PersonalTVware: an infrastructure to support the context-aware recommender systems for Personalized Digital TV.

Silva, Fábio Santos da 18 March 2011 (has links)
The process of digitalization of TV in several countries around the world has, contributed to increase the volume of TV programs offered and it leads, to information overload problem. Consequently, the user facing the difficulty to find their favorite TV programs in view of various available options. Within this scenario, the recommender systems stand out as a possible solution. These systems are capable of filtering relevant items according to the user preferences or the group of users who have similar profiles. However, the most of the recommender systems for Interactive Digital TV has rarely take into consideration the users contextual information in carrying out the recommendation. However, in many recommendations the user interest may depend on the context. Thus, it becomes important to extend the traditional approaches to personalized recommendation of TV programs by exploiting the context of user, which may improve the quality of the recommendations. Therefore, this work presents a software infrastructure in an Interactive Digital TV environment to support context-aware personalized recommendation of TV programs entitled PersonalTVware. The proposed solution provides components which implement advanced techniques to recommendation of content and context management. Thus, developers of recommender systems can concentrate efforts on the presentation logic of their systems, leaving low-level questions for the PersonalTVware managing. The modeling of user and context, essential for the development of PersonalTVware, are represented by granular metadata standards used in the Interactive Digital TV field (MPEG-7 and TV-Anytime), and its extensions required. The PersonalTVware architecture is composed by two subsystems: the users device and the service provider. The task of inferring contextual preferences is based on machine learning methods, and context-aware information filtering is based on content-based filtering technique. The concept of contextual user profile is presented and discussed. To demonstrate the functionalities in a usage scenario a context-aware recommender system was developed as a case study applying the PersonalTVware.

Captura e acesso na produção, distribuição, apresentação e extensão de conteúdo multimídia / Capture and access in the production, distribution, presentation and extension of multimedia content

Cattelan, Renan Gonçalves 26 June 2009 (has links)
A) applications explore the ubiquitous computing paradigm to support the automated capture of information in live experiences and the corresponding generation of documents that can be stored, retrieved, visualized and extended along time. These applications are potentially capable of simplifying the authoring of multimedia documents by allowing the automatic combination and synchronization of information collected using personal and shared computational devices available in the environment. C&A applications also bring the opportunity for the incorporation of software systems that use such installed computational base to support on-going human activities, promoting new forms of collaboration and interaction among their users and enabling the recording of events, the generation of documents allowing their reconstitution and the sharing of the captured artifacts. This thesis addresses in a joint manner the different issues involved with the automated capture of human activities. First, the traditional vision is extended with the suggestion of automatically capturing not only conventional medias, but the general user interactive process as a whole, allowing the authoring and customization of interactive digital content and associated annotations. At the same time, collaborative aspects are treated with the development and use of a distributed communication infrastructure. Based on a peer-to-peer computing platform, the proposed components and services support collaborative activities and content sharing among users. The resulting systems and abstractions are experimented through their use in real scenarios comprising learning, mobile computing and interactive digital TV environments

Unknown Date (has links)
In the development of digital cable television, the ratings system evolves from the statistical based approach into full audience based approach. So the new ratings system can be more precise. Cable system operators will have all subscribers’ detail viewing behavior information in the new rating collection process, thus they can have more applications accordingly. The study suggests that the system operators could combine above information with other user information from their digital convergence business landscape to produce new advertising platform with personalized recommended capability. This new advertising model will be accepted and be used by existing advertising companies and advertisers. Also the study has elaborated about the partnership possibility between system operators and the new ratings system company, as well as the possible relationship change among companies in existing cable industry.

En gökunge i public service-boet? : Publikens roll i digitaliseringen av marksänd television / A cuckoo in the public service nest? : The audience role in digitalization of terrestrial television

Severson, Pernilla January 2004 (has links)

In a Swedish setting an audience orientation is applied to investigate public service TV in the ongoing development of terrestrial digital television. Focus is on institutionalized politics and public service TV companies Sveriges Television (Swedish Television) and Utbildningsradion (Education Radio). In a case study through a multitude of material, emphasizing policy documents and interviews but also including media coverage, it is explored how and why the audience is involved in public service digital TV development. Is it an operation in the public interest, and what does this mean for public service as a media policy principle? The empirical result indicates a complex and problematic audience, which is not constantly prioritized but always present. The audience legacy is threatened in public service TV by a consumer orientation. Concluding implications are on the one hand that feedback from the audience can not only be based in ratings and market analysis. On the other hand there is a need for an attitude towards public service legitimacy as utopian realism.

[en] AGGREGATE INTERFERENCE FROM WHITE SPACE DEVICES IN DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION RECEIVERS / [pt] INTERFERÊNCIA AGREGADA DE WHITE SPACE DEVICES EM RECEPTORES DE SISTEMAS TERRESTRES DE TELEVISÃO DIGITAL

MAURO VIEIRA DE LIMA 06 October 2017 (has links)
[en] The technology of cognitive radio has been researched for more efficient use of spectrum, since it allows the use of under-utilized frequency bands. Cognitive radio devices operating in the digital TV frequency band are known as White Space Devices (WSD) and use free channels under the condition of not causing interference above the limit set by the regulator. The UK regulatory authority, Office of Communication (Ofcom), published in February 2015, the first European regulation allowing WSD systems in the digital TV band through the support of geo-database systems. The Ofcom regulation defines a methodology to calculate the maximum WSD transmission power through a single-entry method for the maximum intersystem interference. Due to this, the aggregate interference of cochannel WSDs operating in the same region may exceed this maximum intersystem interference. In addition to this problem, it is verified that the Ofcom methodology does not define maximum intersystem interference by the same criterion of intrasystem interference as was defined by the primary TV system planning. This thesis develops a new methodology for calculating the transmission power of WSDs that solves the problems identified in the Ofcom methodology. The proposed methodology guarantees the protection of the digital TV receiver through a multiple-entry approach of the WSDs interference and, additionally, increases the WSD system capacity when compared to the Ofcom methodology.
