Booking tickets online : How should ticket booking systems be designed to satisfy the customer?Freedman, Simon January 2014 (has links)
In today's society we are used to regularly visit the sport arena to cheer for our favorite team, we go to the cinema to enjoy a good movie or maybe to the theatre to experience a grand performance. It has become far more common in the last years to buy tickets to these kinds of events online. To make sure that the customer will keep on buying their tickets from the online booking companies the booking experience itself has to be hassle-free and easy to understand. The customer will most likely, if possible, avoid the website if the booking itself is experienced as having problems and insecurities. The purpose of this study is to determine some of the most fundamental designs and functions of online booking websites today as perceived by the general public. This study will also examine some of the existing online booking websites. The empirical methods used in this study was of both quantitative and a qualitative nature to ensure that the data collected would be suited to secure a substantial analysis. The qualitative method consisted of an observation of the earlier mentioned online booking websites. These already existing functions and designs were then used to create a checklist that was used to see which websites had which designs. The quantitative method was an online survey created to collect both the public's most wanted features, their opinion of these and how an online booking could be optimized. This study presents the different functions and designs that the respondents prefers while making an online booking. It also shows the existing functions and designs amongst booking sites today. These sites are then also evaluated according to the respondents answers to see which online booking site that is preferred. The results in this study shows that the costumers want the booking system to show the chosen event to be visible during the course of the booking, they want to be able chose their exact seats and they want to the booking to be made in as few pages and klick's as possible.

Förbättrad intern bygglogistik : effektivisering av informationsflöde med digital kalender / Improved internal construction logistics : streamlining information flow with a digital calendarEkström Larsson, Oskar, Ekman, Philip January 2023 (has links)
Background – Construction logistics involves planning and managing of material, equipment and personnel on a construction site. Waste or non-value-added work on the construction site accounts for 30-35% of the costs and can be reduced through efficient material handling. Purpose – The goal was to investigate which delivery activities on a construction site are critical to the schedule and whether Microsoft Bookings is a valid tool to streamlining information flow. Method – The research questions has been answered using qualitative method in a case study and has been complemented by a literature study of theories and previous research in the field. Theory – The theoretical framework is based on digital calendar, communication, handling of materials and Lean Construction. This framework constitutes a reason to use digital tools or describes the positive effects that accompany an implementation. Empirical findings – The results of interviews emphasize the importance of planning, involvement, and clarity through visualization for effective delivery management on the construction site. Discussion & Conclusion – A automated booking tool for delivery is in demand and needed as an implementation leads to a reduction of the number of elements that is required for coordinating material deliveries by coordinate relevant information. The final recommendation is to implement Microsoft Bookings as the tool fulfill four out of six identified needs and characteristics. This does not exclude other types of digital calendars to be evaluated, as the goal is to fulfill all the identified needs and characteristics.

New Zealand travel agents in the internet era: impacts, responses, and relationshipsGarkavenko, Vladimir Unknown Date (has links)
The impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is a significant issue in today's tourism industry. The development of the internet has made information easily accessible to consumers, and has therefore established a direct link between consumers and suppliers. As a result, traditional travel distribution channels are changing rapidly. A major feature of this change is "disintermediation", with principals such as airlines, hotels and rental car chains bypassing intermediaries and sell directly to consumers. Travel agents (TAs) are considered to be particularly vulnerable to this process. ICTs have the potential to replace their core competencies, which include transaction processing (ticketing and settlement) and information provision (raw product information provided by suppliers). This thesis focuses on the impact of ICTs on the TA sector, and specifically on the New Zealand TA case. A theoretical approach based on regulation theory combined with a mixed method approach was used to investigate the main issues in New Zealand. The research included a case study to identify the principal issues and trends in the TA sector, in-depth interviews with TAs and industry specialists to refine the main issues and allow the formulation of some theoretical assumptions, in-depth interviews with consumers regarding the role of TAs in the internet era and the quality of service they provide, and a fully-structured, national on-line survey of TAs to verify the assumptions made in the earlier interviews and test the applicability of the post-Fordism model for the New Zealand TA sector.Based on the findings, it is argued that disintermediation is particularly pronounced in the relationship between airlines and travel agents. To minimise the risk of disintermediation and improve business performance, TAs need to reposition themselves and review their core strategies to compete efficiently in the changing business environment. The thesis reveals that consumers perceive TAs as mainly "transaction facilitators". Nevertheless the thesis show that process of "reintermediation" is a reality for some New Zealand TAs.An application of regulation theory to the New Zealand TA case reveals that in its traditional form, the regulation theory cannot explain the complexities found in the modern TA environment. The thesis reveals several distinct modes in TA perceptions of their business environment and their survival strategies, which indicates a heterogeneous, clustered population. A "formula for success" is developed for TAs in New Zealand. In this respect, TAs that perceive ICT as a strategic tool and are orientated towards consumers appear to have a business advantage.

The Effect Of Internet Booking On The Central Florida Lodging Market OSmith, Scott 01 January 2004 (has links)
This study reviews the effect of Internet bookings on the Central Florida lodging market over the past five years. As the number of lodging accommodations booked directly by the consumer over the Internet continues to increase, the ramifications brought about by this emerging distribution channel have not been fully investigated or interpreted. This study observes how Internet-enabled distribution channel bookings have trended in occupancy and average daily rate in the Central Florida lodging market in the past five years. Specifically the author segmented the survey respondents into the lodging product service categories of budget, moderate, upscale and luxury to analyze if there were any observable trends between the categories over the past five years. The author also segmented the respondents into the lodging geographic sub-categories of airport, downtown, suburban and resort/attractions area to determine if there were any observable trends between the sub-classifications over the past five years. Utilizing a descriptive approach, the author determined that each product service category and lodging sub-classification displayed continuous growth in Internet-enabled distribution channel bookings over the five-year period of 1999-2003. The author also observed that each product service category continuously represented a discounted Internet distribution channel rate over the five-year period of 1999-2003. This analysis suggests that lodging properties in the Central Florida market are discounting their Internet-enabled distribution channel rates in comparison to the property's overall average rate. At the same time, these properties appear to be increasing their Internet-enabled distribution channel bookings as a percentage of overall bookings.

Framställning av en teoretisk bokningsmodell för tids- och kostnadseffektivisering av tomvagnstransporter hos ScandFibre Logistics AB / The development of a theoretical bookings model to increase time- and cost-efficiency of empty wagon transports at ScandFibre Logistics ABÖunapuu, Anton January 2022 (has links)
ScandFibre Logistics AB (SFL) is a logistics company operating in the railway industry and is a part of BillerudKorsnäs. SFL offers logistic solutions for railway transport of products from BillerudKorsnäs’, as well as a few other external customers’, different paper mills to roughly 50 different terminals in Europe. In conjunction with SFL:s own interest of developing the efficiency of their own operations and handling of wagon transports, this master’s thesis aims to improve knowledge and investigate how to streamline the transport of empty wagons from Swedish terminals back to the paper mills, in regards to transport and rental costs. Information have been gathered through interviews with several employees, through participating observations, and with the extraction of raw data from SFL’s database. With a descriptive method the overall operation at SFL could be outlined, serving as the base for a model development phase. This phase resulted in this thesis’ proposed bookings model for empty wagon transports. The model acquires a theoretical streamline way of booking empty wagon transports in such a manner that wagons arrive at the paper mills according to the JIT-principle. The model succeeds in doing this by generating booking proposals using mathematical logic and time-sensitive booking criteria, with the focus being transports of short distances; in theory also meaning a time efficient use of each wagon. As the model is theoretically constructed and relies on several generalizing assumptions, its booking proposals should always be evaluated from a perspective of practicality by executive booking personnel.

Despite having a high rate of patients, public and private health centers in Peru present minimal digitization due to the low investment in systems or applications that help to organize and update the information of patients who wish to receive medical care. As a consequence, there is a poor medical appointment reservation process that lacks quality and long times for the care of people. In this context, there are several case studies on standardized applications and systems that have managed to optimize and reduce times in the reservation process and outpatient medical care. Therefore, the objective of this article is to explain our research that develops a mobile application with geolocation that allows the search for different polyclinics and reservation of outpatient medical appointments; and a web application for polyclinics that do not have an online appointment reservation system. The technological solution in general was validated both by seven polyclinics and by real patients. As a result of this validation, it was obtained that once the technological solution was implemented, there would be an improvement and satisfaction of 40% in the process of the reservation system for outpatient medical consultations in polyclinics and 35% in patients. / Trabajo de investigación

When Bilevel Optimization Meets Gas Networks: Feasibility of Bookings in the European Entry-Exit Gas Market: Computational Complexity Results and Bilevel Optimization ApproachesPlein, Fränk 21 June 2021 (has links) (PDF)
Transport and trade of gas are decoupled after the liberalization of the European gas markets, which are now organized as so-called entry-exit systems. At the core of this market system are bookings and nominations, two special capacity-right contracts that grant traders access to the gas network. The latter is operated by a separate entity, known as the transmission system operator (TSO), who is in charge of the transport of gas from entry to exit nodes. In the mid to long term, traders sign a booking contract with the TSO to obtain injection and withdrawal capacities at entry and exit nodes, respectively. On a day-ahead basis, they then nominate within these booked capacities a balanced load flow of the planned amounts of gas to be injected into and withdrawn from the network the next day. The key property is that by signing a booking contract, the TSO is obliged to guarantee transportability for all balanced load flows in compliance with the booked capacities. To assess the feasibility of a booking, it is therefore necessary to check the feasibility of infinitely many nominations. As a result, deciding if a booking is feasible is a challenging mathematical problem, which we investigate in this dissertation. Our results range from passive networks, consisting of pipes only, to active networks, containing controllable elements to influence gas flows. Since the study of the latter naturally leads to a bilevel framework, we first consider some more general properties of bilevel optimization. For the case of linear bilevel optimization, we consider the hardness of validating the correctness of big-Ms often used in solving these problems via a single-level reformulation. We also derive a family of valid inequalities to be used in a bilevel-tailored branch-and-cut algorithm as a big-M-free alternative. We then turn to the study of feasible bookings. First, we present our results on passive networks, for which bilevel approaches are not required. A characterization of feasible bookings on passive networks is derived in terms of a finite set of nominations. While computing these nominations is a difficult task in general, we present polynomial complexity results for the special cases of tree-shaped or single-cycle passive networks. Finally, we consider networks with linearly modeled active elements. After obtaining a bilevel optimization model that allows us to determine the feasibility of a booking in this case, we derive various single-level reformulations to solve the problem. In addition, we obtain novel characterizations of feasible bookings on active networks, which generalize our characterization in the passive case. The performance of these various approaches is compared in a case study on two networks from the literature, one of which is a simplified version of the Greek gas network.

A Machine Learning Estimation of the Occupancy of Padel Facilities in Sweden : An application of Random Forest algorithm on a padel booking dataset / Uppskattning av svenska padelanläggningars beläggningsgrad genom maskininlärningJohansson, Michael, Gonzálvez Läth, Nadia January 2022 (has links)
Padel is one of the fastest growing sports in Sweden. Its popularity rose significantly during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, as many other types of sport facilities closed, and people had more flexible work schedules due to remote work. This paper is an analysis on the monthly occupancy of indoor padel facilities in Sweden between January 2018 and April 2022. It aims to answer to what degree a machine learning algorithm can predict the occupancy for a given padel facility and which key features have the largest impact on the occupancy. With these findings, it is possible to estimate the revenue for a given padel facility and therefore be used to identify which type of padel facilities have the biggest opportunity to succeed from an economical perspective. This article reviews the literature regarding different methods of machine learning, in this case, applied to booking systems and occupancy estimations. The reviewed literature also presents the most common evaluation metrics used for comparing different machine learning models. This study analyses the relationship between the occupancy level of a given padel facility and 12 input features, related to the padel facility in question, with a random forest regression model. This work results in a model that achieved a R2 score of 49% and a mean absolute error of 11%. The input features ranked according to the largest impact on the model’s estimation are (with the mean of all absolute SHAP values written in parentheses): Year (7.71), Month (5.23), Average Income in municipality (4.13), Driving Time from municipality Centre (2.35), Population of municipality (1.97), Padel Slots in municipality (1.27), Padel Slots in facility (1.27), Average Court Price (1.12), Tennis Slots in municipality (0.73), Badminton Slots in municipality (0.55), Squash Slots in municipality (0.44) and Golf Slots in municipality (0.26). Padel facilities had the highest average occupancy in 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic is likely a significant contributor to this, due to the shutdown of offices and many types of training venues. Therefore, Year has the largest impact on the model’s estimation. Occupancy of indoor facilities follows a seasonal trend, where it tends to be highest in December and January and lowest in June and July. This trend can partly be explained by a larger demand for indoor sport activities during winter and increased competition from outside padel facilities and other activities during summer. Because of this, Month had the second largest impact on the model’s estimation. Padelanläggningar hade högsta genomsnittliga beläggningsgraden under 2020.
