Previous issue date: 2018-06-27 / This research looks for to extend the knowledge on the history of the women, being taken as base and example the history of the women beats. Before going into in the history of the women who had been part of this generation, we made an analysis on the contracultural movement Beat generation, the historical context of the period and, after these considerations, we ponder of that forms the women were inserted inside of the circle. As research source, we use the autobiográfico book of the writer beat Carolyn Cassady -, My Years With Cassady, Kerouac and Ginsberg -, to be able to understand as it inserted itself in the movement and as the men beats, exactly that involuntarily, they strengthened the sort papers. At the same time, we search to analyze the United States society of the second half of century XX, to be able to understand which they had been the places denied to the women and of that forms the relations of being able and the imaginary one on the place of each one had been being constituted. We lead in consideration, also, the difficulties in if studying the women in history. For the analyses that in we consider them to make, it is important to evaluate as the society dealt with these women, which was the relations of being able that already they permeavam the society and of which forms these relations (reverse speed) were constructed and strengthened daily. As cloth of deep, we take in consideration the history of the women and the deletion of these personages in our history, memory and in our books, that is, of that it forms these absences in /de the historical sources daily are reflected in the didactic materials and taught History/learned. We look for to extend the notion of the importance of the women in history and memory, not leaving that the silence and the deletion of its lives and histories hinder its appearance in the historical knowledge and the History taught in classrooms. / Este trabalho busca aprofundar o conhecimento sobre a história das mulheres, tomando como base e exemplo a história das mulheres beats. Antes de adentrarmos na história das mulheres que fizeram parte dessa geração, fizemos uma breve análise sobre o movimento contracultura que ficou conhecido como Beat generation, o contexto histórico do período e, após essas considerações, ponderamos de que formas as mulheres estavam inseridas dentro do círculo. Como fonte de pesquisa, utilizamos o livro autobiográfico da escritora beat Carolyn Cassady –,My Years With Cassady, Kerouac and Ginsberg –, para podermos compreender como ela se inseria no movimento e como os homens beats, mesmo que involuntariamente, reforçavam os papéis de gênero. Ao mesmo tempo, buscamos analisar a sociedade estadunidense da segunda metade do século XX, para podermos entender quais foram os lugares denegados às mulheres e de que formas as relações de poder e o imaginário sobre o lugar de cada um foram sendo constituídas. Levamos em consideração, também, as dificuldades em se estudar as mulheres na história. Para as análises que nos propomos a fazer, é importante avaliarmos como a sociedade lidava com essas mulheres, quais eram as relações de poder que já permeavam a sociedade e de quais formas essas relações eram (re)construídas e reforçadas diariamente. Como pano de fundo, levamos em consideração a história das mulheres e o apagamento dessas personagens em nossa história, memória e, consequentemente, em nossos livros, ou seja, de que forma essas ausências nas/das fontes históricas são diariamente refletidas nos materiais didáticos e na História ensinada/aprendida. Procuramos ampliar a noção da importância das mulheres na história e memória, não deixando que o silêncio e o apagamento de suas vidas e histórias impeçam a sua aparição no conhecimento histórico e na História ensinada em salas de aula.

O presente estudo teve o objetivo de analisar o processo histórico da desanexação da Escola de Enfermagem de São Paulo - EEUSP - da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo FMUSP. Para tanto, pretendeu-se apontar alguns antecedentes assim como descrever sumariamente a conjuntura da enfermagem no país e a fundação dessa Escola. Este estudo qualitativo descritivo tem como interesse a garantia da memória da profissão de enfermagem e da EEUSP, incentivando a concretização da identidade desta profissão, através da análise de diversas fontes encontradas sobre o processo de desanexação da EEUSP. Entre essas, o Boletim do SESP, imagens fotográficas, cartas de Miss Tennant e Sr. Sopper da Fundação Rockefeller, edições da Revista Médico-Social, documentos e relatórios da fundação Rockefeller sobre a criação da Escola de Enfermagem de São Paulo, as Atas do Conselho Técnico e Administrativo Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) e da Congregação da mesma instituição, assim como também as Atas da Associação Brasileira de Enfermagem, Seção de São Paulo (ABEn - SP), Conselho Técnico Acadêmico da Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade de São Paulo (EEUSP) e no arquivo da Reitoria, as ATAS do Conselho Universitário da Universidade de São Paulo (CO-USP). A análise dos diversos documentos encontrados possibilitou realizar um breve apanhado histórico da fundação da Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade de São Paulo até sua desanexação. Para tanto, foi necessário ampliar o olhar e conhecer um pouco das instituições e personagens que estão diretamente ligadas a essa história, como a própria Universidade de São Paulo, Faculdade de Medicina, alguns de seus diretores e a própria Escola de Enfermagem da USP e suas primeiras diretoras. Com amplo apoio da elite intelectual, política e econômica paulista, a Universidade de São Paulo foi criada pelo Decreto nº 6233, de 25 de janeiro de 1934 e congregou as outras faculdades que já existiam. A Escola de Enfermagem deveria ser criada como universitária conectada a Faculdade de Medicina, ao Instituto de Higiene a ao Hospital das Clínicas, a intenção da construção de importante centro de excelência em saúde, sempre integrado: a Faculdade de Medicina, o Instituto de Higiene e a futura Escola de Enfermagem. O planejamento do mais importante complexo de saúde da América Latina firmava o claro princípio da integralidade. Com a recomendação do Presidente Juscelino Kubitscheck de que as obstetrizes sejam formadas nas escolas de enfermagem num regime de uma fase de ensino comum e outra diversificada e em virtude da USP manter uma conceituada escola de enfermagem, com toda a estrutura necessária para a formação dos dois profissionais e as contribuições de Maria Rosa Sousa Pinheiro foi determinante para concretização do processo de desanexação. / This study aimed at analyzing the historical process of the School of Nursings detachment from the University of São Paulo (USP), Medical School (FMUSP) to which it was annexed when created. To this end, a study was done in order to point out some background on nursing status at the time of the foundation of the Nursing School (EEUSP). This is a qualitative, historical and descriptive study. It intends to preserve the memory of the nursing profession and of the School, and to encourage the finding of the professions identity profession, through the analysis of several sources found within the process of detaching the School of Nursing. Among the documentation found, the \"Bulletin of the SESP (Public Health Special Service)\", photographs, letters from Miss Tennant and Mr. Soper, (representatives of the Rockefeller Foundation), old editions of the Medical-Social journal, reports from the Rockefeller Foundation related to the establishment of the Nursing School of Sao Paulo, Minutes of the FMUSP Technical and Administrative Committee and of the Congregation (its highest body), as well as the minutes of the Brazilian Nursing Association, São Paulo Section (ABEn - SP), of the Nursing School itself found in the file of the Rectory, and the minutes of the University Council, the highest body at the University of São Paulo (USP-CO). Analysis of several documents found facilitated the understanding related to the founding of this School of Nursing, University of São Paulo until its detachment from the Medical School. For this purpose, it was necessary to broaden perspectives and learn a little more about these institutions and their characters directly related to this history, some of their principals and first deans. The University of São Paulo was established by Decree no. 6233, on 25th January 1934, and gathered other colleges that already existed. The School of Nursing was planned to be created within this University, annexed to the Medical School, as Nursing did not have much autonomy at that time. The Medical School needed a hospital for practice of medical students. Therefore a hospital was also founded in the 40s and it became nowadays the largest health complex in Latin America, with thousands of beds and all medical and health specialties, a real excellence center. The principle of comprehensiveness. At the recommendation of President Juscelino Kubitschek that midwives are trained in nursing schools in a system of one phase of education policy and other diverse and because of the USP to maintain a reputable nursing school, with the entire infrastructure necessary for the formation of two professionals and the contributions of Maria Rosa Sousa Pinheiro was crucial to completing the process of detaching.

Émilie du Châtelet och Madame de Pompadour : Konstruktionen av två femmes savantes: En komparativ bildstudieKehl, Renate January 2021 (has links)
This study compares and analyses four portraits of Émilie du Châtelet and four of Madame de Pompadour who were two of the most learned and privileged women of their time. The analysis is based on Erwin Panofsky’s iconological method of analysis of art and looks at the impact of gender related conventions that influenced portraiture in the early 18th century. The overall aim of this study is to answer these questions: What differences and/or similarities can be found among their portraits? Why do only relatively few portraits of Émilie du Châtelet exist? What emphasized these two ladies’ status and the unique position as femmes savantes and how did tradition influence their portraits? Education was a male privilege. How was the female equivalent formed? How did their portraits correspond to the male counterpart? Émilie du Châtelet’s portrait of Marianne Loir is the only one that was painted by a female artist. How did that influence the portrait and what distinguishes it from the other portraits? The study shows that the paintings’ compositions follow the convention of the early 18th century portraiture. Both Émilie du Châtelet and Madame de Pompadour are presented according to the rules that applied to their social and cultural status. A number of relevant symbols were added to their figures in order to mark their unique position as learned women.

The thesis, 'Marriage in the period of normalisation: Stories of Women who got married between 1970 and 1989', focuses on the wedding rate in Czechoslovakia during normalisation period, 20 years after Soviet occupation. The analysis is done in the context of governmental family and population politics and endeavours of normalisation regime to support marriage and natality rate. The present study describes measures which the government introduced in the 70's and their justification. The focus falls also on the influence of demographic behaviour and how this behaviour was unique and exceptional during normalisation period. The whole study is based on the fact that personal testimony of narrators can contribute to an understanding of the human aspect of our history. The qualitative research method used was oral-historical interviews recording the experience of 6 women. The study analyses their decision making factors to enter the institution of marriage, what was young families' economic situation and how they perceived and exploited state support system for young families. This thesis helps understanding women in this specific period of normalisation as well as the period itself, given the fact that in the 70's and 80's the betrothed couples were the youngest and marriage rate was the highest in the...

Women in British Nonconformity, circa 1880-1920, with special reference to the Society of Friends, Baptist Union and Salvation ArmyLauer, Laura Elizabeth January 1997 (has links)
The reclamation and analysis of women's experiences within three Nonconformist denominations is the focus of this thesis. The first chapter places each denomination in its social and theological context, and describes its governing structures. The bulk of the thesis is devoted to situating women within this context and examining the ways in which women sought representation within male-dominated governing structures. Chapter two examines the conflict between Friends' egalitarian theology and women's lack of governing power. Although women Friends gained access to the governing body of the Society, the issue of equality remained problematic. The chapter finishes with a discussion of the Society's split over women's suffrage. The Baptist Zenana Mission is the focus of the third chapter. Zenana missionaries claimed spiritual and imperial authority over "native" women and used the languages of separate spheres to carve out a vocation for single women in keeping with denominational norms. In so doing, they marginalised the work done by missionary wives. The fourth chapter begins with an examination of the life and theology of Catherine Booth, whose contribution to the Salvation Army is often neglected. Catherine advocated women's ministry in terms that validated both "women's work for women" and public preaching. This chapter looks at the appeal of officership for women, especially the empowering experiences of salvation and holiness, and charts the growth of the Women's Social Work. Despite the Army's egalitarian theology, conflict was felt by women officers who struggled to combine corps and family duties. The final chapter briefly examines idealised representations of women to conclude that their defining power, while significant, was by no means hegemonic.

Les femmes sont-elles violentes ? Simple question qui appelle a priori une réponse évidente mais qui dans les faits semble avoir quelques difficultés à retrouver une réponse. Vision biaisée, regards troublés, les lectures du rapport des femmes à la violence tendent à réduire, à minimiser ou à réfuter l'exercice quotidien d'une violence féminine renvoyée à l'exceptionnel et à l'anormalité. Les femmes seraient par définition moins violentes que les hommes. Mais quels sont les fondements de pareil postulat ? Afin d'y réfléchir ont été investies dans le cadre de cette thèse les archives du tribunal de la sénéchaussée de Marseille afin de questionner les formes, les occasions et les expériences de la violence ordinaire auxquelles les femmes étaient confrontées. Se défaisant de l'idée d'un phénomène jugé mineur et ponctuel, les sources exploitées ont permis d'appréhender l'ordinaire des violences marseillaises, resituant aux sexes la part respective qui leur revient en la matière et permettant de nuancer l'idée d'une faible participation féminine aux actes violents ainsi qu'une réflexion sur les formes et manifestations des violences. Les femmes tout à tour actrices et victimes de ces usages tiennent une place fondamentale au sein de la société des voisins qu'elles envahissent, modèlent et contrôlent en partie. La litigiosité féminine a constitué l'angle d'approche retenu pur considérer au travers du regard judiciaire et de ses imperfections, le quotidien ordinaire d'une ville importante d'Ancien Régime : Marseille. La violence est processeur d'une dynamique sociale à laquelle les femmes prennent activement part, qu'elle la subissent ou qu'elles l'exercent. / Are Women violent? The answer to this simple question would seem a priori obvious, but in fact it is difficult to offer a convincing explanation. Statistics and data on female violence tend to reduce, minimize or disprove the idea that female violence might take place on a daily basis, suggesting rather that it is the exception, or at the very least an abnormal occurrence. Apparently, women are inherently less violent than men. But what is the basis for such a premise? In order to answer this question, we have studied the records of the Seneschal of Marseilles' court. These judicial archives allow us to understand the forms, opportunities and experience of everyday violence that women faced. Setting aside the idea that this was a minor and irregular phenomenon, these sources provide evidence of violence in the everyday life of Marseilles' inhabitants and attribute to each sex their proper place in this behavior, while enabling a nuanced analysis of the idea that women were less inclined to violence and providing insight into the forms and manifestations of such violence. Women, both actresses and victims of these practices, were key players within the society in their ability to enter, shape and partially control their neighbourhood. By studying cases presented to the courts by women, it is possible to adopt the judge's perspective, with its insight and imperfections, of daily life of a major city under the Old Regime: Marseilles. Violence was a social dynamic process in which women were actively involved, whether as victims or aggressors. By comparing analytical tools and approaches of sources, it is possible to study both the working and the elite classes.

A primeira Lei Geral da Instrução Pública, de 15 de outubro de 1827, foi um marco na história da educação brasileira por prever a possibilidade de criação de escolas de primeiras letras de meninas nas cidades e vilas mais populosas pelos presidentes e conselhos provinciais. Em São Paulo, as primeiras cinco cadeiras foram criadas em 1828 e providas por meio de concurso público e desde esse ano até 1860, 88 escolas foram criadas e 136 professoras as ocuparam. Compreender a invenção do magistério público feminino no universo da história das mulheres trabalhadoras e da sociedade paulista oitocentista é o objetivo desta investigação. Como fio para alinhavar a narrativa, elegemos a primeira professora pública da Província, Benedita da Trindade do Lado de Cristo. A trama é tecida a partir de questões, espaços, polêmicas, relações e tradições identificadas, inicialmente, em sua trajetória e ampliada para a experiência docente coletiva das mestras. As interpretações são construídas recorrendo-se ao aporte teórico metodológico da história social, história do cotidiano e micro história, e da contribuição de pesquisas sobre história das mulheres e história da educação. As fontes da pesquisa formam um conjunto variado constituído por manuscritos do Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo; legislação e relatórios da Instrução Pública e de presidentes da Província; periódicos; documentação censitária; registros visuais; registros de batismo; relatos de viagens e literatura memorialista. O estudo está organizado em quatro capítulos. No primeiro, buscamos delinear os contornos do mundo do trabalho feminino, no qual destacamos as diversas possibilidades de ser mulher que povoaram as experiências na São Paulo oitocentista, com as profundas desigualdades sociais, de gênero e raciais de um país escravista. No segundo, passamos às questões específicas da docência feminina. As experiências destas mulheres no magistério evidenciam o quanto elas se valeram das possibilidades em cena, afirmando, modificando e rompendo com os destinos mais recorrentes; para além da educação, contam sobre o ser mulher e o protagonismo feminino possível no século XIX. / The first General Law of Public Instruction, of October 15, 1827, is a milestone in the history of Brazilian education, as it authorizes provincial presidents and councils to create schools of first letters for girls in the cities and more populous villages. In São Paulo, the first five chairs were founded in 1828 and provided by means of public entrance examination and from this year to 1860, 88 schools were created and 136 teachers occupied them. This research aims to understand the invention of female public teaching regarding the history of working women and of the nineteenth-century society of São Paulo. As guideline to this study, we elected the first female public teacher of the Province, Benedita da Trindade do Lado de Cristo, in whose trajectory we initially identify questions, spaces, polemics, relationships and traditions that are then extended to the teachers collective teaching experience. The interpretations and methodology are based on social history theories, history of daily life and micro history, and on research on womens history and history of education. The sources of the research form a varied set consisting of manuscripts from the Public Archive of the State of São Paulo; legislation and reports of the Public Instruction and of provincial presidents; newspapers; visual records; baptismal records; travel reports and memoirist literature. The study is organized in four chapters. In chapter one, we outline the world of womens work, highlighting the diverse possibilities of being a woman in São Paulo during the nineteenth century, with the profound social, gender and racial inequalities of a slave country. In chapter two, we turn to the specific questions of female teaching, going through quarrels, knowledge, methods, salaries and numeric data of the instruction in a movement of comparison between the actions of the provincial government and the experiences of the public female teachers. In chapter three, we discuss three dimensions of access and transmission of public teaching among women in the nineteenth century: the family; entry through public entrance examinations and nominations; and the Seminar of Educandas, a São Paulo asylum of orphans as a female educational space that bequeathed the magisterium to some of its inmates. The last chapter presents the student body of the Sé womens school, considering that one of the significant dimensions of the teaching profession is its impact on the trajectory of the female population that attended public schools. The experiences of these women in the magisterium show how they made use of the existing possibilities, affirming, modifying and breaking with the most recurrent destinies; Beyond education, they tell about being a woman and the possible female protagonism in the nineteenth century.

City of Goiás, from 1832 to 1887. It seeks to understand the moment and space in which

da Cidade de Goiás, do ano de 1832 ao ano de 1887. Buscar-se-á compreender o momento e o
espaço em que estavam inseridas essas mulheres para adentrar no magistério público. Para tal,
serão analisadas as representações que foram, ao longo do tempo, construídas sobre elas e
mostrar-se-á como atuavam e se representavam neste espaço predominantemente masculino.
Trata-se de uma pesquisa sobre as primeiras professoras públicas da Cidade de Goiás, as

An exploration of the questions and concepts informing the process of developing and refining the visual vocabulary of my practice. Images of women, topographical maps, floral imagery and astronomical maps provide the vocabulary of the language and syntax that I am developing to enunciate the interrelationships between the construction of self and lived experience, with concepts of identity, body and gesture, history and place.

The thesis deals with the development of the secondary school teaching professionduring the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. The emphasisof the study is on the concurrence of three structural processes in this profession:feminization, professionalization and governmental bureaucratization.The "teachers of the people" found themselves deeply affected by radical economicand social structural changes during the transition from classical industrialcapitalism to organized capitalism at the end of the 19th century. These strucuralchanges aggravated the conflicts between the classes and the sexes in society, andthe elementary school became an important institution for social and ideologicalcontrol. But the teachers were not content to be the mindless instruments of thepredominant ideology. At an early stage the elementary school and the teachersthemselves began to live "a life of their own". Both male and female teachers beganto develop strategies in the struggle for power and control over their profession. The teaching of the lower classes was considered verysuitable for unmarried middle-class women, and the cheap female labour wasattractive to the politicians. Duringthe whole of the 19th century women were integrated into the professional project.At the turn of the century the men developed a strategy of social closure againstwomen, which meant that these were relegated to a lower level. At the same timethe government introduced regulations which were intended to impede women'sfast access to the profession.
