Dialektologický odkaz A.D. Grigorjeva v kontextu studií o sibiřských nářečích. / A.D. Grigoryev's dialectological heritage in the context of Siberian dialects studies.Kipchatov, Mikhail January 2015 (has links)
The following Master's thesis is devoted to the topic of Russian Siberian dialects, which are based on Great Russian dialects. The aim of the thesis is to present and evaluate a unique and still unexplored source of dialectological information - the work of the Russian scholar A. D. Grigoryev Русские старожильческие говоры Сибири written. This manuscript, which is still stored at Grigoryev's personal fund at the archives of the Academy of Sciences in the Czech Republic, is an extensive work containing more than 1,600 pages, where dialectal features of more than 550 municipalities in 12 provinces of Siberia are described. Theoretical part (Chapter I) shows the history of research of Siberian dialects as secondary dialects, their main specifics and history of settlement in Siberia. A. D. Grigoryev's life and work are introduced in Chapter II (practical part), along with detailed analysis and description of Russian Siberian dialects from the phonetic, morphological, lexical and syntactic point of view, based on the above mentioned work with an indication of toponyms where relevant linguistic phenomena are registered. The Master's thesis is mainly based on Russian materials, which deal with the topic of Siberian dialects. The main method applied in the thesis is a descriptive method.

Die vertaling van dialekte : knelpunte en veelvoud van die volkseieClaassen, Vasti 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Afrikaans and Dutch))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / The principal aim of this research is to study the translation of dialects within the framework of the
translation theoretical framework and to determine the challenges and the fundamentals of successful
translation. This is especially important, since the focus will be on the translation of dialects of three
related standard languages: Afrikaans and English: Kaapse Afrikaans and German: Schwäbisch and
Berlinisch.
The prerequisites for the process of rendering these dialects accessible, is not to be underestimated, as
they include a sound and reliable knowledge of the standard languages of the particular dialects,
especially in the case German, as well as a at least two of the vast variety of dialects. It is furthermore
necessary to undertake a short but thorough study of the origin of the standard language German to
determine which influences it had been exposed to.
The relation and interaction between the author, translator and the reader are of the utmost importance.
The translator is subjected to demanding challenges; these challenges should not be under-estimated.
During the translation process the translator takes on the role of an interpreter and mediator of the
source text. It is imperative that the translator should be aware of the theoretical aspects of translating
as well as dialectology. These aspects are discussed extensively.
The two dialects, Mundarten, which had been selected as examples are Schwäbisch and Berlinisch
(from the federal states Baden-Württemberg and Brandenburg). Various aspects were discussed such
as the linguistic, traditional characteristics of the dialects, their natural speakers as well as their love
for and dedication to their own language. The translation of these aspects opens up a cultural world
that would otherwise remain unknown and inaccessible.
Numerous practical examples have been used, amongst which, a children’s story in rhyme. Translations
were done from German as a source language to Afrikaans and Cape Afrikaans as target
languages, also from Schwäbisch and Berlinisch as source languages to Afrikaans and Cape Afrikaans as target languages. Some examples were done from Cape Afrikaans as a source language to English,
German and Afrikaans as target languages.
Some cultural content and emotional value might be lost during the translation process, especially
when it is done across cultural barriers. It remains possible, however, that the translator will be able to
convey and communicate the message of the author in an accurate, convincing and sensitive way.
A well-known juvenile story by a French author was used as an example to compare nine different
German dialects. The German translation of the text has been used since the dialects under discussion
are German dialects and the original French text would have served no purpose. The text is still
translated and published in German dialects, although not all could be consulted. (Full details are in
the BRONNELYS.) Sections of the text are given in the particular dialect, then in German and in
Afrikaans (personal manuscript). This was done to indicate the differences and similarities of words,
expressions and idiomatic similarities with standard Afrikaans. Because of the volume of this chapter,
it was decided to include it as an Appendix.
Additional information is given in the APPENDICES regarding the large variety of German
dialects, the Germanic origin of English, whether Yiddish is a German dialect (as is alleged by a
publisher) and a light-hearted look at the skylarking with traditional customs of dialect speakers.

Variación dialectal del Quechua en el Callejón de Huaylas desde las perspectivas de la lingüística y de los hablantesJulca Guerrero, Felix Claudio 06 October 2010 (has links)
This dissertation presents a description and analysis of local variation of Quechua in the Huaylas Valley from speakers’ and linguistic perspectives. This research focuses on the comparative study of Quechua spoken in the Huaylas Valley, located in the north-central Peruvian Andes, which exhibits interesting variation in the phonological, morphological and lexical levels. For the analysis I have used methodologies of descriptive, comparative and historical linguistics, and methods of sociolinguistics. Thus, the study of Quechua language variation in this region in relation to pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary is contrasted and complemented with speakers’ perception about their variety and other variants.
Quechua-speaking areas are surveyed by grouping provinces, and are delineated on maps according to distribution of phonological and morphological isoglosses, and vocabulary as well as Quechua speakers’ perception. The two main dialectal areas are: (1) South Huaylas or Hallqa spoken in the provinces of Huaraz, Recuay, and south of Carhuaz, which is characterized, basically, by the retention of the phoneme /h/ at the word initial position. (2) North Huaylas or Quechua spoken in the provinces of Huaylas, Yungay, and north-central part of Carhuaz, which is characterized by the deletion of *h > ø at the word initial position. The division line is located around the Marcara river by the White Mountain side, and Huasca Uran ravine by the Black Mountain side, in the Marcara district, Carhuaz. Within each major variety there are other minor varieties, which are distinguished on the basis of morphophonemic variation of suffixes: ablative, first person inclusive, and the conjectural enclitic. / text

L'espagnol de Colombie, Projet d'étude sociolinguistique appliqué au lexique / Colombian Spanish, Sociolinguistic research project applied to the lexiconDiaz Martinez, Liset 02 December 2013 (has links)
Spanish is an international language made of several varieties, each variety with particular characteristics. There has always been the tradition of maintaining a total linguistic identity, based on prescriptive normative criteria that consider the Spanish of non-peninsular origin "corrupted". Peninsular Spanish is considered "common" or "general" Spanish. Spanish spoken in American countries is seen as a "deviation" from "the core" language (the peninsular Spanish). Many researchers now agree to give the same value to all Spanish varieties. However, many of the studies on American varieties do not come out from prescriptive tradition. They describe particularities, or differences compared to the norm set by The Royal Spanish Academy. This is due to the lack of a description of the common Spanish in the Spanish-speaking world, which could serve as a pattern for comparison. This lack (theoretical and practical) must be compensated gradually by new research. Spanish should be recognized as a diasystem; all subsystems or varieties must be accepted, studied in a more objective way and have the same axiological value. To overcome this established tradition, in this piece of research, we propose the characterization of one of the varieties of Spanish following a global and autonomous approach. More specifically, a characterization of the Spanish of Colombia and not of the "colombianisms" as is done traditionally. We prove possible to reach a national description of this variety at the lexical level by making partial descriptions in strategic places like big cities (departmental capitals of the country).

This dissertation deals with southern Bolivian Quechua and its linguistic, historical, and sociolinguistic aspects. At a historical level, I advance a model of relatively late (17th and 18th centuries) urban hierarchical centrifugal diffusion and an early Castilianization of the 2C Quechua variety, holding as the main center of diffusion the imperial mining city of Potosí. At the same time, the intersection betwen an emic (perceptive dialectology) and etic (variational sociolinguistic) approach results in the proposal of a sociolectal hierarchy between two varieties of Bolivian Quechua based largely on the perceived strength of Castillianization. As a result, this study of the Cochabamba Valle Alto involves two linguistic variables that are of particular relevance to the proposed structuring. The variants with low vowels from the plural inclusive morpheme Chik, [čeχ], [čaχ], formerly considered prestigious and once on the verge of imposing themselves on the high vowel variant [čis], traditionally linked to rurality, are now experiencing a strong setback as a result of the profound socioeconomic and migratory transformation of the last eighty years. At the same time, in production, the distribution of the rural [ʃa] and urban [sqa], [sa] variants of the morpheme of the progressive Chka remains globally stable. The proposed interpretation is that the lack of prominence of the variable stems from the lack of oposition between the alveolar and post-alveolar sibilants in Quechua 2C, as well as a phenomenon of near merger between the allomorphs in perception.

Estudo das características fonético-fonológicas da variedade falada em São José do Rio Preto / studies of phonetic-phonological features of the variety spoken in Sao Jose do Rio PretoAronne, Alessandra 18 February 2011 (has links)
Aiming to contribute to the characterization of the variety spoken in the northwestern region of São Paulo, as well as help understanding the linguistic diversity found in Brazil, the phonetic-phonological features of the variety spoken in São José do Rio Preto were described, using the theoretical and methodological references of the Labovian Sociolinguistics and the Dialectology. Twelve samples of speech from Project Iboruna database, selected according to the following social factors: gender, age and education level will be analyzed. The oral and nasal vowels, the pronunciation of the phonemes /s/, /l/, /´/, /r/ and /d/ and /t/ before [i], and other linguistic phenomena were analyzed. The literature on the description of other varieties of Portuguese language was referred in order to observe if the variants found in São José do Rio Preto are conservative or innovative, if they are peculiarities from there, or whether they are found in other varieties. The conclusion was that the analyzed variety presents phonetic-phonological features that are common in other lusophone communities, and if compared to the European Portuguese, it has some conservative features.

La vigne et l'olivier en Corse : études de géolinguistique et de sémantique lexicale / The vine and the olive tree in corsica : studies in geolinguistic and lexical semanticsTognotti, Aurelia Ghjacumina 13 December 2013 (has links)
This thesisis part of the Program calledNew Linguistic Atlas of Corsica and LinguisticCorsican Data Bank and more specifically in the preparation of the fourth volume devoted to agriculture.
