Previous issue date: 2013-06-12 / The objective of this investigation is to analyze the reduction of working hours
as an implementing factor for the realization of workers social rights to health and
recreation.
Firstly, we introduce the concepts of the "duration of working time" and
"working hours", followed by a study of their historical evolution, in Brazil and abroad.
The chapter The Benefits of Working Hours Reduction covers both the direct
benefits related to the rights to health and leisure and the indirect ones related to the
generation of jobs and consequent heating of the economy.
The realization of social rights to health and leisure - part of the Rights and
Fundamental Guarantees laid down by the Constitution of 1988 - requires further
analysis.
We also address some issues like the commercialization of the workers health
and the recommendation of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for a 40-hour
working week, based on documents and international legislation.
The possibility of the current working hours be reduced through collective
bargaining is evaluated in light of the specificities of the Brazilian union system.
Finally, this study examines a number of legislative proposals aimed at
reducing the working hours in Brazil. Among them, we highlight the Constitutional
Amendment 231 project, since it is in line with the present investigation as far as
proposing a 40-hour workweek as a way to effectively materialize the right to health
and leisure of Brazilian workers / O objetivo deste estudo é analisar a redução da jornada de trabalho como
fator implementador para a efetivação dos direitos sociais à saúde e ao lazer do
trabalhador.
Inicialmente, são apresentados os conceitos de duração de trabalho e
jornada de trabalho ; em seguida, um estudo sobre sua evolução histórica, no Brasil
e no exterior.
O capítulo Dos Benefícios da Redução da Jornada de Trabalho aborda os
benefícios diretos, relacionados aos direitos à saúde e ao lazer, e os indiretos,
relativos à geração de empregos e, consequentemente, ao natural aquecimento da
economia.
A efetivação dos direitos sociais à saúde e ao lazer, espécies do gênero Dos
Direitos e Garantias Fundamentais, previstos pela Constituição Federal de 1988,
merecem uma análise mais aprofundada.
São abordados, ainda, os temas da mercantilização da saúde do trabalhador
e, em seguida, a recomendação da Organização Internacional do Trabalho (OIT)
para uma duração semanal de até 40 horas de trabalho, com base em documentos
e legislação internacional.
A possibilidade de a jornada atual ser reduzida por meio de negociação
coletiva é avaliada em face das especificidades do sistema sindical brasileiro.
Por fim, o estudo analisa a grande quantidade de propostas legislativas que
visam reduzir a jornada de trabalho no Brasil. Entre elas, merece destaque o projeto
de Emenda Constitucional nº 231, pois está em consonância com a presente
dissertação ao propor uma jornada semanal de 40 horas, como forma de realmente
efetivar o direito à saúde e ao lazer do trabalhador brasileiro

A linguistic ethnography of learning to teach English at Japanese junior high schoolsHall, James M. January 2017 (has links)
The study examined three Japanese junior high-school English teachers’ initial years of full-time employment. It investigated the type of pedagogical puzzles these teachers experienced, how their practice developed over 18 months, and my role as a Teacher of Teachers (TOT). Drawing on linguistic ethnography, this study took an ethnographic approach to understanding the teachers’ social context and used techniques from discourse analysis to consider how they interpreted their puzzles and constructed their practice. These techniques were also used to analyze my working relationship with the teachers. The purpose of this endeavor was to contribute to the understanding of novice teacher development in an ‘expanding circle’ country. Over the course of the study, I observed the teachers’ classes and interviewed them once or twice a month. Using the coding of interview transcripts and class fieldnotes, I identified Critical Incidents that represented the teachers’ pedagogical puzzles and typical practice, as well as my role as a TOT. Using Cultural Historical Activity Theory(CHAT), I analyzed how elements of the social context brought about the teachers’ pedagogical puzzles and affected their capacity to address them. Coding of the interviews and a microanalysis of the interactions showed my role as a TOT. Overall, the CIs gave an emic portrait of each teacher’s experience and my efforts to support them. The pedagogical puzzles the teachers faced were a result of their personal histories and school conditions. These puzzles did not change, which indicates that teachers will face complex issues that cannot be resolved. Understanding them, however, can promote teacher development. Applying CHAT, I could identify the conditions that helped determine the types of pedagogy in which teachers engaged. I tried to fulfill my role as a TOT by conducting a form of reflective practice (RP). An examination of the RP I conducted with the teachers challenged the notion that it involves the sequential steps of identifying issues, attempting to resolve them, and reflecting on one’s efforts. This dissertation concludes with a discussion about the contributions it has made toward the field of English teacher development: using CHAT to understand the English teaching experiences, the development of an understanding of RP as it can be carried out in the field, an understanding of novice teachers in expanding circle countries, and the value of linguistic ethnography for researching novice teachers.

Previous issue date: 2014-10-22 / This study aims at adding some considerations on the development of intercultural competence in teaching English as a foreign language teaching (TEFL). The corpus under analysis has consisted of the observation of a group of adult students linguistical behavior in English as a foreign language classes within a 12 months ́ period of time. The programme content has been elaborated in such a way that dynamic activities should take place and provide the subjects ́ interaction, that is, the researcher and teacher on one side and the students, on the other side, as the participant group. The purpose has been to analyze students intercultural abilities on the basis of research-action methodology. Intercultural pieces of reality from Western countries, as well as the emphasis on multicultural thought, have been presented to the students. The technique adopted to introduce distinct intercultural pieces of reality has used authentic material and the criterion has involved themes related to politics, economics and creative thinking. Observation of the students linguistical behavior has resulted in subcategories such as generalization, which has been analyzed under the parameter of foreign language teaching as the third space. / O presente trabalho visa a contribuir com reflexões sobre o desenvolvimento da competência intercultural no ensino das línguas estrangeiras. O corpus para a análise constituiu-se na observação do comportamento linguístico de um grupo de alunos adultos de aulas de inglês como língua estrangeira (LE) no período de 12 meses. O conteúdo programático foi especialmente elaborado para que ocorressem dinâmicas que propiciassem a interação dos sujeitos envolvidos a saber, a professora como pesquisadora e os alunos enquanto grupo participante, com a finalidade de analisar as habilidades interculturais dos alunos, dentro dos pressupostos da metodologia da pesquisa-ação. Foram apresentadas aos alunos realidades interculturais provenientes de países do Ocidente, além de ênfase no pensamento multicultural. A técnica adotada para a apresentação de realidades interculturais distintas serviu-se de material autêntico, cujo critério de seleção foram temas relaciona dos à política, à economia e ao pensamento criativo. O resultado da observação do comportamento linguístico dos alunos trouxe subcategorias como a generalização, que foi analisada tendo como parâmetro o ensino de língua estrangeira enquanto terceiro espaço de enunciação.

「溝通」為語言學習的主要目的,如何能使中級華語學習者自然流暢地表達個人觀點並更貼近母語人士的語言習慣是本研究所探討的議題。研究顯示「電影」應用於第二語言教材可以幫助學習者提升溝通能力,更可持續激發語言學習的興趣。然而台灣目前使用電影主要以文化課程輔助進行,尚未規劃專門的電影華語課程,且普遍以成人為主教學對象。
因此本文主要探討如何應用華語電影於青少年華語課程,並分析華語電影教材的學習成效。本研究採用文獻回顧探究電影教學相關研究、中英教學中的電影教學發展、青少年華語教學、教學法與教學模式,以第二章節作為理論架構,依據此架構設計電影華語課程並實際執行。研究結果顯示使用溝通式教學法所延伸的教學活動,同時搭配ADDIE教學模式能有效地將電影教材應用於華語課程中,不僅符合學習者的學習需求,更使教學更具系統性。研究者依電影主題歸納成11種類型,針對青少年學習者選取「愛情類」、「勵志類」類型,以此兩種主題作為框架列舉出20部適合用於華語課程的電影,另外參考電影作為第二語言教材的標準,制定5項華語電影選取原則提供教學者參考。回饋結果顯示,學習者認為電影華語課程能提升聽、說能力,其次為閱讀能力,最後為寫作能力。整體而言,青少年學習者對於電影運用於語言課程中抱持正面的看法,大部分的學習者表示喜愛電影主題和課程中所討論的話題,透過課程中不斷地問答和多元的任務練習活動,學習者溝通時能以自然的表達方式和他人交流想法,並以尊重、包容和分享的情懷欣賞跨文化的議題。最後,研究者於文末提供未來電影華語教學之研究建議。 / Communication is the main purpose of language learning. This research is concerned about how to assist intermediate-level learners in expressing fluently and using the language according to the native speaker's habits. Research shows that using “ Film” can help to improve the communicative ability of the learners, which can also trigger more interest in language learning. However, the use of films for teaching Chinese in Taiwan is limited to culture classes of the adult, not planned for specialized classes.
Hence, the main purpose of this research is to analyze how to apply Chinese films in adolescent Chinese courses, and the effect of Chinese film courses. The method of this research is based on the literature review in both teaching Chinese and English by using film, teaching Chinese for adolescent, teaching method and teaching model. Through this framework, the author has planned and implemented the lesson on teaching Chinese through Chinese films. The result has shown that using Communicative Language Teaching and ADDIE teaching model at the same time can incorporate film materials into courses more effectively. According to the film genre, the author has classified 11 types of films, analyzed romance and inspiration topic for adolescent learners, listed 20 films through which are suitable for Chinese courses. Besides, this research has drawn up 5 criteria for selecting Chinese films. The result of the survey has shown that listening and speaking ability can be increased after courses, but not much practice on reading and writing ability. Overall, using film as class material receives a very positive feedback from adolescent learners. Most of the learners show their high interest in themes and topics of the courses, learners can share ideas and express themselves naturally with others through diverse tasks in the class. Meanwhile learning to show respect to different cultures in cross-cultural issues. Pedagogical implications and suggestions for further research are included at the end of this thesis.

In-Plane Lateral Load Capacities of Vertically Oriented Interlocking Timber PanelsDecker, Brandon T 01 July 2014 (has links)
The Vertically Oriented Interlocking Timber (VOIT) panel is a new solid wood panel similar to Interlocking Cross Laminated Timber (ICLT) and the more commonly known Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). Like ICLT, VOIT panels use timber connections instead of the adhesives or metal fasteners common to CLT. The difference of VOIT is the orientation of the layers. Where CLT and ICLT panels alternate the orientation of each layer, VOIT panels orient all the layers in the same direction. The vertically oriented layers are then attached to one another by smaller horizontal dovetail members.Two types of VOIT panels were provided to be tested for in-plane lateral loading. Type I had three rows of horizontal dovetail members connecting the layers and Type II had four rows of dovetail members as well as two diagonal members to provide stiffness. Two panels of each type were provided, measuring 8 ft. wide, 8 ft. tall, and 13.75 in. thick. Each panel was disassembled after monotonic lateral in-plane loading to determine possible failure modes. Testing results suggest the VOIT panels to be comparable in shear strength to other wood shear walls, including light frame, CLT, and ICLT walls. A two-part analytical model was created to determine the deflection of the wall when loaded as well as the shear strength of the wall. The model predicted deflection and wall strength reasonably well. Due to the small sample size, additional testing is necessary to confirm the results of the Type I and Type II VOIT panels. Additional testing with more variations of the panel and member geometries is also needed to validate the scope of the model.

I Sverige finns en lång tradition att byggande med materialet trä men det är främst av småhus som byggts. Flerbostadshusmarknaden har länge dominerats av materialen betong och stål men med dagens syn på hållbart byggande har byggnationen av trä blivit allt mer eftertraktat. Men det finns fortfarande en del utmaningar med att bygga höga hus i trä. Med ökade antal våningar så ökar lasterna och ett problem vid byggande av höga hus med träregelstomme är stämpeltrycket på syllen. Vid för hög belastning på syllen deformeras denna vilket kan inverka på stommens stabilitet och bärförmåga. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka om en syll av korslimmat trä kan förbättra förutsättningarna för att bygga höghus med träregelstomme. I arbetet jämförs stämpeltrycket för två olika varianter av syllar med KL-trä samt med en traditionell syll. Dimensionen på syllarna är 120 x 45 mm och virkesklass C24. Idén är att utnyttja KL-träets korsande fiberriktningar för att uppnå en högre tryckhållfasthet. Vid genomförda experimentella försök mäts tryckkraft, förskjutning och töjningar av syllarna som belastades av en hydraulisk press och analyserade med hjälp av ett beröringsfritt mätsystem. Tre olika beräkningsmodeller för syll av KL-trä är framtagna och jämförs med resultatet från experimentet. Resultatet visar på att en syll av KL-trä har en betydligt högre tryckhållfasthet än en traditionell syll. Detta ger goda förutsättningar för att bygga höga hus med träregelstomme. / In Sweden, there is a long tradition of building timber structures mainly for the small-house market. The multi-dwelling housing market has for long been dominated by building materials such as concrete and steel, but with today's preferences of sustainable construction materials, wood has become increasingly sought after. But there are still some challenges in building tall houses in wood. With increased number of floors, the loads increase and a problem when building high-rise buildings with wooden stud and rails system is the compression perpendicular to the grain in the bottom rail. When the bottom rail is loaded deformation occurs, which can affect the stability and bearing capacity of the structure. The aim with this bachelor thesis is to investigate whether a cross-laminated timber rail can improve the preconditions for building tall buildings with by use of timber frame. Compression perpendicular to two different CLT rails will be compared to a traditional one. The dimensions of the bottom rails are 120 x 45 mm and strength class C24. The idea is to utilize the CLT intersecting fiber directions to achieve a higher compressive strength. In the experiment, compressive force, displacement and elongation of the bottom rails are measured by means of a hydraulic press and a contact-free camera based measuring system. Three different calculation models for the CLT sills have been developed and compared with the results of the experiment. The result shows that a CLT rail has two to three times higher compressive strength compared to a traditional rail. This suggests a solution to the challenge with high compressive stresses in the rail.

Förstärkning av träregelstomme med KL-trä : Teoretisk utvärdering av olika ytterväggstyper / Strengthening of light frame timber walls with CLT : Evaluation of different wall typesLarsson, Joel January 2020 (has links)
På senare tid har intresset för och viljan att bygga flerbostadshus i trä ökat och medfört en trend att bygga allt högre hus med stomme av trä. En aktör är Lindbäcks Bygg som bygger flerbostadshusi trä med volymelement och lätt regelstomme. Idag begränsas dock möjligt antal våningar med regelstomme till 6 – 8 våningar. Ett relativt nytt material inom träbyggnadstekniken är korslimmat trä (KL-trä) vars användning gjort det möjligt att bygga högre byggnader i trä. Examensarbetets syfte är att studera olika lösningar för hur Lindbäcks regelstomme kan förstärkas med KL-trä, vilket kan göra det möjligt att bygga allt högre flerbostadshus i trä. Samt att jämföra denna lösning med den idag använda regelstommen utan KL-trä. Studien har avgränsats till att enbart behandla ytterväggar. För att uppskatta rimliga laster på ytterväggar i en flervåningsbyggnad togs en principbyggnad (ihopsatt av ett antal volymelement) fram. I beräkningar tillämpades ett antal olika ytterväggstyper, en med den idag användaregelstommen (referensvägg) samt fem med regelstomme i kombination med KL-skivor i olika tjocklekar. För principbyggnaden kontrollerades genom beräkningar hur högt det är möjligt att bygga vid tillämpning av vardera ytterväggstyp. De olika ytterväggstyperna med KL-trä jämfördes även med referensytterväggen utifrån U-värde samt kostnad. Idag används KL-trä ibland av Lindbäcks och då som stabiliserande väggar. I deras fabriker tillämpas en lösning där KL-träskivorna fälls in mellan syll och hammarband tillsammans med reglarna. Beräkningar har visat att det, för principbyggnaden, med denna lösning är möjligt att bygga maximalt 2 våningar högre jämfört med referensytterväggen, detta för den bästa av ytterväggstypernaförstärkta med KL-trä. Det som begränsar ett högre antal våningar är trycket vinkelrätt fiberriktningen på syllen under KL-skivorna. Beräkningar visar att det finns en potential att med regelstomme förstärkt med KL-trä kunna bygga ännu högre om en annan lösning används där KL-träskivorna placeras på utsidan av syll, hammarband och reglar istället för infälld mellan syll och hammarband. Med denna lösning undviks tryck vinkelrätt fiberriktningen på syll under KL-skivor och KL-skivans kapacitet kan utnyttjas effektivare då normalkraftskapaciteten för själva skivan blir den begränsande faktorn för hur högt det går att bygga. Enligt beräkningar är det, för principbyggnaden, med denna lösning möjligt att bygga uppemot 8 våningar högre än med referensytterväggen. När KL-trä används i stommen ökar energiförlusterna genom väggen, dvs. U-värdet ökar, då reglar med mellanliggande isolering ersätts av KL-trä med sämre värmeledningsförmåga. Enligt beräkningar uppskattas U-värdet öka jmf. med för referensyttervägg, detta med ca. 20 – 40 % beroende på ytterväggstyp. Ökningen kan dock begränsas till ca. 0,4 – 14 % genom införande av ett 45 mm installationsskikt med isolering på väggens insida. Även kostnaden för ytterväggstyper med regelstomme förstärkt med KL-trä uppskattas öka jmf. med uppskattad kostnad för referensyttervägg. Detta med uppskattningsvis 40 – 50 %, vilket till huvudsak är en följd av ökad materialkostnad för KL-skivor som delvis ersätter reglar med mellanliggande isolering. / Today there is an increased interest in building taller buildings with timber. Lindbäcks Bygg is one of companies that uses modular construction with light timber stud frames. However, a problem with light timber frames is that the building height is limited to roughly 6 - 8 stories. A relatively new product in timber engineering is cross laminated timber (CLT) and the use of this product have made it possible to build taller timber buildings. The purpose of this study is to investigate different solutions for how Lindbäcks can strengthen their stud frames by using CLT and thereby build taller buildings. The difference with respect to U-value and cost between the walls strengthened width CLT and the typical stud frame wall, that is used today, is also studied. The study has been limited to exterior walls only. A multi-storey building consisting of several modules/volume elements has been used to estimate reasonable loads on the exterior walls. Different wall types, one with the ordinary stud frame (the reference wall) and five types of stud walls strengthened with different thicknesses of CLT, have been investigated. The maximal number of storeys that can be build, the U-value and the cost were determined by calculations for each of the studied wall types and were compared with the results for the reference wall. Today, Lindbäcks Bygg sometimes uses CLT for stabilizing walls. In their factories, they use a solution in which the CLT-plate is placed between the top and bottom plate together with the studs. According to the calculations it is, with this solution, possible to build up to 2 storeys higher then with the reference wall. The limiting factor for how high it is possible to build, is compression perpendicular to the grain on the bottom plate underneath the CLT-plate. If a solution where the CLT-plate is placed on the outside of the frame (consisting of studs, top and bottom plate) is used instead of between the top and bottom plate does the calculations show that a higher number of storeys is possible. With this solution, the compression perpendicular to the grain underneath the CLT-plate is avoided and the limiting factor is instead the compression strength of the CLT-plate. This means that the CLT can be used more efficiently. Calculations show that it is possible to build up to 8 storeys higher with this solution compared to what is possible with the reference wall. With CLT increases the energy losses through the wall, i.e. increased U-value, since studs with insulation in between is partially replaced with CLT that has worse thermal conductivity. According to the calculations, the U-value is 20 – 40 % higher (depending on the wall type) compared to the reference wall. The increase in U-value can be limited to 0.4 – 14 % by adding an extra layer with 45 mm insulation on the inside of the CLT-plate. The cost for the wall types strengthened with CLT is also higher compared to the estimated cost for the reference wall. The main reason for this is increased cost of materials since the studs with insulation in between is partially replaced with the more expensive CLT, which is an engineered wood product. The increase in cost is estimated to roughly 40 – 50 % of the cost for the reference wall.
