Multi-state PLS based data-driven predictive modeling for continuous process analytics

Kumar, Vinay 09 July 2012 (has links)
Today’s process control industry, which is extensively automated, generates huge amounts of process data from the sensors used to monitor the processes. These data if effectively analyzed and interpreted can give a clearer picture of the performance of the underlying process and can be used for its proactive monitoring. With the great advancements in computing systems a new genre of process monitoring and fault detection systems are being developed which are essentially data-driven. The objectives of this research are to explore a set of data-driven methodologies with a motive to provide a predictive modeling framework and to apply it to process control. This project explores some of the data-driven methods being used in the process control industry, compares their performance, and introduces a novel method based on statistical process control techniques. To evaluate the performance of this novel predictive modeling technique called Multi-state PLS, a patented continuous process analytics technique that is being developed at Emerson Process Management, Austin, some extensive simulations were performed in MATLAB. A MATLAB Graphical User Interface has been developed for implementing the algorithm on the data generated from the simulation of a continuously stirred blending tank. The effects of noise, disturbances, and different excitations on the performance of this algorithm were studied through these simulations. The simulations have been performed first on a steady state system and then applied to a dynamic system .Based on the results obtained for the dynamic system, some modifications have been done in the algorithm to further improve the prediction performance when the system is in dynamic state. Future work includes implementing of the MATLAB based predictive modeling technique to real production data, assessing the performance of the algorithm and to compare with the performance for simulated data. / text

An Asynchronous Meta-Data Driven Web UI for Pricing of Structured Products

Lindström, Anders January 2015 (has links)
In the process of building maintainable and customizable software used and displayed in different mediums, a user interface (UI) that is auto-generated from meta-data can be built. That way minimal effort can be made when customizing the software. This thesis took place at the financial software company SunGard. Traders have requested a web based solution to one of SunGard's financial softwares, and will be used for managing structured products. The solution had to work with some already defined web and server components that SunGard is using. The web tool used for making a prototype and evaluating the suitability was AngularJS. As a result it was found that it was possible to create a meta-data driven UI. Some programmatic design issues when generating the UI are discussed.

AMMP-EXTN: A User Privacy and Collaboration Control Framework for a Multi-User Collaboratory Virtual Reality System

Ma, Wenjun 01 October 2007 (has links)
In this thesis, we propose a new design of privacy and session control for improving a collaborative molecular modeling CVR system AMMP-VIS [1]. The design mainly addresses the issue of competing user interests and privacy protection coordination. Based on our investigation of AMMP-VIS, we propose a four-level access control structure for collaborative sessions and dynamic action priority specification for manipulations on shared molecular models. Our design allows a single user to participate in multiple simultaneous sessions. Moreover, a messaging system with text chatting and system broadcasting functionality is included. A 2D user interface [2] for easy command invocation is developed in Python. Two other key aspects of system implementation, the collaboration Central deployment and the 2D GUI for control are also discussed. Finally, we describe our system evaluation plan which is based on an improved cognitive walkthrough and heuristic evaluation as well as statistical usage data.

Desenvolvimento de interfaces gráficas para estatística Bayesiana aplicada à comparação mista de tratamentos / Graphical User Interface development for Bayesian Statistics applied to Mixed Treatment Comparison

Marcelo Goulart Correia 12 September 2013 (has links)
Based on the progress made by the pharmaceutical industry, several medications have emerged to combat diseases. These drugs have similar topic effects but with subtle changes in their biochemical structure, thus competition between the pharmaceutical industry becomes increasingly fierce. In order to compare the effectiveness of these drugs, appear different methodologies with the objective of find what would be the best medicine for a given situation. One of the methods studied is the Mixed Treatment Comparision (MTC) whose objective is to find the effectiveness of certain drugs in studies and / or clinical trials that address, even if indirectly, the drugs studied. The use of this methodology is too complex because it requires knowledge of programming languages in statistical environments, beyond the mastery of the methodologies applied to this technique. The main objective of this study is to create a graphical user interface (GUI) that facilitates the use of MTC for users who have no knowledge in programming languages, which is open source and cross-platform. The expectation about this interface is that the use of more comprehensive and advanced techniques is facilitated, moreover, make the teaching about the topic easier for people who do not know the method

Sensor Placement and Graphical User Interface for Photovoltaic Array Monitoring System

January 2012 (has links)
abstract: With increased usage of green energy, the number of photovoltaic arrays used in power generation is increasing rapidly. Many of the arrays are located at remote locations where faults that occur within the array often go unnoticed and unattended for large periods of time. Technicians sent to rectify the faults have to spend a large amount of time determining the location of the fault manually. Automated monitoring systems are needed to obtain the information about the performance of the array and detect faults. Such systems must monitor the DC side of the array in addition to the AC side to identify non catastrophic faults. This thesis focuses on two of the requirements for DC side monitoring of an automated PV array monitoring system. The first part of the thesis quantifies the advantages of obtaining higher resolution data from a PV array on detection of faults. Data for the monitoring system can be gathered for the array as a whole or from additional places within the array such as individual modules and end of strings. The fault detection rate and the false positive rates are compared for array level, string level and module level PV data. Monte Carlo simulations are performed using PV array models developed in Simulink and MATLAB for fault and no fault cases. The second part describes a graphical user interface (GUI) that can be used to visualize the PV array for module level monitoring system information. A demonstration GUI is built in MATLAB using data obtained from a PV array test facility in Tempe, AZ. Visualizations are implemented to display information about the array as a whole or individual modules and locate faults in the array. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Electrical Engineering 2012
