Em um ambiente de constante mudança, as organizações brasileiras precisam de ferramentas que lhes proporcionem vantagem competitiva no mercado. A gestão por processos de negócios ou BPM (Business Process Management) possibilita a execução da estratégia da organização, pois proporciona o alinhamento entre esta e os processos de negócio, sendo que este alinhamento pode colocar a organização em posições competitivas mais favoráveis. Neste contexto, de modo a verificar a importância desta abordagem de gestão no cenário atual, como diferencial para ganho de competitividade, o objetivo desta pesquisa é elaborar um instrumento que verifique o estado atual da gestão por processos nas organizações brasileiras. Sua viabilidade se dá a partir da identificação de questionários utilizados em outras pesquisas e aplicados às organizações. Porém nessa busca não foram encontrados, na literatura, instrumentos aplicados às organizações brasileiras com o objetivo de analisar o estado atual da gestão por processos. Dessa forma, foi escolhido um questionário modelo considerando o objetivo da análise e, a partir deste, foram feitas adaptações para a aplicação ao caso brasileiro conforme necessidades levantadas e viabilidade científica. O instrumento de pesquisa proposto é o único que investiga a relação entre processos e estratégia de negócio, gestão dos riscos de processos, modelos de referência e contribuição de tecnologia da informação adaptado para a realidade das organizações brasileiras. Além disso, esse instrumento possibilita medir o estado atual da gestão por processos no mercado nacional, para que os esforços das empresas sejam direcionados no sentido que garantam sua competitividade no mercado em que estão inseridas, e para que seja possível traçar um comparativo entre o cenário nacional e internacional da gestão por processos. A partir desses resultados, outros estudos podem ser propostos para auxiliar no entendimento do estado atual da gestão por processos nas organizações brasileiras, assim como estas também podem verificar quais são as lacunas e suas oportunidades de melhoria com relação a essa abordagem de gestão. Por outro lado, além da relevância atual e da inovação, cabe destacar as limitações dessa pesquisa relacionadas aos ajustes e aperfeiçoamentos do instrumento proposto, que podem surgir com a aplicação e análises futuras do instrumento, devido ao desenvolvimento científico do tema gestão por processos, ou devido às possíveis lacunas na base da literatura científica utilizada para nortear a sua construção. / In an environment of constant change, Brazilian organizations need tools that give them a competitive advantage in the market. The business process management or BPM (Business Process Management) enables the execution of the organization\'s strategy as it provides the alignment between this and the business processes, and this alignment can put the organization in more favorable competitive positions. In this context, in order to verify the importance of this management approach in the current scenario, as a differential to gain competitiveness, the objective of this research is to develop an instrument to check the current status of process management in organizations. Its viability is given based on the identification of questionnaires used in other studies and applied to organizations. But in this search were not found in the literature, instruments applied to Brazilian organizations in order to analyze the current state of process management. Thus, a questionnaire was chosen model considering the purpose of the analysis and, from this, adjustments were made to the application to the Brazilian case raised as needs and scientific feasibility. The survey instrument proposed is the only one that investigates the relationship between processes and business strategy, risk management processes, reference models and contribution of information technology to the process management in organizations. Furthermore, this instrument allows measuring the current state of process management in the domestic market, so that companies\' efforts are directed towards ensuring its competitiveness in the market in which they operate, and to be able to draw a comparison between the scenario national and international process management. From these results, further studies may be offered to encourage the promotion of process management in organizations, as these can also check what are the gaps and opportunities for improvement with respect to this management approach. Moreover, beyond the current relevance and innovation, we highlight the limitations of this research related to adjustments and refinements of the proposed instrument, which may arise with the application and further analysis of the instrument, due to the scientific theme of management by processes, or due to possible gaps in basic scientific literature used to guide its construction.

The aim of this study has been to examine if an implementation of a One Stop Shop in the public sector and its IT-support can serve as a motor for business development. By examine the relation between the One Stop Shop and the public administrations we have tried to answer this question. The municipality that we have examined underwent a big change, seven years ago, when they implemented a One Stop Shop including a IT-support called Flexite. But despite these seven years and the fact that Flexite has changed approach from a Case Management System to a Support System for Business Development the municipality have not adapted to this change.

Abstract ------------- Background ---------------- Like other businesses, the failures and problems faced by the software development industry over the time have motivated experts to look for software process improvement to create quality software rapidly, repeatedly, and reliably. Objective ------------ The purpose of this study is to evaluate if and how Lean thinking and principles primarily associated with auto manufacturing industry can be applied to software development lifecycle for Software Process Improvement (SPI). The secondary aim is to analyze how BPR can be integrated with Lean software development for process improvement. Method ---------- A derived Lean-BPR adoption pattern model is used as a theoretical framework for this thesis. The seven Lean software development principles along with four-step BPR process are selected as process improvement patterns, which effects the KPIs of a software organization. This research study incorporates both Qualitative and Quantitative methods and data to analyze the objectives of this study. The methodological framework of Plan-Do-Check-Act is used in the case study to implement process re-engineering incorporating Lean and BPR principles. The impact of adopting the Lean and BPR principles is assessed in terms of cost, productivity, quality of products and resource management. Results ---------- Application of Lean and BPR principles for software process improvement in the organization under study resulted in 79% improvement in test coverage, 60% reduction in time for test execution and analysis and 44% reduction in cost for fixing defects that were being passed to customer in past. Conclusion ------------- Based on case study results, it can be concluded that Lean, a bottom up approach, characterized by empowerment of employees to analyze and improve their own working process can be effectively combined with IT centric traditionally top down BPR approach for improving KPI’s and software processes. / +45 40968458

Implement BPR and CPI to optimize the process of getting medicine in pharmacy : a comparison between Sweden and ChinaDai, Jingya January 2007 (has links)
This report generally focuses on the process of getting medicine from the pharmacy in the hospital. The processes are different in Sweden and in China due to the different concrete conditions. Compared with the Swedish process the Chinese flow lags fairly far behind. To optimize the Chinese process by taking advantage of the Swedish process is the intention of this report; it also gives the advice on how to improve the performance for the Swedish process. By comparing the multiple theories for process improvement, I used Business Process Reengineering (BPR) theory to reengineer the Chinese process and used Continues Process Improvement (CPI) theory to ameliorate the Swedish process. The differences between BPR and CPI are also revealed in this report.

For many years, the tight bureaucratic and task centered approaches of civil service institutions of Ethiopia led to fragmentation, overlap and duplications of efforts than being responsive, flexible and customer focus. To this end, Business Process Reengineering (BPR) has been considered as a government sector technique to help organizations fundamentally rethink how they do their work in order to dramatically improve customer service, cut operational costs, become responsive, flexible and customer focus. BPR has great potential for increasing productivity through reduced process time and cost, improved quality, and greater customer satisfaction, but it often requires a fundamental organizational change. Despite the numerous advantages of BPR in terms of responsiveness, flexibility and customer focus, its implementation is perceived to be a difficult task and also many unsuccessful experiences have been reported in the literature. In fact, there are very few survey researches that attempt to highlight the kinds of activities that the organizations should pursue to ensure a reasonable transition to the new process; manage the human and technical issues surrounding implementation of the new process; and assess the results of its reengineering efforts. But these researchers saw the issues from private cooperative organizational perspectives and contexts. Besides, most of the discussions and findings were stretched up to showing that successful BPR implementations process are mainly associated with the organizations capability in managing changes. The researches paid no attention to other factors, like the issues of enabler, tools and techniques which can be utilized to build momentum. Hence, the present research investigated the factors associated with successful implementations of BPR projects in the contexts of public institutions. Based on a case study conducted in Ethiopian Ministry of Health and Gambella Regional Health Bureau; this research attempted to provide guidelines and best practices in public service providing institutions that will help them to achieve dramatic performance gains while implementing BPR projects. A cross sectional, qualitative and quantitative study was conducted taking 90 respondents and 20 interviewees as study subjects. Data were collected from June 1 to July 31 2010. A structured questionnaire was filled by 90 respondents where 43.3 % of them from Gambella Peoples’ National Regional State Health Bureau and 56.7% of them were from Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health. The questionnaire was employed to collect data on change management and factors associated with the attainment of performance goals whereas in-depth interviews were utilized to substantiate the findings of questionnaire and investigate the use of information technology as enabler. The in-depth interviews included planners, core process owners and directors. Cross tabulation results imply that there is significant associations between attainment of performance goals and availability of written comprehensive plan for pilot test, refinement and implementation of change management plan, availability of communication strategy, placement of performance measures, motivation to take new roles and responsibilities, Use of information technology as enabler and pilot testing to evaluate new process. Hence, the findings of this research suggest that reengineering project implementation is complex, involving many factors. To succeed, it is essential that change be managed and that balanced attention be paid to all identified factors, including those that are more contextual (e.g., management support and technological competence), performance management, availability of comprehensive implementation plan, communication strategies, refinement and implementation of change management plan, use of pilot testing to evaluate new process, motivation to take new roles and responsibilities and usage information technology as enabler. / +251911436197, Gambella, Ethiopia, P.o.box. 90

Over the years, information technology has created opportunities to improve and extend businesses and to start conducting business in new ways. With the evolution of IT, all businesses and industries are becoming increasingly digitized. This process, or coevolution, of IT and business coming together is called digital transformation. One of the recent trends in this digital transformation is the use of application programmable interfaces (APIs). APIs are standardized digital communication interfaces, used for communication and exchange of information between systems, services and devices (such as computers, smartphones and connected machines). API communication is one of the foundational building blocks in recent disruptive technology trends such as mobile and cloud computing. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the business impact that is created in digital transformation related to the use of APIs. To investigate this novel area, an exploratory study is performed where a frame of reference with an exploratory framework is created based on established academic literature. The exploratory framework consists of three main parts which cover the research questions, including Business Drivers, Business Model Change & Innovation and Challenges & Limitations related to API-enabled digital transformation. The framework is used to gather empirical data consisting of two types, interviews (primary data) and contemporary reports (secondary data). Interviews are performed with API-utilizing companies, consulting firms and IT solution providers and contemporary reports are published by consulting and technology research and advisory firms. Two main business drivers are identified in the study. The first is Understanding & Satisfying Customer Needs which is derived from companies experiencing stronger and changing demands for automated, personalized value-adding services. This requires higher degree of integration across channels and organizations. The second driver is Business Agility, which derives from higher requirements on adapting to changing environments while maintaining operational efficiency. Cost Reduction is also mentioned as a third and secondary driver, as a positive side-effect in combination with the other drivers. The identified impact on business models is that business model innovation is mostly happening in the front-end of business model towards customers. Several examples also exist of purely API-enabled businesses that sell services or manage information exchanges over APIs. The challenges and limitations identified are mostly classic challenges of using IT in businesses and not specific to use of APIs, where the general consensus is that IT and business need to become more integrated, and that strategy and governance for API-initiatives need to be established.

Business Intelligence (BI) is the set of techniques and technologies that support the decision-making process by providing an aggregated insight on data in the organization. Due to the numerous potentially useful data hold by the events and applications running in the organization, the BI market calls for new technologies able to suitably exploit it for analysis wherever it is available. In particular, the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes, the fundamental BI technology responsible for integrating and cleansing organization data, must respond to these requirements.<p><p>However, the development of ETL processes is still considered to be very complex and time-consuming, to such a point that roughly 80% of the BI project effort is dedicated to the ETL development. Among the phases of ETL development life cycle, ETL modeling is a critical and laborious task. Actually, this phase produces<p>the first effective formal representation of the ETL process, i.e. ETL model, that is completely reused and refined in the subsequent phases of the development.<p><p>Typically, the ETL processes are modeled using vendor-specific ETL tools from the very beginning of development. However, these tools are unsuitable for business users since they induce overwhelming fine-grained models.<p><p>As an attempt to provide more appropriate tools to business users, vendor-independent ETL modeling languages have been proposed in the literature. Nevertheless, they still remain immature. In order to get a precise view on these languages, we conduct a survey which: i) defines a set of criteria associated to major ETL<p>requirements identified in the literature; ii) compares the surveyed conceptual languages, issued from research work, to the physical languages, issued from prominent ETL tools; and iii) studies the whole methodologies of ETL development associated<p>to these modeling languages.<p><p>The analysis of our survey reveals several drawbacks in responding to the ETL requirements. Particularly, the conceptual languages have incomplete elements for ETL modeling with few or no formalization. Several languages are only descriptive with no ability to be automatically implemented into executable code, nor are they able to be automatically maintained according to changes over time.<p><p>To address these shortcomings, we present, in this thesis, a novel approach that tackles the whole development life cycle of ETL processes. <p><p>First, we propose a new vendor-independent language aiming at modeling ETL processes similar to typical business processes, the processes responsible for managing the operations in an organization. The rational behind this proposal is to provide ETL processes with better access to data in events and applications of the organization, including fresh data, and better design capabilities such as available analysis for any users. By using the standard representation mechanism denoted BPMN (Business Process Modeling and Notation) and a classification of ETL elements resulting from a study of the most used commercial and open source ETL tools, the language enables building agile and full-edged ETL processes. We name our language BPMN4ETL to refer to BPMN for ETL processes.<p><p>Second, we build a model-driven framework that provides automatic code generation capability and ameliorates maintenance support of our ETL language. We use the Model-Driven Development (MDD) technology as it helps in developing software, particularly in automating the transformation from one phase of the software development to another. We present a set of model-to-text transformations able to produce code for different business process engines and ETL engines. Also, we depict the model-to-model transformations that automatically update the ETL models with the aim of supporting the maintenance of the generated code according to data source evolution. A demonstration using a case study is conducted as an initial validation to show that the framework covering modeling, implementation and maintenance could be used in practice.<p><p> To illustrate new concepts introduced in the thesis, mainly the BPMN4ETL language, and the implementation and maintenance framework, we use a case study from the fictitious Northwind Traders company, a retailer company that imports and exports foods from around the world. / Doctorat en Sciences de l'ingénieur / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

Depuis plusieurs années, la mondialisation du marché, l'augmentation des exigences des clients, et la recherche permanente d'une baisse des coûts induisent un accroissement fort de la complexité du monde industriel. Ainsi, la collaboration inter-organisationnelle devient essentielle pour maintenir et renforcer la compétitivité des entreprises. Dans cette optique, le système d'information peut, selon sa flexibilité et sa robustesse, freiner ou faciliter cette collaboration. Cette problématique est le point de départ du projet MISE (Mediation Information System Engineering) qui propose une solution pour la conception et la réalisation d'un système d'information collaboratif. Cette solution se base sur une démarche d'ingénierie dirigée par les modèles, couplée à une approche Business Process Management (BPM) et reposant sur les Architectures Orientées Services (SOA). Cette démarche se déroule en deux étapes : (i) la génération d'une cartographie de processus répondant à une situation collaborative (niveau métier), et (ii) sa transformation en un système exécutable (niveau technique). Les travaux présentés dans ce manuscrit s'inscrivent dans cette démarche. Ils s'intéressent en particulier au passage du niveau métier vers le niveau technique en se focalisant sur les aspects non-fonctionnels. Nous présentons une approche permettant (i) d'annoter les activités métier à l'aide d'exigences non-fonctionnelles lors de la modélisation des processus collaboratifs, (ii) de rationaliser la gestion des services et leurs propriétés non-fonctionnelles au moyen de la Gouvernance SOA, et enfin (iii) de faire une réconciliation non-fonctionnelle entre les activités et les services. Nous avons validé les concepts de notre approche au travers de deux prototypes : Petals BPM-NFR pour la modélisation et l'annotation non-fonctionnelle des processus métier, et EasierGov-NFR pour la gouvernance des services et leurs propriétés non-fonctionnelles ainsi que la réconciliation non-fonctionnelle. Un cas d'étude illustre notre approche pour prouver son applicabilité. Ces travaux s'inscrivent au sein du projet européen FP7 CHOReOS. / Over the last years, the globalization, the increase of customers requirements, and the constant search for lower costs, have induced a steep complexity of organization's management. Therefore, inter-organizational collaboration becomes essential to maintain and enhance the competitiveness of enterprises. In this context, the information system may, depending on its flexibility and its robustness, hamper or facilitate this collaboration. One approach to resolve this problem has been taken by the MISE (Mediation Information System Engineering) project. It aims to provide an effective implementation of a collaborative information system, based on Model-Driven Engineering, coupled with a Business Process Management approach (BPM) and supported by Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). This solution consists in two steps: (i) the generation of a business processes map from the description of a collaborative situation (business level), and (ii) the transformation of these process models into an executable system (technical level). The works detailed in this PhD take roots in this solution and improve it by adding non-functional aspects management during the transition from the business level to the technical level. We present an approach that: first (i) annotates the business activities with Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) in the processes modelling stage, second (ii) rationalizes the management of services and their non-functional properties through SOA Governance, and third (iii) makes a non-functional reconciliation between activities and services. We validate our approach through two prototypes: Petals BPM-NFR for modelling and non-functional annotation of business process, and EasierGov-NFR for the governance of services and their non- functional properties, and the non-functional reconciliation. A case study illustrates our approach to demonstrate its applicability. This work is supported by the FP7 European project CHOReOS.

Le volume des données relatives à l'exécution des processus métiers augmente de manière significative dans l'entreprise. Beaucoup de sources de données comprennent les événements liés à l'exécution des mêmes processus dans différents systèmes ou applications. La corrélation des événements est la tâche de l'analyse d'un référentiel de journaux d'événements afin de trouver l'ensemble des événements qui appartiennent à la même trace d'exécution du processus métier. Il s'agit d'une étape clé dans la découverte des processus à partir de journaux d'événements d'exécution. La corrélation des événements est une tâche de calcul intensif dans le sens où elle nécessite une analyse approfondie des relations entre les événements dans des dépôts très grande et qui évolue de plus en plus, et l'exploration de différentes relations possibles entre ces événements. Dans cette thèse, nous présentons une technique d'analyse de données évolutives pour soutenir d'une manière efficace la corrélation des événements pour les fouilles des processus métiers. Nous proposons une approche en deux étapes pour calculer les conditions de corrélation et héritier entraîné des instances de processus de journaux d'événements en utilisant la plateforme MapReduce. Les résultats expérimentaux montrent que l'algorithme s'adapte parfaitement à de grands ensembles de données. / The volume of data related to business process execution is increasing significantly in the enterprise. Many of data sources include events related to the execution of the same processes in various systems or applications. Event correlation is the task of analyzing a repository of event logs in order to find out the set of events that belong to the same business process execution instance. This is a key step in the discovery of business processes from event execution logs. Event correlation is a computationally-intensive task in the sense that it requires a deep analysis of very large and growing repositories of event logs, and exploration of various possible relationships among the events. In this dissertation, we present a scalable data analysis technique to support efficient event correlation for mining business processes. We propose a two-stages approach to compute correlation conditions and their entailed process instances from event logs using MapReduce framework. The experimental results show that the algorithm scales well to large datasets.

Automated creation and provisioning of value-added telecommunication servicesEichelmann, Thomas January 2015 (has links)
The subject of this research is to find a continuous solution, which allows the description, the creation, the provisioning, and the execution of value-added telecommunication services. This work proposes a framework for an easy and timesaving creation and provisioning of value-added telecommunication services in Next Generation Networks. As research method, feasibility, comparative methods are used in this study. Criteria and requirements for service description, service creation, service execution, and service provisioning, are defined and existing technologies are compared with each other and evaluated regarding these criteria and requirements. Extensions to the selected technologies are proposed and possibilities to combine these technologies are researched. From the results of the previous steps, a framework is defined which offers a continuous solution for the description, creation, provisioning and execution of value-added services. In order to test the proof of concept, this framework is prototypically implemented. For a qualitative analysis of the research targets and the proof of concept, an example service is created and executed within the framework prototype. Furthermore, in order to examine the validity of the quantitative aims and objectives of this research work, a second example service is created, and its characteristics are measured and analysed. The result of this research is a novel continuous approach for the creation of value-added telecommunication services. This research introduces new possibilities for the service description, service creation, service provisioning, and service execution through an extension of the common telecommunication real-time execution environment JAIN SLEE. Value-added services are described by using the business process execution language BPEL. This language facilitates a simple and fast service design. The service can automatically be composed from pre-defined and pre-deployed components.
