Coletti, Gabriel Furlan. January 2017 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The number of studies concerning companies' internationalization has increased in the past years. This increase occurs largely due to the adequacy of theories that deal with the subject to the dynamics of the service sector, and these were originally designed to explain the foreign investment of industrial companies. Such phenomenon occurs due to the growth of the importance of the tertiary sector in world economy and, mainly, the incorporation of several services in all the productive chains of the industry. These production structures accompany the international division of labor, with specific stages distributed by countries according to their productive competencies. This distribution was made possible, among other factors, by the decrease in international transportation costs, which led to an increase not only in world trade flows, but also in international tourism activity. Tourism, in turn, is an activity that requires several services, such as hospitality. The large companies that provide hotel services have also adopted the strategy of international expansion in recent years, but their dynamics differs from other service companies due to heterogeneity of the tertiary sector. Thus, this work intends to explore the explanatory capacity of internationalization theories, as well as the possibility of adapting them to the real market dynamics, considering the strategies of international hotel chains in Brazil. It is verified that the internationalization theories have lim... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Community, Nationalism, and Soccer in America's Heartland: Globalization and Postville, IA

January 2010 (has links)
abstract: On May 12, 2009, hundreds of Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) raided Agriprocessors, a meat packing plant in the sleepy town of Postville, Iowa, and arrested 389 workers. These workers, primarily Spanish speaking immigrants from Guatemala and Mexico, were charged with felony aggravated identity theft. This criminalization of immigration is a critical point in immigration policy in the United States, representing a ritual performance of the exclusion of immigrants from American society. In stark juxtaposition to the raid itself, the community of Postville was working to welcome the very immigrants that were targeted by ICE. In attempts at inclusion, Postville had created an adult soccer league that provided a sense of community and identity for immigrants. Using the classic anthropological method of ethnography, this research draws on extensive time immersed in the community of Postville to conduct a qualitative case study of the day-to-day meanings of immigration in the United States. This dissertation examines the adult soccer league and the ICE raid as examples of cultural performances of inclusion and exclusion by using anthropological concepts of nation, sport, and performance. Performance is used to mark national identity in both instances--a shifting, hybrid `transnational' identity in the case of the immigrants playing in the soccer league--and a clearly delineated `American' identity in the case of the ICE raid. Moreover, national identity is tied to other aspects of identity, such as gender. As the performances create national `imagined communities,' they also gender their participants and nations themselves. Ultimately this reveals the way that immigration itself is gendered, and the way in which American immigration policy is designed to promote an American national identity. These efforts are not only to the detriment of immigrants in the United States as laborers but also to the communities with jobs that draw these workers. The case study of Postville provides a lens to examine the meanings of immigration policy from the ground up and in the lives of those it impacts most--immigrants and the communities in which they reside. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Anthropology 2010

Homogenization or Heterogenization: An Analysis of Korean Newspapers Coverage of Women's Professional Golf Tournaments Held in Korea and the U.S.

Yoo, Sang Keon 01 December 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to find out how Korean newspapers covered women's professional golf tournaments held in Korea and the United States. Additionally, an attempt was made to ascertain any trends in the newspapers' coverage of players and activities associated with both tours. This study focused on one daily sport newspaper (Ilgan Sports) and one general newspaper (Chosun Ilbo) from 2004 through 2008. The two newspapers produced 1,699 stories related to the LPGA (n=1,234 articles) and the KLPGA (n= 465 articles). Thus, the newspapers covered the LPGA (72.6%) much more frequently than then KLPGA (27.4%). The newspapers covered the LPGA more in all three categories, with the LPGA receiving 79.4% of the large articles, 74.1% of the medium stories, and 68.7% of the small articles. In addition, the newspapers provided the LPGA more feature story coverage (83.9%) and more photographic coverage (75.7%). It is notable that this study's principal innovation is the finding of changes in the overall approach of the Korean media over the five-year analysis. Specifically, the coverage devoted to the KLPGA tour increased from 21.9 % (2004) to 36.13 % (2008) of the total coverage given to women's golf by the selected newspapers.

"Eu" e o "outro" : executivos expatriados e itinerantes vivenciando uma nova realidade cultural no âmbito profissional e pessoal

Wagner, Linde January 2009 (has links)
This is an exploratory-descriptive research, with the objective to understand how the expatriate and itinerant executives are experiencing a new cultural reality in a professional and personal ambit. The data was collected using an open questionnaire with forty executives from a transnational company (fourteen expatriates’ executives, eleven returned expatriate executives and fifteen itinerant executives). Content analyze methodology was used to analyze the answers given to the questionnaire. The results are presented in three groups of categories: twenty initial categories, posterior rearranged in nine intermediary categories and, at last, synthesize in three final categories, which are: the preparation for the contact with other cultures, the contact with other cultures and developing interculturality. The obtained results indicate the importance that not only expatriate executives should receive intercultural training, but also itinerant executives, which transit the different cultures of the various transnational company localities, need a cultural training to base the intercultural contact. This research also indicates needed characteristics of the itinerant executives and the importance of the previous knowledge of the local idiom.

MOTHERS ACROSS BORDERS: A TRANSNATIONAL ANALYSIS OF PARENTING BETWEEN INDIAN MOTHERS IN EDISON AND KOLKATA

Das, Madhurima 06 September 2017 (has links)
This dissertation addresses the central question- How are parenting methodologies across the sending and receiving nations shaped by larger macro forces embedded in economy and labor market forces? In order to answer this key question this project analyzes interviews with 59 middle-class mothers in Edison, New Jersey and Kolkata, India. This project contributes to the larger scope of immigration and transnational studies while placing them at the cross section of globalization of economy, labor market and education. The first chapter examines extensively the schooling systems in Edison and Kolkata and the ways it shapes parenting methods in these two locations. The key argument in this chapter focuses on the influence of the education system upon mothers in Edison and Kolkata and the ways they maneuver the schools. In the subsequent chapters I compare and contrast between support groups and community networks that help mothers in Edison and Kolkata navigate everyday child rearing challenges. The central puzzle that these chapters solve is: why immigrant mothers in an individualistic society resort to community and on the contrary mothers in Kolkata that belong to a more traditional society resort to commercial parenting schools instead of extended family to support everyday child rearing? The primary reason is embedded in the globalization of the labor market and economy. The immigrant mothers in Edison, who immigrated to the US as spouses of elite professionals in a globalized economy were confronted with the challenges of parenting in a foreign country. They resorted to community support to help them negotiate everyday parenting challenges. On the other hand in Kolkata the rapid changes in the field of employment an education had forced mothers to resort to commercial agencies for parenting support. Finally the dissertation concludes by returning to the central research questions and briefly states the central findings along with raising avenues for future research.

January 2018 (has links)
Acting on human subjectivities (in the "ego"), by giving them exactly what they lack as competitive agents: the motivational force of faith for social action as a successful entrepreneurial "business man", as well as for strength of mind To be virtuous and victorious in increasingly competitive markets, due above all to the radical sense of the idea of conversion present in Neo-Pentecostal evangelical communities. The power and power of the sense of the Pauline notion of present conversion among NeoPentecostals offer their believers a set of utilitarian and pragmatic responses to human beings who are immersed and submerged in the narcissistic and hypercompetitive societies of the "ego." It is the power to be born again, to wish to be another, by giving the converted faithful the expectations of developing self-confidence in self. Therefore, these are forms of religiosities interested in contributing to the happiness of the individual in this world, and no longer in an outer world beyond. And, for this ve... A trajetória de docentes no novo mundo do trabalho: resgatando algumas identidades /

Sousa, Vera Luísa de. January 2003 (has links)
Abstract: The association of teachers into a service cooperative is something peculiar and it results from work in a globalized world. The main purpose of my research was to understand how this process is happening. It's widely known that globalization course is definitely settled and it's deeply engaged to the reestructuring of the working world, bringing new organization, execution and work valorization patterns. The researched group, who had a unique condition - was part of a cooperative system -, permitted a very significant analysis about the interactivity between globalization and teacher/worker linkless. The provisory possible outcome indicates a displeasure sensation and an absent behaviour as a symptom of the changes on the teacher/worker level of subjectivity. It breaks out, on one hand into, a professional class and local culture linkless feeling but, on the other hand, it starts a powerful disposition to face up the changes building a rooted professional identity. / Mestre
