Distributing digital radio over an IP backbone / Distribuering av digital radio över IP backbone

Brunberg, Henrik January 2002 (has links)
<p>Factum Electronics AB develops and manufactures equipment for Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB). The increasing availability of IP networks has made the possibility to distribute the DAB signal, which is traditionally distributed over dedicated telecom links, over an IP backbone an interesting issue. This thesis investigates the possibilities to do this. Since distribution over IP is an unreliable service, it discusses techniques that can be used to eliminate the lack of reliability in IP. It also examines the advantages and drawbacks of using IP multicast, which would make it possible for many receivers to take part of the same signal. </p><p>During the work behind this thesis, a protocol was developed including features to make the distribution more reliable. A prototype application including a client and a server was constructed to test and evaluate the protocol. Implementation issues of the protocol and test results drawn from the application are described in this thesis.</p>

Integrating FM/RDS/DAB radio with digital HMI for usage in off-highway vehicles.

Myrgren, Dennis January 2017 (has links)
This thesis aimed to integrate a radio module, for listening to FM and DAB primarily, with CrossControl's display computers. The connection was done by converting the USB signals from the display computer to UART signals that were sent to the radio module. To be able to communicate a communication library was ported from C to Qt, and C++, which was used by a graphical user interface created during the project. This user interface aimed to keep a simplistic and clean look as well as making sure that the user could operate as easily as possible. The different radio standards around the world were reviewed and the analog standard FM radio and the digital standard DAB+ was chosen for testing the capabilities of the radio module, mostly because of their availability in Sweden.

Scalable Services over DAB and DVB-T from a Receiver Point of View

Almgren, Hanna, Vestin, Johanna January 2002 (has links)
TV and radio services have always been distributed over analogue broadcasting networks and been received on a TV -set or a radio receiver. Today this situation is changing due to digitalization and convergence between broadcasting, telecommunications and data communications. Other terminals, such as a PC, can also receive TV and radio services. Digital TV and radio can offer additional services such as e-commerce, electronic program guides and content synchronized to the TV and radio shows. If these services are to be received by several receiving terminals with different properties, the services must be adapted to the terminals. This can be done by scaling the services, meaning that the appearances and functionality of the services vary depending on the terminals’ properties. In this thesis scalable services are examined from a terminal point of view. Present and future receivers, platforms and possible methods to achieve scalability are presented, and their effects on scalable services are discussed.

Middleware for adaptive network connectivity

Waltersson, Roland January 2006 (has links)
As the coverage of modern wireless technologies expands, today’s mobile phones and PDAs often have a range of heterogeneous networks to which they may connect. It would benefit mobile applications to use the network which best corresponds to its need. However, making the handovers between networks transparent to allow communication sessions to survive is not trivial as the TCP/IP suite, used by most networking applications today, was initially not designed with mobility in mind. A Vinnova founded research project at Saab (together with associates1) has found that it could prove advantageous to monitor network quality together with the application’s needs and make intelligent decisions regarding what network to use. An algorithm for network classification and evaluation has been proposed. This thesis examined prerequisites and methods for implementing adaptive network connectivity through transparent handovers for mobile devices, resulting in a tentative model to demonstrate the mentioned research results. The prototype, implemented as a user space middleware, utilizes UDP encapsulation and a per-packet basis link evaluation, resulting in small overhead and fast context adaptation. Link monitoring ensures that server and clients are constantly updated about network quality and availability. The prototype yielded transparent handovers between networks, with short handover delays, at the cost of reduced performance for fast networks.

Lashab, M., Zebiri, C-E., Djouablia, L., Belattar, M., Saleh, Alam, Benabdelaziz, F., Abd-Alhameed, Raed 15 June 2018 (has links)
Yes / In this paper, a pyramidal horn antenna loaded with unit cell of metamaterial is proposed, designed and realized for L-band that including terrestrial digital audio broadcasting TDAB, GPS and GSM. The proposed antenna operates in the frequency range from 1.722 GHz to 1.931 GHz. The metamaterial is fabricated on a printed circuit board as Capacitive Loaded Loop (CLL). The work aims to exhibit the advantage of metamaterial loaded inside the horn antenna in terms of the gain enhancement of the radiation pattern and the resonant frequency shift towards lower frequency. The retrieval technique used show that the constitutive parameters of the unit cell as CLL have a zero index metamaterial (ZIM) from 1.34 GHz to 1.49 GHz and a near zero index of refraction from 1.495 GHz to 2 GHz, which is within the operating frequency of the horn antenna. The achieved results show that the total gain is improved over the frequency range. The simulation and the measurement are in good agreement.

Thermal and thermal-mechanical simulation for the prediction of fatigue processes in packages for power semiconductor devices / Thermisch und thermisch-mechanische Simulation für die Vorhersage von Ermüdungsprozessen in Gehäusen für Halbleiter-Leistungsbauelemente

Poller, Tilo 12 February 2015 (has links) (PDF)
The knowledge about the reliability of power electronics is necessary for the design of converters. Especially for offshore applications it is essential to know, which fatigue processes happen and how the lifetime can be estimated. Numerical simulation is an important tool for the development of power electronic systems. This thesis analyse the thermal and thermal-mechanical behaviour of packages for power semiconductor devices with the help of simulations. One topic is the evaluation of different thermal models. The main focus is on the description of the thermal cross-coupling between the devices and the influence to the lifetime estimation. The power module is a well established package for power semiconductor devices. It will be explained how the heating period of power cycles influences the failure mode of this package type. Additionally, it will evaluated how SiC devices and DAB substrates influence the power cycling capability. The press-pack is in focus for high power applications as the package short-circuits during an electrical failure without external auxiliary systems. However, the knowledge about the power cycling behaviour is currently limited. With the help of simulations this behaviour will be analysed and possible weak points will be also derived. In the end of the work it will be discussed, how the lifetime can be estimated with help of FEM simulations.

Multicast Time Distribution / Tidsdistribution i multicast-mod

Persson, Erold January 2004 (has links)
<p>The Swedish National Testing and Research Institute is maintaining the Swedish realization of the world time scale UTC, called UTC(SP). One area of research and development for The Swedish National Laboratory of Time and Frequency is time synchronization and how UTC(SP) can be distributed in Sweden. Dissemination of time information by SP is in Sweden mainly performed via Internet using the Network Time Protocol (NTP) as well as via a modem dial up service and a speaking clock (Fröken Ur). In addition to these services, time information from the Global Positioning System (GPS) and from the long-wave transmitter DCF77 in Germany, is also available in Sweden. </p><p>This master’s thesis considers how different available commercial communication systems could be used for multicast time distribution. DECT, Bluetooth, Mobile Telecommunication and Radio Broadcasting are different techniques that are investigated. One application of Radio Broadcasting, DARC, was found to be interesting for a more detailed study. A theoretical description of how DARC could be used for national time distribution is accomplished and a practical implementation of a test system is developed to evaluate the possibilities to use DARC for multicast time distribution. </p><p>The tests of DARC and the radio broadcast system showed that these could be interesting techniques to distribute time with an accuracy of a couple of milliseconds. This quality level is not obtained today but would be possible with some alterations of the system.</p>

Implementation of Digital Audio Broadcasting System based in SystemC Library

Moreno Martinez, Eduardo January 2004 (has links)
<p>This thesis describes the design and implementation of a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) System developed using C++ Language and SystemC libraries. The main aspects covered within this report are the data structure of DAB system, and some interesting points of SystemC Library very useful for the implementation of the final system. </p><p>It starts with a introduction of DAB system and his principals advantages. Next it goes further into the definition of data structures of DAB, they are FIC, MSC, and DAB audio frame, explained with MPEG and PAD packets. Later on this chapter there is an explanation of the SystemC library with special attention on the features that I used to implement the system. This features are the events used in the communication between processes and the interfaces needed for sending and receiving the data.</p><p>With all these points covered is quite easy for a reader to understand the implementation of the system, despite this point is covered in the last chapter of the thesis. The implementation is here explained in two different steps. The first one explain how is formed the DAB audio frame by means of MPEG frames that are wrote in channel by producer interface, this frames are readed by consumer interface. For this purpose I have created some classes and structures that are explained in this part. The second part explain how I obtain the DAB transmission frame which is obtained creating MSC frames, that are big data structures formed by groups of DAB audio frames, therefore there are some functions that act like a buffer and add audio frames to the MSC data structure. Of independent way there is the FIC frame that is generated of random way and its added to the transmission frame.</p>
