Innanför organisationens väggar : En kvalitativ och kvantitativ studie av organisationsidentiteten inom Nordmalings kommun / Within the walls of the organization : A qualitative and quantitative study of the organizational identity within Nordmaling's municipality

Hjort, Lina January 2014 (has links)
Nordmaling is a small muncipality that has gotten a lot of critic in media over the last two years. In order to regain a good reputation and to communicate a strong message towards external groups, Nordmaling have decided to develop a branding platform that can represent the organization in both external and internal communications. In order to develop a brand the organization must understand its identity. The purpose of the study was to examine the employees’ thoughts of their organization in order to be able to define the organizational identity and give recommendations of core values that the organization can apply to their brand. To understand how the employees perceive their organization and what they think the organization stands for, the main focus was to study their view on values, standards, goals and vision of the organization through focus interviews and a survey. The study is grounded in the theoretical framework of organizational theory with focus on organizational identity, culture and image. The social identity theory was also used in order to understand the process of how people create an identity of themselves and the environmentThe study showed that the management of the organization doesn’t have any pronounced values and standards, according to the employees. The result also showed that a majority believe there is not enough support for how they should work to reach the goals and visions of the organization. These and other result of the study, show that there is a lack of common understanding of what the organization is and what it stands for. Therefor couldn’t the organizational identity be defined and described. The study showed that a majority of the employees have a negative perspective on the organization which goes hand in hand with the organization’s image. Despite the fact that the organizational identity couldn’t be defined the result showed that the employees are aware of the weaknesses of the organization, how they can improve the organization and that they want to improve the organization in order to gain a better reputation. The conclusion were therefor that there are some core values that can describe the organization despite the fact that the organization doesn’t have a common understanding for what they are and what they stand for.

Vision och Verklighet : I globala organisationer med fokus på operativa enheter

Carlsson, Conny, Holm, Filip January 2010 (has links)
<p>The purpose of this study is to contribute to a better understanding of how visions could be applied in subsidiaries and similar sub organisations of global enterprises. With increasing globalisation it becomes more difficult to work in accordance to same standards and towards a common and unifying interest. The study has a qualitative and deductive approach and is based on interviews with three global subsidiaries with some hundred people employed each.</p><p>Conclusions are that the subsidiaries visions have to be based on a <em>guiding philosophy</em> issued by their mother entities and it is the responsibility of the sub organisation to develop a <em>tangible image</em> with a local vision, mission and strategy with targets requiring feedback. Sustainable strategies cannot be issued without a vision describing where the organisation want be in the future. Otherwise they will not come very far until they have to make a restart with a new strategy and they will never be a market leader.</p>

Improving New Mexico Indian Health Care System: Pueblo Core Values and Federal Policy

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: Due to the history of colonization, disruption of Indigenous life ways, and encroachment of external Western ideals and practices upon tribal peoples in New Mexico, the protection and preservation of tribal customs, values, traditions, and ways of thinking are critical to the continued existence of the tribes. It has taken many years for tribal communities, such as the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico, to get to where they find themselves today: In a paradoxical situation stemming from the fact that Pueblo people are told to pursue the iconic American Dream, which was not actually designed or intended for tribal peoples and that always seems to be just out of reach for many community members. Yet many of them do their best to emulate the capitalistic consumption and the Western way of life. What is troubling about this is that perhaps many of these people are starting to forget that it was the strength of their ancestors and their dreams that allowed Pueblo people to be here today. So, how do Pueblo people address this paradox? How do they begin to give newer generations, such as the youth, the tools to question and to assess future programs and the future of the tribal communities? Furthermore, what does such a process of preserving and reclaiming mean for future governance? Are these communities prepared to accept the outcomes? This compilation seeks to address these issues by examining a) the creation and delivery of Western medicine for American Indians in New Mexico and b) a discussion of Pueblo culture and belief systems. The exploration will include not only discussing health and health care concerns, but it will also engage the future considerations that tribal governments in New Mexico, specifically Pueblo Indian communities, must reflect on to ensure the preservation of the culture and values of Pueblo people. Finally, specific recommendations for action and discussion will be delivered in the form of a policy paper that is designed for tribal leadership and tribal administrative audiences and suggested for implementation. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Social Justice and Human Rights 2015

Pueblo Women's Knowledges: Voices of Resilience and Transformation in the Face of Colonization

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: My research focuses on Indigenous and Pueblo women’s knowledges and the role of our knowledges as they relate to the future of Indigenous and Pueblo communities. My main research question is multifaceted—what is Indigenous and Pueblo women’s knowledge, how is this knowledge communicated and taught, what changes have occurred to those knowledges over time, and what changes have happened due to perceived and real threats. In answering that question, the sources used for my research include the qualitative data collected from personal interviews with Pueblo women, my literature review, and information that I know or have learned from personal experience, including my knowledge as a Pueblo woman. My dissertation is in three parts: a journal article, a book chapter and a policy paper. The journal article responds to this question: How and in what ways have Pueblo and Indigenous women’s knowledges been impacted, influenced or shaped by colonialization? I contribute to conversations about how colonization has impacted, influenced, and transformed Indigenous women’s identities, knowledges, roles, and ways of living. My book chapter takes a look at definitions of Indigenous and Pueblo women’s knowledges and teachings from the perspectives of Indigenous and Pueblo women. The book chapter focuses on the modern day issues facing Pueblo women, specifically, how to ensure our survival and our Pueblo ways of life in the face of colonization. The book chapter focuses on Pueblo women’s teachings and knowledges as they are passed down from generation to generation. Those teachings have been key to our survival and key to maintaining our traditions, our language and our Pueblo way of life. The policy paper discusses my views on the importance for Pueblo nations to adopt policies that protect Pueblo women which will protect and ensure the passage of Pueblo women’s knowledges to future generations towards ensuring that Pueblo people continue to exist and be who we are, Pueblo people. In the policy paper, I also discuss what well-being or health means and how that relates to the importance of adopting policies to protect Pueblo women from sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking and other forms of violence that may be used against Pueblo women in our communities. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Justice Studies 2018

Värdegrundsarbetet – ett spänningsfält mellan karta och verklighet : - Ett uppdrag för alla som arbetar i skolans organisation

Sundkvist, Martin January 2022 (has links)
Background: Previous research, together with the Swedish National Agency for Education and the Swedish School Inspectorate, highlight several different ways of how to work with democratic core values in an effective manner. However, there is a lack in previous research demonstrating how other professions, aside from teachers, should work with these values in school settlements. This determines a gap of knowledge in how the school management team and/or the student health center can integrate the values within their work. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine how the democratic core values are integrated within the workings of a school – namely the school management team, student health center and teachers – to enhance the understanding of how other professions, aside from teachers, play a role in anchoring the values of the school. The main question to be answered in this study is: “which role does the school management, student health and teachers have in the work with democratic core values”. Therefore, the overall aim of this study is therefore to contribute towards the understanding of how a specific school is working with democratic core values. Methods: The study is based on a single case study of qualitative characteristics, where semi-structured interviews were used to examine the different approaches of democratic core values. The empirics includes five participants: one person from the school management team, two from student health center, and two teachers. These have been interviewed regarding their ways of working with, and anchoring, the values in the workspace, and if there is anything that inhibits their work of anchoring the democratic core values. Findings: The result indicates that the way of anchoring democratic core values differ between professions – although, similarities of attitude in approaching the values could be found. Further, for the values to be anchored in an efficient manner, the result indicates a need for the school management team to acknowledge the importance of keeping the processes iterative and continuous. In this study, it became evident that if the school management team ignore the importance of anchoring the democratic core values, it will establish various inhibitory situations that can antagonize the work with such values – thus, it is critical that the work of anchoring the values is supported by all the people working at the school together and approached continuously.

Värdegrunden i praktiken – Lärarupplevelser

McMinn, Cheryl January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to carry out a qualitative study of the perceptions of language teachers as to their role in the teaching of values and morals to pupils. Five language teachers have been interviewed about their perceptions of how values are taught and their role therein. The interviews serve to investigate the reality of teaching values to pupils in a Swedish secondary school and the work involved in this on-going process, this being with a view to having a better understanding of just how important a role the teaching of values plays in the daily working life of a teacher. Terms such as fundamental values and morals can be difficult to define as they are highly personal and can differ from person to person depending on one’s background, experiences and family circumstances, for example. The main values that are referred to in this piece of work are the fundamental democratic values and human rights as outlined in the national curriculum for Swedish secondary education (GY 11). It is insufficient for pupils to leave high school with a high academic aptitude and subject knowledge without having been guided by the school with regards to basic human values thus allowing them to develop into democratic citizens. Similarly, parents also have an important role to play when it comes to instilling their children with democratic values. Adolescents are highly influenced by the actions and opinions of adults in their immediate surroundings, therefore it is imperative that schools actively take a stand against and work to prevent all forms of discrimination, prejudice and negative attitudes that go against the school’s fundamental values. The results show that all teachers who have been interviewed are in agreement that teaching core values is a fundamental part of their teaching role. However, although they are aware of the National Curriculum´s guidelines regarding the teaching of values it is not a document to which they would often refer in their daily teaching role. Instead, they allow their own moral compass to guide them in how best to work with moral issues. Most of the teachers agree that it is important for teaching staff to have a unified view on how best to work with core values However, one teacher highlighted the danger of a combined ideology based solely on state doctrine and stressed that freedom of speech should still be respected. The teachers have expressed a wish to have more discussion, lectures and training about how to actively work with ethics and morals in the classroom. This is due to the fact that they are still unsure as to how to implement practical exercises involving core values into their lesson plans. They did, however, mention the importance of working with carefully selected literature, texts and films, for example, in order to put these moral issues into focus.

Tillväxt - möjligheter och begränsningar : En studie om interna tillväxthinder i snabbväxande företag / Growth - possibilities and limitations : A study of internal growth barriers in high-growth firms

Eskilsson, Malin, Sape, Theresia January 2016 (has links)
Background: High-growth firms contribute to a majority of all newly created jobs in Sweden. Recent studies have shown that these companies encounter problems and growth barriers as a result of their rapid growth. After investigating the study field of high-growth firms we found an absence of research that seeks to explain why they are not persistent over time. We consider it to be of interest to study the phenomenon of internal growth barriers.  Aim: The aim of this study is to identify internal growth barriers in high-growth firms through the perspective of the founders. In relation to this we examine how the high-growth firms undertake and overcomes these barriers. Completion: This study is based on a qualitative research strategy, with an inductive study approach, to enable an exploration of the phenomenon internal growth barriers. The study was conducted based on interviews with four founders of high-growth firms. Conclusion: The study has been able to identify four areas based on the founders' dictums, which had special significance for the emergence of internal growth barriers. The four areas can be developed to emerging growth obstacles if the high-growth firms do not consider their importance. This study suggests that the growth barriers most likely can be converted to growth potentials if the firms realize the importance to develop them.

Representation of investigative journalism on film: : Comparative textual analysis of two Hollywood movies’ approach to journalistic core values

Jauhola, Anna Elina January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation discusses the representation of investigative journalism in two Hollywood films produced between 2009 and 2015. The films in question are Spotlight (2015) and State of Play (2009). Investigative reporting and its practices are being discussed by using academic literature and previous research as the foundation of the study, followed by a discussion about the chosen research method: textual analysis. The textual analysis is conducted by concentrating specifically on three core journalistic practices of objectivity, use of sources and news values, and how these practices are represented in the films. The three core practices are teased out by using specific sequences from the movies in a form of images. The results of the analysis are then contrasted towards the existing literature discussed in the literature review. By using the means of textual analysis, the study found that both films are relying on stereotypes about journalism yet certain ‘reality’ about journalism can be found in these films. The journalists are in many cases shown as outcasts yet heroic figures who conduct thorough investigation and inform the public. In both films, the profession of investigative journalism is legitimized, and the journalists are depicted as the watchdogs of the society. Both movies lay much importance on the individual reporters and the investigation processes: processes that are rare in real newsrooms. This further enhances the mythic and overly positive, romanticized representation on journalism in films. As the study was based on textual analysis only, its nature was qualitative and interpretative. Future studies could include, yet not be limited to, adding another method and through this, to further deepen the research about journalism in films. Areas of research could include films produced in the 21st century and more specifically, films about journalism in the digital era.

Baumruková, Jana January 2020 (has links)
This master's thesis addresses TED, the global phenomenon dedicated to spreading revolutionary ideas worldwide. The aim of this thesis is to find and show correlations between interesting ideas from TED talks - under the tags 'education' and 'teaching', and their potential implementations among the Czech society. Through monographic method I investigate the most significant attributes/trends of the current crisis of the educational systems worldwide and their impact on a teacher - their role as a whole and the perception and acceptance of the goals of their work. These issues are addressed in a discourse about the changes in educational systems in 21st century worldwide and in the Czech Republic. It also explores the interconnections between problems in education and the state of society, its values and philosophical superstructures. One of the sections shows reader a compilation of categorize analyses of individual talks from TED based on their topic and content. The final part revolves around the most common topics from the talks that have direct connection to the current state of the Czech educational system which have been identified through educational research. The analyses of the talks are part of the appendix. KEYWORDS educational development, core values, authenticity, inovation,...
