IN THE HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT AND AFFECTIVITY: CONSTRUCTION OF A SENSE OF DEATH

Francisca Helena Gadelha de Lima 13 June 2013 (has links)
The death is present in the hospitals since the beginning of its creation. Health professionals deal with its presence in their daily routine as a contingency inherent in the health practice. The presented research aimed at understanding the relationship between the psychologist and the hospital environment by building this way about the process of death, taking as reference the affectivity category (emotions and feelings). We adopted the theoretical framework of social and environmental psychology based on cultural-historical approach and affection as possible ways to achieve the complexity of human phenomena. The field of the research was conducted in four public hospitals in the city of Fortaleza with the participation of six psychologists. The instruments used were the affective maps and the interview. The collected data was subjected to content analysis and grouped into three themes: death, therapeutic care and hospital. Four images in the hospital environment were formed through affective maps: contrast, suffering, destruction, pleasantness and inhering. The textual production relates death to the feelings and emotions of the psychologists in the inter-relationship with the hospital environment. The results showed a trend to a more positive estimate of the hospital by the images of pleasantness and belonging, even though the negative estimates of the hospital attended to the contrasting images of destruction and suffering dealing with the death processes. These processes required psychic pain in professional researchers participants. The death, especially in the early stages of development, was the key point to this suffering

Lar doce lar? um estudo sobre afetividade de idosos residentes em instituiÃÃes de longa permanÃncia em Fortaleza / HOME SWEET HOME?: A STUDY ON ELDERLY AFFECTIVITY RESIDENTS IN LONG STAY INSTITUTIONS IN FORTALEZA

Ana Caroline Costa 14 August 2012 (has links)
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the affection of the elderly at Long Term Institutions in the city of Fortaleza - CE, which are considered dwelling places for those who live there. We verified issues such as the current public policies; housing conditions relate to the level of satisfaction of elderly residents and assess their processes of space appropriation and its relation to the aging. In order to have an overview of the Long Term Institutions distribution, in Fortaleza, a total of 21 elderly people distributed in six institutions were part of our field research, one from each Regional Executive Secretary â RES, where the city is divided. As a theoretical framework we had Environmental Psychology and Social Psychology, its methods and techniques such as focus groups, personal interviews, field diary and the instrument to generate affective maps as a method to seize emotions. Through the images of pleasantness and belonging generated we could visualize positive feelings and qualities of residents, revealing a positive esteem about the place. Regarding the categories of belonging as survival and belonging to the past we recorded feelings and qualities that weakened the person, which triggers a negative esteem of residents in relation to LTCF. Seeking to contemplate these goals we realize that, despite the Brazilian population being in full process of aging, the current society is unprepared to deal with this issue. The existing public policies are very recent and still under implementation. Governmental entities which should help and support the development of institutions such as Long Term Care Facilities for the elderly (LTCF) are only with the role of charge, prosecute and fine. We realize that these elderly residents are disadvantaged in public policy and, moreover, they have no support from family and even society in general.

Sala de descanso em empresas de telemarketing e qualidade de vida / Quiet room in telemarketing and quality of life

Victor Hugo de Almeida 16 October 2008 (has links)
(CAPES/CNPq) / To systematize the production, increase productivity, eliminate costs and save time, companies has joined to telemarketing, the main activity outsourced in Brazil and one of the largest employers in the country (665 thousand teleoperators). However, occupational diseases are common in this context, motivating firms to seek resources in this own workplace, such as the implementation of a quiet room for its employees, to mut the newly approved Anexo II, of the Norma Regulamentadora 17 (rule), wich established the obligatory completion of break for meal/rest off workplace. This study aimed to check, next to the teleoperators and supervisors of telemarketing, the use, for teleoperators, of the quiet room implemented in the company and its opinions about relation between use and removal for reason of health, proposing an intersection between Environmental Psychology and Enviromental Labour Law. There was a pilot study with 15 teleoperators (ten women and five men) and a lawyer of the company, resulting in some changes in the final questionnaire for teleoperators. Participated on the survey, out of the company and expediency of work, 80 teleoperators: 48 women and 32 men; 56% between 18-25 years; 73% single; 59% of the turn morning/morning-late; 74% without or taking higher level, with 39% of indications of complete average education and 35% of incomplete higher education; between 2004-2007, 56% had started in the activity of telemarketing and 60% joined the company in wich they work. Three male supervisors had also participated, between 26-28 years, higher level complete, turn morning/late-morning, two singles and one married, recruited between 2000-2001. The results showed no significant differences between the teleoperators (sex/shift of work) and had showed that: (1) 97% of the teleoperators and all the three supervisors had considered the activity partially or fully shessful; (2) during short breaks, 71% of the teleoperators had indicated the frequent use of the cafeteria, also indicated for the three supervisors; (3) the majority of the teleoperators never uses the quiet room, either before (50%), during (43%) or after hours of work expedient (74%); (4) when the use of the room, activities were held more relaxing (indicated by 40% of the teleoperators) and interaction (indicated by 29% of the teleoperators and two supervisors); (5) 54% of the teleoperators has never moved away for health reason, however two supervisors had indicated frequent removals and one, sometimes; (6) 84% of the teleoperators and two supervisors had indicated the influence of the use of the quiet room in health; (7) 67% of the teleoperators and all the supervisors had judged necessary or relevant the implementation of politics of health in the company, to stimulate use of the quiet room and reduce injuries by occupational diseases. In conclusion, although the results showing the non-use by teleoperators of the quiet room, which had the many factors (environmental, personal, cultural, social, economic, etc.), the participants had considered it excellent for the health of the worker, suggesting the need to reflect about this space and the organization of the work, in compliance with the suggestions of participants, such as the need for recreation and interaction, activities no common on the rigid and heavy context of telemarketing. The cycle routes appear as an alternative to add to the road system conditions that allow people to carry out their movements in an attractive and efficient way. In this sense, the study aimed to develop a method of implantation of cycling systems in medium-sized cities, based on Environmental Psychology and the physical characteristics of the urban space and its interrelationship. For the study of the behavior and reading of the individual in the urban environment, the legibility and apprehension parameters of the "place" were adopted in addition to the four foundations presented by Environmental Psychology: personal space, territoriality, privacy and density / crowding in its relation with Cycling. As for physical space, a review of the main models available to measure the service level for bicycles was carried out, where mobility variables based on road safety and cyclist comfort were presented. The variables presented were measured through the Hierarchical Analysis, in which the aim was to evaluate the Via Condition Index, which will enable the definition of a more efficient segment in a road network1 to compose the cycle system. The method is composed of the following steps: area delimitation (identification of the pole generating travel and area of influence), characterization of the area of study (survey of the information of the region), identification of the segments with greater potential for trips with bicycles (spatial aspects), evaluation of the condition index of the route, analysis of intervention opportunities and choice of the stretch of implantation. As a validation of the presented method, a case study was carried out in the city of Goiânia. With this, it is intended to help managers and professionals in the implantation of bicycle systems within a behavioral perspective, as an alternative of real and viable mobility that aims at improving the quality of life and sustainability in urban centers, increasing the number of bicycle users.

Ecologia e juízo moral: vozes da liderança ambiental em Rondônia / Ecology and moral judgment: voices of environmental leadership in brazilian state of Rondonia.

Vanessa Aparecida Alves de Lima 22 June 2005 (has links)
Psychology and Ecology are two areas on which it is linked with quality of life. The process of environmental degradation due to the irrational use of non renewable resources is a great concern all over the world. The search for a healthy environment for everyone is followed by the learning process and the formation of individual character. Psychology seeks alternatives such as environmental psychology, social psychology and others in order to give support on that issue. The following paper proposes the analyses of ecology based on the environmental defense process using the Moral Psychology. It’s important to the Moral psychology to broaden its analytical field to fundamental areas linked to human needs and based on this same relation with ecology, as far as it concerns, the researches can be considered incipient. The following thesis support the argument that ecology is moral Environmental liders from Rondonia, selected by the Bom Meihy’s Methody for the formation of nets; when questioned about their activities concerning environmental defense, the historical process on which it was built on ecological concern to present a moral judge based on dilemmas and interviews, corrobate the thesis, showing a moral environment personality existence based on the subjective analyses of justice and ethical principles. The liders also present an ecological ethic, a “green” ethic based on sustainability. It can be mentioned important references from the Moral Psychology, as it follows. Kant (1785, 1936), Piaget, Kolberg (1955) and Puig (1998). This paper also presents studies that join Ecology to Education, Philosophy, Psychology and Environmental Psychology and it discuss the current problems of our environment.

The relevance of person-environment fit amongst human resource graduates from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University within the Nelson Mandela Metropole

Matthysen, Megan January 2009 (has links)
This study sought to investigate the relevance of Person-Environment (P-E) fit amongst Human Resource (HR) graduates from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) within the Nelson Mandela Metropole (NMM). A secondary objective of this study was to determine whether P-E fit was a determinant of Human Resource (HR) graduates’ migration. The study comprised a pilot study and main study (n=50). The study was qualitative in nature, but incorporated a quantitative research component to support the qualitative research findings. Results showed that HR graduates from the NMMU perceived P-E fit as important. Immense emphasis was placed on achieving P-E fit by means of finding employment related to Human Resource Management (HRM). The lack of P-E fit, amongst HR graduates, was furthermore revealed as a determinant of graduate migration. HR graduates would relocate to pursue a career in HRM. Implications of the findings are that organisations should use the theoretical knowledge of HR graduates to develop their skills and broaden their practical knowledge. This will secure competent future HR managers for the NMM and help to combat scarce skills migrations from the area.

Conspicuous Sustainability : Harnessing the potential of the social economy in order to acheive sustainability goals

McCreesh, Johnny January 2019 (has links)
Conspicuous consumption is a form of economic behaviour in which social pressure influences consumption decisions. Considering the current understanding of the detrimental ecological impact of excessive consumption practices, this paper overviews the potential to lessen wasteful consumption trends by utilising conspicuous consumption. This paper overviews research into this phenomenon, commencing with Thorstein Veblen’s work at the end of the nineteenth century. Combining this with research from sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, this paper suggests potential indicators of sustainable consumption tendencies, including personality traits and group dynamics. The empirical aspect of this study successfully replicates the findings of a recent investigation into conspicuous consumption; that is, that consumption increases when conducted in public and income is linked to status. This study has been updated to include various aspects of sustainability behaviour and knowledge and has found trends associated with students of sustainability in Uppsala, Sweden. Furthermore, this paper suggests that the encouragement of conspicuous forms of sustainability could inspire sustainable consumption trends, or potentially lead to a reduction of overall consumption. Finally, this paper makes recommendations for policy makers in order to encourage social sustainability practices, building upon nascent movements such as 'Flygskam' ('Flight Shame') and successful anti-smoking strategies.

The diploma thesis is based on research findings that the natural environment can help restore depleted emotional and cognitive resources. Theoretical part summarizes the results of research studies in this area and provides a sufficient number of studies which have confirmed the above mentioned phenomenon. In the empirical part I am devoted to ascertaining whether the picture of environment can have restorative effect on cognitive and emotional resources, and compare the effects of three different outdoor environments. The research was conducted by experiment, respondents were exposed to visual stimulus material with motives of natural environment, park or urban environment and then was measured their attention and mood.

The physical environment is in our vicinity and our everyday lives. We have daily contact with the physical environment, not least with the physical indoor environment. The school is a place where the physical indoor environment is important for both students and staff in their everyday lives. The purpose of our study is to get an idea of how students' motivation to participate in teaching at leisure-time centers is affected by the physical indoor environment, by comparing two leisure-time centers with each other. One leisure-time center with premises intended for leisure-time center and one leisure-time center that shares premises with the school classrooms. We compare the similarities and differences in leisure-time centers regarding the students' perception and integration with the physical indoor environment and what in the environment that motivates the students to participate in the teaching. This study is conducted with the help of observations at the leisure-time centers and web surveys and to help analyze our collected material, we use an environmental psychological perspective; environmental psychology refers to humans and the environment and looks at their impact on each other. We also use Reeves' eight aspects to see motivation linked to behaviors, to study the motivation of students at the time of observation. The results show that there are more similarities than differences between the leisure-time centers. The conclusion is that the students in the general way of both leisuretime centers have a positive attitude towards the premises of the leisure-time centers. They also show a high level of motivation and that the physical indoor environment affects motivation.
