Study on Technology and Learning

The purpose of this research thesis is to investigate technologies effects on learning. Specifically the researchers studied the usability of intelligent personal assistant-enabled devices for learning assistance. It is assumed that using technology in educational context helps both students and educators because there is a positive effect on engagement which increases learning curves. Although, this is not always the case. The present study yielded results that were not consistent with the assumption that using any type of technology as an aid for learning has a positive effect. Further research will seek to investigate other intelligent personal assistant devices for classroom use.

Google använder sig av över 200 olika variabler i sin algoritm för att utvärdera en webbplats. Vad exakt dessa 200 variablerna är och vilken vikt de utgör i en webbsidas pagerank är okänt för allmänheten. Genom sökmotoroptimering försöker man att ta reda på hur en webbsida ska optimeras för att vara sökmotorvänlig. 2010 förklarade Google att de kommer att lägga till variabeln hastighet i deras algoritm och nu är webbplatsens hastighet en del av SEO.I ett antal experiment utforskas hur hastigheten på en webbsida påverkar en webbsidas placering på Google's sökresultatsida. Resultaten av dessa experimenten pekade på att hastighetsvariabeln har en förvånansvärt liten påverkan på webbplatsernas positioner. / Google uses over 200 different variables in their algorithm to evaluate a site. What exactly these 200 variables are and what weight they represent in a web page's PageRank is unknown to the public. To fnd out how a Web page should be optimized to be search engine friendly we use search engine optimization. 2010 Google declared that it will add the variable speed in their algorithm, and now the site speed is a part of SEO.A number of experiments are made to determinate how the speed of a website affects a web page position on Google's search results page. The results of these experiments indicate that the speed variable has a surprisingly small effect on the websites' positions.

Uppsatsen behandlar sökmotoroptimering gällande Google. En litteraturstudiegörs för att besvara vilka metoder som är de mest effektiva för ett så braträffresultat som möjligt samt vilka metoder som Google inte anser följer derasriktlinjer. En empirisk studie görs även genom att skicka ut ett antal frågor omsökmotoroptimering till SEO-konsulter i Sverige. Ett antal ”on-page”-metoder och”off-page”-metoder redovisas samt även ett antal tveksamma metoder. Vilkametoder som är mest effektiva gällande sökmotoroptimering skiljer sig en del vaddet gäller litteratur från några år tillbaka och vad SEO-konsulterna idag anser.Resultaten från litteraturstudien visar att nyckelord är den viktigaste metodenmedan SEO-konsulterna menar att länkbygge är det man ska prioritera. Vilkametoder som är mest effektiva förändras och kommer att förändras eftersomwebben växer och fler webbsidor skapas vilket resulterar i en högre konkurrens. / The essay treats search engine optimization for Google. A literature study is doneto answer which methods are the most efficient to achieve as good result aspossible and which methods Google does not consider follow their guidelines. Anempirical study is also performed by sending out several questions about searchengine optimization to consultants in SEO in Sweden. Several “on-page”-methodsand “off-page”-methods are presented and also a few methods which are againstthe guidelines of Google. The methods which are the most efficient when it comesto search engine optimization are different if you compare the literature from acouple of years ago and what the consultants in SEO use today. The results fromthe literature study indicate that keywords is the most important method whilethe consultants in SEO say that links should be prioritised. The methods whichare the most efficient change and will be continued to change since the web isgrowing and more web pages are created which results in a higher degree ofcompetition.

Yes / The use of smartphones has become more prevalent in light of the boom in Internet services and Web 2.0 applications. Mobile stores (e.g., Apple’s App Store and Google Play) have been increasingly used by mobile users worldwide to download or purchase different kinds of applications. This has prompted mobile app practitioners to reconsider their mobile app stores in terms of design, features and functions in order to maintain their customers’ loyalty. Due to the lack of research on this context, this study aims to identify factors that may affect users’ satisfaction and continued intention toward using mobile stores. The proposed model includes various factors derived from information systems literature (i.e., usefulness, ease of use, perceived cost, privacy and security concerns) in addition to the dimensions of mobile interactivity (i.e. active control, mobility, and responsiveness). The study sets out 13 hypotheses that include mediating relationships (e.g., perceived usefulness mediates the influence of ease of use, active control, responsiveness and mobility; perceived ease of use mediates the influence of active control). As well as outlining the proposed research method, the research contributions, limitations and future research recommendations are also addressed.

Quantifying the sustainability of Bitcoin and Blockchain

Yes / Purpose: We develop new quantitative methods to estimate the level of speculation and long-term sustainability of Bitcoin and Blockchain. Design/Methodology/Approach: We explore the practical application of speculative bubble models to cryptocurrencies. We then show how the approach can be extended to provide estimated brand values using data from Google Trends. Findings: We confirm previous findings of speculative bubbles in cryptocurrency markets. Relatedly, Google searches for cryptocurrencies seem to be primarily driven by recent price rises. Overall results are sufficient to question the long-term sustainability of Bitcoin with the suggestion that Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Ripple may all enjoy technical advantages relative to Bitcoin. Our results also demonstrate that Blockchain has a distinct value and identity beyond cryptocurrencies - providing foundational support for the second generation of academic work on Blockchain. However, a relatively low estimated long-term growth rate suggests that the benefi ts of Blockchain may take a long time to be fully realised. Originality/value: We contribute to an emerging academic literature on Blockchain and to a more established literature exploring the use of Google data within business analytics. Our original contribution is to quantify the business value of Blockchain and related technologies using Google Trends.

PageRank for directed graphs

The purpose of this activity is to investigate how the PageRank algorithm behaves in relation to the damping factor when applied to small graphs and certain special graph types. The PageRank algorithm involves the calculation of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the Google matrix for both directed and undirected graphs. This discussion will focus on all directed graphs with up to four vertices and select special graphs. Our primary objective is to observe how the damping factor influences the dominant eigenvector for each graph and, consequently, how it impacts PageRank. We have calculated PageRank for all the graphs and conducted an analysis, particularly focusing on the effect of the damping factor, denoted as "c," in our discussions. To compute the PageRank algorithm, we constructed a probability matrix for all the graphs and performed the calculations using MATLAB. This process yielded eigenvalues and eigenvectors associated with the Google matrix. The theoretical section of this thesis encompasses the PageRank theory, including essential proofs, theorems, and definitions that serve as foundational elements throughout the thesis. Additionally, we delve into the historical context and practical applications of PageRank. In our study, we present a comparative analysis of the results, specifically examining the impact of a damping factor on the dominant PageRank eigenvector.

Magistro darbo objektas – Google AdWords pritaikymas internetinėje rinkodaroje. Darbe analizuojama Google AdWords svarba internetinėje rinkodaroje. Esant kintamoms rinkos sąlygoms, reklamai skirtas biudžetas yra nedidelis, todėl reklamuotojai jį nori išnaudoti kuo įmanoma efektyviau. AdWords reklama skirta tikslinei auditorijai, interneto vartotojai, atlikdami paiešką, patys susiranda juos dominančią prekę ar paslaugą. Reklaminiai skelbimai bus parodomi tik tuo atveju, kai paieškos sistemoje suvesti raktažodžiai atitiks įmonės veiklą apibūdinančius raktinius žodžius. Ištirta, kad būtina stebėti raktinių žodžių bei skelbimų efektyvumą ir jeigu reikia pakeisti neefektyvius raktažodžius arba skelbimus. Išlaidas labai paprasta kontroliuoti, todėl reklamuotojas gali nustatyti kiek nori išleisti per mėnesį savo reklamai ir maksimalią kainą už vieną paspaudimą ant reklaminės nuorodos. Tokiu būdu stebima kaip efektyviai ir tiksliai panaudojamos reklaminės lėšos. Nusistačius reklaminės kampanijos tikslus bei stebint veiksmų efektyvumą, galima juos keisti taip, kad pasiektume trokštamų rezultatų. Digitisation of Copyrighted Works The thesis deals with the issue of digitisation of copyrighted works. The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive account of the digitisation phenomenon in relation to copyrighted works from the point of view of the Czech Copyright Act and to analyse two digitisation projects to identify practical issues and, if possible, solutions to these. The text is divided into five chapters, each of them dedicated to a different aspect of the topic presented. The first of the two introductory chapters focuses on the legal institute of copyrighted work as defined by the Copyright Act of the Czech Republic. The five subchapters analyse the concept of copyrighted work, examine legal fiction expanding the set of protected objects and specify the respective protected objects within the category of copyrighted works. The two subchapters comprising the following chapter study the phenomenon of digitisation from the factual point of view.
