Potomci 50. let. Rodinná paměť v rodinách politických vězňů / Children of 50th years. Family Memory in Families of Political Prisoners

Olšák, Miroslav January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with family memory of 1950s Czechoslovak political prisoners. Its two major questions are: Is there a well preserved story in an actual family memory of a family ancestor who was politically persecuted and imprisoned in the period after 1948 and is his story preserved without significant shifts from reality? Given topic is being analyzed throughout a story of three particular families - those of Bedřich Fučík, Ladislav Jehlička and Karel Procházka. These three political prisoners died already, therefore were the subject of examination records of three generations of their descendents. Primary sources for this thesis are thus personal interviews with these family members. Both archive sources and original texts written byl Bedřich Fučík and Ladislav Jehlička were also used. Individual interviews have shown that a story of their ancestor is well perserved in family memory, but every particular family or narrator have their own specificities. Some narrators have shown major shifts from reality, whereas others have not. Key words political prisoners, 1950s, family memory, communist regime, oral history

The literary field has become a fruitful ground for the representation and elaboration of narratives which attempt to reflect upon family relations. Among the diversity of motifs presented in those productions, the theme of decay has been a recurrent topic. In light of this, the present research aims at analyzing how the theme of the declining family is portrayed in William Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! (1936) and Autran Dourado’s The voices of the dead (1967) taking into account the influence on transgeracional transmission and the symbolic burden of the past over the Sutpen’s and the Honório Cota’s dynasty members. In order to reach the objective above, we seek to investigate the symbolic value of the father figure within the novels, focusing on his role in the constitution of the structure and formation of the family; to examine the relation among the family members as well as the transmission of behavior between ancestors and descendants; to analyze the role played by the family memory and the effects caused by the descendants’ compulsion to preserve their inheritance; and, lastly, to verify in what way the family memories are embodied in the spatial configuration, more precisely the house, as a mnemonic trace that keeps the presence of the dead and reflects the view of the past towards historical and social transformations. To this end, we based our analysis on the studies developed by Assmann (2011), Benjamin (2012; 2013), Candau (2011), Freud (1996), Penso, Costa and Ribeiro (2008). The results show that the transgeracional transmission and the burden of the past hold a remarkable negative power over the characters. Furthermore, it may be concluded that the decay which tears the families apart function as a metaphorical and metonymic representation that associate the rise and fall of both dynasties to the process of destruction and transformation of the societies described in the novels.

França, Maria Cristina Caminha de Castilhos January 2009 (has links)
Anthropological study on family memories that are reorganized with Family Parties, seen as contemporary family rituals, being called Party or Gathering of a given family. The ethnographical research was done with families "in and from" different cities in Rio Grande do Sul between 2004 and 2009. A Family Party is understood as a happening that has become frequent in contemporary Brazilian society. The event presents the ambiguous aspect of the individual's search for their ancestors amidst a modern world, in which the valorization of individualization seems to make people less connected to local and fixed forms of solidarity. Seen as a rite - which aims to revive or engender new forms of identity, with new behaviors, with the family rearrangements required by contemporary situations - the Family Parties can be seen as a learning instrument, implying the continuity of the generations, of the age groups or social groups in which they are produced.

Les vacances au bled de descendants d'immigrés algériens : Trajectoires, pratiques, appartenance / Holidays in the country of origin for french of algerian descent : Trajectories, practices, affiliations

Bidet, Jennifer 09 December 2013 (has links)
For at least thirty years now, descendants of North African immigration in France have been at the centre of scientific and political debates. Defining degrees and rhythms of integration or identifying forms of discrimination, sociological analysis of the descendants of migrants has generally analysed life practices and social trajectories from the perspective of the country of birth and residence. This work proposes an alternative perspective by describing and analysing the material links that are maintained with the country of parental origin through an apparently minor phenomenon: holidays trips to the country of birth of their parents – in this case, Algeria. This thesis explores questions of affiliation and feelings of belonging that are raised in these trips, taking into account the various social backgrounds and trajectories (social class, sex, age and generation, family status) of the descendants who participated. Affiliations are not merely questioned through declarations or symbolical links to the country of origins (such as language or religion), but also through the description and analysis of material practices around holidays trips in Algeria. This analysis of practices reveals different ways of maintaining relations with the country of origin, between roots tourism, consisting of finding one’s place in family or national history, and leisure tourism, in which affiliations are based on current social relationships with family and/or friends. This research is based mainly on qualitative methods (interviews and observations) implemented both in France (around the city of Lyon) and Algeria (specifically in the area of Setif, the main region of origin for Algerian families in Lyon). The description and analysis of present-day practices is completed by a longitudinal perspective on the evolutions of these holidays practices. These evolutions are analysed both from the point of view of the descendants and their families, and the point of view of the source state of emigration, Algeria.

Lecompte, Élise 09 1900 (has links)
This research wants to demonstrate that the home movie and his reception context seem to be deeply marked by oral tradition and it’s communicative and social system. Orality should be considered as the family remembrance catalyst in home movies. This spoken word is the main transporter of the interpretation of home movie message as the family discourse. In fact, if we try to evaluate which one of the sensory mediums is more important for family communication (visual or oral medium), we would find out that orality plays a bigger part. Consequently, its form, content and finality correspond to the “oral cinema” definition of Germain Lacasse. Because of an actual lack of literature on this specific subject, the purpose of this study is to connect and define theories of oral tradition and home movie. The theoretical approach developed is based on oral tradition theory, Halbwach’s collective memory theory and on the relations between cinema and orality. Therefore, several aspects will be discussed : the contribution of orality in domestic memory constitution, the orality involvement in family memory stimulators or medias, and finally, the analysis of home movie’s form and content as an oral cinema. In addition, four sequences of Quebec made home movies since the twenties until our days are studied.

Family firm social capital : individual capitals of habits of family-member managers to shed light on cognitive and relational processes

Houvet-Carrau, Christiane 31 March 2015 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to explore the link between family social capital and the cognitive andrelational dimensions of the family firm (FF) social capital. At the crossroads of managementsciences, sociology and psychoanalysis, this work contributes to a better knowledge of the FF, whichintermingles, because of its very nature, emotions and affects in a very specific and ambivalent way.We consider that the family, through its culture, provides a shared framework to tackle reality andinfluences therefore the patterns of action and thought of its members. Thus, the question arises ofthe impact of the confrontation or superposition of these patterns (between generations, betweenbrothers and sisters, or family members and non-family employees) on the organizational culture ofthe FF. To address the ambivalences animating these family-individual-business synergies, we adaptthe concept of ICH (Individual Capitals of Habits) developed by Kaufmann (2001) to family-membermanagers (FMM), throughout a single case (preceded by an exploratory case), and we enriched itwith emotion-psyche-affect dimensions. Thus we use a dialectical cube model as a framework ofanalysis to shed light, from the inter and transgenerational angle, on a ICH management process. The analysis of the risks induced by this transversal process provides FMM with means to improveinternal organizational social capital and FF governance. The design of the research is abductive, based on a qualitative and interpretative approach. It combines FMM life stories, cognitive maps, semi directive interviews (non-family-member managers), matrices of process analysis, genograms, and risk analysis.
