Information Worker Productivity Enabled by IT System Usage : A Complementary-Based Approach

Pashkevich, Natallia January 2016 (has links)
Assessing the conditions of productivity of individual workers who process information and use IT has been a concern for many researchers. Prior studies have applied different theoretical foundations to study the relationship between IT use and productivity at individual level in post adoption scenarios and have provided mixed results. In the last decades, the proposition that there is a need for a set of factors to be changed in a synchronized fashion when using an IT system has received particular attention. Very little, however, is known about the configurations of these factors at individual level. To investigate this gap, we have designed a new research model of an information worker’s individual productivity when a more aligned IT system is used in a synchronized manner with both individual and organizational factors. The formulated research model is grounded on the complementarity theory, functioning here as a meta-theory guiding the linking of productivity theory, Kirton’s adaption-innovation theory, and several theoretical bodies on the structure of production processes and human resource management. The formulated model was tested in two empirical studies – a longitudinal quasi-randomized field experiment and an online experiment – conducted to investigate configurations of complementary factors that increase productivity when a new, more aligned IT system is used. Overall, the two studies shed important light on configurations of complementary factors and the improvement of the research design to study their impact on IT-enabled productivity. The obtained results contribute to the research that focuses on individual information worker IT-enabled productivity as well as research that rests on the complementarity theory with new configurations of complementary factors that, when matched correctly, can increase individual productivity of information workers. Eventually, the studies presented here advocate that further research is needed to increase our in-depth understanding of complementary factors and their impact on individual IT-enabled productivity of information workers.

This research intends to investigate the relationships among governance environment, organizational structure, information technology governance, information technology use, and information technology performance. An empirical study was conducted to collect from Taiwanese companies. The result shows three major findings. First, small positive effect exists between information technology use and the alignment between governance environment and organization structure. Second, information technology use has positive effects on information technology performance. Finally, the relative governance of IT department does not affect IT use. This research helps organizations understand how information technology governance affects IT use and performance. Organizations could adjust their organization governance strategy to fir its structural and cultural environment in order to improve information technology performance.

SEEKING AND SHARING KNOWLEDGE USING SOCIAL MEDIA IN AN ORGANIZATION: THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL INFLUENCE, ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE AND SOCIAL CAPITAL

Schutz, Douglas Moore January 2013 (has links)
The prolific use of social media tools such as blogs and wikis is leading several organizations to adopt these tools. However, success of social media depends on its use by employees to share and seek knowledge. Based on a unique data set obtained from a large multi-national corporation, I examined three different aspects of knowledge seeking and sharing. First, I investigated two-sided network externalities on seeking and sharing. My analysis shows that significant network externalities occur not only at the demand side, which has been the primary focus in prior literature, but also at the supply as well as cross-sides (from supply to demand as well as from demand to supply). Second, I also explored the impact of hierarchical and geographical distribution on knowledge seeking and sharing. My results show that how a firm is structurally organized can yield different influences on the use of corporate social media based on whether the employee is seeking or sharing. Finally, I investigated the impact of social capital. New insights are captured in how different dimensions of social capital influence employee use of corporate social media for seeking and sharing knowledge within the organization. / Business Administration/Management Information Systems

Hur digitaliseringen har påverkat revisionsprocessen under covid 19

Yousef, Hakob, Tawkatli, Suaoud January 2022 (has links)
Digitalization is regarded as one of the most important forces in the world today. The unexpected covid-19 had its effects on the auditing process. The effects caused by covid-19 have been positive as well as negative. Many management had to adjust and rethink to find new solutions and methods to continue operating. The management was forced to make a digital transition to adjust to the situation. What is being investigated in this study is how the digitalization contributed to a more efficient auditing or less efficient. We will also like to see the consequnces of the IT-implementation in auditing companies. Previous studies has shown that smaller auditing firms is better equpped at using IT in the thier auditing process. This study will be using a qualitative research method in order to reach the purpose of the study. In order to use the qualitative research method, we used semi structured interviews. The interview concluded responses from 10 authorized auditors in different auditing firms. The conclusion from this study is as follows. The review phase was the most damaged by the rapid introduction of digitization. What is also confirmed is that there is a difference in digital condition between audit firms.

Digital omställning under Covid-19 : Hur har revisionsprocessen och kvalitetenpåverkats?

Demirian, Maria, Sarkis, Alice January 2022 (has links)
The unexpected outbreak of Covid19 that came in 2020 affected the entire world's population, industries and companies overnight. The auditing industry and its auditors have also been affected by the pandemic and the following crisis. Due to the crisis caused by the pandemic, many company managements have had to rethink and develop new strategies for continued operations. The audit companies and their auditors have been forced to make a digital transition and work remotely using digital tools to continue the audit work. The purpose of the study is to try to assess auditors' perceived change in the audit process and quality in connection with the digital transition that took place during Covid 19. We also want to see if the effects can be explained based on IT application and use depending on agency affiliation, as previous research indicates that smaller audit firms are better at IT implementation, use and are quicker to change. The study uses a qualitative research method in the form of semistructured interviews. The results were obtained by seven authorized auditors from audit firms of various sizes in Sweden. The conclusion that can be drawn from the study is that the pandemic has been a catalyst for digitization in t he auditing industry. Of the three parts of the audit process, the review phase was the most affected part, where the exchange of information was made more difficult, which led to longer lead times. The quality has not suffered to a large extent. It can be noted that there is a certain difference in digital conditions between audit firms.

There is a great need to justify the investments in this area and an expectation to promote superior performance from the use of IT resources and capabilities. Therefore, it is important to clarify the IT value and role in the firms. Changes and high velocity marketing contexts are major challenges to environmental organizations. In this sense, the IT use decisions should be able to mobilize IT resources and capabilities to respond to organizational environment changes and IT performance should be evaluated for their contribution to business processes, rather than to try linking on a direct relationship to overall performance in which many variables obscure the real IT value. This study is based on resource-based view of the firm (RBV), dynamic capabilities and complementarities of organizational resources. Two guidelines are proposed for IT use decisions. The first one is driven by IT reconfigurability and complementary capabilities. The second one is driven by IT infrastructure, personal and partnerships assets. The performance is evaluated by the IT use competences in terms of aspects of their functionality and market requirements relative to IT process. This empirical investigation assessed its goal considering a sample of professionals responsible for IT decision making and planning in Brazilian organizations. Datas were analyzed through partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM). The main results indicated strong and significant effects of capabilities-oriented IT use decisions over their assets-oriented. It was revealed that personal assets-oriented IT use decisions are the ones that influence the performance of IT funcionality competences. Finally, it was evident the importance of IT use decisions treatment as a dynamic capability even without the influence of the moderating effect of the turbulence of organizational environment. The main scholarly contributions are filling the gap of decisions involving the use of IT, its performance on process level within the organizational context of Brazil, and theoretical use of the resource-based view of the firm and dynamic capabilities as background able to promote IT value. Among the main contributions to professional practices stands out to take in account of reconfigurability and complementarity capability of IT resources in their use decisions along with other organizational resources so that they can get a better process performance. The study shows promising future researches in assessing the IT value and development of measures and constructs more appropriate to its evaluation.
