Boron-doped Diamond Sensors for the Determination of Organic Compounds in Aqueous Media

Hess, Euodia January 2010 (has links)
<p>In electrochemical oxidation treatment of wastewater, the electrode material is an important parameter in optimizing oxidative electrochemical processes, since the mechanism and products of several anodic reactions are known to depend on the anode material. The electrochemical oxidation of benzaldehyde, nitrobenzene and m-cresol on bare boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode was investigated. Cytochrome c was then electrochemically immobilsed onto the functionalized BDD electrode by cyclic voltammetry. Oxidation and reduction reaction mechanism of each flavonoid was studied. There was one oxidation and reduction peaks for quercitin and catechin respectively, and two oxidation and two reduction peaks for rutin. The cytochrome c modified BDD electrode showed good sensitivity for all three flavonoids and low detection limits i.e. 0.42 to 11.24 M as evaluated at oxidation and reduction peaks, respectively.</p>

The removal of pesticides from water by advanced oxidation processes (AOPs)

Zazou, Hicham 03 July 2015 (has links)
Conventional treatments applied to waste water containing organic pollutants are based on biological treatments méthods or physical mass transfer methods (decantation, filtration, adsorption of the pollutants on activated carbon), chemical oxidation with ozone, chlorine, etc. However, these methods remain ineffective for the treatment of water polluted by persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Advanced oxidation processes are implemented to degrade and mineralize these pollutants. This PhD thesis work aims to establish an experimental protocol to degrade and mineralize pesticides, chemicals widely used in agriculture in Morocco, such as monochlorobenzene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy-acetic acid , and imazalil using the electro-Fenton and anodic oxidation processes with DD Pt or DSA anodes. Thus, the rate of mineralization was 92%, 95%, 92% and 97% for the monochloro-benzene, the 1,2-dichlorobenzene, the 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid , and the imazalil, respectively, after 4 h treatment by electro-Fenton process. These results confirm the effectiveness of electrochemical advanced oxidation processes for treating water polluted by pesticides

Élaboration de nouveaux matériaux d’électrodes modifiées pour application biocapteurs / Development of modified electrode materials for biosensor applications

Chrouda, Amani 27 August 2015 (has links)
The objective of the research work was to the development of modified electrode materials for biosensor application. The work was devided into three parts: electrografting of diazonium salt for immunosensor application, electroadressing of antibodies and electrodeposition of PEG spacer for aptasensor application. In the first part of this work, the modification of gold surfaces with nitrobenzene diazonium cation was investigated in order to develop an immunosensors for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus. A detection limit of 10 CFU/mL has been obtained. The second part was focused on the electrically addressable deposition of diazonium functionalized antibodies on boron-doped diamond (BDD) microcells for the detection of OTA. A detection limit of 0.007ng/mL has been obtained and the immunosensor was tested on real samples. Finally, we developed an amperometric aptasensor based on electrochemical grafting of a PEG-COOH spacer on a BDD microcell for the detection of OTA biotoxin. A detection limit of 0.01 ng/L has been obtained and application to a real sample (rice) has been demonstrated. The amperometric and impedimetric techniques used in this work lead to promising results in terms of sensitivity, specificity and reproductibility

Body Dysmorphic Disorder: Differences in Age and Compulsive Online Behavior in a Swedish Sample / Dysmorfofobi: Skillnader i ålder och tvångsmässigt beteende online i ett svenskt urval

Ersson, Sofia, Holvik, Rebecca January 2020 (has links)
Compulsive repetitive behaviors and mental acts due to concerns about your appearance, are symptoms of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). Previous research suggests that the compulsive behaviors found in people with BDD occur in online and offline settings (e.g., extensive editing of selfies intended for publication online and excessive mirror gazing offline). Also, previous research shows that BDD and social media use vary with age. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine age as a moderator in the relationship between compulsive behaviors online and the risk behaviors of BDD offline, through a cross-sectional design. The inclusion criteria for the study were being a minimum of 16 years old, a Swedish citizen and a user of social media. The data were collected through a survey, consisting of questions intended to screen for compulsive behaviors online in relation to appearance concerns, risk behaviors of BDD offline and the prevalence of BDD. The results showed that younger participants engaged in more compulsive behaviors online and risk behaviors of BDD. The group in high risk of BDD also engaged more in both behaviors, than participants in low risk of BDD. In addition, the results showed that age did act as a moderator in the relationship between compulsive behaviors online and risk behaviors of BDD. Age showed to especially affect the relationship between the number of compulsive behaviors online and risk behaviors of BDD in older participants.

Dispelling inertia towards behavior-driven development : An assessment tool for development practice readiness

Petäjävaara, Agnes January 2019 (has links)
Behavior-driven development (BDD) is a development practice focusing on behaviors and requirements from users and stakeholders. It is designed to develop behaviors which contribute directly to system outcomes. BDD encourages multiple stakeholders to collaborate by minimizing communication gaps and create a shared understanding of the project between technical and non-technical speakers. As a result, the development process becomes faster and the cost lower. Although BDD has many benefits, there are teams who feel inertia towards using it as their main development practice. This thesis work took place at a company with a strong agile foundation. It had the goal to investigate reasons why teams feel inertia against BDD, and thus contribute to BDD research and assist the company. The assumption that positive motivation would help in dispelling inertia was the idea behind this thesis work, and that a stronger motivation for a practice can be achieved by assessing a team’s suitability for it. To reach the goal of the thesis a qualitative research methodology was used, with a focus on obtaining a better understanding of opinions and behaviors that exist, with rounds of interviews and forms as the main method of data collection. Interviews were also consistently used throughout the thesis work to validate that it followed the right track. The inertia which teams at the company have experienced was clustered into different dimensions. These dimensions were used to develop a self-assessment tool intended to help people starting a project to assess how well BDD might fit their context. It allows people to assess their inertia in the different dimensions identified, and as well as attempting to give an overall guide to readiness, also giving some recommendations where gaps could be identified. The deliverable of the thesis work is the tool for managing inertia against BDD. It was developed in a spreadsheet-format for quick development and easy access for multiple users. However, it is important to highlight that this tool focuses on agile autonomous teams. The tool is not about forcing the development practice on someone but rather acts as an aid in giving insight into how well BDD could work for a specific project and team. Finally, to grasp the validity of the tool teams who had previous success developing projects using BDD at the company were able to try it out to see how well it reflected their project reality. The tool also got tested on teams who felt strong inertia towards BDD, to verify whether it helped them manage it or not.

Svendsen, Emeli, Valman, Sandra January 2015 (has links)
Body Dysmorphic Disorder, BDD, is a psychiatric diagnosis that is characterized by self- perceived ugliness. The knowledge about BDD is low and people experience that they have the diagnosis, but haven’t been diagnosed with BDD due to the lack of knowledge among professionals. Previous research has mostly consisted of quantitative studies regarding the prevalence of BDD. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze how people, who feel that they have BDD, describe living with it in their everyday life. The study is based on four narrative interviews, and the analysis of the results is based on a narrative approach. The results show that many areas in life are negatively affected by BDD, such as, school or work, relationship with others and quality of life. There is also a lack of knowledge regarding BDD among professionals which affects the treatment of people with BDD. In conclusion, BDD is a complex diagnosis to live with and many aspects in life are limited because of the diagnosis. Therefor the knowledge of BDD must increase in order for people to be able to get the right treatment.

Programinės įrangos su kintamybėmis konfigūravimas / Configuration of software with variabilities

Pačebutaitė, Danutė 09 July 2011 (has links)
Software Systems family is a group of software systems that have great commonality among the systems, but differ from each other in some pre-known differences, which are modeled by variabilities. This distinction is important to families in terms of re-use of software systems by exploiting the similarities between software systems. However, the larger family of software systems, the more there are differences between family members, this means, managing variabilities becomes very important issue. In this case, configuration is a process of constructing new software systems from available features (commonalities and variabilities). This paper describes the configuration method based on binary decision diagrams (BDD). First, the software is modeled according to the Czarnecki- Eisenecker feature model with cardinalities, subsequently in the described way it is transformed into reduced ordered binary decision diagram (ROBDD). This paper demonstrates effective configuration of modeled software with the use of ROBDD. In addition, the prototype of the configuration tool is presented.

Ratel, Christophe 08 July 1992 (has links) (PDF)
