"I'm the bitch who makes you a man" : En studie av genus och heteronormativ tvåsamhet i Gone Girl

Högye, Elin January 2016 (has links)

Exploring the Flynn Effect: A Comprehensive Review of the Causal Debate

Trimble, Abby J. 01 January 2011 (has links)
Since its discovery in 1984, psychological investigators have continued to explore the Flynn Effect, the phenomenon of consistent and secular IQ gains within industrialized nations approximating 0.3 points per year. The most contentious debate within this field of research surrounds the purported cause of the Effect, and yet the research literature lacks a synthesis of the leading causal theories and the evidence supporting them. The principal hypothesized causal mechanisms – psychometric artifact, educational intervention, environmental changes, nutrition, genetics, gene-environment interaction model, medical improvements, and the multiplicity hypothesis – are reviewed and analyzed within the larger breadth of Flynn Effect scholarly literature. Flynn Effect causal investigation has not yielded any decisive results, and the unproductive postulation of causal theories has recently stagnated, so researchers must accept a necessary shift in the focus of their research toward a more collaborative and holistic understanding of the Effect in order to effectively determine its causes. Extensive social implications of the Effect within the scopes of special education and judicial policy necessitate the expedited revitalization of Flynn Effect research such that contemporary society may be better able to appropriately incorporate the Effect into public policy.

Daleko do klidu: prostor a domesticita v díle Medbh McGuckian a Leontie Flynn / Far from Peace: The Images of Space and Domesticity in the Poetry of Medbh McGuckian and Leontia Flynn

Nováková, Lucie January 2020 (has links)
1 ABSTRACT Key words: Northern Irish poetry, Leontia Flynn, Medbh McGuckian, domesticity, domestic space, the Troubles, post-Agreement poetry The aim of the thesis is to observe the Northern Irish conflict from the vantage point of domestic space as it is reflected in Northern-Irish poetry of the last 40 years. The thesis builds on the notion that houses and homes are not simply private places but images of the outside world. To illustrate this premise, the works of two Northern Irish poets have been selected: Medbh McGuckian and Leontia Flynn. Divided by time, but not space, their poetry is to be placed into the context of Northern Irish poetry during the Troubles and the post-Agreement period. McGuckian's poetry is engaged with making a sense of the distinction between public and private spheres (Wills 1993), whereas Flynn's poetry, and post-Agreement poetry in general, shows signs of attempts to discover and establish her place within the context of the Troubles. In formulating her stance, Flynn relies on a perspective gained by leaving home and memories of growing up during the Troubles behind and travelling abroad (Heidemann 2016). Both poets write about the Troubles in light of the division between private and public spheres, thus illustrating how the violent politics have been part of Northern Irish...

Trumpet Music of David Sampson: A Performer's Guide to "Breakaway," "Passage," and "Triptych"

Flynn, Michael Patrick 11 May 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to create a performer's guide for three separate pieces written by David Sampson. The first piece, Breakaway, is written for two trumpets and electronic accompaniment. The second piece is entitled Passage, and is written for muted flugelhorn and viola. The final piece for examination is the Sonata for trumpet entitled Triptych, a commission from the International Trumpet Guild in 1991. Although the number of compositions for trumpet has increased in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, guides for the performer regarding pieces with unique instrumentation and internationally commissioned works extremely limited. Included in this study is an examination of the specific challenges found in Breakaway, Passage, and Triptych, with detailed consideration regarding the methods with which to execute the unique performance elements of each composition. In addition, the information found in this study will expand the number of twentieth and twenty-first century trumpet works that have been investigated in a formal research capacity.

Mäter WAIS-IV och WAIS-III jämförbara kognitiva konstrukt? : Sambandet mellan Wechsler-skalorna WAIS-IV och WAIS-III / Do the WAIS-IV and WAIS-III scales measure similar cognitive constructs? : The correlation between the Wechsler-scales WAIS-IV and WAIS-III.

Dyme, Pär January 2011 (has links)

Selective traditions : feminism and the poetry of Colette Bryce, Leontia Flynn and Sinead Morrissey

Pryce, Alexandra Rhoanne January 2014 (has links)
This thesis seeks to argue for the problematising role of tradition and generational influence in the work of three Northern Irish poets publishing since the late 1990s. The subjects, Colette Bryce (b. 1970), Leontia Flynn (b. 1974) and Sinéad Morrissey (b. 1972), emerged coterminously, each publishing with major UK publishers. Together they represent a generation of assured female poetic voices. This study presents one of the first critical considerations of the work of these poets, and it remains conscious of the dominance of conceptions of tradition and lineage which are notable in poetry from Northern Ireland from the twentieth-century onwards. In suggesting that this tradition is problematised for emerging women poets by precursor-peer dominance and the primacy of male perspectives in the tradition, this thesis combines a study of poetics, themes relating to gender, detachment and paratexts. From consideration of these elements, it proposes that contemporary poets are not necessarily subject to the powers of tradition and influence, but rather, are capable of a selective approach that in turn demonstrates the malleability of contemporary traditions. The approaches are laid out in four chapters which move from a consideration of “threshold” paratexts (following from the work of Gérard Genette), including book reviews and dedications, through studies of thematic divergence and detachment, the changing status of women’s poetry traditions within Northern Ireland and beyond, the significance of gendered subjects in poetry, and influence found not in thematic or paratextual aspects, but in the individual aspects of poetic form. These aspects combine to form poems and the tradition(s) in which they continue. The thesis provides extensive coverage of the work of Bryce, Flynn, and Morrissey, combining close readings with the application of theoretical frameworks interrogating the implications of literary traditions on later writers (especially when the writers are temporally and culturally close), giving particular consideration to gender and feminist politics. It explores a variety of different critical truisms applied to the poetic generations that precede the younger poets and identifies both compliance and divergences from the contemporary Northern Irish canon. In doing so, this study simultaneously illuminates the frailties of the popular, overwhelmingly male, tradition, particularly as regards to representations of women, and provides direction for studies of post-millennial Northern Irish poetry.

Nanomaterials (catalysts) are microporous and mesoporous considered promising for obtaining light oil products from heavy oil fractions and adsorbents for environmental protection. This paper reported the synthesizes by hydrothermal method, and characterization of mesoporous heterogeneous catalysts, the SBA-15 type with addition of metals cerium and aluminum, evaluating their activity and selectivity in the thermal degradation of heavy oil. Samples of nanostructured materials were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TG / DTG), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ray fluorescence spectroscopy X (XRF) spectroscopy, absorption in the infrared region Fourier transform (FTIR) and nitrogen adsorption (BET). The characterization showed that the synthesized materials resulted in a nanostructured catalyst and ordered pore diameter and surface area according to the literature. In order to check the catalytic activity of the same, we used a heavy oil sample (?API = 14), supplied by Petrobras, is performing through thermogravimetry the process of thermal and catalytic degradation of the oil. Through the thermogravimetric curves, it was observed a reduction in the opening of oil decomposition catalytic process temperature. Through non isothermal kinetic model Ozawa Flynn Wall (OFW) gave some parameters to determine the apparent activation energy of decomposition. Obtaining as results of X-ray diffraction showed through characteristic peaks that the hexagonal structure was formed, noting that the best reason was Si / Ce = 5 because of its intensity at a high angle. The infrared spectra showed absorptions family material characteristics SBA-15. The nitrogen adsorption, obtaining parameters compatible with those found in the literature which confer them to be promising in the field of oil degradation due to their mesopores facilitate access of large molecules. The average pore diameter varied significantly with the incorporation of aluminum and cerium. The wall thickness (Wt) was in the range from 2.96 to 4.07 nm, thus observing an increase in this parameter which is due to incorporation of the metals into the wall, indicating that the incorporation of cerium, did not block the mesopores. The addition of aluminum reduced the surface area (SBET) of 893 to 763 m2 g-1, however with the addition of cerium with aluminum this area increased to 826 m2 g-1. For the oil temperature and the initial end of weight loss; presenting only two events due to mercapt?dico sulfur, which influences the appearance of the third event, since that content is measured by the amount of sulfur in aromatic rings (heavy HC). The mixture of oil + 12% of Ce5Al50SBA-15 showing the catalytic activity of this material.

No. of bitstreams: 1 AnaADP_TESE.pdf: 2810011 bytes, checksum: 6f11363dfc6e540fe688b7737b77893b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-11-04 / Aiming to reduce and reuse waste oil from oily sludge generated in large volumes by the oil industry, types of nanostructured materials Al-MCM-41 and Al-SBA-15, with ratios of Si / Al = 50, were synthesized , and calcined solids used as catalysts in the degradation of oily sludge thermocatalytic oil from oilfield Canto do Amaro, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Samples of nanostructured materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TG / DTG), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), absorption spectroscopy in the infrared Fourier transform (FT-IR) and adsorption nitrogen (BET). The characterization showed that the synthesized materials resulted in a catalyst nanostructure, and ordered pore diameter and surface area according to existing literature. The oily sludge sample was characterized by determining the API gravity and sulfur content and SARA analysis (saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes). The results showed a material equivalent to the average oil with API gravity of 26.1, a low sulfur content and considerable amount of resins and asphaltenes, presented above in the literature. The thermal and catalytic degradation of the oily sludge oil was performed from room temperature to 870 ? C in the ratios of heating of 5, 10 and 20 ? C min-1. The curves generated by TG / DTG showed a more accelerated degradation of oily sludge when it introduced the nanostructured materials. These results were confirmed by activation energy calculated by the method of Flynn-Wall, in the presence of catalysts reduced energy, in particular in the range of cracking, showing the process efficiency, mainly for extraction of lightweight materials of composition of oily sludge, such as diesel and gasoline / Com o objetivo de reduzir e reutilizar o res?duo de borra oleosa de petr?leo, gerado em grandes volumes pela ind?stria petrol?fera, materiais nanoestruturados dos tipos Al-MCM-41 e Al-SBA-15, com raz?es de Si/Al = 50, foram sintetizados, calcinados e utilizados como s?lidos catal?ticos na degrada??o termocatal?tica da borra oleosa de petr?leo, proveniente do campo petrol?fero Canto do Amaro, no estado do Rio Grande do Norte.
