author has attempted to gain an understanding of the interviewsubject’s subjective experience of having responsibility for a foster child inpsychotherapy. The method chosen has been five semi-structured interviews thathave then been analyzed to uncover the underlying latent themes in the originalmaterial. Result: The material has been categorized into one main theme and threesub-themes. The main theme that the material shows is an ambivalent to thepsychotherapeutic treatment. The main theme has then been broken down in thethree subsets based upon how the interview subjects ambivalence appears in relationto their experience of participation , alliance , and change. Discussion: Results of the study show that the ambivalence that i felt towards thepsychodynamic treatment is an expected result of the treatment influence on thefamily system. The study confirm earlier research that places importance on a strongalliance between the therapist and the parents in the facilitation of a successfultherapeutic treatment.
