O Haikai nas artes visuais: tradução intersemiótica / O Haikai nas artes visuais: tradução intersemiótica

Hirashima, Cezar Katsumi 28 March 2007 (has links)
Based on the theory of Intersemiotic Translation developed by Julio Plaza, the central purpose of this research is to analyse the process of recreation of aesthetical forms in intersemiotic translations of haiku into the universe of visual arts. More specifically, considering the peculiarities of this type of poem in its syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic aspects, we will analyse how the equivalences on these levels will be obtained in the process of intersign transmutation. Besides, since the media of artistic production are important, especially in the case of intersemiotic translation, we will observe how the medium can aid the achievement of equivalence. As a case study, we propose to analyse intersemiotic translations of the haiku Furuikeya (composed by the Japanese poet Matsuo Bash) into visual arts in three different types of medium, chosen from their semiotic peculiarities in relation to the process of image production: craft media, mechanical media, and electronic media.

INTERNATIONALIZATION OF CONTEMPORARY ART : Case studies of three Finnish artists who have exhibited in Sweden

Tuomaala, Outi January 2014 (has links)
This thesis examines the internationalization of Finnish contemporary artists. The focus is on their exhibitions at contemporary art institutions in Sweden, covering the period 2004–2013. The aim is to investigate what makes these exhibitions to materialize. The main question is: How do different actors, networks, collaborations, and the field of artistic production look like when art is exported for exhibition purposes from Finland to Sweden? Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory and the Uppsala internationalization process model are used as the theoretical framework. Information is collected via interviews with three Finnish artists and three Swedish curators. The main result is that the artists do not actively impact the internationalization process themselves. Rather, the internationalization occurs through an international network of professionals, some acting on behalf of the artists, and some acting in their own interests. The main driving factor for internationalization is that the Finnish art market is small. Consequently, young contemporary artists are oriented internationally. For internationalization to occur, the artists must be available to foreign curators through the international networks. Finland is aware of this and promotes international art contacts through the foundation Frame Visual Art Finland. Important contact surfaces, where curators can learn about the artists, are art events, like European art biennials.

Cataguases: “Land of Fine People”, “Cradle of the National Cinema”, “Little Princess of the Mata”, fertile ground for reflections about a place with a kind of cultural vocation that gave birth to the Movimento Verde and was captured by the lenses of Humberto Mauro who devoted himself to establishing a relationship of genuine intimacy with the artistic universe. Recognized well beyond its own frontiers for a certain spontaneity that always impelled it towards manifestations of the cultural kind, the city has been perceived as idiosyncratic and something of a provocateur in microcosm by Brazil’s major cities. The goal of this thesis is to reveal the “Many Cataguases” that hide behind the myth of the cultural city. In the playing out of the historiography and, throughout, in the discourse regarding the cataguasense essence here is a past full of great achievements led by intellectuals and artists of international renown It is important to cast off the that somewhat sacred canopy that covers over the city’s identity. I look also at religious issues and how they play into comparisons between the modernizing perspective of the city and the idea of its unique cultural vocation. Even though it has been somewhat ritualized by the public powers and underutilized by educational institutions, the idea that Cataguases is a unique place to practice art has not lost its power nowadays. In spite of the fact that the city’s “artistic inclination” supposedly affects all of society, in fact, this same inclination is limited to individuals connected to the world of culture. The consequences of this fact explain why from the heart of the city to the rural areas passing through its periphery there is just one school of thought associated with artistic production and the artists who holds these view really play the role of an elite vanguard. Based upon an epistemological combination of anthropology, sociology and history, one of the main objectives of this study is to highlight the specifics of the narratives that enable a small part of the intellectual elite to appropriate and reinvent the discourse that translates into “Catagu(arte)”. Even today, closely linked to the Movimento Verde and the Cycle of Cataguases, the myth of the cultural vocation of Cataguases makes good common sense at home and beyond.

Por fora da arte: um estudo sobre o campo da produção artística e a identidade do artista plástico / Outside the arts: a study of the field of artistic production and the visual artist s identity

Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-29T13:32:23Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Ricardo Giorgi Portolano.pdf: 600488 bytes, checksum: e424f17db1a3bce51fa2c4b55581553e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-08 / This work analises the construction of the visual artist s identity in relation to the field of artistic production. At first, we look at Pierre Bourdieu s field theory, in which the field of artistic production reveals itself as a structure with disputes. These power disputes define the values that determine the works that will be considered art and which artist will be considered as such. After that, we discuss the identity theory developed by Jürgen Habermas and Antonio da Costa Ciampa, to establish a theorical frame to understand how identities are constructed nowadays. There are identities that have the possibility to determine themselves in accordance with their relationships, and there are identities that are dominated and determined by other interests than their own. One of the objectives in this thesis is to analise the visual artist s possibilities of emancipation while inside a field that has forces that may specify his or her identity based on these interests. For empirical data, we interviewed a professional visual artist, through a semidirected interview based on the narrative of his life story / O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a construção da identidade do artista plástico ao se relacionar com o campo da produção artística.

Mettre en forme le travail artistique : les ressources de l’incertitude dans l’accueil en résidence d’artistes plasticiens / Shaping artistic work : uncertainty as a resource in artist in residence programs

Le Falher, Olivier 25 January 2010 (has links)
During the last thirty years, visual artists have had to familiarize themselves with a wide range of public support devices that operate long before the art works are completed and that are part of the creation process itself. This kind of partnership requires advance planning of the resources, the duration and the goals to be achieved, all of which seem in contradiction with the specificity of an artist’s work, where both the process and the final result are never entirely predictable. Can public support policies for artistic creation fit into this kind of uncertainty ? I answer this question positively, basing myself on a study of Artist in Residence programs for visual artists in France. Such programs are a typical means of socializing both the time and the space of an artist’s work. Thus I examine the artistic work by studying the documents which both shape and institutionalize it. Through the Communication Sciences, I first compare two official texts on Artist in Residence programs, and secondly I examine a corpus of calls for applications sent out to visual artists. In both cases I highlight the tension between two contrasting visions of artistic work. Either the artist is recognized for his experimentation and his research alone, or he is engaged for a commissioned work within a well-defined cultural program. In the third part of this study, I look at the Artist in Residence programs for visual artists in the city of Marseille. I examine the different mediations along the chain of artistic production, from the selection of the artist through to the exhibiting of the finished work(s), and including the commentaries around the project. We see that the uncertainty surrounding the artistic creation appears, in fact, to be a means for those in charge of these programs to share their expertise (and actively participate) within the period of time that separates the beginning of an art work from its finished version. This thesis, by associating the discourse analysis and the qualitative methods (observations and interviews), posits that the uncertainty discussed above is, in fact, a conventional, predictable and routine dimension of public support for artistic creation
