Som ett öppet vykort? : En fallstudie av hantering och bevarande av e-post ur ett informationssäkerhet- och informationskulturperspektiv / Like an Open Postcard? : A Case Study of the Management and Preservation of E-mail from an Information Security and Information Culture Perspective

Silander, Jenny January 2019 (has links)
This thesis is based on a case study of two Swedish municipalities. I have studied which strategies archivists and registrars use for managing and preserving e-mail within these organizations. The study constitutes a comparison between a municipality that has introduced a e-archive and one that has not done so. I also explore how the way in which e-mail is managed has changed over time in the municipalities since The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was introduced in Sweden and throughout the EU in 2018. The study was conducted through qualitative methods. Semi-structured interviews with archivists and registrars from the two municipalities were completed. The empirical material from the interviews has been analysed using qualitative content analysis. This means that notes and transcriptions of the interviews was sorted and categorized and then transformed into the results of the study. The thesis theoretical framework consists of information culture and I have analysed in which way the information culture has changed in the organizations since the GDPR came into force. In addition, I also analysed my results from an information security perspective, since this is up-to-date with the GDPR and is an important aspect to consider in relation to of e-government and records management in the society today. The results show that there are a lot of challenges in the municipalities studied concerning management and preservation of e-mail, especially regarding how the people working in the organization tackle the e-mail. There is a great need that increased education about records management reaches out more in the organizations. The conclusion of this challenges is that information culture also has changed noticeably since the GDPR was introduced. The result of this has in many cases meant that many employees have gained a greater awareness that they need to start reviewing their e-mail inboxes, but they do not know how or in what way it should be done. To solve these problems, it is therefore essential that the education initiatives between archivists and registrars and the employees, that had begun to be implemented in the municipality’s, continues to be expanded. In conclusion and in summary, I would like to emphasize that it is important to consider information culture in organizations today. It is important both to be able to develop the organization's records management and also in a wider social context, in order to satisfy a good structure of public documents and our democratic right to take part of these. In addition to this, in my study, I have come to the conclusion that it is essential to consider the information security both within the public organizations and from a wider societal context, especially linked to management and preservation of e-mail. So far, the topic of managing and preserving e-mail linked to strategies used by organizations and how people influence these has been a rather unexplored area in the field of archival science. This study aims to create new knowledge about an area that is both current and important from a wider societal perspective as well as from an archival science perspective. This is a two years master's thesis in Archival Science.

Analýza zpracování osobních údajů podle Nařízení GDPR / Personal Data Processing Analysis under the GDPR Regulation

Slámová, Gabriela January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the proposal of a personal data protection system according to the General Data Protection Regulation in the organization Dentalife s.r.o.. The proposal was implemented on the basis of an analysis of the current situation which revealed serious shortcomings in line with the General Data Protection Regulation. Based on the identified deficiencies, a recommendation has been drawn up which, in the event of its subsequent implementation, will put the current situation into line with this Regulation. The theme of the diploma thesis was selected primarily because of its up-to-date and missing materials that would describe and explain the individual steps of the whole process of analysis and implementation.

Opportunities and challenges with the GDPR implementation : A study of how the GDPR has affected business processes in Sweden

Al Abassi, Baraa, Aladellie, Sara January 2020 (has links)
The General Data Protection Regulation is a relatively new law that is applied to all companies within the member states of the European Union. The law is established to protect individual’s personal rights and privacy from being misused. The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate how businesses based in Sweden have complied with their internal and external processes in alignment with the GDPR. The gap that was found was that limited research has been made regarding how businesses have complied in alignment with the law after the implementation. To investigate this problem area, semi-instructed interviews were conducted with five large companies in Sweden. The results that were found was that the General Data Protection Regulation has contributed to different challenges for businesses as well as opportunities. Nevertheless, a major finding from the empirical presentation together with previous research was that the businesses need to standardise their processes to align with the standards of the General Data Protection Regulation.

Experience with users about the various GDPR provisions available through the services

Alid, Hani January 2023 (has links)
This thesis discusses the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its impact on individuals since the GDPR became effective in May 2018. The regulation has had significant implications for companies and organizations that handle user data as it provides fines if they are non-compliance. However, the GDPR was created to protect individuals' privacy and personal data in the European Union (EU), which has added many complexities to companies and individuals. This study aims to provide an experiment with individuals in Sweden to document their knowledge of the regulations and their ability to exercise the rights granted and to know their opinions through interviews with 19 samples of individuals. The research deals with the third chapter more than other chapters of the GDPR. The results revealed a lack of awareness among the participants, with only a small percentage having prior knowledge of the GDPR and lacking a clear understanding of the implications and practical implementation of these rights, despite the participants' enthusiasm when explaining the rights to them. Participants acknowledged the importance of their data and assessed the provisions of the GDPR. They emphasized rights such as access, rectification, and erasure as necessary to protect privacy. After obtaining nearly complete knowledge, the participants could exercise and find the GDPR rights entirely on Swedish sites, except those who were able to find the rights with only a little knowledge. The study highlights the need to enhance individuals' awareness of the GDPR and improve transparency and accessibility of privacy policies.

Using privacy calculus theory to explore entrepreneurial directions in mobile location-based advertising: Identifying intrusiveness as the critical risk factor

Gutierrez, A., O'Leary, S., Rana, Nripendra P., Dwivedi, Y.K., Calle, T. 25 October 2019 (has links)
Yes / Location-based advertising is an entrepreneurial and innovative means for advertisers to reach out through personalised messages sent directly to mobile phones using their geographic location. The mobile phone users' willingness to disclose their location and other personal information is essential for the successful implementation of mobile location-based advertising (MLBA). Despite the potential enhancement of the user experience through such personalisation and the improved interaction with the marketer, there is an increasing tension between that personalisation and mobile users' concerns about privacy. While the privacy calculus theory (PCT) suggests that consumers make privacy-based decisions by evaluating the benefits any information may bring against the risk of its disclosure, this study examines the specific risks and benefits that influence consumers' acceptance of MLBA. A conceptual model is proposed based on the existing literature and a standardised survey was developed and targeted at individuals with known interests in the subject matter. From these requests, 252 valid responses were received and used to evaluate the key benefits and risks of MLBA from the users' perspectives. While the results confirmed the importance of internet privacy concerns (IPC) as an important determinant, they also indicate that monetary rewards and intrusiveness have a notably stronger impact on acceptance intentions towards MLBA. Intrusiveness is the most important risk factor in determining mobile users' intentions to accept MLBA and therefore establishing effective means of minimising the perceived intrusiveness of MLBA can be expected to have the greatest impact on achieving effective communications with mobile phone users.

Our Humanity Exposed : Predictive Modelling in a Legal Context

Greenstein, Stanley January 2017 (has links)
This thesis examines predictive modelling from the legal perspective. Predictive modelling is a technology based on applied statistics, mathematics, machine learning and artificial intelligence that uses algorithms to analyse big data collections, and identify patterns that are invisible to human beings. The accumulated knowledge is incorporated into computer models, which are then used to identify and predict human activity in new circumstances, allowing for the manipulation of human behaviour. Predictive models use big data to represent people. Big data is a term used to describe the large amounts of data produced in the digital environment. It is growing rapidly due mainly to the fact that individuals are spending an increasing portion of their lives within the on-line environment, spurred by the internet and social media. As individuals make use of the on-line environment, they part with information about themselves. This information may concern their actions but may also reveal their personality traits. Predictive modelling is a powerful tool, which private companies are increasingly using to identify business risks and opportunities. They are incorporated into on-line commercial decision-making systems, determining, among other things, the music people listen to, the news feeds they receive, the content people see and whether they will be granted credit. This results in a number of potential harms to the individual, especially in relation to personal autonomy. This thesis examines the harms resulting from predictive modelling, some of which are recognized by traditional law. Using the European legal context as a point of departure, this study ascertains to what extent legal regimes address the use of predictive models and the threats to personal autonomy. In particular, it analyses Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) adopted by the European Union (EU). Considering the shortcomings of traditional legal instruments, a strategy entitled ‘empowerment’ is suggested. It comprises components of a legal and technical nature, aimed at levelling the playing field between companies and individuals in the commercial setting. Is there a way to strengthen humanity as predictive modelling continues to develop?
