Our founding premise is that Helio Melo s art reflects his experience as a rubber gatherer; having in mind the woodman s way of life, Melo searches to draw, in his plastic and literary art, a sociology of Labor. The Amazonian environment is the theme of his art, which has shown the Amazonian flora, fauna and man in sketches, drawings and stories. Acre s history, since the colonization period, up to the Amazonian economic pattern changes (which have brought about such an expressive rural mass migration) and the rubber gatherer s, Indian s and river inhabitant s resistance in defense of the forest have been taken into consideration in Helio Melo s biography. This essay has also focused on the artist s main exhibitions, especially the 27th São Paulo Art Biennial (2006) which has had the merit of including Helio Melo among the contemporary artists of the world. His national and international exhibitions have been also considered in this essay. And in the final considerations some indicatives that the artist has experienced three phases of his visual art (labor sociology, class struggle and ecology) have been presented.

Didaktický potenciál lidové umělecké tvorby pro žáky 1. stupně základní školy / Didactic Potentiality of Folk Art for Primary School Pupils

Agossa, Lucie January 2021 (has links)
The concept of this diploma thesis is based on folklore, folklorism, national art, folk customs and traditions, specifically in the region of Moravian Slovakia. In the theoretical part, I define these terms. I point out the misuse of folklore for political or advertising purposes. I introduce artists who have dealt with the processing of folklore in the visual arts, and at the same time I introduce contemporary artists who have been inspired by Moravian Slovakia folklore motifs. In the research part, I chose the method of structured interviews of five respondents active in the field of folklore, and my goal was to subsequently analyze these interviews and identify meaning nodes. What is most important for the respondents is not a surprise to me, but a confirmation and sorting of ideas so that it can be a solid basis for pedagogical activities. The practical part offers a pedagogical portfolio, which is verified in practice, and there is an effort to use its didactic potential in primary school. KEYWORDS folklore, folklorism, qualitative research, folk art, ornament, pedagogy, Moravian Slovakia, traditions and customs, art

Lidová zbožnost pozdního středověku a novověku v odrazu hmotné kultury (na příkladu drobné keramické plastiky) / Folk religiosity during High Middle Ages and Early Modern times as reflected in material culture

Juřinová, Šárka January 2016 (has links)
Folk religiosity during High Middle Ages and Early Modern times as reflected in material culture (the example of small ceramic sculpture) This work focuses on study of religious practice and urban everyday life of urban folk groups in Prague Towns from High Middle Ages till Early Modern times. The most common archaeological artifacts reflecting religious practice are small clay figurines found both in urban and in rural environment. These figurines made of fired clay depict in most cases Madonna with Christ-child and various saints, nevertheless profane figurines and various zoomorphic artifacts can be found too. This work is focused mainly on findings of clay figurines obtained during the large archeological excavation on Republic Square in Prague, which offered a unique collection of artifacts dated from 1250 to 1600. Analogies from the Central Europe will be considered in the process of evaluation of the assemblage mentioned above. It is not known exactly what the purpose of these artifacts was and it is still a subject of discussion, into which we will try to bring some new light. Right iconographic interpretation requires a comparation with some other objects of folk religiosity and urban everyday life (such as medallions and other small holy objects, pilgrim signs, pilgrimage pictures,...

Basson, Eunice L. 30 June 2003 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / This thesis entitled The contribution of Erich Mayer towards the establishment of an aesthetic consciousness and the promotion of an art identity in South Africa to the end of the 1930s, is a study of the ideas, ideals and contributions of the German-Jewish artist Erich Mayer concerning the establishment of a national art identity in South Africa. Mayer was born in Germany in 1876. Because of ill health he came to South Africa, where he settled in 1898 and developed an affinity with the Afrikaner pioneers in the rural areas. This natural connection with the Afrikaner pioneers was the main motivation behind his participation in the Anglo-Boer War. With his sound European background and training at various art academies in Berlin and Stuttgart, he soon realised that a knowledge of European art history or any awareness of an aesthetic consciousness concerning the fine and applied arts was sadly lacking within the general South African community and more specifically amongst the early Afrikaners. As a student, Mayer developed a keen interest in traditional German arts and crafts, which, according to him, contributed to the specific national Germanic character. This interest prompted him to conduct research and document examples of folk art among the Afrikaners as well as other indigenous communities, in an attempt to establish an aesthetic awareness in South Africans, and more specifically among Afrikaners. Mayer was of the opinion that the development and marketing of these cultural objects and artefacts would contribute towards a unique art identity with a strong South African national character. Apart from his interests in the fine and applied arts, Mayer also researched the vernacular architecture, furniture design and household articles of both Afrikaner pioneers and Africans. He travelled widely in South Africa, researching his interests and presented lectures on these themes which he published in newspapers and magazines in an effort to create an awareness of the rich indigenous folk art. Mayer is in 1876 in Duitsland gebore. / History / D. World of Desire

Crippa, Benedetta January 2017 (has links)
This project report offers an in-depth, detailed account of my creative process and work during my two-year Master in visual communication at Konstfack, Stockholm. My degree project is a celebration of plurality and visual democracy. Starting with identifying different norms pervading the graphic design discipline in the Western world today, both in terms of aesthetic values and systems of thinking, I have worked to propose and visualize alternative possible futures.  Drawing has been my main carrier through an intense journey of un-learning and re-learning resulting in an artist’s book in unique copy.  With this book, I want to problematize the dominant discourses around objectivity as a utopian ideal with a suppressive agenda, while visualizing a world I can recognize myself in. I have used decoration as a method, emotion and femininity as explorative standpoints, giving space to the metaphorical, the ambiguous and the spiritual to challenge current visual norms.  This book emerges as an affirmation of my own quest for visual belonging  as a graphic designer and a woman; a testimony of the practice of drawing as actualized power.
