Objective: Design a clinical study to assess the efficacy of body suspension with tilting exercises on functional and quality of life outcomes in PD. Design, Setting, and Participants: This is an assessor-blinded, randomized and controlled clinical trial. A total of 48 subjects with moderate PD were recruited from the Neurological Service of S?o Lucas Hospital, PUCRS, Brazil. Recruitment took place between September 2015 and May 2016. The entire protocol study lasted 16 weeks, with 8 weeks of exercise protocol and 8 weeks of follow-up. Interventions: Subjects were randomly assigned to either body suspension with tilting exercises (intervention group) or stretching exercises (control group). Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was the Timed Up and Go test at the 8th week. Secondary outcomes were Berg Balance Scale (BBS); Functional Reach Test (FRT); Unified Parkinson?s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Parkinson?s Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39). These measures were assessed at baseline (before trial entry) and then at the 8th (end of exercise protocols) and 16th weeks (8 weeks of follow-up) after randomization. Results: Of the 48 subjects randomized in the study 20 received the intervention (71.3?6.3 years old) and 20 were controls (66.7?6.4 years old). Eight of them were lost during the trial (four per group). Analysis of co-variance, with adjustment for baseline measurement, revealed a between-group difference in the Timed Up and Go test at 8th week [CI95% difference of -4.90 (-5.80 a -4.00), p<0.0001] and in the follow-up [CI95% difference of -4.94 sec (-5.82 to -4.06), p<0.0001], which was our primary outcome. Significant between-groups differences were also found for all secondary outcomes (BBS, UPDRS-III, FRT, and PDQ-39) at 8th week and follow-up (16th week) assessments. Conclusions and relevance: We suggest the body suspension with tilting exercises protocol (the Chordata Method) improves functionality and quality of life in subjects with moderate PD. This evidence supports the Chordata method appears to be a new effective therapeutic option to treat Parkinson-related mobility and balance dysfunctions. Desfechos principais e medidas: O desfecho prim?rio do presente estudo foi o teste do Timed Up and Go ao final do protocolo de treinamento (8 semanas).

Oldest-old (80 years or more) are more susceptible to their occurrence. Mobile technologies are shown as a facilitative and preventive alternative in actions in the field of public health. It is a cross-sectional observational and analytical study, with the objective to observe the performance of oldest-old fallers and non-fallers during the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test using a smartphone application. Participants were oldest-old (?90 years old), from Porto Alegre (RS), accompanied by the Care for the Oldest-Old Multiprofessional Project. We included in the study oldest-old that walked independently (without caregiver, family member or health professional) and safely, with or without the aid of gait devices (walking stick, crutch and walker) were included in the study; as well as those who understood verbal commands. Oldest-old patients who reported significant lower limb or spine pain on the day of the test were excluded from the study. In the analysis we use the sociodemographic variables (sex, age, schooling and monthly income), clinical variables (Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), presence of multimorbities( ) and polypharmacy 5? medications) and variables related to falls (history of falling in the last six months and fear of falling). As well as, parameters tracked by the application, which are temporal (Total TUG Duration, Transition Length from Seating to Standing (s) and Duration of Transition from Standing to Seating) and Angular (Maximum Trunk Angle Variation (g) and Maximum angular velocity during the forward lean phase (g / s) of the application). Significance levels of less than 5% were considered to be statistically significant and those between 5 and 10% were indicative of significance. The data were analyzed in the Epi InfoTM 7.2 program. From the 98 volunteers that participated at the study, 26.5% reported fall in the last six months. Women (25.76%) reported more frequent falls than men (p=0.492). Oldest-old fallers had mean age (92?3.14 years) higher than non-fallers (p=0.636), as well as more depressive symptoms (p<0.001). In the complete TUG, 97% of the non-fallers presented a medium or high risk of falling, compared to 92% of the fallers, showing an inadequacy of this classification for oldest-old. Fallers presented worse performance in each of the phases of the TUG, demonstrating to be more able to find differences between the groups than the complete test. Cut-off points for risk of falls were >1.68 seconds, in the sitting to standing phase, <1.91 seconds, in the standing to sitting phase, >42.2 degrees in the angle variation, and >84 degrees/second at the speed angle. The UAH Mobility Suite? smartphone application was able to evaluate the performance of oldest-old fallers and do non fallers through TUG time and its parameters, although any parameters were significant when compared to groups. Depression proved to be the only statistically significant variable, indicating that oldest-old depressive symptoms are more likely to fall. This was the first report of the use of UAHMobilitySuite? in oldest-old ones. The application has proved to be useful for being used in the home environment, and can be used in future researches.

Therefore, the aim of this thesis was to simulate improvements in the state transport matrix from the reduction in transportation costs, based on the knowledge of the infrastructure scenario of the transportation sector and its regional distribution. Two quantitative exercises were performed using general equilibrium models. In the first, an Input Output Matrix was estimated for the state and regionalized by mesoregion, seeking to verify the economic profile of each region and the use of transport modes. In the second exercise, a dynamic computable general equilibrium model for the state, called MEGARS, was used as a dynamic CGE model to evaluate fiscal and transport policies. The model was shown with great capacity in the generation of results and also in the preservation of local characteristics of the regional economy. The results of the CGE model regarding policy achievements are in line with the empirical literature on the evaluation of improvements in transportation and also demonstrated that the performance of the main macroeconomic variables of the economy of Rio Grande do Sul has improved significantly due to the net effect of the policy of improvements in transportation. transport. The reduction in transport margins has led to a rise in variables such as real GDP growth, exports, real household consumption, aggregate employment, imports, real wages and other costs of the economy in the period 2012-2025.

For this to happen, it is necessary the integrity of different structures and systems, especially visual, proprioceptive and vestibular systems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensorial systems involved in body balance maintenance in young, adults and old people using the Foam-Laser Dynamic Posturography. We evaluated 69 subjects, in which 34% of the sample represented by women, 34% by young, 34% by adults and 32% by old people. The elderly group performed significantly better in visual system than other groups. The young group showed visual preference significantly higher than other groups. We concluded that there are differences in the performance of the sensorial systems involved in body balance maintenance among the evaluated age groups, although those differences had a straighter relation with diseases and lifestyle than with the aging process itself.

Can be considered biologically as involution morphofunctional that affect all major physiological systems; however, in varying degrees, as it does not prevent the person ages remain active, independent and happy. Population aging is a global phenomenon and brings with it a greater concern of gerontologists for this process to occur with minimal dysfunctions and pathologies, thus preserving the old, so that it has a better chance of going through this period of life with greater functionality and autonomy as possible. Therefore, in this thesis, we present three original articles that deal with the aging process and its consequences, both functional and morphological point of view, from an evaluation of a total of 105 residents community-dwelling elderly of the west side of Rio Grande do Sul. In the first article, entitled isokinetic muscle strength of knee flexors and extensors between sarcopenic elderly and non sarcopenic, data of muscle function obtained by exclusively isokinetic dynamometer among elderly men introduced himself, classifying them according the muscular mass index (MMI) between sarcopenic and not sarcopenic. This manuscript intended to verify the actual reduction of the decrease in muscle mass associated with muscular performance and the results demonstrated decreased that older adults with decreased MMI showed reduced muscle function when compared to older people without this disorder. In the second, Comparison of muscle mass, isokinetic muscle strength test and sits and raises 30' in the elderly, the findings related to muscle function of the lower limbs in the elderly are demonstrated by comparing female and male, with and without a diagnosis of sarcopenia. This article also sought to analyze whether there was relationship between muscle function assessed by isokinetic dynamometer to test and sit up for 30 seconds between older men and women. The results made it possible to verify that, although the elderly men have a worse body mass index they have managed to preserve a better muscle function that older women compared through the isokinetic dynamometer. The third article, entitled Analysis of body balance in elderly classified into different age groups using computerized dynamic posturography (CDP), presented the data obtained from the evaluation of the body balance in the balance of cash by sensory organization test and motor control. In order to classify the elderly, this study grouped them into three age groups hoping to see if advancing age had significant association with reduced body control. Through statistical analysis it was seen that those still younger preserve a better body stability.

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Reabilita??o e Desempenho Funcional, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2018. / Osteoarthritis (OA) has chronic-degenerative potential and inflammatory character. In addition to the inflammatory role, other factors, such as redox imbalance, appear to contribute to changes in the articular cartilage, the main articular structure affected. Photobiomodulation (PBM) using LED has been proposed for the treatment of OA by acting on degenerative cartilage processes, favoring antioxidant defenses and modulating oxidative stress markers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of PBM therapy using LED (630 nm) on the histomorphometric aspects of articular cartilage and redox balance in knee OA induced by sodium monoiodoacetate in rats. Wistar rats were used, separated between the groups: Control; osteoarthritis (OA) and osteoarthritis + LED (OALED). In the OALED group, the LED (630 nm, 300 mW, 9 J / cm2, 0.3 W / cm2, 30 s, starting 24 h after induction, 3 times / week, 8 weeks) was applied. The euthanasia of the animals occurred 56 days after induction of OA, blood was collected for analysis of oxidative damage (TBARS), enzymatic antioxidant capacity (SOD and CAT activity) and the total antioxidant status of plasma through (FRAP). The right knee was used for the morphometry of cartilage by measuring the thickness and counting of chondrocytes. The OALED group had a higher average cartilage thickness and mean chondrocytes similar to the control group. It was also observed higher antioxidant enzymatic activity (SOD and CAT) and lower level of TBARS (P <0.05) in the OALED group compared to the OA group. PBM therapy has been shown to be effective on redox balance and preservation of articular cartilage in an induced OA model.
