Pašto siuntų registravimo ir klientų informavimo sistemos tyrimas / Research of parcel registration and client information system

The goal of this research is to create a modern computer system, which allows to trace a parcel location at any time and inform the consignor by sending an email or SMS. The client can by himself on the Internet, set the period for receiving messages to his email or telephone. The software will send information about attempted delivery times for the parcel to the consignee and his name and adreess. The system comprises the from following subsystems – order management system, transport management system, exception reporting, track and trace, warehouse management system, data warehouse and connectivity – information backbone. The office of exchange manager needs to know if a registered bag was not received on time, without looking through information on all bags arriving. Client needs to be informed that important parcels arrived when they arrived, without having to constantly look for it via the Internet. The answer is the modern paradigm of "Alert" and wireless communication. At the basis of the system is a set of definitions of events, targets, physical units and messages – alert definition, display and messages.

Effects of Estimated Exposure to Cumulative Traffic-Related Pollutants on Asthma, Cardiovascular, and Stroke Outcomes in an Urban Area

BACKGROUND: A growing body of research has suggested that exposure to traffic-related emissions is associated with numerous adverse health effects including prevalence and severity of symptoms of asthma, hospitalizations for acute myocardial infarctions, and cardiovascular-related mortality. No previous studies have assessed the association between proximity to traffic and respiratory and cardiovascular outcomes across all age groups. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the association between proximity to traffic emissions within the City of Atlanta and respiratory and cardiovascular 911 Emergency Management Service (EMS) calls and subsequent emergency department (ED) visits. METHODS: Case and control diagnostic groups were established for 5,450 EMS calls received between 2004 and 2008 from residents of the City of Atlanta based on ICD-9 codes assigned within the ED. Case diagnostic groups included asthma, cardiovascular outcomes, and stroke. Gastrointestinal diagnostic groups were selected as controls. Cumulative traffic within a 100 m buffer of the call origination location was used as an indicator of exposure to traffic emissions. Using a case-control study design, the associations between exposure to traffic emissions and the case diagnostic groups were evaluated using logistic regression, controlling for potential confounding factors including age, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic status (SES). Subgroup analyses were performed to evaluate differences by select age categories, gender, and SES. P-values of <0.05 and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to determine statistical significance. RESULTS: Increased cumulative traffic near the call location was associated with an increase in the odds of an EMS call and ED visit for cardiovascular outcomes compared to the control diagnostic group even after adjustment for confounding factors (OR = 1.07; 95% CI ,1.01-1.12). The strongest effects were among men and individuals aged 40-75 years. Increased cumulative traffic was also associated with an increased odds of an EMS call and ED visit for stroke among individuals aged 18-39 years after adjusting for confounding (OR = 1.16; 95% CI, 1.01-1.34). No statistically significant associations were found between increased cumulative traffic and the odds of an EMS call and ED visit for asthma. CONCLUSION: These results provide additional evidence that proximity to traffic is associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes and stroke in certain age groups.

Environmental protections politics is formed by Agenda 21, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the Statement of principles for the Sustainable Management in international, Europe Union’s program for sustainable development in regional and Lithuania’s sustainable development plan – in national aspects. Total quality management and preventive environmental management principles are closely related – their essence is development of continuous improvement cycle with involvement of all employees of organization. These principles have the same goal: waste elimination or reduction. Total quality management defines the waste as lost time, including such indicators as inventory, number of defects and customer complaints; preventive environmental management defines the waste as pollution and inefficient resource consumption. Both total quality management and preventive environmental management help to increase profit and competitive advantage by implementation of systems approach enabling to improve economic indicators and to reduce negative impact on the environment. The main objective of this survey is to research the motivation for establishing environmental management systems in Vilnius service companies. Transition support for new graduate paramedics

This action research study explored the supports required to facilitate the successful transition for new graduate paramedics integrating into their role and to provide recommendations to AHS Emergency Medical Services managers to implement a positive change outcome. AHS paramedics who graduated in the last three years participated in a focus group and online survey. The study findings revealed that the transition experience was challenging and caused stress and anxiety for new graduates. Having a support system in place could increase job satisfaction, retention, organizational commitment, and enhance employee skill development. The study concluded that implementing a mentorship program with support of AHS leadership would prove invaluable. The recommendations reflect the importance of providing a healthy and supportive work environment and working collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop and implement support for new graduate paramedics in AHS. This study adhered to all ethical requirements.

O Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência (SAMU) é o responsável pelo atendimento préhospitalar (APH) realizado no Brasil que é aquele que se desloca para atender as vítimas em casos de urgência-emergência, funciona através de uma rede telefônica e pode ser caracterizado como um sistema complexo por envolver as centrais de regulação e as bases com as ambulâncias. Essa dissertação é formada por dois artigos que versam sobre o SAMU. No primeiro deles o objetivo foi mapear as influências do ambiente externo do SAMU metropolitano de Porto Alegre sob a ótica dos sistemas sociotécnicos. Para tal foi utilizada a análise macroergonômica do trabalho – AMT (GUIMARÃES, 2010) que tornou possível o entendimento da influência do ambiente externo no atendimento da população. Foi destacada na pesquisa a falta de conhecimento da população quanto ao funcionamento do SAMU, o elevado número de trotes, a falta de integração entre os serviços públicos, entre outros. Além disso, dentro da macroergonomia, a percepção dos fatores de riscos a que estão submetidos os trabalhadores é fundamental para que durante o atendimento realizado à população não haja dúvida quanto aos procedimentos seguros a serem adotados, para se evitar que possa ocorrer algum acidente. No segundo artigo foi realizada uma pesquisa identificando a percepção dos trabalhadores quanto aos fatores de risco. Identificou-se que os fatores de riscos como levantamento de peso, esforço físico intenso, calor e contaminação biológica por fluidos corpóreos dos pacientes foram os mais significativos na percepção dos trabalhadores do SAMU. / The Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU) is the responsible for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Brazil. The EMS system is that move to take care of the victims in urgencyemergency cases, it works through a telephonic net and can be characterized by a complex system that involving the central offices of regulation and the bases with the ambulances. This dissertation consists of two articles that focus on the SAMU. In the first article, the objective of the study was to analyze the influences of the external environment of the SAMU of the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre under the optics of the sociotechnical systems. In this study the method of analysis was the Macroergonomic Work Analysis – MWA (GUIMARÂES, 2010) that it made possible to understand the influence of the external environment in the attendance of the population. It was identified in the research: the lack of knowledge of the population on the functioning of the SAMU, the raised number of hoax, the lack of integration between the public services, among others. Besides, in the macroergonomics, the perception of the hazards for the workers is fundamental. Since during the emergency medical service for the population it must not have doubt on the safe procedures to be adopted, to prevent that some accident can occur. Therefore in the second article, a research was carried out to identify the perception of the workers on the hazards. It was identified that the hazards as weight lift, intense physical effort, heat and biological contamination for corporeal fluids of the patients had been those most significant in the perception of the workers of the SAMU.

However, its production is impaired due to various stresses including those of biotic origins. Cowpea Severe Mosaic Virus (CPSMV) infects cowpeas leading to severe symptoms and low productivity. Several studies of plant-virus interaction show that seed treatment with Ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS, chemical mutagen), results in a resistant phenotype in plants, which was previously susceptibility, to virus infection of the Potyvirus genus. The aim of this study was to investigate some physiological and biochemical parameters of a susceptible cowpea cultivar (CPI) (CE-31, sin. Pitiuba) in comparison with its derived resistant mutagenized (MCPI), both infected with CPSMV. MCPI plantlets were obtained after treatment of CE-31 seeds with 0.04% EMS. Two different approaches were used in this study: 1) biochemical (antioxidant enzymes and H2O2 content, PR-proteins and secondary metabolites) and physiological analysis (photosynthetic parameters and chlorophyll content); and 2) Label free quantitative proteomic approach (LC-ESI-MS / MS) to identify proteins responsive to viral infection. Our results showed that MCPI had no symptoms of CPSMV infection and biochemical (high H2O2, PR-proteins and secondary compounds [phenolic and lignin]) and physiological responses (High photosynthesis index and chlorophyll content) is activated in MCPI plantlets after CPSMV inoculation. With regard to proteomic analysis, 99 proteins were differentially represented, where these 68 are up- and 31 down represented in MCPI compared to CPI. Regardless whether to CPI (susceptible) or MCPI (mutagenized resistant) plantlets, CPSMV induce changes in proteome profile that involve several biological process (energy and metabolism, photosynthesis, response to stress, oxidative burst, and scavenging). Moreover, these results suggest that the CPSMV responsive proteins in the MCPI represent a complex network involving in resistant mechanisms to CPSMV. Treatment of the susceptible CE-31 genotype seeds with the mutagenic agent EMS induced genomic alterations generating a cowpea mutagenized resistant to CPSMV by apparently inducing classical biochemical and physiological responses against infection. / O feijão-de-corda tem grande importância socioeconômica no Nordeste brasileiro. Entretanto, sua produção é baixa devido a diversos fatores bióticos, como, por exemplo, o vírus do mosaico severo do caupí (CPSMV, gênero Comovirus), que apresenta grande destaque, por causar a virose que mais acomete essa cultura no país. No estudo da interação planta-vírus, diversos trabalhos mostram que o tratamento de sementes com o etil metanosulfonato (EMS, mutagênico químico) resulta no fenótipo de resistência em plantas que, anteriormente, apresentavam susceptibilidade à infecção por vírus do gênero Potyvirus. Por essa razão, o presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar as respostas de defesa bioquímicas e fisiológicas das plantas de feijão-de-corda do genótipo (CE-31) susceptível ao CPSMV (CPI) a partir de sementes tratadas com EMS (0,04% v/v), e avaliar se as plantas mutagenizadas (MCPI), produzidas a partir dessas sementes se tornaram resistentes ao CPSMV. Duas diferentes abordagens foram utilizadas neste trabalho: 1) análises bioquímicas (enzimas antioxidantes e conteúdo de H2O2, PR-proteínas e compostos secundários) e fisiológicas (parâmetros fotossintéticos e teor de clorofila); 2) abordagem proteômica quantitativa (LC-ESI-MS/MS), livre de marcação, para identificar proteínas responsivas à infecção viral. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que as plantas MCPI são capazes de induzir respostas bioquímicas (aumento de H2O2, indução de PR-proteínas e aumento no conteúdo de compostos secundários) e alterações nos parâmetros fisiológicos (alta taxa fotossintética e teor de clorofila) que, aparentemente, têm relação com o fenótipo de resistência das plantas mutagenizadas ao CPSMV. Na análise proteômica, 99 proteínas foram identificadas como sendo diferenciais, das quais 68 aumentaram e 31 diminuíram em abundância nas plantas MCPI em relação as plantas CPI. A análise proteômica, mostrou diversas vias metabólicas (Metabolismo Redox, Energia e Metabolismo, Fotossíntese, Metabolismo de RNA e Defesa) envolvidas nas respostas de defesa das plantas MCPI frente a infecção viral. O tratamento das sementes com o EMS, resultou em plantas de feijão-de-corda com fenótipo de resistência capazes de acionar mecanismos de defesa para impedir a infeção viral.

Optimal energy management strategy for a fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle

The Energy Management Strategy (EMS) has a huge effect on the performance of any hybrid vehicle because it determines the operating point of almost every component associated with the powertrain. This means that its optimisation is an incredibly complex task which must consider a number of objectives including the fuel consumption, drive-ability, component degradation and straight-line performance. The EMS is of particular importance for Fuel Cell Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FCHEVs), not only to minimise the fuel consumption, but also to reduce the electrical stress on the fuel cell and maximise its useful lifetime. This is because the durability and cost of the fuel cell stack is one of the major obstacles preventing FCHEVs from being competitive with conventional vehicles. In this work, a novel EMS is developed, specifcally for Fuel Cell Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FCHEVs), which considers not only the fuel consumption, but also the degradation of the fuel cell in order to optimise the overall running cost of the vehicle. This work is believed to be the first of its kind to quantify effect of decisions made by the EMS on the fuel cell degradation, inclusive of multiple causes of voltage degradation. The performance of this new strategy is compared in simulation to a recent strategy from the literature designed solely to optimise the fuel consumption. It is found that the inclusion of the degradation metrics results in a 20% increase in fuel cell lifetime for only a 3.7% increase in the fuel consumption, meaning that the overall running cost is reduced by 9%. In addition to direct implementation on board a vehicle, this technique for optimising the degradation alongside the fuel consumption also allows alternative vehicle designs to be compared in an unbiased way. In order to demonstrate this, the novel optimisation technique is subsequently used to compare alternative system designs in order to identify the optimal economic sizing of the fuel cell and battery pack. It is found that the overall running cost can be minimised by using the smallest possible fuel cell stack that will satisfy the average power requirement of the duty cycle, and by using an oversized battery pack to maximise the fuel cell effciency and minimise the transient loading on the stack. This research was undertaken at Loughborough University as part of the Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) in Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Their Applications in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Nottingham University and with sponsorship from HORIBA-MIRA (Nuneaton, UK). A Microcab H4 test vehicle has been made available for use in testing for this research which was previously used for approximately 2 years at the University of Birmingham. The Microcab H4 is a small campus based vehicle designed for passenger transport and mail delivery at low speeds as seen on a university campus. It has a top speed of approximately 30mph, and is fitted with a 1.2kW fuel cell and a 2kWh battery pack.

DEVELOPMENT OF CHEMICALLY MUTAGENIZED SOYBEAN POPULATIONS FOR IMPROVING SOYBEAN SEED OIL CONTENT AND FORWARD AND REVERSE GENETICS SCREENING

Soybeans are among seeds the common plant foods that contains high protein contents and high oil. The protein provides about 35 to 38 percent of the seeds calories compared to around 20 to 30 percent in other legumes and many animal products. The quality of soy protein is notable and approaches the quality of meat and milk. Unlike many other good sources of protein, soybeans are low in saturated fat and are cholesterol-free. Its proteins provide all the important amino acids, most the amounts needed by humans (NSRL, 2010). As the most consumed vegetable oil in the world, soybean oil has been used substantially in the food industry (Soystats, 2010). Its utilization is determined by its fatty acid composition, with commodity soybean oil typically 13% palmatic acid (16:0), 4% stearic acid (18:0), 20% oleic acid (18:1), 55% linoleic acid (18:2), and 8% linolenic acid (18:3). The change of fatty acid profiles to improve soybean oil quality has been a long time goal of many researchers throughout the world. Biodiesel is an up and coming trend in energy production. Breeding effort can be undertaken in order to produce a higher energy profile soybean oil. Using ethyl-methanesulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis effects on DNA, significant changes to the genes and gene network underlying the protein and oil profile can be achieved. These changes are hard to accomplish using standard breeding techniques. In addition, high amount of linolenic and stearic acid are very important for fuel and biodiesel production, but are not good for food production due to the fact that such oil is oxidized easily and the food goes rancid quickly. However, soybean oil with elevated amount of oleic acid is desirable for food, because this monounsaturated fatty acid improves the nutrition and oxidative stability of soybean oil compared to other oils. In order to improve the quality of soybean oil and processed foods, chemically mutagenized soybeans have been developed in this project. Seeds harvested from individual M3 and M4 plants (from 2 successive years 2012 and 2013) were analyzed for protein content, oil composition, and content. Moreover, seven phenotypic traits including oil analysis (stearic, palmitic, oleic, linolenic and linoleic), seed protein content, weight of the seeds (High yield), seeds color, stem length, germination rates, and branch architecture were collected and analyzed in this project of soybean `Forrest' mutagenized population. The result of this research showed that there were 25 significantly different lines (p< 0.05) compare to the wild type, which is useful for developing mutants with altered oil and fatty acid compositions in soybean.

ON THE PATHOGENESIS OF SOYBEAN CYST NEMATODE AND MECHANISMS OF RESISTANCE BY SOYBEAN

Soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe, is the most devastating pathogen of soybeans, Glycine max (L.) Merr., causing over $1 billion in yield losses annually in the United States alone. Currently, planting of genetically resistant cultivars is the most commonly employed management strategy. Due to an overuse of genetic resistance derived from the soybean variety ‘PI 88788’, many populations of soybean cyst nematodes are becoming virulent on previously resistant cultivars, urging the understanding and discovery of alternative mechanisms of SCN resistance. In this study, we will delve into the history and epidemiology of Heterodera glycines, learn about the molecular etiology underlying SCN pathogenesis, begin to understand the mechanism of resistance by Peking-type soybeans, and look to discover a novel mechanism of resistance by establishment of a mutagenized population of the soybean variety ‘PI 567516C’.
