Ett företag i det socialt oacceptabla / A company in the socially unacceptable

NIMANI, GEZIM, PERSSON, JOAKIM January 2011 (has links)

Long-term implications of critical incident stress among emergency responders

Beaton, Deborah, University of Lethbridge. Faculty of Education January 2003 (has links)
Critical Incident Stress has the potential to affect emergency services personnel to the degree that it can change the way the responder acts and reacts in all facets of his or her life, including the job and his or her family. Research into these potential effects has produced a greater understanding of the responders experiences within a short period of time after the perceived critical incident. This study investigates the long-term effects of critical incident stress among emergency responders from two cities in the three emergency services professions were interviewed to determine what their experiences were at least six months post critical incident. A structured incident had in three areas of teh emergency responders lives: impact on job, impact on the individual responder, and perceived impact on emergency responders families. For particpants, symptoms of Critical Incident Stress lasted between 6 months and 2 years after the perceived critical incident. Analysis of the data indicatees that single responder critical incidents have the potential to negatively affect emergency responders resulting in the loss of enthusiasm and passion for their work, debilitating psychological distress, and isolation from valued support systems. Long-term effects of Critical Incident Stress change the perceptions that responders have about the job, about themselves, and the relationships with their families. The culture of emergency services, changing identities, and the lack of support from both within the system and outside of the system were seen as variables that contribute to the long-term effects of Critical Incident Stress. / xi, 181 leaves ; 29 cm.

The memory of the inhabitants of the Araguaia: leadership, struggle and resistance!

Petta, Renata Lemos 15 December 2016 (has links)
This research is to analyze the memory of the Araguaia peasants on one of its main fighters \"Osvaldão\". From the author\'s participation in the research for the production of the documentary entitled \"Osvaldão\" interviews were collected and, through them, identify the \" mythical \" memories around the aforementioned character. These memories reveal a man with extraordinary and even supernatural qualities. Our goal is to analyze elements that propitiated this memory \"mythical\" and how it remains present among the residents of the Araguaia. With contributions from Martin - Baró, Halbwachs and Selligman - Silva understand the trauma of relationships and different strategies of memory to ensure the survival of those who remember. The symbolization and the creation of the myth then emerge as a need to be able to give direction where no one has. This possibility of symbolic creation, resistance and also the intense feeling of solidarity among residents and Osvaldão function as memory references. In Benjamin, we understand that the miraculous components of the narrative function as fixers and perpetuators of it factors. In the interviews we noticed the intense affection of the residents in relation to Osvaldão, the trauma of the experiences in the war and the creation of the myth not only as a survival strategy of the residents, but also Osvaldão

Political Violence in Media: A case study of the media framing of the Kurdish female fighters in Northern Iraq and Syria

Lundmark, Therése January 2016 (has links)
The aim and purpose of this study is to explore how the Western media, more precisely six British newspapers, portrays the Kurdish female fighters of the Women’s Protection Units and the Peshmerga, who today are fighting against Deash in Northern Iraq and Syria. There have been a growing media interest in the Kurdish female fighters since the rise of Daesh, and they were an often recurring subject in newspapers and other media platforms during 2014 and 2015. I have collected 32 articles from six different newspapers, and applied a framework consisting of six different frames developed by Brigitte L. Nacos together with theories of media framing and social constructivism. The methodology is conducted as a critical discourse analysis, inspired by Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model.     In the articles, the Kurdish female fighters are portrayed as a different phenomenon, however, the articles still describes them as brave and dignified fighters who are rational in their understanding of what they are fighting for and what they are sacrificing. They are portrayed as being motivated by issues such as equality and female liberation in contrast to Deash anti-female values. The previous research conducted by feminist scholars often focuses on that the media portray women, who conduct acts of political violence, in a negative ways, such as deviants who are lacking traditionally stereotypical feminine characteristics or that their looks are in focus instead of their motivations. However, I have drawn the conclusion that there is more to how the Kurdish female fighters are portrayed then what one would think.

Extremism amid Uncertainty? A Case Study of Fighters' Motivations to join the Right Sector's Volunteer Ukrainian Corps

Mutallimzada, Khalil January 2019 (has links)
In response to the conflict in eastern Ukraine that began in April 2014, thousands of Ukrainians voluntarily enrolled to various paramilitary battalions. Except the Right Sector’s Volunteer Ukrainian Corps, all battalions have been incorporated into official defense and security structures. This study investigates why some combatants choose to serve in the paramilitary Right Sector’s Volunteer Ukrainian Corps rather than join the state-sanctioned military, and specifically how this choice is influenced by uncertainty. This multisite case study is conducted with volunteer fighters in the regions of Odesa and Donetsk, using data collected through interviews, observations and through the review of documents. The study applies uncertainty-identity theory, which explores how uncertainty in an individual’s own life, or their environment can prompt them to seek structure through belonging to a group or ascribing to an ideology. This theory is applied to understand how participants’ identification with the paramilitary Volunteer Ukrainian Corps might influence their feelings of self-uncertainty. The data led to six themes: Russian aggression; patriots and opportunists; enemies among us; trust, confidence and cohesion; sworn brothers; and construction of uncertainty. These themes help to understand the motivations of participants, but also how uncertainty is constructed through the membership in the Right Sector’ s Volunteer Ukrainian Corps. The findings of this study give a holistic account about participants’ feelings of self-uncertainty through their multifaceted and complex experiences. Analysis of the data revealed that the clear group prototype and the high entitativity of the Right Sector’s Volunteer Ukrainian Corps increased participants’ self-confidence, which inspired their continued identification with the group.
