Játiva Miralles, Mª Victoria 09 July 2007 (has links)
The Society of Jesus Library at the San Esteban School in Murcia is being reconstructed. A work plan has been developed in order to identify and classify titles and editions, based on a study of the inventory of the library's collection drawn up when the Jesuits were expelled on the orders of Carlos III in 1767. Using this methodology, an "inventory catalogue" has been drawn up, based on the information provided by the original inventory on the books and their bibliographical descriptions, which deals with the teachings habitually imparted in the Order's schools, in accordance with the Jesuit system of education.

Abjekta möjligheter : En studie av det queera abjektet i svensk samtidslitteratur / Abject Possibilites : A study of the queer abject in contemporary Swedish literature

Randeblad, Joel January 2024 (has links)
This essay, through Julia Kristeva’s theory of abjection, seeks to shift the focus from the society that abjects towards the abjected through a generous reading of two contemporary Swedish queer novels, Du är rötterna som sover vid mina fötter och håller jorden på plats by Eli Levén and Ett så starkt ljus by Lyra Ekström Lindbäck. I discuss how the queer subject relates to different types of borders that Kristeva posits, such as the bodily border, the border of the I, and a moral or societal border. I find that the queer subject has a different relationship to these borders, and view and experience them in ways different than Kristeva suggests. Furthermore, I analyse how the queer subject experiences being made abject. I find that this experience can both be harmful and be somewhat self-sustaining in maintaining societal norms, but also that it can be a way for the queer subject to further position itself as different from a heteronormative society, a position that is truer to who the queer subject feels they are. Through José Esteban Muñoz’ Cruising Utopia I discuss how there are potentialities with being queer, or queer being, such as an expanded worldview and an outstretched concept of possible ways of being and living. The broader aim of this essay is to test Kristeva’s claim that literature is a place for a person to approach the abject, and to examine if literature also has a possibility of portraying an abject position, being a place where the abject itself can examine abjection and being made abject. My conclusion is that this is the case, and furthermore that literature also is a place for the abject to examine potentialities beyond the heteronormative sphere.

Moira, take me with you! : Utopian Hope and Queer Horizons in Three Versions of The Handmaid's Tale

Marx, Hedvig January 2018 (has links)
Using postmodern, feminist and queer notions of utopia/dystopia and narrative theory, this thesis contains an analysis of The Handmaid’s Tale (novel 1985; film 1990; TV series S01 2017) based on theoretical and methodological understandings of utopia/dystopia and narrative as deeply connected with notions of temporality and relationality, and of violence and resistance as the modes of expression of utopia and dystopia in the source texts. The analysis is carried out in an explorative manner (Czarniawska 2004) and utilises the notion of “disidentification” (Butler 1993; Muñoz 1999) and the concepts of “diffraction” (Haraway 1992, 1997; Barad 2007, 2010), and “entanglement” (Barad 2007). The conclusion becomes that utopia and dystopia in The Handmaid’s Tale are, to a great extent, imagined within the same system of understanding, but that utopian hope can be found in the relationality and temporality of resistance, and that the radically different utopian place is the queer horizon.

Through this research, we attempted to perform an analysis of the intellectual conception of democracy developed by Argentine Esteban Echeverría, using as a main source political manifest published in 1839 under the title Código o Declaración de los Princípios que Constituyen la Creencia Social de la República Argentina. His second edition, published in 1846, received the name which he became best known, Dogma Socialista de la Associación de Mayo or just Dogma Socialista. This manifest has the political principles for the democratic thinking of the author and members of his group, the “generation of 1837”. The conceptions of his author have been analyzed from the perspective of understanding the structures of sociability from their ideas, or were intended to contextualize them in the progress of circulation of a common political ideal to the group. All these elements are related to political, social and cultural life of early nineteenth century in America, specifically Argentine, amid the debates and struggles of the post-independence period.

LA PARROQUIA DE SAN ESTEBAN DE VALENCIA Y EL PALACIO DEL MARQUES DE CARO: UNA HISTORIA PARALELA_ PROPUESTAS E HIPÓTESIS PARA UNA RECONSTRUCCION URBANÍSTICA Y ARQUITECTÓNICA 1238 _ 1519

Máñez Testor, Santiago 18 April 2016 (has links)
[EN] This master thesis is a study about the urban evolution in the perimeter of the San Esteban church between the conquest of Valencia in 1238 by King Jaime I and the accession of the artisan guilds (Germanías) in 1519. It stress the image and urbanism of the Islamic city, the urban development within the perimeter of the parish with special emphasis on the Islamic wall of both taifa and almohade and the landmarks used to limit the district, is also part ot this study. Several of the phases of urbanization are being analyzed: The first donations gained in El Llibre del Repartiment, that are shown and identified, the private urban development through Las Poblas, the construction of the new Christian Wall and the name-giving of streets in the 15th and early 16th century. The constructive evolution of the Palacio del Marqués de Caro is analyzed simultaneously showing the historic background, the image in the moment of the conquest and different phases and models using the Islamic tower as a starting point and continuing with the first Christian construction in the 13th century, modifications in the 14th century and a restructuration at the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century. Moreover, from this work we derive the hypothetic location of the Islamic gate Bab-Al-Carrac, En Esplugues gate, the dimensions of the second and third Jewish quarter, the Pobla of Jaume Marc and the Almoyna in La Xerea.

Larsen, Dallin V 01 March 2015 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis transcribes and translates the war correspondence of King Philip II from the year 1592. The original manuscripts are held at the Harold B. Lee Library in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections (Brigham Young University, Provo, UT). The original manuscripts have been diplomatically transcribed meaning that the transcription respects the original orthography, accentuation, abbreviations, and word divisions. For easy comparison, a facsimile of each manuscript has been provided and appears before its corresponding transcription. The translation strategy used is a modified version of a “fluent translation” as described by Lawrence Venuti. Instead of removing all foreign aspects of the source language (Spanish), some political and monetary terms have been borrowed because of a lack of a cultural and lexical equivalent in the target language (English). The definitions of these words have been provided at the end of the translation section. Also provided is a brief history about Philip II and his rise to being king of Spain along with his political ideologies and policies towards the Netherlands and England. This biography provides the historical context to better understand the content of the letters and their impact on history.
