They are taking our women! ? - Analysing the changes in representations of men with an “Oriental” immigrant background as sexual predators in the Bremen newspaper Weser Kurier before and after the New Year’s night in Cologne 2015/2016

Schenk, Miriam January 2018 (has links)
Representing “Oriental” men as sexual predators in the media is a recurring theme that has proliferated since the New Year’s night in Cologne in 2015/2016. This study investigates how the representation of men with an immigrant background as sexual predators has developed in the year before and after the New Year’s night in Cologne in 2015/2016 in the Bremen local newspaper Weser Kurier. The aim of the study is to find out in what ways the representation of “Oriental” man has changed, how a moral panic is established, and how an idea of fear is created. To reach this aim Critical Discourse Analysis will be used in combination with theories concerned with “Othering”, moral panic and Orientalism. Because of the limited scope of this study, it should be considered as a base for future research into the field.

Šubrtová, Zuzana January 2021 (has links)
This master thesis focuses on the issue of sexual harassment in the media sector from the female journalists' perspective. Our goal was to investigate the emotional experience of journalists who were victims of sexual harassment. The methodology of research was thematic analysis. We analysed testimonies from eight respondents who currently work or worked in journalism. Few interesting concepts arise from the analysis, such as role of the power asymmetry or sexual objectification of female journalists. In conclusion, we defined specific aspects of sexual harassment in described sector and impact on the journalists' work reality.

Carrasco Lozano, Paola Karina, Panduro Tanchiva, Sheyla Roxana, Revilla Menéndez , Elena Mercedes 26 November 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this research work is to identify whether or not there is Labor Harassment or Mobbing against the workers of the company Ocean Pacific S.A.C. For this purpose, a complete survey of all the workers of said company will be presented, whose realization strictly incorporated the questionnaire called LIPT-60 (Leymann Inventory of Psychological Terrorization), created by the most important scholar and outstanding psychologist who has dedicated a good part of his life to investigate the Mobbing, its affectation against the collaborator and the space or ambient in which it can manifest itself, Dr. Heinz Leymann. This is not only intended to determine or not the existence of Mobbing or Workplace Harassment in the workers of Ocean Pacific SAC, but also to what extent this phenomenon affects their work performance, whether or not they are subject to continuous acts of discrimination and psychosocial consequences to those who are exposed; acts that in good account force them to leave the workplace. All this with the sole purpose of demonstrating that, there remains a need to create a protective procedure for protection of the worker subject to such affectation, taking into account that the Mobbing or labor harassment to date is not regulated in current legislation, being the Peru one of the Countries of the Region that is not aware of the urgency of said regulation. / Trabajo de Investigación

Assessing the online sexual harassment experiences of female students at a South African institution of higher learning

Sehlule, Thambo 18 May 2019 (has links)
MA (Sociology) / Department of Sociology / The use of social media has in the last decade become popular among students in Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL). Social relationships and communications among students mostly take place on social networks. However, because of their growing popularity abuse is also increasing on these social media platforms. Female students are particularly vulnerable to sexual harassment and other forms of abuse on these platforms. This study explored the experiences of online sexual harassment among female students at a selected Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) in South Africa. This was to gain insights into the extent to which female students in institutions of Higher Learning are affected by this phenomenon. In particular, the study sought to find out the different forms of online sexual harassment experienced by female students in IHL, the specific types of online platforms where this sexual harassment take place, and the coping strategies employed by these students to cope with online sexual harassment. To address these objectives, the study adopted a qualitative exploratory design which allowed understanding of these experiences through the eyes of the victims. Twenty female participants were used for the study, while semi structured interviews were employed to collect data from these individuals. Purposive and critical case sampling technique was used to identify female students who had experienced sexual harassment online in the IHL. Findings reveal that sexual harassment at the IHL has occurred mostly in the form soliciting and sending of inappropriate pictures and videos to the victims. The study also revealed that the two main platforms on which sexual harassment of female students took place were WhatsApp and Facebook. While the main strategies of coping with online sexual harassment were blocking of harassers and complete disregard of the harassers. / NRF

Výskyt sexuálního obtěžování studujících na českých vysokých školách v roce 2018 - porovnání s výzkumem z roku 2008 / Sexual harassment of Czech university students in 2018 - comparison with 2008 research

Dvořáková, Dominika January 2019 (has links)
The principal objective of my thesis was to find out what changes in sexual harassment of university students have occurred since 2008/2009 when the research project Sexual harassment at university: occurrence and perception was carried out. In the theoretical part I describe the term sexual harassment, specifics of the university environment and at the end of the theoretical part I show negative effects of sexual harassment and outline possible ways how to prevent it. In the methodological part I describe the research itself. I interviewed a total of 946 students using a questionnaire survey to find out what forms of sexual harassment students most often face, whether women perceive annoying behaviour more critically than men and whether they have more experience with it and also how students define sexual harassment. The analysis of the results showed that there were no major changes in the total share of students who experienced the sexual harassment by their teachers compared to the previous research. At the same time, some types of harassing behaviour have become more frequent (e.g. abusive behaviour due to being a man or a woman, ridiculing students' appearance). Skyddet mot sexuella trakasserier i arbetslivet / The Protection Against Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

Gustavsson, Emma January 2020 (has links)
In 2017 a wave of interest from the public rose regarding the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. Questions were posed and included whether or not Swedish labor law and was sufficient enough. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the established law connected to sexual harassment in the workplace and by doing so also investigate the possibilities of repairing some of the flaws in the legislation. Furthermore, the paper studies the balance between repressive and active measures. This will be done by studying the established law, cases from AD and also by studying other literature regarding the subject. And by doing so it has become clear that there are many different legislations in place combat the issue regarding sexual harassment in the workplace. However, the issues still remain. The active measures are not sufficient. The employer has a duty to work to prevent the occurrence of sexual harassment in the workplace. However, the measures taken against an employer that does not do this are slim to none. The legislation regarding retribution after the fact are more efficient however they do not successfully prevent the occurrence of sexual harassment. The main hinderers with the function of the repressive measures are due to the power structures existing in society where woman have difficulty asserting themselves and their rights. By removing the parts of the legislation that have a clear connection to the power structures together with increased supervision from the supervising bodies may result in a more efficient way of combatting sexual harassment in the workplace.

The threats from China : A case study over how the Swedish media respond and is affected by threats and harassment from Chinese authorities

Grip, Julia January 2020 (has links)
In 2018, there was clear evidence that Sweden was targeted of China’s attempts to influence their media. The Chinese embassy started criticising Swedish news reporting through insults or even threats. Since 2017 the Chinese ambassador has been summoned more than 40 times to the Swedish foreign department for his spiteful attacks on the media. This thesis examines how the Swedish media has responded and is affected by threats and harassment from Chinese authorities from 2018 to 2020. The thesis is based on interviews with 10 participants from the Swedish media, and documents. The thesis shows, that threats and harassment from Chinese authorities is a unique behaviour from a state towards the Swedish media. The response to the threats and harassment is seen through strategies of adding security, showing solidarity and support and showing resistance. The affect on the Swedish media can increase a self-censorship culture, regarding reporting about China. It has made the Swedish media worried in the working and daily life. In the long run, the threats and harassment can have a negative impact on the independent journalism and the Swedish democratic society.

An Interpretive Policy Analysis of Bullying Law and the Development of Bullying Policy in a Central Florida School District

Richman, Scott D. 26 March 2010 (has links)
Bullying has been an issue in schools and became a major concern for school leaders over the past two decades. Olweus (1993) defined three characteristics of bullying behavior: intent to harm another, repeated offenses, and a perceived or real power imbalance. This study examined the law's provisions concerning bullying in schools; specifically examining the Florida Jeffrey Johnston Stand Up for All Student Act (2008), and the required policy implemented in Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS). Discourse theory framed the study, as defined by Habermas (1996) and the derivative Interpretive Policy Analysis was used to analyze the district policy, as defined by Yanow (2000). The study utilized four research questions to examine bullying law and policy: what constitutional, statutory, and case law said about bullying; bullying policies in literature; development of bullying policy and how closely it matched law. Constitutional law laid the foundation of the school system. Statutory law provided more details and at the state level, defined requirements concerning bullying. Bullying laws existed in 44 states, the majority addressing one or more of Olweus' components. HCPS developed its xii bullying policy in the fall, 2008, closely following requirements of Florida bullying law. The district had a student conduct policy prior to new requirements and a violence prevention committee (VPC) met monthly. The VPC formed a smaller committee including administrators, teachers, parents, students, and law enforcement members, to develop the policy. The committee examined each component of the state model policy, and either used the item verbatim or added additional information specific to HCPS. The district exceeded state requirements for some items such as extending the definition of bullying to include employees and visitors. Overall, bullying laws were designed to protect students from harmful behaviors. The district policy was designed to achieve this task; however, it was also seen as a means to avoid lawsuits and to protect the district's interests. Implications included the need to update laws/policies continually to reflect the current times, such as new technologies, and the interpretation of laws and eventual implementation in schools. In addition, the interpretive policy analysis process used in this study could be applied to other studies examining the policy development process.
