Polo Cerdá, Manuel 21 January 2016 (has links)

Pérez i Garcia, Víctor 04 February 2011 (has links)
This thesis consist of a methodical, scientific and rigorous study of the fortifications (city walls, forts and watchtowers) of the Conventus Tarraconensis in the context of the military infrastructure of the Roman empire.

Rovira Guardiola, Rosario 10 November 2004 (has links)
The aim of my PhD research project, "Trade relations between Hispania and eastern provinces", was to study a period of Roman History, first century BC to second century AD, in which trade relations in the Mediterranean change from private to a complex mixture of public and private interests. The other aim of the research was to study the economic relation between East and West Mediterranean inside the Roman World. To study both, I chose the presence of western products in Egypt. There is an important economic change in the Mediterranean area along the late republic period. It is during the first century B. C. that a group of independent traders with political connections get stronger. Along with the creation of this group, a series of events like the destruction of Delos an a change in the agricultural economy of Italy increase the importance of this change. The creation of the Roman Empire with a August is mainly a political creation but from the economic point of view the basis were already created. The trade dynamic created during the first century B. C. stems from the activities of two closely related groups two groups. One is the great trade families that can be found in harbours of the Eastern Mediterranean, such as Delos. The other group is the wealthy Romans who become involved with trade life once Italic Peninsula is conquered. At the end of Republic and the beginning of Imperial Era, the great trade families and the Roman elite were drawn together by the profits and demanded of empire, the needs of the traders for political support and protection and the desire of the politicians for money, being difficult to draw a line between public and private his marks, a new era in trade relations.

Identidades políticas e políticas identitárias na Gália Merovíngia e Hispânia Visigoda / Political identities and identities politics in Merovingian Gaul and Visigothic Hispania

Verônica da Costa Silveira 28 May 2015 (has links)
The research is a comparative study about the construction of identities as political strategies in the context of political polarization of Merovingian Gaul and Visigothic Hispania. Working with the analysis of diverse narrative genres as Historiae, Laws and Hagiographies the inquiry aims to indicate the deliberate plurality of the identity discourses in the Gens Francorum and the Gens Gothorum due to the complexity and diversity of political issues.

As thermae e balnea nas hispaniae romanae II a.C. - III d.C. / The Thermae and Balnea in Hispaniae Romanae IIB.C. - III A.D.

Alex dos Santos Almeida 26 March 2015 (has links)
The research aims to study the architecture, materials and the construction techniques of Roman baths, known by the Latin terms Thermae and Balnea, in their urban areas in the three provinces of the Iberian Peninsula - Hispania Tarraconensis, Hispania Baetica and Hispania Lusitania. To this end, we rely on the theoretical-methodological assumptions of the Archaeology of Construction and the Archaeology of the Built Environment. In addition to the architectural-construction aspects, we focus on the thermal heating technology in its various structural facilities; Roman heating technology which is known in archaeological literature by the Latin term hypocaustum. Also, we address sociocultural aspects associated with baths such as the practice of evergestism by members of the elite and the romanization as a factor of cultural change. Next, we present a summary about the development of urbanism and the insertion of the baths in the cities. Finally, we analyze the typology and terminology issues regarding baths.

Království Vizigótů: Podmínky a aspekty získání královské moci / Kingdom of the Visigoths: Terms and Aspects of Takeover of the Royal Power

Mestek, Oto January 2021 (has links)
Gothic tribes settled on the lower Danube and on the northern shore of the Black Sea entered in the year 376 the territory of the Roman Empire. This was followed by fierce fighting and migration of the Goths, who passed through the Balkans and Italy and reached Aquitaine in 413, where they settled temporarily. Here, originally various Gothic groups were formed into the one tribe gens, which we now call Visigoths. The pressure of the Franks from the north forced the Visigoths to leave Aquitaine at the beginning of the 6th century and move on to the Iberian Peninsula. Here the Visigoths established their own Kingdom of Toledo. Because the Visigoths at the time of their formation were not a homogeneous group, but rather a lose conglomerate of various barbarian groups and military units, they had no tradition of appointing their rulers. For this reason, they created the mechanism of the royal elections. Vallia was the first elected king in 415. During Visigothic history, a sequence of elected kings was disrupted several times by attempts of some kings to enforce a hereditary monarchy. This led in 633 to the enactment of the royal elections at the 4th Council of Toledo. Other ecclesiastical councils further improved the principles of election. The work will focus on the development of the Visigothic...

Reassembling the Iberians : rain, road, coins, crops and settlement in central Hispania Citerior, 206-27 B.C

Naylor, Benjamin Walden January 2017 (has links)
This thesis investigates Iberian communities in central Hispania Citerior during the Roman Republic. I demonstrate the usefulness of an actor-network approach for understanding a topic characterised by scarce archaeological datasets. This approach is not intended to create a new narrative for Roman Provincial Studies but instead allows us to ask new questions: what was at stake for these communities? What was of interest to the Iberians? How did things happen? Iberians lived primarily in small, often fortified settlements in elevated locations, although some larger settlements are known and during the Republic many sites were abandoned for new locations on flatter ground. I find that throughout the period settlements were often clustered, creating communities distributed in small groups of sites. These Iberian groups grew versatile staple crops in a variety of locations but may have tailored additional crops to regional environmental conditions. I consider the potential for collaboration in the autumn ploughing and conclude that any such collaboration must have relied on dense and wide relationships given changing patterns of variability in rainfall. I show differences within coin circulation that suggest Iberian coins were part of distinct sets of relationships. I also test the ability of carts to pass over various long-distances routes and find that some coins were bound up in the same assemblages as cart transport. The thesis positions the interface between all these different assemblages as crucial to further work on these communities.

Our research applies on an investigation about how the universe linked to the apocalyptic Christian – more specifically the concepts the concepts on Revelations and the Gospel of Salvation – were appropriated by the Beatus of Liébana in the Hispanic High Middle Ages to write his Commentary of Revelations and how, from this masterpiece, the ideas were used in the process of creation e dissemination of a Christian referent – representation – concerned to point of view. So, we focuses the relation between “the world of readers” and “the word of the book”, that is, we highlight the reading and writing practices that permeated the production, distribution and reading of the Beatus Apocalypse. It was our duty to think how a culture that used to privilege oral records, like that one in the High Middle Ages, was supported by that written text to, before it, produce a meaning and build a Christian standardization of the social-religious universe. Consequently, our objective was regarded in looking for the traces of the reading habit that accompanied the destinations of Beatus Apocalypse and in the evidences that the revelations may give us in order to comprehend such manuscripts as speech (process), showing points of its coherence (interaction with the reader) and its intention (meaning effect).
