Codes with locality : constructions and applications to cryptographic protocols / Codes à propriétés locales : constructions et applications à des protocoles cryptographiques

Lavauzelle, Julien 30 November 2018 (has links)
Locally correctable codes (LCCs) were introduced in order to retrieve pieces of information from a noisy codeword, by using a limited number of queries to its symbols, this number being called the locality. Three main families of LCCs reaching sublinear locality and arbitrarily high rate have been built so far. This specific range of parameters is of particular interest concerning practical applications of LCCs.In this thesis, after giving a state of the art for LCCs, we study how they can be built using block designs. We then give an analogue over projective spaces of the family of affine lifted codes introduced by Guo, Kopparty and Sudan. We exhibit several links between both families, and we give a precise analysis of the monomial structure of the code in the case of the lifting of order 2.The second part of the thesis focuses on the application of these codes to two cryptographic protocols. We first build a new private informatin retrieval (PIR) protocol from codes based on transversal designs, whose block size defines the locality of the code. Our construction features no computation on the server side, low storage overhead and moderate communication complexity. Then, we propose a new generic construction of proof-of-retrievability (PoR) that uses codes equipped with an elaborate structure of low-weight parity-check equations. We give a rigorous analysis of the security of our scheme, and we finally propose practical instantiations based on codes with locality.

Experiences with Exposure to a Distant Reiki Intervention during the COVID-19 Pandemic

DiBenedetto, Jennifer 04 January 2022 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to explore the use of virtual distant Reiki as a healing modality to influence the human environmental field patterning. Specific Aims: (1) To determine if it is feasible to recruit and retain participants (through expressions of human choice) to participate in a study comprised of two distant Reiki administrations on a virtual platform. (2) To investigate the preliminary influence of a distant Reiki intervention on pattern of the whole as manifested by participant response in stress and anxiety. (3) To explore the participant’s reflections on their virtual distant Reiki experience within the human environmental field pattern of their home environment as a healing space. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework is grounded in Martha Rogers’ Science of Unitary Human Beings. Design: This study incorporates a feasibility, mixed method design. Data was collected through pre and post intervention individualized interviews and two tools (State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Impact of Events Scale-Revised (IES-R)). Results: Described changed in pattern manifestation supported the need for home-based interventions during covid 19 pandemic. Quantitative response indicated a statistically significant reduction in perceived stress and anxiety (p< 0.001). Conclusion: The preliminary study findings support the feasibility of a distant Reiki and suggest that nurses, who are Reiki practitioners, may be influential in interacting with the human environmental field to promote change and foster healing.

Mining the imagery : A text mining and news media content analysis of the Swedish country image in the Guardian, 2010-2020

Tjellander, Axel January 2022 (has links)
In the field of public diplomacy, it has increasingly become relevant to develop analytical operations in order to gain knowledge on the perceptions of foreign publics and their attitudes towards countries – a construct known as the country image. In recent time, research on public diplomacy has been increasingly occupied with the impact of media on country images due to the continuous expansion and fragmentation of the hybrid media landscape. Academics and practitioners alike must navigate through large quantities of data and different choices regarding prioritization of sources and methods in order to find suitable analytical frameworks to properly investigate the country image as an analytical object. This thesis addresses these analytical challenges by developing a diachronic text mining analysis of the Swedish country image in the British newspaper the Guardian. Sweden has in recent years drawn attention from the international media, for example during the so-called refugee crisis of 2015 and during the covid-19 pandemic of 2020. In the extensive media coverage of these major events the Swedish course of action was met with a wide range approval and criticism. Using a mixed-method approach of distant and close reading, this thesis approaches the news coverage of Sweden in the Guardian through a content analysis designed in three analytical steps: topic modelling, collocation and concordance analysis, and diachronic corpus assisted discourse analysis. In each of these steps, the appearance of different dimensions of the country image was explored using a dimensional model for integrative country image analysis developed by Ingenhoff and Buhmann. The design of the mixed-method approach showcase how large quantities of textual data can be analyzed in a new diachronic approach, bringing strains of research from digital humanities to the field of public diplomacy.

Pagès, Lucas 04 1900 (has links)
This master's thesis explores the joint use of WikiData and Wikipedia to make an annotated named entities (NER) corpus : DataNER. It follows papers which have used the knowledge bases DBpedia and Freebase and attempts at replacing them with WikiData, a collaborative knowledge base with an active community guaranteeing its continuous growth. Unfortunately, the results of the process described in this thesis did not reach our initial expectations. This document first describes the way in which we build DataNER. The use of Wikipedia anchors enable us to identify a significant quantity of named entities in the resource and the NECKAr toolkit labels them with classes LOC, PER, ORG and MISC using WikiData. Thus, we describe the details of the corpus making process, including the way in which we infer more named entities thanks to Wikipedia and WikiData, as well as how we calibrate the making of DataNER with all the information at our availability. Secondly, we compare DataNER with other similar corpora using models trained on each of them, as well as manual comparisons. Those comparisons enable us to identify different reasons why the quality of DataNER does not match the one of those other corpora. We conclude by giving ideas as to how to enhance the quality of DataNER, giving a more personal comment of the work that has been accomplished and insisting on the potential of using Wikipedia and WikiData to automatically create a corpus.

Its main objective was to analyze the practice of a Teacher who followed an In-service Programme of Continuous Education aimed at teachers of English in public schools in the State of São Paulo - Teachers Links - in order to see what of the Programme could be seen in his teaching. The teacher s classroom data and interviews with the researcher were analyzed with the purposes of evaluate the contributions of the Programme for the research participant. The main theoretical underpinning for the research is: Vygotsky, 1998; Celani, 2000 - 2003; Celani and Collins, 2003; Nóvoa, 1992; Gómes, 1992; Freire, 1996; Halliday, 1994 - 1985 - 1976; Eggins, 1994; Eggins and Slade, 1997; Thompson, 1996; Martin, 1994 among others. The research questions were: 1- What aspects of the Teachers Links Programme are present in the teacher s practice? 2- How does the teacher use knowledge he acquired in the Programme? 3- What are the signs that the teacher profited from the programme in his practice? 4- How does the teacher evaluate the program? The data was collected in a Public School in the State and in the data base of the Programme. The findings show the influence of course, in the teacher s practice, as well the representation he built of the program. The results also raise some suggestions to upgrade programme Teachers Links / Esta dissertação insere-se na intersecção das linhas de pesquisa, Linguagem e Trabalho, Linguagem e Educação e Linguagem e Tecnologia.
