Evaluation of length aware Bloom filter for longest prefix matching using Waldvogels binary search on lengths

Brücher, Olof January 2022 (has links)
Longest prefix matching is a well-studied problem in the context of IP-packet forwarding, an area of computational specialization where high performance with low memory impact is of the essence. Numerous specialized data structures exist for longest prefix matching in this setting, among them is Waldvogels binary search on lengths, WBSL for short. This data structure has previously been augmented with a Bloom filter to improve its performance, resulting in a new data structure: WBSL-BF. This study concerns the potential performance improvement of adding length-awareness to WBSL-BF. Performance of the augmented data structure is evaluated by recording the number of hash table accesses performed to carry out a series of queries, along with false positive rates for the Bloom filters. A test program is created to run multiple series of queries with different test configurations. The data structure is evaluated using two datasets containing prefixes from routing information base snapshots from real route collectors. The two datasets contain roughly 80000 and 900000 prefixes respectively. The results indicate that on the given datasets, augmenting the Bloom filter with length-awareness can reduce the number of hash table accesses when performing longest prefix matching by up to 44% in a best case scenario without increasing memory usage. However, the performance gain is limited in other scenarios, since the optimally configured standard Bloom filter leaves little to improve upon when applied to Waldvogels binary search on lengths.

Meyer-Ross, Kerstin Kathy 03 May 2021 (has links)

Efficient extreme classification / Classification extreme a faible complexité

Cisse, Mouhamadou Moustapha 25 July 2014 (has links)
We propose in this thesis new methods to tackle classification problems with a large number of labes also called extreme classification. The proposed approaches aim at reducing the inference conplexity in comparison with the classical methods such as one-versus-rest in order to make learning machines usable in a real life scenario. We propose two types of methods respectively for single label and multilable classification. The first proposed approach uses existing hierarchical information among the categories in order to learn low dimensional binary representation of the categories. The second type of approaches, dedicated to multilabel problems, adapts the framework of Bloom Filters to represent subsets of labels with sparse low dimensional binary vectors. In both approaches, binary classifiers are learned to predict the new low dimensional representation of the categories and several algorithms are also proposed to recover the set of relevant labels. Large scale experiments validate the methods.

NeMeSys - A Showcase of Data Oriented Near Memory Graph Processing

Krause, Alexander, Kissinger, Thomas, Habich, Dirk, Lehner, Wolfgang 15 September 2022 (has links)
NeMeSys is a NUMA-aware graph pattern processing engine, which uses the Near Memory Processing paradigm to allow for high scalability. With modern server systems incorporating an increasing amount of main memory, we can store graphs and compute analytical graph algorithms like graph pattern matching completely in-memory. Our system blends state-of-the-art approaches from the transactional database world together with graph processing principles. We demonstrate, that graph pattern processing - standalone and workloads - can be controlled by leveraging different partitioning strategies, applying Bloom filter based messaging optimization and, given performance constraints, can save energy by applying frequency scaling of CPU cores.

Design: modos de [des]uso. Aproximações contemporâneas entre arte e design / Design: ways to [mis] use. Contemporary relationships between art and design

Marilia Solfa 09 February 2017 (has links)
This thesis proposes a study on the renewed interest of contemporary art in rescuing and re-shaping the modern discussion regarding the relationship between art and design. This approach differs from the previous modernist proposal, as it responds to the singular cultural, social and economic context in which it is developed. Therefore, our aim is to characterize and understand both this new context and the main issues concerning this rapprochement between art and design by analysing the production of four important artists in the contemporary scene: Vito Acconci (1940), Barbara Bloom (1951) Andrea Zittel (1965) and Ana Maria Tavares (1958). This research addresses the tactics of artistic intervention within the design discourse field which, in the society governed by advanced capitalism, constitutes one of the main systems of production and consumption of images, signs, objects, environments and individual and collective identities. By going through a process of expansion and diffusion, spreading and infiltrating into various spheres of everyday life, the field of design becomes a starting point for the production of artists who, through disruptive action tactics, seek opportunities, even if temporary, to intervene in a world increasingly designed and planned to the very last detail

Barbárie virtual: simulacro e espetacularização da notícia em Israel no romance Partes Humanas, de Orly Castel-Bloom / Virtual barbarism: simulacrum and spectacle of the news media in Israel, in Orly Castel-Blooms romance Human Parts

Feder, Clarissa 08 April 2013 (has links)
This research project aims to examine the role of the media in the book Human Parts, of the Israeli Orly Castel-Bloom. The writer describes Israel in an apocalyptic scenary, in which each person thinks only of themselves. The people live in a chaotic atmosphere, fighting for their survival. The existential panic and the chronic dissatisfaction are present in different characters who, by extension, influence and are influenced by the fragmented, murky and tragic context, in which they live. In this post-Zionist book, the media has a primordial role, not only is it a mirror of the society, but it is also influenced by what is heard and seen in it. Poverty, violence, war, suffering: everything is present in their lives and in the media as if it were in a movie. In this way, the media contributes to sensationalize human life.

This activity has been applied to a group of 10 students in the third year High School in a private school in Sao Paulo City. While analyzing the WebQuest since its construction and application up to the fi nal results obtained, I have looked for bringing evidences of if such kind of activity, which basically utilizes internet resources, is able to bring any kind of benefit in relation to the traditional classes that make use of books and books of key facts. Some learning aims have been defined starting from the Bloom Taxonomy (1972) and, when reached, have raised a thought of higher level, according to Dodge (1995). I verified that the students have constructed their mathematical knowledge as I noticed that they have reached the level of visualization geometrical comprehension, as defined by Van Hiele (1986) in his classification. I have used, as a way of validating the results obtained during the construction and application phases, a confrontation between the evidences observed through the registrations of such phases and the theoretic-methodological recommendations that have been utilized, which were mainly based in the own principles of the WebQuest activity and in some principles of the teaching experiment methodology, according to Cobb, P. et all (2003). It was possible to conclude that the students` mathematical knowledge of the Spatial Geometry basic notions was, in great part, consolidated throughout the use of the WebQuest activity. A new purpose of a WebQuest activity has been elaborated for application in an opportune moment / Este trabalho de pesquisa tem como objetivo apresentar minha experiência ao construir e aplicar uma atividade WebQuest analisando as dificuldades e possibilidades desta forma de ensinar.

Padronização do método de dosimetria Fricke gel e avaliação tridimensional de dose empregando a técnica de imageamento por ressonância magnética / STANDARDIZATION OF THE FRICKE GEL DOSIMETRY METHOD AND TRIDIMENSIONAL DOSE EVALUATION USING THE MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING TECHNIQUE

Cavinato, Christianne Cobello 27 May 2009 (has links)
This study standardized the method for obtaining the Fricke gel solution developed at IPEN. The results for different gel qualities used in the preparation of solutions and the influence of the gelatin concentration in the response of dosimetric solutions were compared. Type tests such as: dose response dependence, minimum and maximum detection limits, response reproducibility, among others, were carried out using different radiation types and the Optical Absorption (OA) spectrophotometry and Magnetic Resonance (MR) techniques. The useful dose ranges for Co 60 gamma radiation and 6 MeV photons are 0,4 to 30,0 Gy and 0,5 to 100,0 Gy , using OA and MR techniques, respectively. A study of ferric ions diffusion in solution was performed to determine the optimum time interval between irradiation and samples evaluation; until 2,5 hours after irradiation to obtain sharp MR images. A spherical simulator consisting of Fricke gel solution prepared with 5% by weight 270 Bloom gelatine (national quality) was developed to be used to three-dimensional dose assessment using the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technique. The Fricke gel solution prepared with 270 Bloom gelatine, that, in addition to low cost, can be easily acquired on the national market, presents satisfactory results on the ease of handling, sensitivity, response reproducibility and consistency. The results confirm their applicability in the threedimensional dosimetry using MRI technique.
