Faut-il tromper l'ennui ? L'ennui : du divertissement à la pathologie. / Must we deceive boredom ? Boredom : From entertainment to pathology

Bourrely, Arielle 10 December 2016 (has links)
Notre étude s'attache à comprendre l'enjeu d'un ennui fondamental, et à travers lui, la condition humaine avec ses contradictions et ses questions / The aim of that work is to understand the boredom phenomenon. The boredom is here understood as an indivisible aspect of the human condition. A human being is a person who get bored because he has a conscience, and that conscience place himself in a particular relation with the time. But we see that from the modern age in the occident that human being strives through all its activities to escape boredom. Cheating boredom is cheating his condition, it is, as a human being, to cheat to yourself. The question is to understand how this is possible. Starting from the entertainment as a general way to run rings around boredom, we will get to the possibility of not cheating boredom, in doing so we will go through a facet of the human pathology through the melancholic affliction. Boredom shall be cheated and here comes a complication : how a conscious human being can cheat himself? But boredom that would not be overcame would leads man to a pathological condition. Why then shall human being run rings around boredom? Our work is divided into three chapters. First part will consider the reason why human being cheat boredom. The next step is to understand how he can do so. Finally we will consider opportunities for not cheating boredom. Our study aims to understand the concern of a fundamental boredom, and through hit the human condition with its contradictions and questions.

Job Scheduling Considering Both Mental Fatigue and Boredom

Jahandideh, Sina January 2012 (has links)
Numerous aspects of job scheduling in manufacturing systems have been the focus of several studies in the past decades. However, human factors in manufacturing systems such as workers’ mental conditions are still neglected issues and have not received adequate attentions. Job boredom and mental fatigue are both aspects of workers’ mental condition. They affect work performances by increasing sick leave duration and decreasing work productivity. On the other hand, job rotation could be an alternative strategy to cope with such human issues at work. The benefits of job rotation for both employees and firms have been widely recognized in the literature. Although some studies found job rotation as a means to reduce workers' physical work-related traumas, they did not consider the effect of variable mental conditions on workers. Despite the proven importance of boredom and mental fatigue at the workplace, they have not been a combined precise objective of any job rotation problem in current literature. The study of mental conditions proposed in this paper attempts to extend the previous works by addressing new methods and developing a feasible solution to increase manufacturing productivity. A new job scheduling program has been designed specifically which combines a new job rotation model and a job assignment method.

Resisting Mediatization and Watching ‘Boredom’: An Empirical Study of Users of Uninformative Live-streaming in China

Zhiying, Mo January 2020 (has links)
Little is known about ‘uninformative live-streaming’, a new genre of online streaming media that has become a new trend in China. In these real-time streams, streamers would not interact and communicate with viewers and not perform in front of cameras. The content is about uninterrupted trivial everyday activities, such as sleeping and studying for several hours. This thesis aims to obtain a comprehensive understanding of this media and to explore what motivates users to continuously watch it. This research employed qualitative methods of online observation and semi-structured in-depth interviews to collect empirical data, through the cases of study-stream and sleep-stream. The concept of media life by Mark Deuze provides a general theoretical context of mediatized lifeworld. Based on Uses and Gratifications Theory and Compensatory Internet Use Theory, I described and explained the prominent features of uninformative live-streaming and examined the user motivation for it. The research results show that this authentic, less-interactive, and non-narrative live-streaming creates an undisturbed media environment, in which users can escape media distraction and media overload. The prominent user motivations for uninformative live streams are self-discipline and self-management, and compensation for the real-life deficiency of ‘non-social companion’. These findings offer new insight into user motivation and help to expand and improve related theories.

Validación de la Escala de Aburrimiento Laboral en Auxiliares de Almacén de una empresa de Lima / Validation of the Labor Boredom Scale in Warehouse Auxiliary of a Lima company

Villarreal Noriega, Andrea 06 July 2020 (has links)
The present work of a psychometric nature, had as a determined objective the tests of validity and reliability of the Scale of Labor Boredom of Martínez Lugo and Rodríguez-Montalbán in warehouse assistants from 18 to 60 years (M = 27; SD = 7.70) of a Lima Metropolitan company. Within the sample, 79.7% of the people were men and 20.3% women, the sampling used was accidental non-probability. For the evidence of validity of the construct, the exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed, being the three-dimensional model the one with the best indices (S-Bχ2 = 63.47; df = 17; p = .000; S-Bχ2 / df = 3.73 ; CFI = .96; RMSEA = .052 [IC90% .039 .066]; and AIC = 117.471). Reliability due to internal consistency selected an adequate result (Dissociation: α = .825, ω = .839; Disinterest: α = .794, ω = .798; Prolonged perception of time: α = .753, ω = .758). Finally, a positive correlation was found between the Boreout Scale and the Job Boredom Scale (.75). It is concluded that the instrument has evidence of internal structure, construct validity, reliability and convergence with the Boreout Syndrome Scale. / Tesis

Return

Milivojevic, Monika January 2020 (has links)
In my essay, I reflected on my personal experience of moving to another city and all the physical, fiscal, and emotional changes that I went through. Through the text, I bounced between my thoughts of my old hometown and questions that one suburb lifestyle brings. In my painting practice, I used references from my visions and memories. In a way, every piece has a kind of resemblance to gambling and child upbringing. Every painting situation creates its own needs, and my work is engaged in staying attentive to this setting and how it changes and changes me. / Fine Art

Absence / Absence

Machač, Petr January 2014 (has links)
Video Absence reflects the findings of theoretical thesis named Boredom. The basic situation is described as lack of meaning, will, interest and feeling. Video is an attempt at poetic reflection of such situation, which is characterised as aimless searching without finding. The main tools are empty hands and different kinds of ground. The void has been overcome through the gesture related to problem of gift.

Pornography as a Leisure Behavior: An Investigation of Pornography Use and Leisure Boredom

Schenk, Casey B. 28 October 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of the study was to investigate pornography use in the context of leisure boredom. The sample consisted of N = 290 married couples (N = 580 individuals) from a large Northwestern city in the United States. When controlling for demographic variables, leisure boredom accounted for 2.2% of the variance within pornography use. Results suggest leisure boredom as a significant predictor of pornography use in married adults. A quadratic effect was also found, suggesting this relationship to be curvilinear. Findings are discussed around the use of leisure theory in pornography scholarship, in this case leisure boredom. Practical applications and suggestions for future research around sex and pornography addiction and therapeutic recreation are discussed.

Spatial complexity as a factor in the experience of time duration

Hammes, David Joseph January 1986 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to set forth a framework for the research of spatio-environmental factors on the experience of time duration. A literature survey considers the nature of the experience of time as well as the research that has been carried out on different factors in the experience of time duration. The survey also considers different categories of the spatio-environmental realm and how the realm is experienced through the sensory system. Particular attention is directed in the primary hypothesis toward the possible influence of the spatio-environmental factor of complexity, especially visual complexity. Exploratory testing of complexity used 24 college students performing duration estimates with the Production method viewing scale models of different complexity of wall surface and pattern. A secondary aspect of the study is to find support for the possible application of the primary hypothesis to the field of architecture. One undesirable experience of time duration, boredom, is studied in greater detail. Literature support is found for the relationship between boredom and decreased sense input, with decreased perceived visual complexity an example of decreased sense input. The susceptibility of the elderly to decreased sense input is considered, pointing to a possible increased susceptibility of the elderly to certain types of boredom. The scale model testing was modified with a glass screen to simulate decreased visual input, and the relationship between decreased visual input and duration estimation was analyzed for support of the secondary hypothesis. Tests for both hypotheses failed to provide confirmation but offer helpful guidance for future tests. / M. Arch.

The idea of teaching about religion: an inquiry into the problem of meaning in education in a secular age

Marce, Gordon 13 September 2016 (has links)
What started out as a neat little argument for teaching about religion (AR) in public schools has become a wide-ranging essay asking why so many big ideas for education keep falling flat. The new argument, unifying the added themes, is that modern education is caught in self-defeating patterns of rationalizing and over-articulating its own meaningfulness and legitimacy. Thus, self-deception distorts the fulfillment of intergenerational responsibilities. The original topic has become a first example that leads into and illuminates the problem. As an educational idea, AR claims to address secularization for our times. If upon further thought the idea seems hollow, it becomes necessary to look again at the real world of secularization. AR reflects the contemporary obsession with diversity and the compulsion to turn education into a parade of possibilities. What is taught is merely a rationalized stance. Indeed, given that the legitimacy of an education system depends on locating authority within a recognizable source of meaning, and given that modernity foregrounds incommensurable diversity, there is an apparent obviousness to grounding the educational enterprise in bare proceduralism and then topping it up by tenuously claiming association with various deeper sources. But George Grant’s characterization of the religious education of an earlier generation still holds: “a few thin platitudes.” In religious contexts, a distinction is sometimes made between religious instruction and formation within thick tradition and community. Even in a secular age, the young deserve some kind of thick formation. Yet that seems unimaginable, because contemporary common sense is caught in what Hubert Dreyfus calls theoretical holism. Secularization presents education not with an array but with a dilemma: To go on trying to manage meanings for the young, or to allow them to find meaning in strong practices? Facing this dilemma will entail facing the disenchantment generated in our deepest Western educative impulses. Rediscovering true sources of educational authority for our times will entail going back to the origins of modern schooling in the breakup of the apprenticeship model and rethinking an institutional solution that so fundamentally denies the way in which human beings become oriented to meaning through strong practices. / October 2016
