Assédio moral na vivência de enfermeiros: perspectiva fenomenológica / Bullying in nurses experience: phenomenological perspective

Hagopian, Ellen Maria 28 June 2016 (has links)
Introduction: Bullying highlights a current problem in the works world and may interfere with the quality of provided assistance, as it impacts directly on harassed worker\'s health and interferes with their quality of life, their colleagues and the workflow. This social phenomenon can provide, as well, the absenteeism increase and productivity decrease. Objective: Understand the meanings assigned by the nurses experienced harassment in the workplace. Method: We decided to perform a qualitative research with approach of social phenomenology of Alfred Schütz. The inquiry region was composed of nine nurses from a private hospital in the city of São Paulo. The interviews were individual and the testimonials recorded, transcribed and analysed based on the theoretical assumptions of the theory of social action of Alfred Schütz. Results: Obtained data allow us to know and understand nurses experiences in relation to both the practice of bullying and their meanings (reasons why), how many the expectations that this social group has, regarding the need for transformation of this social reality (reasons for). The \"reason why\" highlight the way the nurses understand the bullying occurrence. This perception elucidated the harassment as an inherent practice in the nursing profession, caused by hierarchically superior professionals exposed to institutional pressure. The professional insecurity could also be a reason to practice of bulling. The \"reasons for\" converge to a hope that the truth be not obfuscated by the institution, colleagues and the personal service, so that guidelines and support to the victims of bullying be given. There is the longing for the construction of a concrete dialogue flow among nursing workers, who feel immersed in stressful situations in the workplace and get help of the Supervisory Board of professional activities, to support them in the fight against the occurrence of bullying. Final considerations: This study allowed us to understand the meanings attributed to bullying in nurses experience. Reveals predisposing circumstances of this phenomenon and the expectations of the workers, to find special strategies in the workplace for this problematic, in order to enable transformations of this social reality, sometimes so damaging in interpersonal relations since it causes damage and suffering to the worker.

An investigation into the relationship between gender, socioeconomic status, exposure to violence and resilience in a sample of students at the University of the Western Cape

Mokoena, Emily Matshedisa January 2010 (has links)

This study, located within the systems theory framework, recognises that resilience is multidimensional and multi determined and can be understood as the product of connections with, and between multiple systemic levels over time, and further understands that risks factors are seen as influences that occur at the individual, family, community and societal level. The quantitative study used a secondary analysis survey of data and utilised a sample of 281 students from UWC - 90 male and 190 female. In drawing from the literature the study examined the relationship between gender, Socioeconomic status (SES) and exposure to violence and resilience. Results of the factorial MANOVA indicate a statistically significant association between low SES and exposure to violence (p &lt / 0.05 = 0.036). There were no statistically significant results for the associations between gender and exposure to violence and resilience, as well as the association between SES and resilience. These results were contrary to what was predicted. The results of the present study suggest that in the South African context, both males and females have managed to find ways of coping when faced with adversity as well as being able to draw from their protective influences. It is also possible that the selected variables (gender and SES) may only be significant in relation to other variables. The limitations of the study were also discussed, and recommendations for future research were put forward.

I stunden - Att möta familjer i kris när barn berättat om våld i hemmet

Königsson, Amelia January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate how a specific crisis support in a Swedish municipality is functioning. The study also aims to investigate social workers’ perceptions of this crisis support as well as its success factors and development areas. Four social workers who have experience of the specific crisis support participated in individual interviews. The resultsshow the general perception being that the crisis support is effective. Areas for development are also presented, including skills development and continuity in work with violenceexposed children and their families. The material was analyzed using attachment theory and systems theory as a base. The results show the receptibility of people in crisis and that it is necessary for people to receive professional support in difficult situations, matching findings from previous studies. The results confirm the importance of early support in a crisis process where child maltreatment is reported.

Violent Aggression Exposure, Psychoemotional Distress, Aggressive Behavior, and Academic Performance Among Adolescents

Evans, Joyce Renee 01 January 2017 (has links)
Sixty percent of youth indicate exposure to violence. Such exposure is a noted risk factor for youths' well-being, including cognitive, emotional, and behavioral development. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding whether exposure to violence predicts impaired academic performance. The purpose of this quantitative study was to test a model with cognitive, behavioral, and emotional sequelae of exposure as mediators of the relationship between exposure to violence and academic performance among adolescents who are at risk for exposure and attend inner-city high schools. Ninety-nine students, primarily female and African-American, in Grades 10 to 12 at two public schools in a major mid-Atlantic metropolitan district completed self-report measures for exposure to violence, aggressive behavior, aggressive cognitions, psychoemotional distress, and academic performance. A series of linear regressions was used for mediational analysis. Path coefficients were interpreted to test the proposed causal model. Consistent with previous research, a weak, but statistically significant bivariate relationship was found between exposure and grade point average (GPA). However, the relationship was indirect, mediated by students' aggressive cognitions: Higher levels of aggressive cognitions provided the best predictors of negative relationships exposure to violence with GPA. These findings have important social change implications. In particular, findings suggest that educators, parents, and mental health professionals can strengthen academic performance among adolescents with higher academic potential who are exposed to violence by offering support for positive coping styles and alternatives to attitudes that normalize aggression.

A qualitative study of professionals' experiences in working with abused children and how they discover that the child is exposed to violence

Jasmina, Ferhatovic January 2023 (has links)
This qualitative study aims to investigate, through semi-structured interviews, the experiences of professionals in working with children who are exposed to violence. The interviews included four social workers who work with different tasks, school counselor, social worker at the reception unit for reports, social worker at the investigation unit and social worker at the crisis center, who work with voluntary efforts for people exposed to violence. The choice of the interviewees also landed on the fact that they work in different municipalities to show if there is any difference in the work depending on the size of the municipality. In order to answer the questions, an interview guide was produced that, with its thematic structure, would follow the entire process, from detecting the exposure to violence to granting intervention or closing a case. The theoretical foundations of the study, organizational theory, attachment theory, room for manoeuvre and power theory are also a basis for answering the questions. In addition to the interview guide and theoretical starting points, the background and previous research lay an important foundation for understanding what violence is, what consequences it can mean for the child and what difficulties the professionals may encounter in their work. The results showed that it can be very difficult to detect exposure to violence, partly because children do not dare to tell about it, and partly because the symptoms can be either absent or vague in being able to determine that it is abuse. The interviewees state that it is important to be sure that it is an abuse because a report can be a big change for the child and the family, but at the same time signs of violence should never be ignored.Relationship building with the child is stated to be the most important prerequisite for both detecting violence and helping the child. But, to have time to create a relationship requires time and it can be difficult because the law says that there is a limited time for all steps in the processing process.
