Enhanced dissolved organic matter recovery from saltwater samples with coupled electrodialysis and solid phase extraction

Chambers, Luke Russell 07 January 2016 (has links)
Complexities associated with dissolved organic matter (DOM) isolation from seawater have hampered compositional characterization of this key component of global carbon and nutrient cycles. Two techniques, Electrodialysis (ED) and Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), were combined to more effectively isolate DOM from salt-containing waters. Sample recovery was optimized and evaluated on a range of samples including coastal ocean seawater, open ocean seawater, artificial seawater from cultures of marine phytoplankton, and artificial seawater samples containing standard compounds of different molecular sizes and charge. ED was performed with a system optimized for processing 2 to 10 L sample volumes and SPE was performed using Bond Elut PPL exchange resin. With the combination of ED and PPL techniques an average recovery of 76.7 ± 2.6% was obtained for natural coastal seawater. Comparison of C/N ratios and fluorescence excitation emission matrices (EEMs) taken at the beginning and end of the recovery process indicated that the final recovered material was representative of the DOM present in the original samples.

Pennlöv, Henric January 2016 (has links)

Toward Visualizing Potential Policy Conflicts in eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML)

Rosa, William Domingo 15 May 2009 (has links)
The eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) is allowing enterprises to implement a standard way of access control to their resources. Security administrators no longer need to duplicate their efforts in writing multiple policies for different resources since a XACML policy can be applied to multiple resources. Companies such as IBM, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, and Cisco are already providing integration of XACML in their products. Although the introduction of XACML has provided enterprises with a better approach of commonly realizing access control, there are still inconsistencies that policy administrators need to be aware of. This thesis identifies some of the inconsistencies in XACML today and introduces a new tool that can be used to visualize some of those inconsistencies. This new tool could be used by a policy administrator to visualize possible conflicting data among a set of policies.

A Bayesian Analysis of BMI Data of Children from Small Domains: Adjustment for Nonresponse

Zhao, Hong 21 December 2006 (has links)
"We analyze data on body mass index (BMI) in the third National Health and Nutrition Examination survey, predict finite population BMI stratified by different domains of race, sex and family income, and investigate what adjustment needed for nonresponse mechanism. We built two types of models to analyze the data. In the ignorable nonresponse models, each model is within the hierarchical Bayesian framework. For Model 1, BMI is only related to age. For Model 2, the linear regression is height on weight, and weight on age. The parameters, nonresponse and the nonsampled BMI values are generated from each model. We mainly use the composition method to obtain samples for Model 1, and Gibbs sampler to generate samples for Model 2. We also built two nonignorable nonresponse models corresponding to the ignorable nonresponse models. Our nonignorable nonresponse models have one important feature: the response indicators are not related to BMI and neither weight nor height, but we use the same parameters corresponding to the ignorable nonresponse models. We use sample important resampling (SIR) algorithm to generate parameters and nonresponse, nonsample values. Our results show that the ignorable nonresponse Model 2 (modeling height and weight) is more reliable than Model 1 (modeling BMI), since the predicted finite population mean BMI of Model 1 changes very little with age. The predicted finite population mean of BMI is affected by different domain of race, sex and family income. Our results also show that the nonignorable nonresponse models infer smaller standard deviation of regression coefficients and population BMI than in the ignorable nonresponse models. It is due to the fact that we are incorporating information from the response indicators, and there are no additional parameters. Therefore, the nonignorable nonresponse models allow wider inference."

Petrologia do Granito Três Figueiras, sudeste do Cinturão Dom Feliciano, RS

Klein, Fernando Galvão January 2017 (has links)
The TrêsFigueiras Granite represents the occurrence of peraluminous granite in the southeastern Dom Feliciano Belt, representing a sinkynematic rock to the Arroio Grande Shear Zone. The aim of this work is to make the geologic characterization of the granite through field studies, optic microscopy, geochemistry and U-Pb geochronology. The granite is light grey coloured composed by quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, muscovite, biotite (M‟ 7-10), with garnet, tourmaline, zircon, monazite and apatite as accessory minerals. When affetected by shear zone, it develops a mylonitic fabric with subvertical tectonic foliation with dip >70° for SE and a stretching lineation marked by elongated micas and aggregates of quartz and feldspar, both with a N80°E trend dipping 10° ENE. On the milonitc terms the matrix shows granoblasticpolygonal texture, parcialrecristalization of feldspar and formation of mirmequite by deformation which indicates deformation temperatures of at least 550°C. Kynematic indicators like assimetric tails in feldspar and S-C pair define a dextral kinematic to this zone. The granite is classified as a peraluminous granite with A/CNK content ranging between 1.07 and 1.21 and normative corundum from 1.2 to 3 %. It has high SiO2, Al2O3 and alkalis (K2O + NaO) and low FeO, MgO and TiO2 contents. In Harker diagrams shows negative correlation for most of the major elements in response to the fractional crystallization process. An homogeneous source is suggested based on the relation between trace elements and ETR. Zircon U-Pb SHRIMP dating yielded an age of 585 ± 16 Ma, interpreted as magmatic crystallization an important record of Neoproterozoic peraluminous magmatism in the southeastern portion of the Eastern Domain of Dom Feliciano Belt.

Advanced Interface for XML Data / Advanced Interface for XML Data

Korchňák, Jiří January 2012 (has links)
Currently there are several interfaces for XML data, such as DOM, SAX, JAXP, StaX, .NET XML support etc. However, each of them has its advantages and disadvantages. This work analyses the existing XML APIs and identifies their pros and cons from various points of view. On the basis of the results a new DOM API for large XML data is proposed and is provided its prototype implementation. New API uses splitting method for input XML document to smaller ones and querying performs on these smaller XML documents. Finally, using a set of experiments the newly proposed API is compared with the existing ones.

Sär skrivning och andra coola skrivningar bland dom i Nian : En jämförande undersökning av svenska och finlandssvenska elevers skrivande i årskurs 9

Nikula Harrysson, Johanna January 2012 (has links)
