Hälsokultur : När idéer om välmående leder till ohälsa / Health Culture : When ideas about wellbeing leads to illness

Andersson, Josefin, Jansson, Veronica January 2013 (has links)
Health has become increasingly important in the community and has been taken into the labour market to a greater extent. Organizations are trying to keep up with the development of health in the society and working strategically to promote employee health through a variety of fitness activities. The community is contributing to a new vision of the individual where the aesthetic appearance is of growing importance. The employers are trying to keep up with this development and provide an increasing range of fitness activities and from this expect high performing employees. The health promotion today is more about maintaining good looks than previously, where focus was to combat disease. The various health promotion activities are performed on the employee's time off, which means that it will be yet more difficult to distinguish between work and leisure. Not all of the employees will take part in health activities, offered by the company, because of interest, family situation and more. This could lead to that groupings occur to categorize the employees of the "good" and the "bad". One natural question to ask is can this contribute to stress and higher pressure amongst workers? And furthermore can it even cause illness? This study deals with how companies get greater responsibility and interest in employee health and in what way that this is handled. The two main questions analysed are if the concept "health culture" can describe how employees perceive the atmosphere regarding health?  And, how do they experience the promoted health activities? To investigate the experiences of a precise phenomenon a qualitative study through interviews has been carried out. The interviews were conducted at one company, with variation by age, gender and occupation. The primary outcome from the results is that employers work with health promotion activities to reduce costs, reduce sick leave and increase efficiency. The experiences of health promotion were mostly positive but it emerged underlying negative sides. In some cases, it was found that the employees experience stress because they do not want or have the time to participate in the activities offered. Finally, the concept of health culture was never seen used before. No other term, describing the same property, was found. It is therefore suggested as a concept to describe what is experienced inside an organization regarding common norms, perception and values of health.

Regulace emocí v perspektivě vývoje, zdraví a kultury jedince / Emotion regulation in the perspective of development, health and culture of an individual

Poláčková Šolcová, Iva January 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the emotion regulation. The author presents a theoretical concept of emotion regulation and deals with the theoretical development of emotion regulation across the human lifespan. In the empirical part, the author presents three papers. The first deals with the emotion regulation in relation to the health of the individual. The study shows that unhealthy individuals suppress significantly more emotions and affective phenomena compared to healthy individuals. The second study deals with the display rules of basic emotions in a sample of Czech undergraduate students. The last paper is a cross-cultural survey comparing the frequency of emotions experienced by its participants and the emotion regulation strategies in the group of Czech and Slovak undergraduate students. Emotion regulation in this study appears to be a significant factor of cultural differences: Slovak participants access open and authentic expression of emotions significantly more often than the Czech participants. The presented thesis is a contribution to the existing understanding of emotion regulation with regard to the development, health and culture of the individual. Development and evaluation of a training program in cross-cultural psychiatric assessment for crisis assessment and treatment teams (CATTs)

Stolk, Yvonne Unknown Date (has links) (PDF)
The aim of the current project was to improve the cross-cultural clinical competence of mental health staff in Victoria’s Crisis Assessment and Treatment Teams (CATTs) by developing, delivering and evaluating a training program in Cross-Cultural Psychiatric Assessment (CPA). The project was guided by a program logic framework. A literature review demonstrated cross-cultural differences in manifestations of mental disorders and disparities in mental health service provision to racial and ethnic groups, suggesting clinician bias, unfamiliarity with cross-cultural manifestations, or delayed help-seeking by ethnic groups. No research has been identified into crisis service provision to ethnic communities. (For complete abstract open document)

The building of a Health Culture includes the implementation of health and wellness programs in the workplace. These programs are a set of strategies composed of programs, policies, benefits and environmental support, in order to meet the health and safety needs of employees and their families. It is essential that hospitals promote health and well-being to their workforce and perform diagnosis to evaluate their actions. The study aimed to identify actions of health promotion and well-being implemented in three non-profit hospitals as perceived by research subjects: managers of human resource, benefits, health plans and health and wellness promotion, as well as members of health promotion committees. After the literature review, the researcher interviewed these subjects and applied the Brazilian version of the CDC Worksite Health ScoreCard. Data treatment was done through descriptive statistical analysis and content analysis, using NVivo Pro 11 software and subsequent triangulation of data. Results based on the answers provided by the subjects showed that hospitals have effective health and wellness programs, with peculiarities that reflect the policies and culture of each of them. Other results noticed failures in measuring results, their impacts and dissemination, as well as the dissociation of actions regarding the prevention of risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases.

The Swedish Armed Forces as a health culture

Liljegren, Elin, Tagesson, Johanna January 2018 (has links)
The Swedish Armed Forces is one of Sweden’s largest authorities and has the task of acting as the country’s defense. The study was conducted through a cooperation with the Swedish Armed Forces in Halmstad with the aim of illustrating the way in which the Swedish Armed Forces in Halmstad work to promote the physical activity of the employees in order to achieve the basic requirements according to the Swedish Armed Forces Physical Standard. The aim was also to study the employee’s training habits and which factors they perceive could influence their tendency to train during working hours via a health theoretical perspective. The survey was sent out to 325 employees at the Swedish Armed Forces in Halmstad, three interviews were conducted with three employees which work with physical activity. The result from the survey showed that the main reason why most employees don’t train during working hours were because of high workload and time constraints. The result from the interviews showed that great concern exist fore the fall of 2018 when more employees will come with already narrow spaces and they won’t be enough to promote and support everyone who will need it. In conclusion the study can prove that the Swedish Armed Forces in Halmstad work actively to promote physical activity, although they should work to increase a more accepting and open climate, were dialogues are encouraged. It is suggested that the Swedish Armed Forces in Halmstad should look over their current health culture and further through health promotion complement the work that exists now, but also nurture the actual cultures that promote physical activity.
