Perceptions of Programming: Cultivation and Third Person Influences on College Students

Fisher, Suzette Marie 07 July 2008 (has links)
There have been many studies conducted on television and its effects. Since the 1950's, when television emerged, there has been an influx of patterns and behaviors associated with television viewing and programming. Many researchers are fascinated with television and the reactions of those who are directly affected by it. People have been known to act out in many ways as a result of something they saw on television. Many believe that television viewing directly affects a person's mind. An analysis of the results of this qualitative study indicates that college students perceive television has an impact on viewers. Throughout the course of both the focus group and individual interviews, several themes were strongly developed among participants. These included: 1.College students do not believe that television influences the way they individually dress, act, and eat, but it does influence the same behaviors of other people their age. However, these same students reported that they recognized that television has an influence on their lives, and in combination with how they were raised in their families, it made them who they are today. 2.College students continue to believe there is too much violence on television. 3.Television often does not depict reality.

INTRODUCTION: The present study aimed to investigate how the internal dynamics of the contemporary family group has been developing on its network link and interaction, seeking to understand its resonances in the children’s process of socialization. This is a qualitative research that started with a specific focus of Social Psychology: CSRO (Conceptual Schema Reference and Operation) created and developed by Pichon-Rivière. METHODOLOGY: Semi-structured interviews were carried out on an individual basis, with three couples of middle class/upper middle class in Salvador with higher education, and children in 05-10 years. Then, the Operational Group formed with three women/spouses of interviewed couples and two other women whose spouses could not be interviewed. RESULTS: The results obtained were presented through five theme axes: Women X Work; Individualization X Belonging/Cooperation; Crisis X Change/Overcoming; Verticality X Horizontality; New technologies X New bonds X New models of learning. Such axes might reveal that the function of socialization and education in the family is being hampered every day, as well as the parental function that sustains it, due to new and adverse conditions emerging from social, cultural and technological processes nowadays. Those processes, due to the degree of acceleration they occur, generate instability and insecurity in the family and therefore in their ties. CONCLUSION: In this context and in relation to the functions already mentioned, the mother/woman has a more participatory role with their children and in the support of family bonds. Aspects revealed are inconclusive and deserve a more profound study, due to their level of complexity.

Fundamentos da gambiarra: a improvisação utilitária contemporânea e seu contexto socioeconômico / The \"gambiarra\" fundaments: the contemporary utilitirian improvisation and its socioeconomical context

Rodrigo Naumann Boufleur 24 April 2013 (has links)
This thesis investigates a set of everyday life practices related to the improvisation of industrialized objects, aiming utilitarian finility. Such practices, due to the specificity of modifying the industrial product with this purpose, are here called \"gambiarras\" (Brazilian word for kludge, workaround). It is argued that these procedures are necessary and complementary to the use of the artifacts produced by the capitalist mode of production, subverting its designs. Substantiated empirically by the collecting and organization of original iconographic documentation, covering different types of tangible object of research, the thesis interprets this material through two theoretical lines. Initially, under the light of the theory of the commodity contained in Das Capital and other essays, seeks to understand the structure of the socioeconomic context of the gambiarra, using some additional sociohistorical notes. Then, supported by propositions of Michel de Certeau about the \"everyday practices\" and the \"production through consumption\", the gambiarra is focused as permanent manifestation of human creativity and social tactics able to maneuver the traditional order of market-based perspective of a passive consumption.

The art of narrating in Alessandro Barrico: looking for narrator who lives in each one of us

Maria Célia Martirani Bernardi Fantin 13 August 2008 (has links)
Alessandro Baricco, a contemporary italian writer, believes in the narratives strenght as a resistences form against the claims of a society which is not able to change experiences neither see the essential, because became victim of a words and sensess lacking. / With technological development, expansion of markets and industrialization, the capital-labor ratio unchanged, generating wealth for a privileged fraction of contemporary Western society, entrepreneurs. In this phase, inaugurated the capitalist production, focused on the use of the machine (which enabled an enormous increase in production with low costs) and controlled by the bourgeois class, as well as expansion of formal markets. Mainly from the year 1980, in contemporary Western society, the logic of the market gains prestige, and introduces himself as successful solution for business owners grow their businesses. While the economic logic enables market expansion and profits increasingly invades her social life, ie, the beads do not marketing. The changes in contemporary society to meet the deployment of the current form of capitalism led to the reconfiguration of the forms of sociability in the image of market relations. The form of social relations becomes predominant, a booking form where the individual is enough in itself, does not know the neighbor, no social involvement. To Dayrell (2011), sociability is a core dimension of juvenile condition. The groups are essential for young people. This is because the groups that young people talk, exchange ideas, flirt and vent about the events that took place. A space where young students stay for a long time is in the university context, so this space is a place of training and encounter groups of friends, besides being a permanent space for social construction. Based on this context, the aim of this study is to understand the settings of sociability of young students entered into the Student Assistance Program, Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). The interest in studying the forms of sociability among young Student Assistance Program grew out of my work as an educator in the Department of Student Affairs (CAE) UFJF. Inserted into the team of professionals responsible for implementing the Student Assistance Policy, the activity enabled me to question the way they happen in the institutional context, sociability among university students participating in this program. The relevance this study is to understand how young people construct their ways of relating and living in society, and face their difficulties from the established social relations, since these forms influence their way of being and acting in society.

Hledání současné výchovy / Searching for Today's Education

Fajfr, Marek January 2013 (has links)
The thesis "Searching for today's education" deals with a dynamic relationship between contemporary postmodern society and school institution, which is the heritage of modern period. This relationship is conceived in two different ways: theoretically by the approach of postmodern philosophy (represented here by the interpretation of works by Jean-Francois Lyotard, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida and Roland Barthes) and practically by the evaluation of high-school seminar Understanding contemporary situation that has been held for last year students of a grammar school in Prague. After the introduction and overview of past discussion on this topic the analysis of three basic values of modern school on the concept of indoctrination and neutrality were offered. Those values are education for the truth, education for the freedom and civic education. At the same time a certain tension between the truth and freedom on one hand and the civic education on the other hand occurs. In the next chapter I try to characterize contemporary society by plurality (de/legitimisation, fragmentarisation), relativising relationship to the reality (virtualisation, technologisation, medialisation), and problematising of the subject (problem of identity and marginalisation). In the main part of the thesis I interpret the...
