This may be because ever since its inception, cinema represented a new form of artistic expression with which to tell stories. This tendency acquires different expressions because of production contexts and the many ways its own language can be articulated. Other art forms, such as literature and theather, already have vast theoretical studie fields regarding their narrative processes, but in the film medium this study field is still little explored. Beyond the systematisation of its narrative codes, to study audio-visual narratology requires an added depth regarding its aesthetical possibilities. Is this research, we will analyze the film Cão sem dono, directed by Beto Brant and Renato Ciasca and adapted from the novel Até o dia em que o cão morreu, by Daniel Galera. Our interests lie in using the adaptative process as a starting point to elucidate questions regarding audio-visual narratives, specifically the concepts of focalization and character and their implications on filmic discourse. For that, we'll use theoretical references of authors dedicated to those categories of literary narrative, such as Gérard Genette, Antonio Candido and Alfredo Carvalho, and others who have proposed more consistent views on the particularities of audio-visual narratology, including François Jost and André Gaudreault, Marcel Martin and João Batista de Brito. It s also our intent to relate some characteristics of the film Cão sem dono with a tendency that s growing very strong in contemporary film. In order to achieve that goal we present a look into the writings of Christian Metz, Gilles Deleuze and André Bazin, regarding dramatic structure and the narrative procedures characteristic of modern film.

Brant Township

Dietz, Bruce H. 05 1900 (has links)
This study was undertaken to present the aerial differentiation within Brant Township. To express these differences most clearly the Township has been studied on a regional basis. This includes a breakdown of the study area into small subdivisions and the relationships of the unit areas to each other to discover the structural and functional basis of the larger area. It must be remembered that regional geography is sterile without the concepts and principles from systematic geography. Therefore systematic geography has been employed for an understanding of the aerial differences in each kind of phenomena and the relationships between them. Throughout the study, emphasis has been placed on the basic land utilization pattern of the Township. The land utilization maps are the result of systematic observation on a field to field basis. The functional map of Walkerton in the back cover illustrates the land use contained within the town. This map also constitutes the results of field work. The study is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is a general introduction to the location, size and the physical geography are discussed. Chapter three is a detailed account of the historical development of the Township. The present day agriculture is dealt within Chapter four while non-agricultural land use, which includes on urban study, is discussed in chapter five. Chapter six, containing the summary and conclusion, completes the thesis. / Thesis / Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-17T10:01:38Z (GMT). / Abstract: The central topic investigated in this thesis is related to the concept of time, which is so necessary for the construction of the historical speech. It has been proposed due to an impetrated diagnosis about the late Argentinean cinema, developed in the so-called Nuevo Cine Argentino, whose elaboration of its works bound to the time of pure present, or the time of thought is the most important characteristic to this research. Focusing on the historicity of these productions, we question whether there can be history when the narratives are tied to those times, once being restricted to the immediate everyday life, did not include insights on how we understand ourselves as being-in-time or historical beings. Furthermore, we wonder whether it is reasonable realizing the same type of immediate temporality in Brazilian productions. Therefore, from the Roger Chartier's concept of representation, and from film analysis, we study the films La mujer sin cabeza (2008), by Lucrecia Martel, as well as O Amor segundo B. Schianberg (2009), by the Brazilian film maker Beto Brant. In this analysis, we seek to detect the immediate and the everyday life in cinematographic narratives, consisting of cultural perceptions settled in historical paths, and thus perceptions of being-in-time. We support that they may be elected as representations, components of our cultural production and indicators of how we perceive ourselves and act in society.

This research aims to present the emergence of the Law of November 7th, 1831, known in history as “lei para inglês ver”. Realizing that this law was associated with political disputes over control of the imperial State during the juncture of 1826-1831, we aim to assess how the matter of the abolition of slavery trade in Brazil was used as an important policy tool for the political factions in that time, divided at first, between supporters and opponents to D. Pedro I, and then between moderates and exalted and caramurus. In this context, we emphasize the political role of the Marquis of Barbacena Felisberto Caldeira Brant Pontes de Oliveira Horta, a central figure in the politics of the First Reign and author of the stated law.

New Worlds – Mentions of the European expansion in French printed writings before 1560

Masse, Vincent 02 March 2010 (has links)
