Felony Offenses Related to Personality Traits

Ancell, Richard Guy 05 1900 (has links)
The problem with which this investigation is concerned is whether relationships may exist between personality and type of offense in a felon population. The Eysenck Personality Inventory, which measures extraversion-introversion (E), neuroticism-stability (N), and includes a lie scale (L), was used to determine subject's personality traits. Offenses were divided into crimes against persons, crimes against property, and crimes against the morals of the state. Subjects consisted of 751 adult male felons. The product-moment correlation was computed for each offense-variable EPI pair. A negative association between E and crimes against persons, together with a positive association between L and crimes against persons, were found to be statistically significant at the 0.05 level, although quite low. It was concluded that results obtained should be guardedly interpreted in view of the minimal amount of variability accounted for, though of possible value in suggesting future research.

Att förvägra dömda rösträtten. : En argumentationsanalys av debatten om förvägrandet av rösträtten i USA. / To deny felons the right to vote. : An argumentation analysis of the debate on the denial of the right to vote in USA.

Josefsson, Josefin January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study has been to present different arguments regarding felony disenfranchisement. What was also investigated was if the practice could be compatible with Robert A. Dahl and his model of democracy. Finally, the findings were presented and what they meant. The material of the study consisted of texts produced in the purpose of arguing either for or against the practice. The content of these texts was presented through an argument analysis. They were presented fractionated by themes depending on what the argument was stating.  The results of the analysis were that there were some recurring arguments, both for and against the practice. Furthermore, it became obvious through analyzing the arguments that the model of democracy and its five criterias could not be compatible with the practice. Lastly, it could be stated that what it meant was that nothing regarding the practice of felony disenfranchisement could be compatible with Robert A. Dahl’s idea of democracy.

A sexualização do crime no Brasil: um estudo sobre criminalidade feminina no contexto de relações amorosas (1890-1940) / The sexualization of crime in Brazil: a study of female criminality in the context of loving relationships (1890-1940)

Alessandra de Andrade Rinaldi 21 May 2004 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to investigate the aspect of how female crimes in the passionate relationship context, were thought of between the years of 1890 and 1940 in Rio de Janeiro. Besides these documents, the scientific enactment of female crimes were being investigated by psychiatrists, neurologists, forensic doctors and jurists, all professionals with articles published in alike forensic and jurist magazines. This course was taken with the purpose of learning how, on erudite productions, forensic and jurist professionals would deliberate about the connection between crime and female. Through a documented research they came to the conclusion these "criminologists" sexualized all crimes, looking to build scientific support, capable of vouching hypothetically that men and women, for their differences, would commit distinct felonies. During research of criminal lawsuits, it was learned a tendency to acquit female crimes in passionate relationships, considering them one modality of felony harmless to society

But some of them are fierce: Navigating and negotiating the terrain of motherhood as formerly incarcerated and convicted women

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: Women who are incarcerated are viewed as having departed from the hegemonic standard of motherhood, and become questionable in their roles as mothers, and are often perceived as "bad" mothers. While the challenges of parenting behind bars has been widely researched, there is a paucity of research that centers the experiences and challenges of mothers post-incarceration or probation and a void in the literature that attempts to view this population outside of the confines of the good/bad mother dichotomy. This dissertation explores how mothers who are formerly incarcerated or convicted describe their experiences navigating and negotiating their roles not as good or bad mothers but as fierce mothers. The concept of fierce mother exists outside of the good/bad mother binary; it is based on themes that emerged from the stories women told during our conversations about the practice of mothering. The energy of hard-won survival is what they bring to their mother roles and for many it drives their activism around prison abolition issues. Their stories challenge the normative discourse on good/bad mothers, justice, rights, freedom and dignity. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Justice Studies 2015

El impacto del robo y el hurto en la economía doméstica: un estudio exploratorio sobre los datos de Lima Metropolitana / The impact of robbery and theft in the household economy: An exploratory study on data from Lima Metropolitana

Mujica, Jaris, Zevallos, Nicolás, López, Noam, Prado, Bertha 10 April 2018 (has links)
This research estimates the impact of robbery and theft in the household economies of the victims, according to their socioeconomic background. We analyze the current situation of Lima Metropolitana between 2011 and 2012, focusing on Cercado de Lima, a highly transited area where many people from different socioeconomic backgrounds converge. In this place, there is also a high rate and a high prevalence of robbery and theft. Based on a range of values involved in the average robbery and theft sustained in a standardized inventory of stolen goods, we estimate the percentage of the impact of the felony, such as the time of recovery of the goods that were substracted. This study allows us to conclude that the percentage of the impact of the felony and its recovery time are related to the socioeconomic strata, affecting mainly its lower levels.

Adámková, Denisa January 2019 (has links)
The Issue of an Offender's Personality in Criminology Serial killers The cardinal topic of this diploma thesis is an analysis of an offender's personality and the major focus is given on serial killers. Although the serial killer's personality is the main topic of the thesis, a significant part deals with a criminological, forensic psychological and legal theory, involving the explanation of the relevant legal terms. This diploma thesis aims to provide the reader a comprehensive overview of serial killers. The main goal of the thesis is not only to offer probable profile of the serial killer, but to introduce Czech and foreign expert findings into the context with the Czech law and jurisprudence as well. Also, the thesis aims to help the reader to perceive differences among serial killers, mass killers and spree killers, as these multiple killers are often confused. I present some real cases for better illustration of the issue. From the huge amount of serial killers, I have chosen the most interesting or the most recent ones. In the first chapter I explain the term offender. I distinguish the legal and criminological point of view. The cardinal topic of the second chapter is the offender's personality. The first part of this chapter is focused psychologically, nevertheless in the introduction I...

Availability Of The Felony-murder Rule Today: Equitable And Just Or Unfair And Excessive?

Francis, Traci Rose 01 January 2005 (has links)
The current research provides an examination of felony murder to determine the similarities and differences among jurisdictions in the nation. It provides a current analysis of jurisprudence to update the literature as to practices in the United States pertaining to the availability of felony murder and the specific elements that make up the rule. This research conducts a survey of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Federal System. It provides an overview of the felony-murder rule and its availability, the degrees to which the doctrine is utilized, and the subsequent sentences allowable for defendants convicted under the theory. Current statutes are analyzed to establish what circumstances specifically constitute felony murder and the criteria required by each of the jurisdictions. Additionally, it determines to what degree jurisdictions subscribe to the felony-murder theory, which ones allow individuals to be eligible for life sentences or death sentences, and which jurisdictions allow the rule to be applied to non-triggerman offenders.

The Color of Marginalization: Painting the Picture of Race and Public Policy in American States

Douglas, Nakeina Erika 08 December 2005 (has links)
Building on the conceptual lens of Hero and Tolbert (1999), this study examines differences between policy restrictiveness in states with high minority populations and states with low minority populations for three policies areas: felony voting policies, Unemployment Insurance (UI) and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). This study examines whether states with minority populations greater than the national average have public policies that are more restrictive than states with minority populations at or below their national average and the patterns that emerged. Overall, I found higher levels of restrictive policies for states with high minority populations in the instances of felony voting policies and the Unemployment Insurance program. The findings imply a need for accountability and uniformity from the state to improve the outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities. / Ph. D.
