O presente trabalho versa sobre a possibilidade de redução de custos com a utilização de modais de transportes alternativos ao rodoviário, como o ferroviário e o hidroviário, para a obtenção de areia e brita, agregados para a construção civil de baixo preço, que têm volume de consumo bastante elevado, para sua disponibilização na cidade de São Paulo. As atividades de mineração assim como as demais atividades econômicas na era da globalização têm suas operações bastante semelhantes a níveis de custo, com pouca ou nenhuma possibilidade de redução, sem afetar diretamente a qualidade. O que se busca é identificar alternativas de ganho na competitividade por meio da redução de custos logísticos, única opção para atingir um melhor preço de venda. Para tanto, valeu-se de estudo das características e aplicabilidade das várias formas de transporte, como fator estratégico para a composição de custos adequados à competitividade desejada pelas empresas envolvidas na sua comercialização. Ao mesmo tempo, no emprego dessas alternativas de transporte, encontra-se a possibilidade de redução do congestionamento do tráfego e de melhoria na condição ambiental pela utilização de modais mais limpos. Trata-se de estudo de caso de natureza descritivo-exploratória do tipo quali-quantitativo com coleta de dados por meio de entrevista aberta, de pesquisa documental e bibliográfica. A discussão dos dados, oriundos das fontes primárias e da simulação permitiu chegar ao resultado que viabiliza a utilização do modal ferroviário a curto prazo e a utilização do hidroviário mais a longo prazo pela inexistência de infra-estrutura. O seu emprego resulta, além da redução de custos com frete, na melhoria do tráfego de veículos e na qualidade ambiental. / This work aims at focusing the possibility of cost reduction by the utilization of alternative means of transportation in relation to highways, railways and waterways in order to obtain sand and gravel, which are highly consumed, for civil construction at low added value to be available in São Paulo city. The mining activities as well as the other economic activities in the globalization era have very similar operations at cost level, having little or no possibility of reduction without directly affecting quality. What is searched is the identification of gain alternatives in competitiveness by reducing costs in logistics, it being the only option to reach a better sale price, by means of studying characteristics and applicability of various ways of transportation, as a strategic factor to compose adequate costs in relation to the competitiveness desired by the companies involved in their commerce. Likewise in the application of such alternatives of transportation there is a possibility of reducing traffic jams and improving the environmental condition by using cleaner means. It is a case study of descriptive-exploratory nature of the qualitative-quantitative type with collection of data in open interviews, documental and bibliographical research. The discussion of data coming from primary sources and from simulation made possible the result that makes viable the utilization of railway means in the short run and the utilization of waterway in the long run due to lack of infrastructure. Besides cost reduction in freight, its application brings improvement to traffic of vehicles and environmental quality.

Att bli miljömedveten : Perspektiv på miljöhandbokens textvärld

This dissertation is the study of environmental consciousness as a discursive educational project. The empirical material consist of 18 environmental handbooks that have been published in Sweden during the years 1976-2007 of which 13 appeared between 1988 and 1995. The research work uses the basic assumptions of discourse analysis, namely that language is an important factor in the construction and development of social norms and values. Three areas recieve close attention: questions relating to the form and content of the handbooks, questions relating to the social circumstances in which the handbooks were produced and questions relating to the overall educational significance of the handbooks. In the first instance, the handbooks are examined in the light of three different contextual stories. They can be read as part of wider discussions of environmentally-concsious life-styles, as a development of earlier Swedish discussions about domesticity, health, thrift and consumption, and, finally they can be read as an expression of a narrative about a dominant aspect of modernity – science. The second part of the research work comprises an examination of the handbooks in terms of their audience and educational purpose. What kind of individual is to be shaped by these handbooks? What is anticipated as the desired or ideal environmentalist? Discourse analysis suggests that, collectively, the handbooks project an image of somone who displays qualities of motivation, investigation and judgement. They should be motivated to begin a process of change in their lives, to encourage others to do the same, and to adopt the environmental problems as their own personal problems. The second quality pursued in the handbooks is of someone who should take an active stance towards the environment as a pervasive element in their way of life. They should, therefore, adopt an investigative attitude to the surrounding world, cultivate certain cognitive properties such as watchfulness, thoughtfulness and being suspicious, and constantly ask questions about their surroundings with a view to understanding how actions in their private world has an effect on the wider world. And thirdly, the ideal environmentalist citizen should be someone who demonstrates judgement in balancing polarities and resolving the claims of different standpoints. They should give attention to separating right from wrong, wisdom from madness and, above all, to finding a way of linking their own efforts to what is worth striving for and what is worth avoiding or neglecting. In summary, the subjects identified in the handbooks are expected to avoid extreme positions, to place their own expectations about sustainability on a suitable level, and to be prepared for failure and feelings of guilt. The final part of the investigation – interpreting the wider significance of the handbooks – uses a pluralistic model of analysis which takes its departure from three concepts – ecological modernisation, governmentality and the risk society. Using these orientations, the extent of the discursive educational project of the environmental handbooks is highlighted. If the handbooks are regarded as modernist prescriptions, they are texts which highlights slow and careful change taking place within the present power structure of society. If they are regarded as texts that offer a governmentality prescription, they can be read as texts which promote the transformation of everyday micropractices. And if they are regarded as prescriptions for a risk society, they are texts which enable readers to come to terms with confusion and powerlessness in a complex and risky social context. One main result is that the environmental handbooks display interesting similarities, worthy of futher exploration, supported by a broadened empirical base.

The thesis deals with the issue of the formulation of new requirements to the development of new product with regard to the development of carbon-free economy and product safety improvement. The first part of the thesis describes the state of art of science and technique in the field of process management and the life cycle of a machine tool with emphasis placed on the machine tool development. The second part of the thesis includes a research of legislative requirements concerning machine safety and environmental aspects of the design of the machine to be manufactured. The practical part focuses on an analysis of key processes of the company with emphasis placed on safety and environmental friendly design processes with suggestions concerning improvement of processes with implemented sub-processes necessary for the identification and verification of safety. The thesis describes method implementation of ecodesign processes, which are presented on processes of company and demonstrated on product of drill. The thesis has practical implications for the introduction of automated sub-process of the identification and verification of safety requirements and integration of product development process in realization of ecodesign to company’s products.

The thesis has practical implications for the introduction of automated sub-process of the identification and verification of safety requirements and implementation of the product development in the framework of future environmental friendly design development requirements to the products of TOS KUŘIM – OS, a.s.

Production, processing, transport and consumption of food form a significant part of the environmental burden. Organic farming and organic food production represent for many experts, policymakers and for a part of lay public a way to reduce the environmental burden. The volume of organic food production hinges on, among others, the willingness of consumers to prefer organic food to conventional food and also to change consumer behaviour. Although organic food consumer and purchase behaviour is sometimes found to be environmentally motivated, health motives are prevailing in many developed countries. Recently, organic food consumption has grown significantly in developed countries. The diploma thesis is for these reasons aimed at analysis of motivational factors and barriers that affect consumer's purchase decision-making related to organic food. First, the overview of scientific literature concerning organic food consumption behaviour is presented. Factors that explain it can be divided into four major types: attitudinal variables, contextual forces, personal capabilities and habits. The thesis deals with the concept of sustainable tourism development and its application in destination Finland. Main goal of the thesis is to depict the present state of sustainable tourism in this Nordic country and evaluate sustainable development of tourism in North Savo region. In the theoretical part, the importance of tourism and the sustainable tourism development is discussed. The following part is concerned with a basic characteristic of Finland as a tourist destination and the description of incoming and domestic tourism. The emphasis is further placed on an analysis of prerequisites for sustainable tourism in Finland. The analytical part focuses on an evaluation of sustainable tourism development awareness in North Savo region based on a questionnaire survey and selected indicators of sustainable tourism.

The master thesis deals with the design of environment friendly boarding house, which is located on a hill in a small village called Chlumětín. There are designed renewable energy sources, such as solar collectors or fotovoltaic panels. The first part deals with the design and layout of the boarding house. On the ground floor is solved, the design of the kitchen according to hygienic requirements, the design of the premises for guests with barrier-free toilets. In the attic are designed guest rooms including barrier-free room. The second part deals with the simplified design of building services. It includes rainwater management, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, lighting, cooling and heating. The third part deals with the detailed design of heating in the building. It includes design of radiator power, pipe dimension, power of wood-gas boiler, storage tanks, pumps, etc.

Ett av de mest hotande problemen idag är vad som händer med miljö. Ett stort problem är utsläpp. En stor bidragande faktor är den tanklösa användningen av fordon drivna av fossila bränslen. Ett sätt att kunna ta ett litet steg i rätt riktning, är att anpassa våran livstil och till exempel minska på användningen av bilen. Men även att allmänt göra mer medvetna val i vardagen. Målet med detta projektet är att göra just detta lite enklare. Att hjälpa dig transportera dina matvaror exempelvis från mataffären till hemmet.Processen för att komma fram till det som blev slutprodukten, började med intervjuer av användare. Därefter producerades skisser som visades för en testgrupp, för att samla feedback. Fysiska tester utfördes, innan det slutgiltiga konceptet nåtts: En vagn man kan använda på fyra sätt. Man kan skjuta den framför sig medan man går, eller dra den efter sig, man kan använda den som sparkcykel eller man kan koppla den till en cykel. / One of the most threatening issues today is what is happening to our environment. A consi- derable problem for these issues are the emissions. A tremendous contributing factor is the insensible use of fossil fuel driven vehicles. A way of taking a small step i the right direction is to adjust our lifestyle and reduce the use of the car. But also by making more conscious choises in our everyday lives. The aim of this project is to make this a little easier. To help you transport your groceries from for example the store to your home.The process of coming up with what later became the end product, started with interviewing users. Following that, sketches were made and showed to a test group to gather feedback.Physical tests executed, before the final concept was reached: A wagon you cam utilise infour ways. It can be pushed in front of you, while walking. It can be dragged behind, while walking. it can be used as a kick bike and it can be connected to a bicycle.
