A longing for community : A study about the entrance process into the Pentecostal Church

Selmane, Fabian January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to depict the entrance process into the Pentecostal church and compare it with three different models of the entrance process into religious organizations too se if there are any similarities. The purpose is also to see if there are any similarities between the informants in their entrance process, and which strengths and weaknesses the three models have, when utilized on the entrance process into the Pentecostal church. The results indicates that there are some similarities between the informant´s entrance process into the Pentecostal church, such as the contact the informants have with the Pentecostal church during their entrance process and the context the informant´s was situated in. There are also some similarities before joining, such as the engagement in religion and the longing after a community. The similarities with the three models indicate that they show most similarities with the model that John R. Rambo has created over the entrance process. The strength and weaknesses of the three models are varying, with all three models showing some strenghts and weaknesses. Some steps in the models could also be considered neutral, when compared to the entrance process into the Pentecostal church. One factor that contributes to the weaknesses of the models is the empiric material that the models are based on. / <p>Inga anmärkningar</p>

Autonomous Vehicle Social Behavior for Highway Driving

Wei, Junqing 01 May 2017 (has links)
In recent years, autonomous driving has become an increasingly practical technology. With state-of-the-art computer and sensor engineering, autonomous vehicles may be produced and widely used for travel and logistics in the near future. They have great potential to reduce traffic accidents, improve transportation efficiency, and release people from driving tasks while commuting. Researchers have built autonomous vehicles that can drive on public roads and handle normal surrounding traffic and obstacles. However, in situations like lane changing and merging, the autonomous vehicle faces the challenge of performing smooth interaction with human-driven vehicles. To do this, autonomous vehicle intelligence still needs to be improved so that it can better understand and react to other human drivers on the road. In this thesis, we argue for the importance of implementing ”socially cooperative driving”, which is an integral part of everyday human driving, in autonomous vehicles. An intention-integrated Prediction- and Cost function-Based algorithm (iPCB) framework is proposed to enable an autonomous vehicles to perform cooperative social behaviors. We also propose a behavioral planning framework to enable the socially cooperative behaviors with the iPCB algorithm. The new architecture is implemented in an autonomous vehicle and can coordinate the existing Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Centering interface to perform socially cooperative behaviors. The algorithm has been tested in over 500 entrance ramp and lane change scenarios on public roads in multiple cities in the US and over 10; 000 in simulated case and statistical testing. Results show that the proposed algorithm and framework for autonomous vehicle improves the performance of autonomous lane change and entrance ramp handling. Compared with rule-based algorithms that were previously developed on an autonomous vehicle for these scenarios, over 95% of potentially unsafe situations are avoided.

The Relationship of School Entrance Age to Sociometric Status, Mental Health, and School Attitudes in Intellectually Superior Children

Stokes, Elizabeth H. 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study consists of two phases: 1) to determine the relationship of a) sociometric status, and b) mental health, to intellectual level in a selected sample of sixth-grade children who entered school before the age of six; and 2) to determine the relationship of a) sociometric status, b) mental health, and c) attitudes toward school to the school entrance age in a selected sample of intellectually superior fifth and sixth-grade children who entered school at different ages.

Measurement of Fluid and Particle Transport through Narrow Passages

Ghazi, Christopher 01 January 2014 (has links)
There are many instances where fluid and particles traveling through a narrow passage, such as a crack in a window or door, have large but sometimes unseen effects on our daily lives. For instance, in the cold months of the year a pressure gradient can exists between the inside and outside of a building which causes cold, outdoor air to flow inside through any cracks; significantly decreasing heating efficiency. This inflow of atmospheric air can bring with it dangerous contaminant particles to the inside of a building. Pollution can also occur inside a structure from internal sources of contamination, such as smoke generation from a fire. This thesis represents a two-fold examination of these phenomena. The first part of the thesis showcases a method for local measurement of air leakage flow rate, which can be used to quickly assess leakage rates across a surface, such as a window. The method uses a small local enclosure with constant volume placed about a region on the structure under investigation, which is depressurized and injected with a small concentration of carbon dioxide as a tracer gas. The time variation of the pressure and carbon dioxide concentration inside the enclosure are monitored and used to quantify the leakage flow rate as a function of pressure difference. Because of the small size of the enclosure, advanced data processing techniques are necessary to reduce uncertainty in determination of the rate of change of the carbon dioxide concentration that arises from sensor variability. Results of a laboratory demonstration of the proposed leakage detection and characterization device are reported for the problem of leakage through a circular hole in a plate with prescribed pressure differences. Experimental results from the laboratory tests are found to be in excellent agreement with results of a numerical simulation of leakage flow through a hole, as well as predictions from a number of empirical equations for this problem found in the literature. The second part of the thesis is a numerical study of particle capture in the entrance region of a crack, which is a phenomenon previously not well understood or accounted for in empirical correlations. The computational domain for laminar flow through a crack consists of the crack channel and both inlet and exit reservoirs that are much larger than the channel width. The simulations examined different mechanisms for particle capture within the channel entrance region, including collision on the inlet reservoir wall just outside the crack channel, collision within the crack channel due to cross-stream inertia imparted by the entrance flow, collision induced by Brownian diffusion both on the inlet reservoir wall outside of the channel and within the channel, and gravitational collision within the channel. A detailed study of the variation of the entrance penetration factor with parameters such as the Stokes, Peclet, and Froude numbers was performed, and comparison of the numerical predictions with different theoretical expressions were made when the latter were available. Validity of the assumption of penetration factor independence was also examined for cases where both entrance region inertia and gravitational settling are significant.

L'entrance des écrivains africains et caribéens dans le système littéraire francophone : les oeuvres d'Alain Mabanckou et de Dany Laferrière dans les champs français et québécois / The entrance of the African and Caribbean writers in the French-speaking literary system : the works of Alain Mabanckou and Dany Laferrière in the literary fields French and from Quebec

Ndombi-Sow, Gaël 23 November 2012 (has links)
If it is admitted that the field theory, systematized by Pierre Bourdieu, allowed to renew the approach of the literary phenomenon, its application in the field of the Frenchspeaking studies remains limited. This study examines the conditions of access to the French and Quebec French literary fields by the writers of African and Caribbean origin. The thesis proceeds to a sociological approach - the analysis leaning on the examination of the individual trajectories, the poetics of the works and the communications strategies of the authors - of the conditions of access to the writing, the publication, the literary socialization and the consecration in each of the fields of reception, that is the policy of reception of the legitimizing authorities and the place reserved for these migrant writings. An essential option consisted in approaching writers whose status and audience are already asserted on the French-speaking literary scene. For this purpose, the corpus is made up of two writers indisputably recognized : the former, Alain Mabanckou, especially present in the French field; the latter, Dany Laferrière, especially recognized in the Quebec French field. The comparison between the French and Quebec French fields ended in a new conception of the phenomena of entrance, by highlighting the positions, the postures and the writing strategies deployed.
