La problématique de l'enseignement technique et professionnel moyen au Gabon / the problematic of technical and vocational middle education in Gaboon

Abdallah-Bindang Edou, Laïticia 11 June 2015 (has links)
Technical and vocational studies have often been considered as a major element in the development process leading to progress, growth and modernity in countries such as Gaboon. lt is in such a state of mind that it was institutionalized and became legitimate with the law 10/66 which dealt with the general organization of education in the Republic of Gaboon. Since the EtatsGénétaux de l'Education Formation in 1983, the balance and perspectives of technical and vocational education led to a disillusioned view. lts biased effects are examined by the civil national and international society. Although, up to now the main benefactors such as the students and the teachers have not been allowed to speak up, it is thus the main object of our study. With their comments, on one hand, we shall view the main social features of the technical and vocational school in order to check its interest, notwithstanding the lack of favorable comments in public speeches. On the other hand we shall examine the causes of the lack of efficiency of the technical and vocational schools regarding the schooling, the process of graduation, the output and the insight of a teacher's career concerning his wages.

Escolarização da música: por uma potência musical ativa / Schooling of music: for an active musical power

Ferreira, Telma de Oliveira 08 April 2016 (has links)
The research is linked to the line of Education and Arts from the Postgraduate Program in Education at Federal University of Santa Maria and was developed by the research group FAPEM - Formation, Action and Research in Music Education. It aims to understand how music is educated and how the school movement influences that education in relation to empower the musical act of the students. It was motivated by a personal experience search for schooling processes that would increase the power of the musical act of basic education students from a public school. Apart from personal experience, the research was also developed in other full-time elementary school from January to June 2015, making it as empirical field for the construction of data. It is organized in four parts. The first outlines the methodological construction supported by guidelines linked to qualitative approach, bringing the empirical research field and pointing schooling of music as a phenomenon of real life, interpreted from a hermeneutic orientation (MUCCHIELLI 2004). The second presents conceptual bases of education from Masschelein and Simons (2014); School from Fernandes (2013), Masschelein and Simons (2014), Coêlho (2013; 2013b), among others, in addition to Spinoza s thinking that leads to the concept of power. The third presents the historical process of constitution of the School and the inclusion of music in this process, focusing on the meeting between music and Brazilian school from the legal guidelines that have subsidized the school musical education over the years. The fourth part elucidates the personal education experience of music that led to the proposition of this research and reports the construction data, observations and analyzes undertaken through empirical field. Also in the latter part is the analysis of the two experiences - the personal and the empirical field - from the concepts presented in the second part. It is based on the thesis that music, when educated, loses and regains power in function of the contexts and intentions coming from the school movement proposed by individuals who had constituted it. They is an interpretation of the fact that when the school tries to meet the expectations of a busy school from sense and organizational assumptions (COELHO, 2013, 2013b), the music loses power in order not to create opportunities to students empower the musical act.

French as a second language and as a schooling language. Theorization, description and didactic interactions analysis

Le Ferrec, Laurence 06 December 2011 (has links)
This research examines French as a schooling language for pupils with a different mother tongue, by focusing on the way it is taught in the French educational system by students who attend French "collèges" (the first four years of secondary education) in what are known as "classes d’accueil", i. e. special classes where these students are taught French as a foreign (or second) language. The concept of a schooling language, originally used about school teaching in countries where French was not the mother tongue, is central to this study and is analyzed in both didactical and linguistic terms in order to identify and define its components. Starting with a reevaluation of the way language is used in school, this research tries to map out the field in which the schooling language is applied and suggests focusing on the teaching discourses which are then described. They are akin to specialized discourses on the various school subjects but require a specific didactic treatment, in order to facilitate the integration of classes d’accueil pupils into regular classes for French-speaking pupils. The empirical study analyses a corpus of didactical interactions recorded in "classes d’accueil" and later transcribed. It uses the tools and methodologies usually pertaining to the linguistics of verbal interaction and strives to show how knowledge is transmitted through both formal enunciation of knowledge and its co-construction, in relation with the written material used to help the teacher’s discourse. This research has a twofold aim: to contribute to the study of knowledge transmission discourses and to the methodology of French as a second language within the French system of education.

Gustafson, Jörgen January 2017 (has links)
This thesis sets out to address the question: How is Swedish history put forward as expected identification in history textbooks for the years of compulsory schooling and how did this change during the period 1870-2000? This question is legitimate since the writing of history is a form of meaning-creation that is built through the merging of different components (place, time, actors, objectives, etc.) into a coherent narrative. The writing of history is therefore a form of power. The study include a quantitative total enquiry into all published history textbooks in Sweden between 1870-2000 aimed at compulsory schooling, as well as läroverk and gymnasium. In aim to map out and analyse the framing patterns displayed by the genre in order to answer questions about its characteristics and find out which have been the dominant history textbooks. These have formed basis for the qualitative investigation.   The genre has its own clear inherent components such as images which are used over a very long time and found in book after book and publisher after publisher. The genre of history textbooks has an independence in relation to current research in academia and equally The only time there is a fundamental change is after the 1950s and then the whole school system had been recast, but after a while the greater part of the elements under study returned. The results of the thesis point to the consumer side as being what largely upholds the tradition of the genre. A clear change is the significantly increased female representation during the 1990s. When the female representation is portrayed, it is more connected to traditional female values such as family than ever before. I argue that this is a consequence of the gender system’s logic of separation. When there is more space given to female representation, it becomes increasingly important to mark the boundaries between the female and the male.

Is this Academy a place where teacher agency can flourish?

McGowan, Neal L. January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with teacher agency and how this is achieved within the autonomous schooling model of England’s academies programme. The enquiry draws upon the empirical work conducted in a single case study sponsored academy (‘Bucklands Academy’ ) in 2012. The research was conducted in order to investigate whether the autonomy and freedoms afforded to one such school extended to the teachers working in it and how this affected their professional roles as classroom educators. The thesis begins by sharing my research interest, which relates to whether greater levels of school autonomy enhance the pedagogical approaches taken by teachers. This interest then develops towards the notion of teacher agency and asks the fundamental research question: Is this academy a place where teacher agency can flourish? The study sets out the policy context for academies in England, including an analysis of the historical development of state secondary schooling since 1944. It is shown that the continued ‘need’ to develop a new approach to schooling, eventually in the form of academies, started with claims of unfairness, discrimination and waste of talent brought about by the tripartite system of schooling established by the 1944 Education Act. It then analyses later concerns about the alleged failure of the comprehensive system to achieve its aim of raising standards for all children. The political contexts of state schooling are considered, and particular attention is given to the neo-liberal ideology developed after 1979 of ‘rolling back the state’, introducing choice and competition between schools and increasing the role of the private sector in the delivery of public services. However, the scope of the investigation is not restricted to the national policy context; the research interest lies in establishing what the key reforms have meant for teachers in the classroom and how this has affected the agency they achieve. A number of themes emerged in the review of key literature, including school autonomy, teacher professionalism, the policy to practice paradox and discourses around the academies programme. This thesis sets out a clear theoretical position, which draws upon the critical realist social theory developed by Roy Bhaskar and Margaret Archer. This approach offers a centrist alternative to what Pring (2000b) describes as the false dualism of the two epistemological positions of educational research. Critical realism posits that the world is real and that its structures exist beyond our understanding, but that our knowledge of this stratified world is socially constructed. Within the structure-agency debate, the ecological view of agency developed by Priestley et al. (2015) is adopted, which sees it as being context-dependent and something that individuals achieve in concrete settings. The empirical work within this study consisted of semi-structured interviews, observations and documentary analysis. The main findings from the research are that the case-study school had significant autonomy to develop its own policies and approaches to raising standards. However, this autonomy did not extend to any significant extent below the level of the academy sponsors and the principal. The school had developed a highly performative culture where teachers’ work was centrally directed and through which they were held highly accountable for the attainment of their students. It was found that the way in which autonomy was distributed throughout the school affected the agency of key stakeholders. The sponsors achieved high levels of agency, the principal achieved restricted agency and teachers achieved limited agency. It was found that teachers took one of two approaches to a new curricular reform being introduced by the academy sponsors. They either adopted it or used their limited agency to modify it so that it aligned more closely with their own educational philosophies. There was no indication that any teachers rejected the school’s reform, and it is suggested that this may have been the result of them subordinating this key policy to their ultimate concern of working in a school recognised by school inspectors to be highly effective. This thesis concludes that, contrary to the policy rhetoric, teachers working in one sponsored academy may have had less autonomy than those teaching in local authority maintained schools. This in turn affected the agency they achieved, which appears to undermine the original vision and aims of the academies programme. The thesis concludes by offering possible areas for further research which emerged during this study.

"Windows of culture : an analysis of Israeli ORT school websites"

Giladi, Michal 17 March 2005 (has links)
School websites are useful in providing an additional environment to educate and impart culture to the collectivity. They reflect the collective phenomenon of behaviour and traditional ideas, and at the same time, reflect the efforts made by the educators to teach cultural identity, values and social skills. The work of renowned anthropologist Geert Hofstede (1991) on cultural dimensions has contributed to the study and reassessment of current theories on software and websites, which interact with the cultures of societies in which they function, and are still relevant to the constant evolution of technology (communication tools) in the educational environment. The aim of this research is to explore how cultural dimensions are reflected on ORT school websites in Israel. This study in a relatively new field offers educators an insight into new options and innovations offered by school websites, and provides reflections on their use in cultural education. In this context, the importance of this research lies in its contribution to the pedagogical dialogue on culture, and as it is reflected on school websites. This study applies Hofstede's (1991) work, in which he classifies cultural characteristics prevalent in global organizations into five "cultural dimensions": power distance, individualism&collectivism, masculinity&femininity, uncertainty avoidance, and time orientation, and design expert Aaron Marcus' (2001) interpretation and application of this model to website designs worldwide. The subject of this study consists of 54 Ort school websites operating in Israel. The findings on ORT school websites echo Hofstede's characteristics on the reflection of power distance in Israeli culture. However, my findings on Hofstede's three other dimensions – collectivism vs. individualism, masculinity vs. femininity, and uncertainty avoidance – illustrate a more complex picture, with the elements reflected in differing patterns. ORT school websites reflect both elements of culture as defined by Marcus (2001) and elements of standardization of website design. In recent years, there has been an upsurge in the software available globally to create and design websites, all using the same basic tools and elements of design. In conclusion, schools' attempts to impart culture as part of their social education policies is reflected in the contents and design of their websites. / Dissertation (MEd (Curriculum Studies))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Curriculum Studies / unrestricted

Étude des changements phonétiques et syntaxiques intervenus dans le parler de Bagdad depuis les années 1980 / Study of phonetic and syntactic changes in the talk of Baghdad since the 1980’s

Al-Shams, Noor 07 December 2016 (has links)
This study reveals the sociolinguistic effect of Al-'aCz:amîyah dialect on Iraqi displaced’s dialect in the phonological and syntactic level of language. Iraqis displaced are those who have come to d' Al-'aCz:amîyah neighborhood since the 1980s to the present day. The study shows the relationship which links the sociolinguistic variables to the linguistic behavior by choosing four phonological variables and one syntactic variable as far as the three social variables of sex, age and education are concerned. The sample of the study includes 113 informants. These informants are considered the representative sample of the Iraqis displaced and the original inhabitants of d'Al-'aCz:amîyah. The quantitative analysis method is employed to analyze and interpret the data collected. The SPSS (StatisticalPackage for the Social Sciences) software can be used to help us process the data and assess the significance of this linguistic variation. The present study is structured in four chapters: the first is devoted to discuss the sociolinguistic context. The methodology of this study was discussed in the second chapter where we present our own way that we use in our study. In chapter three and four , we try to describe how the linguistic features of the Arabic dialect of displacedIraqis overlap and undergo interactions with the features of the Arabic dialect of Al-'aCz:amîyah, how these dialects undergo reciprocal influences within a specified time limit. So to compare the two population that of Al-'aCz:amîyah and that of the Iraqis displaced, we divid them into two chapters: in the first, statistical results that are displayed and interpreted show the phonetic and syntactic changes in local dialect of the original inhabitants. While in the second chapter, these results indicate the phonic and the syntactic changes in the local dialect of the Iraqis displaced

Les stratégies d’apprentissage chez les apprenants du FLE en milieu universitaire irakien : étude multifactorielle qualitative et quantitative à partir de questionnaires, d’entretiens et d’observations / Learning strategies of learners of FFL in Iraqi universities : qualitative and quantitative multifactorial study based on questionnaires, interviews and observations

Bali, Wadeea Younus Daham 11 March 2016 (has links)
We all have our own ways of learning. This peculiarity comes from many differences. Each difference creates a difference. The use of learning strategies constitutes a type of differences. Our study aimed to explore the learning strategies employed by Iraqi learners of French as a foreign language. Three main purposes are pursued. The first purpose is to draw attention to the concept of strategy in order to take full advantage of these tools to learn French. The second purpose is to develop a method for teaching and learning strategies. To that end, the third and final purpose is to determine the most and the least frequent strategies and whether their use is influenced by some individual and situational variables. The quantitative data was collected using two different questionnaires. The qualitative data was collected using interviews and classroom observations. Analysis of data received from quantitative methods showed that there was (1) statistically significant difference between strategy groups, (2) statistically significant difference between strategy use and sex, (3) statistically significant difference between strategy use and language proficiency level, (4) statistically significant difference between strategy use and antecedent academic, (5) statistically significant difference between strategy use and teaching method, (6) no statistically significant relationship between strategy use and language training. It also showed that professors (1) know little about the strategies, (2) have no idea about its teaching, (3) see the learning strategies as a learning method, (4) didn't have a scientific base in educational psychology, (5) suffer from the lack of a common base for strategies. Analysis of data received from qualitative methods showed that a little less than half of learners use management, planning and self-monitoring strategies, while others entrust it to teacher or institution. The most of the students prefer to receive knowledge from their professors rather than engaged in self-directed learning. More than half of learners use self-evaluation strategies to measure self-efficacy. This choice work well with the environmental competition and the relative intensity of tests.

Access to Better Education: The School Choice Experience of Families Served by Low-Performing Elementary Public Schools in Miami-Dade County

Severe, LeTania 14 November 2014 (has links)
Public school choice education policy attempts to create an education marketplace. Although school choice research has focused on the parent role in the school choice process, little is known about parents served by low-performing schools. Following market theory, students attending low-performing schools should be the primary students attempting to use school choice policy to access high performing schools rather than moving to a better school. However, students remain in these low-performing schools. This study took place in Miami-Dade County, which offers a wide variety of school choice options through charter schools, magnet schools, and open-choice schools. This dissertation utilized a mixed-methods design to examine the decision-making process and school choice options utilized by the parents of students served by low-performing elementary schools in Miami-Dade County. Twenty-two semi-structured interviews were conducted with the parents of students served by low-performing schools. Binary logistic regression models were fitted to the data to compare the demographic characteristics, academic achievement and distance from alternative schooling options between transfers and non-transfers. Multinomial logistic regression models were fitted to the data to evaluate how demographic characteristics, distance to transfer school, and transfer school grade influenced the type of school a transfer student chose. A geographic analysis was conducted to determine how many miles students lived from alternative schooling options and the miles transfer students lived away from their transfer school. The findings of the interview data illustrated that parents’ perceived needs are not being adequately addressed by state policy and county programs. The statistical analysis found that students from higher socioeconomic social groups were not more likely to transfer than students from lower socioeconomic social groups. Additionally, students who did transfer were not likely to end up at a high achieving school. The findings of the binary logistic regression demonstrated that transfer students were significantly more likely to live near alternative school options.

Une approche de l’activité de soutien adapté d’Auxiliaires de Vie Scolaire en éducation scientifique auprès d’élèves aux fonctions exécutives troublées / An approach of the adapted support done by "scoool ancillaries" in a science class, adressed to pupils with disturbed executive functions

Chauvot, Nadeige 29 January 2015 (has links)
Les AVS et les enseignants soulignent la complexité à accompagner et répondre ensemble aux besoins éducatifs / This research develops an understanding of the suitable adapted support done by “school ancillaries” (SA, in France, person contracted to provide support to special needs children in the classroom) and addressed to pupils with disturbed executive functions during a science class in ordinary primary classrooms. In order to characterise this support, five different theoretical frameworks where articulated. The first one, the ergonomic approach, studied the way the SA are dealing with their work environment. Researches in psychology allow to understand the concept of “heling to learn” in the case of the support by SA. The reference to neuropsychology allows discerning the cognitive disability and their possible impact on learnings in the context of science teaching. We based our work on research in science education in order to identify the specificities of pupils with disturbed executive functions in science class. The last theoretical grounds questions the notion of partnership between two adults in the classroom (teacher and SA) and research works allow to better understand this organisation. The method to study the support given by the SA was designed and the data collected (video, interviews). The main results highlight that the support of the two categories of professionals – teacher and SA – covers multiple modalities and can be characterized. Such support falls under arrangements of cognitive and didactical aspects. The pupils with disturbed executive functions make progress and do not show more difficulties than some other pupils of the class. The SA and the teachers stress the complexity to support and answer together to the special
