Strategic Dilemma With ERP System Implementation : Enterprise vs Consultant PerspectiveIDOWU, HAKEEM ADEWALE January 2009 (has links)
<p>Over the past few years and up to date, many companies around the globe have implemented Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Implementing ERP system in an organisation is considered as an irresistible challenge, with the typical ERP system implementation approach. In correspondent, management in an organisation are facing critical challenges' to make decision on a specific ERP system implementation strategy, however, any considered decision would influence development, testing and ultimately the success of the implementation. Therefore, this thesis aims to examine solution to how organisation can decide or choose the best ERP system implementation strategy and explore the one that could be highly recommended by considering enterprise and consultant perspectives.</p><p> </p><p>In order to accomplish the purpose of this thesis, qualitative and quantitative method of collecting and analysing data were adopted. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through the mean of questionnaire and structure interview. This is one of the reasons why this thesis can be viewed in an inductive and deductive approaches. To this end, exploratory and descriptive knowledge should be derived from this study.</p><p>Analysis of this thesis has discovered that, there are many influencing factors in which organisation needed to be considered when making choice of a particular ERP system implementation strategy. These factors include: (i) Size and Complexity of an organisation (ii) Degree of internationalisation (iii) Number of requirements (iv) Nature of integration and (v) Skills and Experience of people within an organisation.</p><p>In order to choose appropriate strategy for ERP system implementation, organisation should considered to implement a skeleton system in which other application can be added to the systems when it is in operation. Clarification of a business vision that would call for the legacy system replacement or re-modification, is also essential for an organisation to consider. Considering the above statements, organisation should be able to choose appropriate strategy that would fit their business processes.</p><p>Nevertheless, Phased strategy is considered as the best or appropriate implementation strategy in which organisation can rely upon. Exploring Phased strategy simply means that, the problem of making choice of a particular implementation strategy will be minimal. That is; organisations that are willing to implement ERP system can easily consider phased strategy as their best alternative in order to attain success implementation.</p><p> </p>

The influence on ethical behaviour of established foreign companies when entering emerging markets - A case study of two Swedish companies in Kazakhstan.Medetbekova, Tamila January 2016 (has links)
Background: Companies always look for opportunities to expand their businesses internationally as it is the way for them to grow beyond its current status. Nowadays, emerging markets seem to be very attractive in terms of economic growth. Thus, there is a tendency towards foreign direct investment inflows to emerging market economies. However, these markets can be very risky and there is no guarantee of success. Companies would have to be ready to face challenges and obstacles related to the unfamiliar environment. They would have to deal with the internal confrontation of whether to accept or reject the local rules of the game as well as to face difficulties in terms of maintaining a high standard of business ethics and promoting best corporate governance practices. Overall, the conditions of these markets can negatively affect the ethical behaviour of established foreign companies which in turn can negatively affect the reputation and brand value of these companies. This paper describes and analyzes the above issues through a case study of two Swedish companies in the market of Kazakhstan: Tele2 and TeliaSonera. Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of emerging market economy conditions of Kazakhstan on companies control structure or code of conduct, specifically how they can handle the internal confrontation and maintain a high standard of business ethics and corporate governance practices. Therefore, the tasks were also set to describe and analyze the entry process of two Swedish telecom companies into the market of Kazakhstan in order to improve the understanding of Swedish companies’ preparations, strategy of entry and operations when entering an emerging market of Kazakhstan. Methodology: The research thesis is based on the case study approach which uses a qualitative method to obtain the necessary data. Primary data was collected through interviews with the above mentioned two Swedish telecom companies in Kazakhstan. Secondary data was collected from e-sources. Findings/ Conclusions: In this research, I found that the best entry strategy for entering Kazakhstan is to form a joint-venture with the local partner, but if the company had an earlier experience in similar markets, then the acquisition strategy can be chosen. With regard to the ethical issues, factors such as a weak legal framework, a high level of corruption, poor corporate governance and cultural differences between Sweden and Kazakhstan as well as individual factors of all stakeholders including the manager may have a negative effect on the ethical behaviour of Swedish companies entering and operating in Kazakhstan. It is revealed in this study that Swedish companies manage to confront ethical dilemmas by choosing to “go at it alone”. To be able to confront these issues, companies should set their own bar for how to act as ethically and responsibly. Also, they should ensure the enforcement of codes of conduct, corporate governance, ethics training, ethical role model of top management and whistle-blowers policy.

Força ou consenso: a reforma sanitária brasileira entre o dilema reformista e o minotauro da saúde / Strength or consensus: the Brazilian health reform between the reformist dilemma and the health minotaur.Silva, Thiago Henrique dos Santos 02 December 2016 (has links)
The capitalist crisis that the world is currently undergoing, with the dismantling of the European welfare-state alerts us to analyze more deeply our country and try to understand the trajectory of its social policies, notably the SUS. If it is true that the strategic horizon of the Brazilian Health Reform is downgraded to mere administrative reform - but that would result in the SUS - today we realize that even this was downgraded to \"SUS as possible.\" Some limitations/choices made in the theoretical framework and political strategy are analyzed - not being the only elements - contributed to the removal of strategic objectives, including the so-called Dilemma Reformer. From the rescue of theoretical health sector benchmarks and Marxist literature in which they are based, fundamentally Gramsci, will be built-critical interpretation under the light of the process of its historical results, conditioned by the internationals policies arenas and the dispute of political projects in Brazil. It presents the hypothesis that the formation of a hybrid health system in which the private sector keeps the public sector trapped by its accumulation logic - to what we call health Minotaur - keep relations with the political strategies adopted, logically conditioned by dominance of finance capital and the structural limits of the Brazilian State.

Le dilemme humanitaire en Corée du Nord : l'expérience des ONG européennes / The humanitarian dilemma in North Korea : the experience of European NGOsOjardias, Frédéric 02 December 2013 (has links)
Any humanitarian action in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) requires the full support of the North Korean state, with which the conditions of aid distribution to the population must be negotiated. From this dependence arise many dilemmas and risks for the aid agencies, including whether by complying with the drastic constraints imposed by North Korean authorities they are unwillingly helping sustain a regime that is primarily responsible for the sufferings of its population and concerns that this may violate the ethical principles at the core of their aid efforts. This dilemma obliged several aid organizations, including Doctors Without Borders in 1998, to completely cease aid activities in the DPRK.Moreover, given the political and strategic importance of the Korean Peninsula, primary donor states of the DPRK tend to use aid as political leverage. This use of aid significantly affects the aid workers on the ground, who find themselves constrained and working in a remarkably reduced humanitarian space.Fifteen years after the highly publicized departure of several aid agencies, six European NGOs residing in Pyongyang continue to provide assistance programs to a population whose humanitarians needs remain largely unmet. These NGOs have adopted dilemma-circumventing strategies which allow them to work while adhering to their ethical codes of conduct and, thanks to constant interactions with their North Korean counterparts, to soften the severe constraints to which they are subjected. These strategies will be detailed and analyzed in this research.

Smrt v literatuře versus tvář smrti v dnešní společnosti / Death in literature versus the face of death in current societyPOLÁČKOVÁ, Ludmila January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis looks into the issues of death and dying. Based on a chosen work of fiction, it endeavours to remit the topic of fear of dying and concerns on the possibilities of how to deal with it from points of view of a dying person as well as that of an accompanying one. By using and connecting approaches used in sociology of literature and social work, it aims to appraise the benefit of reading fiction on the given topic for social workers in their professional as well as personal life. The work of fiction therefore serves as an alternative receptive material. By its interpretation, a social worker or layman can gain a more profound knowledge of current social issues, which the last matters of a human unquestionably belong to.

The area of study of emotional design explores the space of influence and contribution of design in the psychological sphere of users with the aim of generating design strategies that can stimulate certain emotions or facilitate their well-being. In this context, the starting point for the design process is the investigation of the user's concerns, an aspect that determines the dynamics of his motivations and emotions. The theoretical-methodological approach dilemma-driven design investigates a specific aspect of the concerns: its point of conflict, factor responsible for much of the emotional discomfort we daily experience. The method stimulates the generation of design strategies capable of balancing the conflicting concerns (dilemmas) of the users in order to facilitate their greater perception of well-being. The purpose of this research is to verify how the use of conflicting concerns can contribute to the design design process. For this, it was chosen a object of study characterized by their emotional conflicts: the experience of motherhood. The empirical research was structured in the qualitative exploratory nature and had the directives of dilemma-driven design as the guiding method. Its first stage consisted of a focus group with users (mothers) to discover their concerns and main dilemmas. This content was used as a theoretical substrate for the design process, composed of two workshops in which designers developed PSS (product-service system) design ideas, and one of the groups projected to conflicting concerns oriented by the dilemma-driven design method, and the other designed for multiple concerns with free methods. The results of the research suggest a new format for the dilemma (multipolar), capable of meeting multiple conflicting concerns simultaneously. In addition, it opens the way for PSS projects aimed at impacting several users, and the debate about the positive influence provoked by the designer-user on the design process performance.

(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The variation in floral size between plant species directly interferes with the degree of heteranthery and degree of hercogamy within the flower and may favor the division of labor between the anthers, reducing the conflict between plant pollen and pollinator. In this work, our primary objective is to investigate how the floral size modifies the pollination process and reproductive strategy in two species with contrasting floral sizes: Chamaecrista desvauxii var. latistipula and Chamaecrista nictitans. We hypothesize that the morphology of the larger flowers of C. desvauxii with evident anther dimorphism favors the division of labor, and reproductive security in these flowers occurs via pollination anthers. Alternatively, the morphology of the smaller flowers of C. nictitans does not favor the division of labor between the anthers and that reproductive security and pollen conflict are overcome by the predominance of self-pollination. Our results indicate that there is no division of labor between the anther sets in both species, although heteranthery is visible in C. desvauxii. Regardless of the size of the flowers, the different anther sets do not differ in visual attraction for the bees. In smaller flowers of C. nictitans, our results indicate the breakage of heteranthery and hercogamy into a more general system when compared to larger flowers of C. desvauxii. The small flowers of C. nictitans depend on auto pollen to achieve reproductive success, the same does not occur wi... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre
