We sought to further identify the influence of the variables gender, age and schooling. 319 participants (117 from the group of non-offenders, 135 from the group of non offenders and 109 involved in accidents), with ages ranging from 17 to 77 years (M=40.62, SD=10.8) with varied educational (Elementary Education, Secondary Education and Higher Education) of both sexes (314 men and 47 women) responded to the tests R1, Aten??o Concentrada and Palogr?fico, during the evaluation process for transit. The means and standard deviations for each subgroup were calculated and compared by analysis of variance. The results showed that the variable group did not affect any of the measures, only your interaction with sex in the measure of productivity in Palogr?fico (F = 4.18, p ? 0.001). There was also the influence of age on performance on the test R1 (F = 6.55, p ? 0.001), as well as its interaction with the group in the number of hits in the test AC (F = 1.85, p ? 0.001). Given some limitations of the study, such as uneven number of participants by sex and the use of a questionable criterion for separation of groups (self-report in relation to accidents and transit s fine), further studies are recommended to ensure that confirm or not the results.

No. of bitstreams: 1 MARCIA CALIXTO DOS SANTOS.pdf: 1003356 bytes, checksum: c4b5e00e909e2559f64ab1568facdc7b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-12-11 / Chronic renal failure (CRF) is the gradual and progressive loss of kidney functions, which can promote severe restrictions and psychosocial impact into the individual?s life, even risking to lead her or him to death. Its high prevalence in the current context defines it as a worldwide public health problem. The present study aimed to evaluate the degree of association between adaptive efficacy, psychopathological symptoms and stress levels in chronic renal failure patients and verify whether these variables could predict their adaptive efficacy. We adopted the concept of adaptive efficacy, by Ryad Simon, a measure of the quality of the individual's responses to situations of their day-by-day. The sample was composed of 50 patients with chronic renal failure, of both sexes, attended hemodialysis unit of a general hospital inland city of S?o Paulo. The assessment instruments used were: EDAO-AR - Self-Report Scale of Adaptation, designed to evaluate the quality of the adaptation of the sector Affective-Relational (AR) and Productivity (Pr); EAS- 40 - Assessment Symptoms Scale-40, which assesses the severity of psychopathological symptoms according to four dimensions: psychoticism, obsessiveness-compulsiveness, somatization and anxiety; ISSL Lipp Stress Symptoms Inventory, which assesses the symptoms of stress in the psychological and physical, besides the person?s stress phase. The results suggested that the participants were divided into effectively adapted (76%) and poorly ineffectively adapted (24%). Regarding psychopathological symptoms, the average score was 0,41 (? 0,33) (cutoff 1[E1]); 56% showed no stress and 44 % had stress, in the Resistance Phase (34%) with predominant psychological symptoms of stress (73%). The values of the Spearman Rank Correlation (?) confirmed the initial hypotheses as they pointed to significant and negative associations between psychopathological symptoms and adaptive efficacy and between stress and adaptive efficacy; significant positive association between psychopathological symptoms and stress. The structural equations modeling (SEM) suggested that psychopathological symptoms predict psychological stress and adaptive efficacy, however physical stress and phases of stress are not depicted as predictors of adaptive efficacy.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Micheli Aparecida Gomes dos Santos.pdf: 4751573 bytes, checksum: 7ca8f16261c512805eef4512cc814ae4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-02-18 / Pontif?cia Universidade Cat?lica de Campinas / The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the level of stress and anxiety in a sample of patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) before and after a month of medical or surgical treatment. To collect the data were used the ISSL - Inventory of Stress Symptoms for Adults Lipp, the Beck Anxiety Scale (BAI), answered twice, once before the start of treatment and another, one month after the start of the treatment, and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The sample consisted of 18 patients, 13 men and 5 women, aged between 26 and 74 years (Mean=51,83, SD=13,46). The assessment showed that 77,8% (n=14) of patients had stress on the first evaluation, and such amount was reduced to 16,7% (n=3) in the second evaluation after treatment. Thus, patients showed a significant decrease in mean stress symptoms after treatment (z=-3,53, p<0,000). In relation to anxiety , 44,4% of participants had a minimum degree of anxiety symptoms at the first assessment, although were present mild, moderate and severe degrees. In the second assessment serious cases disappear and there was a significant decrease in moderate cases. Patients showed a significant decrease in mean anxiety symptoms of post-treatment (z=-3,51, p<0,000). Patients with moderate apnea showed a significant decrease in mean stress (z=-2,971, p<0,003) and anxiety symptoms (z=-2,032, p<0,042) of post-treatment. The same occurred in relation to stress (z=-2,023, p<0,043) and anxiety (z=-2,944, p<0,003) in patients with severe apnea. Furthermore, women showed no significant improvement in the symptoms of post-treatment in stress (z=-1,633; p=0,102) and anxiety (z=-1,625; p=0,104) symptoms, while men had reduced the symptoms of stress (z=-3,184; p=0,001) and anxiety (z=-3,062; p=0,001). The research of the type of treatment showed significant improvement in stress (z=- 3,21, p=0,001) and anxiety symptoms (z= -3,17, p=0,001) in patients who were treated with CPAP . Already in the surgical group, no significant differences in any of the constructs assessed were noted. Thus it was possible to see that the patients showed significant improvement in symptoms of stress and anxiety in the second evaluation, in order to be able to say to this group of individuals, that treatment had the desired effect, being effective in improving symptoms of stress and anxiety for the general sample for the two levels (moderate and severe) illness, for males and for patients who were treated with CPAP.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Queila Guise Milian.pdf: 769684 bytes, checksum: 29bed134eebd437c64b7d36b3e17145d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-02-05 / Pontif?cia Universidade Cat?lica de Campinas / The Brazilian culture needs to build and validate tests. The Intelectual and Creative Battery Evaluation - BAICA suggests the evaluation of two constructs in a single test: intelligence and creativity. BAICA is currently being developed in Brazil and is based on the american Woodcock Johnson III (WJ-III) Battery, which covers large areas of the C-H-C model of intelligence. The creativity evaluation is based on Torrance's creativity tests. This thesis aims at investigating validity evidences of criteria in Intelectual and Creative Battery Evaluation, youth and adult form - BAICA through a convergence source and making use of tests that have already been validated in Brazil and that succeed in measuring the same skills. Our sample was composed of high school freshmen from a public school, of which 48 were male and 51 were female. Age groups ranged from 15 to 17 years old. Participants were submitted to BAICA and to the following tests: Reasoning Battery Tests - BPR-5; Torrance Test of Creative Thinking, Verbal Form; Torrance Test of Creative Thinking, Figural form; Divided Attention Test - TEADI; and Alternate Attention Test - TEALT. The results were then analyzed according to Pearson's Correlation. For gender differences, we used the OneWay ANOVA for each of the tests applied. Results showed that there is significant correlation between all BAICA's cognitive subtests, as well as between all BPR-5, TEADI and TEALT subtests. Such correlation ranged from 0,28 to 0,52. The same was true for the creative verbal skills analyzed through BAICA and through Torrances' Test of Creative Thinking, verbal form, where significant correlations ranged from 0,26 to 0,54. Regarding figurative skills, there has been significant correlations between the skills analyzed, with the exception of the figurative originality and the picture's creative index. Finally, in what it regards gender, BAICA showed significant differences through ANOVA for the verbal thinking, figurative elaboration, verbal flexibility and expressive tiltles, as girls scored higher. We found little significant correlation for intelligence and creativity. We thus conclude that there is validity evidence for BAICA when it is used in convergence with other tests, but intellectual and creative skills show very weak relations.

It has been carried out the factorial analysis and the scale remained with 24 items in 4 factors: Depressed Mood, Social Relationship, Self-Esteem and Autonomic-Physiologic Response. The Cronbach Coefficient has shown good precision (alfa=0,82). Table in percentile and T score were elaborated for: type of school, sex, age, school grade, age range and school grade range. Statistical analysis (Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis) have shown the necessity of specific standards for: type of school (p<0,001), sex (p<0,001) and public school x sex (p<0,001). In the analysis of the children who presented percentile above 75, the Qui-Square showed significant difference for: type of school (x?=11,30 GL=1; p<0,001), sex (x?=9,79; GL=1; p=0,002) and public school x sex (x?=11,13; GL=1; p<0,001). The Children Depression Evaluation Scale has proven to be valid and trustworthy for the use in the Brazilian population, being of great value for mental health research, prevention and treatment.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Diana Laloni.pdf: 9194723 bytes, checksum: ff428b27358161e85665173e22f5b014 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2001-11-23 / A reliability and validity study of the Symptom Checklist 90 Revised (SCL-90- R) among clinical population is presented, besides a standardization preliminary study. SCL-90-R is a self report, multidimensional scale to diagnose psychopathological symptoms according to 9 dimensions: somatization, compulsivity-obsessivity, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideas and psychoticism, with 90 Items to which the respondent indicates an intensity degree on a Likert scale of 5 points: from 0 (none) to 5 (much). The sample amounts to 200 patients ( Case Group = CaG) from the mental health ambulatory and 399 patients from the infirmaries (Control Group = CoG ) of a university general hospital, ages over 19 (M = 43.5; DP = 23.8) , 41% women and 59% men. The reliability studies through Internal Consistency Analysis and Test Retest indicate good internal consistency (from 0.73 to 0.88) and temporal stability (from 0.40 to 0.82), thus confirming the instrument is reliabilily. The validity study is made through construct validation and criterion validation. The construct validation approached through Factorial Analysis (FA), Cluster Analysis (CLA) and Correspondence Analysis (CA) indicates that the Items group into 4 factors (40% total variance) and that the symptom intensity at intermediate levels (1= little, 2= moderately, 3= fairly) is poorly discriminatory. The criterion validity researched through Compared and Contrasted Groups, Kruskal-Wallis and Concurrent Validity demonstrates that the instrument discriminates groups (Global Severity Index GSI e CaG= 1.34 for men and 1.47 for women; GSI-CoG=0,80 for men and 0,90 for women), KW (__ of 26.5 to 88.5 with significance level 0.001). Using the GHQ as external measurement criterion, a 0.74 correlation is observed. It is suggested that from the 90 original Items, 40 that presented 0.30 minimum factorial charge on respective factors be retained for adaptation in a Portuguese version and distributed into 4 dimensions: psychoticism, obsessivitycompulsivity, somatization and anxiety. Furthermore, it is suggested that a 3 point Likert scale (0=none; 1=little, 2=much) be adopted for symptom intensity evaluation. The scale, in this format, provides valid measure of psychotic, neurotic, psychosomatic and anxiety predominance symptoms in patients tended to in Brazilian general hospitals. It is proposed that Brazilian standards be developed in future researches.

Eighty one people (61.73% from 45 to 59 years and 38.27% over 60 years) participated in the survey. The tests Battery of Cognitive Abilities of Adults (BAIAD), Thinking Creatively with Words and Pictures, besides the Self-Assessment Scale about the Performance of Cognitive and Creative Skills, and Leisure and a Personal Data Questionnaire were used for data collection. The instruments were administered individually in three or more sessions in institutions for the elderly, after free and informed consent of participants. The results showed that the verbal tests, visual combination and creativity (verbal and pictorial) were affected only by the educational level (ANOVA). The memory tests were also under significant influence of schooling and the interactions among gender, age and education. Intelligence and creativity are correlated. The performance test was related to the participants self assessment by the scale. It is concluded that schooling is a significant factor in the cognitive and creative performance.

The scale was based in the theory model of the learning styles made up of 22 elements grouped in five dimensions: environmental, emotional, sociological, physiological and psychological. The first version of a Likert scale consists of 88 items and was rated by 8 judges, finding agreement index (? 87%), therefore high. It has also been applied in a sample of 510 university students, comprising 246 females and 264 males. Internal consistency index measured by Cronbach's alpha was 0.82 for the initial version of the scale, however, 17 items were excluded due to correlations (? 0.1) and obtained a value of 0.84 for the Cronbach coefficient corrected. The factor analysis yielded four factors and total variance explained of 27.94%. Internal consistence coefficient was of 0.82 for factor 1, Cognitive Style, 0.84 for factor 2, Style Sociological, 0.76 for factor 3, Style Physiological; 0.70 for factor 4, Environmental Style. The unvaried analysis of the variance presented significant differences by area, gender and field together for the factor 1, once the factor 4 showed significant differences by gender. The instrument showed valid and reliable to evaluate the learning styles in university students. It recommend its use in future researches, as well as psycho educational evaluation in order to facilitate the teacher's teaching methodology in view of the peculiar way the student to develop and conduct their learning strategies. No. of bitstreams: 1 Maria Angela Lourenconi.pdf: 3188195 bytes, checksum: 7bde29f160b0632fbd3df3d3e5ca3617 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-02-21 / The style of communication can facilitate or hindering social relationships, so it is important to identify the style that each individual owns, considering the types of temperaments, and manifests as interlocutor. This study included the types of temperaments proposed was: Extraversion/ Introversion, Thinking/Feeling, Practical/Imaginative, Organized/Flexible, to define the communication styles and construction of Styles Inventory Communication (EEC). The purpose of the study has been determinated the validity of the survey instrument. Two studies were conducted: a content validity, with two steps, qualitative and quantitative, another of construct validity, with participation of 861 students males and females. The value of alpha Cronbach has been equivalent to 0.88 determining high instrument reliability. By factorial analysis the scale items are distributed in: Meticulous/Thoughtful, Expressive/Simpatic, Arguer/Pragmatic and Retracted/ Reliable. The style Meticulous / Thoughtful had greater tendency for men (M = 4.33, SD = 0.029 ) and women (M = 4.37, SD = 0.029) too. In the area of knowledge communication style is more predominant style Meticulous/ Thoughtful (M = 4.39; SD = 0.038) in the area of Exact Sciences. In the area of Biological Sciences the style Arguer/Pragmatic (M = 4.04; SD = 0.036) has higher precedence over others. By the study presented the styles that have significance values less than 0.05 are: Expressive/Simpatic and Retracted/ Reliable, and dependence of the variable gender. Has already the styles, Meticulous/Thoughtful and Arguer/Pragmatic, have significance values less than 0.05 indicating that they are independent for the variables of gender and area of knowledge. The Scale Communication Styles had demonstrated its reliability in the dimensions: Meticulous/Thoughtful (alpha = 0,86), Expressive/Simpatic (alpha = 0,74), Arguer/Pragmatic (alpha = 0,64) and Retracted/ Reliable (alpha = 0,63).
