Sound and Play / Sound and Play

Jonsson, Lisa January 2010 (has links)
Abstract The project "Sound and Play" have been implemented in collaboration with the toy company BRIO in Malmo. The purpose of the project was to examine whether and how BRIO in the future could develop toys around sound for Toddlers. The problem formulations that would be answered after completion of the project was "How could BRIO broaden its product range with the help of audio toys?", "How can you combine toys and sounds in an interesting way for children?", "How do you create a toy with sound that is fun for the child, but not annoying for parents?". Currently BRIO only has two toys with sound in this age group. The expression of the toy was going to be a mix of classic and cool and the overall feeling of the toy was going to be explorative and arouse curiosity in the child. This feeling would be communicated through simplicity and joy. The project began with an extensive research, including a visit to one of the world's largest toy fair in Nürnberg, Germany, and a comprehensive survey of parents' attitude to sound toys. Based on the first sketching phase three concepts where chosen; Module Cars, Beat Box and Record Player. Module Cars was a concept where you could replace parts of the car and in that way get different sounds. Beat Box was a box of three cylindrical blocks which consisted of various surfaces and materials. While they were spinning in the box they would hit different materials and in that way create different sound and rhythms. The construction of the idea meant that over a thousand different sounds and rhythms could be created. Record Player was a similar concept in which the child could change the discs and in that way create different rhythms and sounds. Together with the product development department, I decided to keep working with the Modul Car concept. Within this concept, I chose to work on two different tracks, different fronts and figures. By changing the front of the car it would get a new sound or by changing the driver in the car it would also get a new sound. After several weeks of shaping digital 3D models and many ideas and thoughts later I finally reached a solution that was built as a prototype. The result is a vehicle where the front can be replaced by two other fronts. Depending on which, the system will give you different sounds. This is because each front has a plastic flap placed underneath that hits a piece of plastic stuck to the wheel axle. Nine children play tested the toy and their parents were responding to questions about the outcome. The play tests went well and it turned out to be a suitable toy from one year and up to about five years. The play takes various forms in different ages which is good since this means that the toy may last longer. The response among the parents was also very positive. I am very pleased with the outcome and hope to see it in store shelves one day and also that it becomes played with in homes.

Phan, Helen January 2012 (has links)

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Zootecnia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2012. / ABSTRACT The effects of EB (electrolyte balance) in diets for growing swine were evaluated. The experiment was conducted in Couto Magalh?es de Minas, MG, during the months of February and March 2011. Were used 36 commercial hybrid swine, 18 males castrated and 18 females in the growth phase, with initial body weight 23.48 ? 1.68 kg, distributed in a completely randomized experimental design with five treatments and three replications, and the experimental unit composed of two animals (one male and one female), in the box. The animals were fed diets in an experiment and water ad libitum until they reach the average weight of 55.98 ? 4.05 kg. The environmental conditions were evaluated, characterizing the thermal environment of the installation. The animals received five rations, as follows: 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 mEq/kg. For correction of EB, inclusions were used sodium bicarbonate and either calcium chloride to replace the washed sand. During the experimental period, the variables analyzed were daily feed intake (DFI), daily gain (DG), feed conversion (FC), superficial and rectal temperature, respiratory frequency and level of electrolytes in the blood. The average temperature was 25.89 ? 1.53 ?C with relative humidity of the air 78.5 ? 11.15 %, black globe temperature of 26.1 ? 2.64 ?C and BGT estimated at 75.0 ? 2.69, conditions considered as moderated thermal discomfort. The EB didn?t influence on performance parameters (DFI, DG, FC) for growing swine, however, led to changes in the stools of growing swine to diarrhea and loose stools. The EB didn?t influence on respiratory frequency and others physiological parameters. There wasn?t statistical difference for levels of electrolytes in the blood of animals. The correction of EB ration isn?t necessary, the performance isn?t changed in the range 100 to 300 mEq/kg, range of the feed practical and with low levels of crude protein.

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? For this, the study was divided into two moments. First, 17 sedentary subjects underwent a session of high intensity interval exercise (HIIE), on a cycle ergometer, consisting of 8 stimuli, at 90% of maximum power, with intervals of active recovery of 75 seconds, at 30 watts. Before and immediately after exercise, blood samples were collected to evalute plasma thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) concentration and plasma total antioxidant capacity; and TBARS concentration and activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), at erythrocyte lysate. Acutely, HIIE did not alter plasma TBARS concentration, although plasma total antioxidant capacity was significantly lower (p=0,05) immediately after exercise. In erythrocytes, TBARS concentration was significantly lower (p=0,03), while SOD activity was significantly higher (p=0,04) immediately after exercise. In the second moment, 9 individuals, who participated in HIIE, underwent a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program, 3 times a week, during 4 weeks (12 training sessions). Redox state parameters were evaluated before and at the end of training. HIIT increased (p=0,05) plasma total antioxidant capacity and, in erythrocytes, TBARS concentration was lower (p=0,03) and catalase activity was higher (p=0,04) after training. Changes on blood redox state promoted by HIIT can be considered an additional beneficial response to this type of training, and HIIT may have a therapeutic role in clinical conditions associated with redox imbalance.

Oil is a complex mixture having predominantly paraffinic hydrocarbons, naphthenic and aromatic (Freitas and Costa, 1969) and other constituents (sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen) that normally occur in the form of organic compounds. The CO2, for example, be present in over 25% of the oil extracted from the pre-salt layer of the Campos and Santos basins. Estimates suggest that only in two areas with defined reserves - the Tupi and Iara, where there is an accumulation of up to 12 billion barrels of oil and gas - there are 3.1 billion tons of CO2, one of the gases that contribute to warming. Because of this large amount of contaminants (CO2, N, S, etc.) present in the mixture of hydrocarbons extracted these basins, it must find new ways of separation of this contaminant. For such development of new practices is important a constant study of the thermodynamic equilibrium between oil constituents and their contaminants. Thus the goal is to build a device that generates enough conditions to check phase behavior of various oil industry's interest systems with their most common contaminants, eg CO2 at high pressure using prior knowledge of Guerra-Neto, 2010, which must operate at temperatures and pressures up to 300 bar and temperatures up to 100 degrees Celsius. Some systems of interest are: CO2 and alcanoaminas (monoetanolamine, dietanolamine, trietanolamine). Lauryl alcohol ethoxylate and water and CO2 and alkanes with mild contamination of water.
