Phases in the Cultural Transition Process of Icelandic Professional Handball Players Moved to Denmark

Magnússon, Magnús Karl January 2022 (has links)
The number of athletic migrants has increased over the last 20 years. In the past, transitions have been difficult for transnational and migrant athletes. The objective of this study was to explore professional cultural transition experiences of Icelandic handball players who moved to Denmark in terms of demands, resources, barriers, and coping strategies throughout three phases of the transition process. The study used a qualitative approach centred on postpositivism. Eight active professional handball players were interviewed about their cultural transition experiences on moving to Denmark, and the data was then analysed using a thematic analysis. The focus was to identify themes in the data within each category and phase of the transition. In the findings, we present an empirical model of the cultural transition of Icelandic professional handball players. The model provides a description of the players' transition experiences (i.e., perceived demands, resources, barriers, coping strategies, and outcomes) within each of the three cultural transition phases (pre-transition, acute cultural adaptation, and sociocultural adaptation). The empirical model can be useful for sport psychology practitioners working with handball players and sporting national governing bodies (NGB). The results can also be implemented by handball clubs in Iceland and in coaching education.

Effects of 16 weeks of Unilateral or Bilateral Resistance Training with Varying Movement Velocity on Measures of Power and Performance in Elite Women’s Handball Players

Elliott, Marie January 2016 (has links)
Background. Handball is a fast paced sport, with high velocity movements performed in a predominantly unilateral plane. In order to make training as specific as possible to on court movements, resistance training programmes should involve exercises that reflect the speed and stance of how they will be performed during gameplay however, working velocities are rarely prescribed due to the lack of research in the area. Aim. The aim of this study was (1) to determine the effect of three different training modes; unilateral high velocity (UHV), bilateral high velocity (BHV) and bilateral slow velocity (BSV) on vertical loaded and unloaded jumps, sprint, agility and balance. (2) To determine if any of these interventions had more of an effect when compared to each other. Methods. 29 women from four teams in the Swedish Elitserien participated in a 16-week intervention study. Teams were assigned to either UHV, who performed unilateral exercises with a high intended movement velocity, BHV, bilateral exercises at a high intended movement velocity, or BSV, who continued their regular bilateral slow velocity training. Power was assessed pre- and post-intervention by loaded vertical squat jump and countermovement jump (CMJ) both unilaterally and bilaterally. Performance assessments were conducted through 20m Sprints, agility T-test and Y-balance test. Effect sizes were calculated to determine the magnitude of differences from pre- to post-intervention in three training modes. One-way ANOVA determined if the group interactions were significant. Results. All three training modes increased their power output to varying levels and effect sizes. The UHV group demonstrated large effect sizes for all improvements in power output, whilst the BHV and BSV groups ranged from trivial to large. UHV got significantly faster at reaching time to peak velocity in unilateral and bilateral measures compared to both BHV and BSV (p=<0.05). Conclusion. The results suggest that a 16-week resistance training intervention regardless of stance improves power however to varying magnitudes. The high velocity groups showed greater improvements in measures of power and performance. This study suggests that resistance training at a high intended movement velocity may be beneficial for improving power and performance in elite women’s handball players.

Emotion and concentration regulation training in Swedish female handball players : A short-term IZOF-based intervention.

Olausson, David January 2014 (has links)
The objectives of this mixed-method intervention study were: (1) To examine idiosyncratic profiles of emotions and performance of 3-4 leading handball team players in successful and less successful games and identify their strengths and limitations in emotion-concentration regulation; (2) To develop, implement, and evaluate an intervention program aimed at optimizing the players' emotion-concentration regulation and performance. The participants (n= 4, age= 24,5) consisted of four female elite handball players from the same team. An emotion-performance profiling process was conducted to facilitate objective one. To facilitate objective two, a small group IZOF based short term intervention was developed and implemented. The participants’ emotion-performance profiles are presented. The evaluation of the intervention indicated that the intervention increased the participants’ awareness and knowledge, and stimulated psychological skills development (i.e., emotion regulation and concentration). Methodological issues, future directions, and implications are discussed.

Hållbarhet är målet : Hållbarhetsredovisning inom svensk elithandboll / Sustainability is the goal : Sustainability reporting within swedish professional handball

Otter, Malin, Samuelsson, Adam January 2019 (has links)
Nowadays Swedish professional handball clubs carry out extensive sustainability work. In addition to engaging many people through the activities of the associations, they also contribute positively to society through external projects and activities. Despite the work being carried out, the clubs are not that involved in disclosing their work in a sustainability report. Sustainability reporting aims to report the organization's impact on sustainable development and is an expression of social responsibility. The study is based on the legitimacy theory and stakeholder theory's assumptions about expectations and interactions with society. The study is focused on clubs that are active in the top league of Swedish men’s handball, Handbollsligan. The purpose of this study is to understand the reasons why Swedish professional handball clubs do not report sustainability, even though the theories and previous studies point out many benefits to it. The study has been performed in a two steps approach, a document study was performed first and then interviews. The document study of the club’s annual reports has shown a poor disclosure of sustainability information. Subsequently, interviews with representatives of the clubs have been carried out in order to generate an understanding of why the clubs do not report their sustainability work. The study shows that none of the Swedish professional handball clubs have a sustainability report and have a lack of sustainability information in their annual report. The study highlights several reasons why the clubs do not have sustainability reports. It indicates that the clubs instead choose to communicate the sustainability work they perform via social media and through their websites. Other reason is a lack of knowledge of what a sustainability report is and contains, and the deficiency of the resources required for elaborating the report. Further the clubs also experience low expectations and demands from stakeholders regarding sustainability reporting. Norms within the field of activity and the culture within the clubs also form the basis for the lack of sustainability disclosure. The study's contribution is primarily a guidance and an increased understanding for the clubs within Swedish professional handball regarding sustainability reporting.

Análise cinemática, cinética  e eletromiográfica da articulação do joelho durante a mudança de direção e execução do arremesso do handebol / Kinematics, Kinetic and electromyography analysis of the knee joint during sidestep cutting and handball pitch

Bedo, Bruno Luiz de Souza 01 April 2016 (has links)
Conclui-se que atletas universitários e profissionais apresentam padrões cinemáticos diferentes durante a execução de tarefas de mudanças de direção / Handball is a sport where there is mixture of speed, power, resistance, and especially the fast changes of direction. These changes are responsible for a high incidence of injuries in handball players. The rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is common in athletes and can occur in two different ways: with contact and non-contact. The ACL injuries non-contact (LCASC) represent 70 to 85% of injuries in athletes typically in the change of direction called \"sidestep\" (SID). Understand the risk factors and mechanisms of injury are some of the steps to prevent them. This study aims to analyze the biomechanical variables in the knee joint during the change of direction then a pitch in professional and college athletes of handball with and without visual information. All participants were female, 14 professional athletes (GP = 21.5 ± 2:58) and 15 the college athletes (GU = 22.4 ± 2.63). In total, 25 reflective markers were positioned on the trunk and lower limbs of the participant along with 10 electrodes placed on: gluteus medius, biceps femoris, rectus femoris, gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior. The angles were calculated by Euler angles and the angular velocity were calculated from the quaternions. The participants performed the SID, sidestep cutting Ball (SIDB), sidestep cutting with light (SIDluz) and sidestep cutting with ball and light (SIDBluz). We found greater flexion values in the CI and 40ms moments for GU in SID, SIDB and SIDBluz. GP has higher rotation values in 100ms after the IC in most tests. GP pointed high values of angular velocity (quaternions) in 100ms in SID, SIDluz and SIDBluz. GP also had higher angular speed in carrying out the tests: SIDluz, SIDB and SIDBluz. GU presented better rate of cocontraction (CC) compared GP in SIDluz, and GU pointed better CC in SID. GP presented greater contact time (TC) in SIDluz, SIDBluz and SID. Concludes that college and professional athletes have different kinematic patterns during the execution in changes of direction tasks

Análise das propostas e iniciativas da Confederação Brasileira de Handebol para o aprimoramento profissional / Analysis of proposals and initiatives of Brazilian Handball Confederation for professional development

Uezu, Rudney 29 August 2014 (has links)
The coach education in Brazil follows a model based on academic background, from the completion of the undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Sport. Although training with higher workload compared to the models adopted internationally, it is observed that only this initial training does not prepare adequately for the individual professional performance. In this sense, it is for the individual to seek specific actions for their specific professional development. The objective of this study was to analyze the initiatives undertaken by the Brazilian Handball Confederation for professional idevelopment and compare with international models developed in Germany and Spain, as well as the Canadian National Program, the pioneer in the area and the International Council for Coaching Excellence. For this, 11 official documents made available by the institution were analyzed. The results showed that the entity sought, in their actions, an approach with universities from organizing an event titled Brazilian\'s National Handball Teachers Meeting of Higher Education Institutions \"that in addition to enabling social interaction among academics, generated also some relevant to the development of handball proposals such as the creation of a National School of Referees and Coaches, a specialization course, editing a book to serve as a support and the creation of a scientific journal. However, many suggestions are still in the planning stages and have not been implemented. Finally, some adjustments to the proposal for professional development of coaches, from the analysis of international models of training and professional development were suggested

JAUNŲJŲ RANKININKŲ (15-16 m.) RENGIMO VALDYMAS VARŽYBŲ PERIODE / TRAINING MANAGEMENT OF JUNIOR HANDBALL PLAYERS AT COMPETITION PERIOD

Norvilas, Sigitas 28 August 2009 (has links)
Sports is a phenomenal social expression of human life wherein the issues of an individual’s sporting education tangle up with social, political and economic areas of public life. Different scientists analysed its phenomenon in various dimensions (Young, Smith, 1989; Allison, 2000; Guttman, 2000). Competition sports can be compared to a laboratory wherein skills are applied and demonstrated and value of decisions taken and actions made are (Parry, 1994; Decker, 1995). Sportsmen’s performance in a sports competition depends on purposeful training at all stages of sportsmen’s perennial training, i.e. it depends on sportsmen training management process (Karoblis, 1994, Skarbalius, 2003). The management aspects of the coach’s activities within a sports team are also emphasized (Верхошанский 1998; Starischka, 1999). Objective indicators of competition activities received at the time of studies allow to adjust and manage the process of sports training; to select and to foresee expediently the competition tactics in a contest with a particular competitor; to analyse theoretical management tendencies of the junior handball-players’ training process; to explore the peculiarities of the junior handball-players’ training process based on the analysis of attacking actions; to study the peculiarities of the junior handball-players’ training process based on the analysis of defensive actions.
