Актуальность исследования обуславливается тем, что банковская сфера в наше время является высоко конкурентной средой и в свете протекающей глобализации и консолидации финансового сектора наблюдается снижение количества частных банков, что вызвано, в свою очередь, процессами слияния, поглощения и неспособностью противостоять крупным агентам рынка, поддерживая необходимые требования, которые выставляются регуляторами. Финансовые институты вынуждены наращивать свой арсенал конкурентных преимуществ, активно использовать нераспределенную прибыль на формирование отличительных конкурентных факторов и заниматься мониторингом существующих предложений на рынке. Как следствие, кредитным организациям необходимо критически подходить к успехам и неудачам иностранных коллег, повышая эффективность банковского бизнеса, формируя собственные уникальные конкурентные преимущества. Целью диссертационной работы является оценка факторов повышения конкурентоспособности международного банка в разрезе сложившегося отечественного финансового сектора. Объектом диссертационного исследования выступает отечественный филиал АО «Райффайзенбанк». Предметом исследования является процесс формирования конкурентных преимуществ АО «Райффайзенбанк», система экономических, организационных и финансовых механизмов повышения эффективности деятельности банка. Результатами выпускной квалификационной работы являются разработка многофакторной модели формирования чистой прибыли, рекомендации по оптимизации существующих процессов и экономическая оценка эффектов от внедрения предлагаемых инструментов. / The relevance of the study stems from the fact that banking is a highly competitive environment and in light of the proceeding of globalization and consolidation of the financial sector, a decrease in the number of private banks, which caused, in turn, processes of mergers, acquisitions, and the failure to counter major market agents, while maintaining the necessary requirements that are set by regulators. Financial institutions are forced to increase their arsenal of competitive advantages, actively use retained earnings to form distinctive competitive factors and monitor existing offers on the market. As a result, credit institutions need to take a critical approach to the successes and failures of foreign colleagues, increasing the efficiency of the banking business, forming their own unique competitive advantages.

Designing Effective Derivative Line Filters: Utilizing convolution to extract extra information / Utformning av effektiva derivata-linjefilter: Användning av faltning för att extrahera extra information

The ability to generate accurate approximations of derivatives holds significant importance in numerous scientific fields, including chemistry, economics and fluid mechanics. This thesis is centred around extracting hidden information in data using Smoothness-Increasing Accuracy-Conserving (SIAC) filters. The target application is in calculating derivatives in simulations of fluid flow. SIAC filters are based on convolution. Because of the properties used to construct the convolution kernel, we are able to design post-processing filters that can extract extra derivative information with high accuracy. In the past, these filters have typically had a tensor-product structure, which requires multi-dimensional filtering. Because of this, the filtering process can be very computationally expensive. The goal of this thesis is to develop one-dimensional line filters that are able to extract the derivative information more efficiently. By utilizing line filters, we aim to significantly cut the computational cost of the filtering process, while also maintaining the high accuracy. / Att kunna generera approximeringar av derivator med hög noggrannhet har stor användning inom många vetenskapliga områden, inklusive kemi, ekonomi och strömningsmekanik. Denna uppsats är fokuserad på att extrahera dold information i data med hjälp av en specifik typ av faltningsfilter. Dessa filter kan öka kontinuitetsgraden av data utan att minska noggrannheten. Den avsedda tilläpningen för dessa filter är inom strömningsmekanik, framförallt beräkning av derivator i flöden. Tack vare egenskaperna som används för att konstruera faltningskärnan kan vi utforma efterbehandlingsfilter som kan extrahera derivatainformation med hög noggrannhet. Tidigare har dessa filter ofta haft en tensorproduktstruktur, vilket kräver flerdimensionell filtrering. På grund av detta har filtreringen ofta en hög beräkningskostnad. Målet med denna uppsats är att utveckla endimensionella linjefilter som kan extrahera derivatainformation mer effektivt. Syftet är att använda dessa linjefilter för att betydligt miska filtreringens beräkningskostnad och samtidigt behålla den höga noggrannheten.

Impact of salinization on rice production and farmers' adaptation preferences: a case in Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam

Das übergeordnete Ziel dieser Studie ist es, die Auswirkungen des Eindringens von Salzwasser auf den Reisanbau bei unterschiedlichen Salzgehalten zu analysieren und zu untersuchen, wie Veränderungen in den Reissortenoptionen innerhalb der nördlichen zentralen Küstenregion Vietnams dazu beitragen können, diese Auswirkungen zu reduzieren. Auf Böden mit hohem Salzgehalt, die für den Reisanbau nicht mehr geeignet sind, werden geeignetere Anpassungsstrategien gefordert, indem die Präferenz der Landwirte für verschiedene Anbaufolgen und die Faktoren, die ihre Präferenzen im Zusammenspiel mit verschiedenen Salzgehaltsstufen beeinflussen, untersucht werden. Die Studie untersuchte die Auswirkungen des Salzgehalts auf den Mittelwert und die Variabilität der Reiserträge in vier Gemeinden der Provinz und untersuchte mögliche Änderungen im Portfolio der Reissorten, die Erträge zu steigern und gleichzeitig die Ertragsvariabilität zu verringern. Außerdem wurden die Auswirkungen des Salzwassereinbruchs auf die Produktivität und die technische Effizienz der Reisfarmen im Untersuchungsgebiet bewertet. Im Gegensatz zu bestehenden Studien wurden in dieser Untersuchung die Auswirkungen der Bodenversalzung analysiert. Salztolerante Reissorten können die Erträge sichern, solange der Salzgehalt moderat ist, sind aber ungeeignet, sobald der Salzgehalt hoch ist. Dies führte zur Durchführung eines dritten methodischen Ansatzes, der mit Hilfe eines Choice-Experiments Informationen über die Präferenzen und Motivationen der Reisbauern für die Wahl zwischen dem Portfolio der lokal möglichen adaptiven und transformativen Optionen generierte. Die Adoptionsergebnisse der Befragten bei verschiedenen Versalzungsgraden wurden ebenfalls simuliert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich der Salzgehalt negativ auf die Reiserträge auswirkt, zu einer Erhöhung der Variabilität der Erträge beiträgt und die technische Effizienz von Reis in Abhängigkeit von den Reissorten verringert. / The overall objective of this study is to analyze the impact of saltwater intrusion on rice cultivation at different salinity levels and it also explores how changes in the rice cultivar options within the north central coastal region of Vietnam can help to reduce these impacts. In soils with high salinity levels which are no longer suitable for rice cultivation, more suitable adaptation strategies are called upon through examining farmers’ preference for different crop sequences and the factors affecting their preferences in the interaction with various levels of salinity. The study investigated impacts of salinity on mean and variability of rice yields in four communes of Thua Thien Hue Province and looked at possible changes in the portfolio of rice cultivars, which would offer farmers the potential to increase yields and decrease yield variability simultaneously. I also evaluated the impact of saltwater intrusion on the productivity and technical efficiency of rice farms in the study area. Contrasting to existing studies, this research analyzed season-differentiated impact of soil salinity. Salt tolerant rice varieties can secure yields as long as salinity levels are moderate but are inappropriate once salinity becomes severe. This led to the conduct of third methodological approach that generated information about rice farmers’ preferences and motivations for choosing among the portfolio of locally feasible adaptive and transformative options using a choice experiment. The respondents’ adoption outcomes at different salinity levels were also simulated. The results showed that salinity has negative impact on rice yields, contributes to an increase in variability of yields and reduces rice technical efficiency depending on rice varieties.

Effizienzsteigernde Methoden haben die Aufgabe, die Rechenzeit von Monte Carlo Simulationen zur Lösung von Strahlungstransportproblemen zu verringern. Dazu gehören weitergehende Quell- oder Geometrievereinfachungen und die Gewichtsfenstertechnik als wichtigstes varianzreduzierendes Verfahren, entwickelt in den 1950er Jahren. Die Schwierigkeit besteht bis heute in der Berechnung geeigneter Gewichtsfenster. In dieser Arbeit wird ein orts- und energieabhängiger Gewichtsfenstergenerator basierend auf dem vorwärts-adjungierten Generator von T.E. BOOTH und J.S. HENDRICKS für das Strahlungstransportprogramm AMOS entwickelt und implementiert. Dieser ist in der Lage, die Gewichtsfenster sowohl iterativ zu berechnen und automatisch zu setzen als auch, deren Energieeinteilung selbstständig anzupassen. Die Arbeitsweise wird anhand des Problems der tiefen Durchdringung von Photonenstrahlung demonstriert, wobei die Effizienz um mehrere Größenordnungen gesteigert werden kann. Energieabhängige Gewichtsfenster sorgen günstigstenfalls für eine weitere Verringerung der Rechenzeit um etwa eine Größenordnung. Für eine praxisbezogene Problemstellung, die Bestrahlung eines Personendosimeters, kann die Effizienz hingegen bestenfalls vervierfacht werden. Quell- und Geometrieveränderungen sind gleichwertig. Energieabhängige Fenster zeigen keine praxisrelevante Effizienzsteigerung. / The purpose of efficiency increasing methods is the reduction of the computing time required to solve radiation transport problems using Monte Carlo techniques. Besides additional geometry manipulation and source biasing this includes in particular the weight windows technique as the most important variance reduction method developed in the 1950s. To date the difficulty of this technique is the calculation of appropriate weight windows. In this work a generator for spatial and energy dependent weight windows based on the forward-adjoint generator by T.E. BOOTH and J.S. HENDRICKS is developed and implemented in the radiation transport program AMOS. With this generator the weight windows are calculated iteratively and set automatically. Furthermore the generator is able to autonomously adapt the energy segmentation. The functioning is demonstrated by means of the deep penetration problem of photon radiation. In this case the efficiency can be increased by several orders of magnitude. With energy dependent weight windows the computing time is decreased additionally by approximately one order of magnitude. For a practice-oriented problem, the irradiation of a dosimeter for individual monitoring, the efficiency is only improved by a factor of four at best. Source biasing and geometry manipulation result in an equivalent improvement. The use of energy dependent weight windows proved to be of no practical relevance.

An analysis of the role of the South African Police Service and the local government in crime prevention

Summary in English and Afrikaans / Crime is unwanted in any society because it brings about fear, anger and hatred. As people living in a world of constant change, we tend to strive for innovation which this research endeavours. The South African Police Service (SAPS) and all relevant role-players become partners in the fight against not only crime, but also community problems that threaten the well-being of inhabitants. Local Government is attempting to develop communities in municipal areas and SAPS primary function is to reduce crime. If crime is one of the main obstacles in improving the quality of life, then surely government authorities must take responsibility for local safety, and who better than these two key organisations taking the lead. This study investigates the roles of SAPS and Local Government in crime prevention in the Cape Winelands District Municipality; also whether their co-operation brings about fruitful results and what interventions are actively in place. It further explores whether their integrated approach has an impact on the safety and security of local communities. Lastly, it determines whether their collaboration is effective or not; and what additional improvements can be implemented, seeking new insights for future reference. Three hundred (300) questionnaires were distributed to senior management members of the SAPS and Local Government, as well as other relative stakeholders who contribute to increasing safety. Crime reduction influences all spheres of society, for example our economy, businesses, tourism etc. Reducing crime and building safer communities must be a priority for all South Africans. To achieve this, crime prevention programmes should be initiated at community level, since crime prevention involves responding to a few priority problems, using multi-agency approaches. Government legislation and policies urge both organisations to take the lead in implementing crime prevention projects which this study discovered. This analysis is not to re-invent the wheel but to find effective ways in strengthening partnership which leads to new knowledge in the field of crime prevention at local level. One of the basic needs of any community is the need for safety and security and this study aims to assist and contribute to increase safety using an integrated approach. / Enige samelewing het „n afkeur aan misdaad omdat dit angs, haat en negatiewe emosies aanwakker. Omdat die mensdom gedurig verandering in die gesig staar, poog hierdie navorsing om nuwe idees. Die Suid Afrikaanse Polisie Diens (SAPD) en ander rolspelers is vennote in die bekamping van misdaad, asook probleme wat die welstand van elke gemeenskap bedreig. Plaaslike owerhede beywer hulle om gemeenskappe te vestig terwyl misdaadbekamping die SAPD se primêre doel is. Hierdie studie ondersoek die rolle van die SAPD en plaaslike owerhede in die bekamping van misdaad binne die grense van die Wynland Distrikte Munisipailteit. Ook ondersoek hierdie studie of daar vrugbare uitslae en aktiewe maatreëls in plek is om misdaad hok te slaan. Verder ondersoek die studie of gesamentlike aksies enige impak op die gemeenskap se veiligheid en sekuriteit het. Risk-averse periodic preventive maintenance optimization

We consider a class of periodic preventive maintenance (PM) optimization problems, for a single piece of equipment that deteriorates with time or use, and can be repaired upon failure, through corrective maintenance (CM). We develop analytical and simulation-based optimization models that seek an optimal periodic PM policy, which minimizes the sum of the expected total cost of PMs and the risk-averse cost of CMs, over a finite planning horizon. In the simulation-based models, we assume that both types of maintenance actions are imperfect, whereas our analytical models consider imperfect PMs with minimal CMs. The effectiveness of maintenance actions is modeled using age reduction factors. For a repairable unit of equipment, its virtual age, and not its calendar age, determines the associated failure rate. Therefore, two sets of parameters, one describing the effectiveness of maintenance actions, and the other that defines the underlying failure rate of a piece of equipment, are critical to our models. Under a given maintenance policy, the two sets of parameters and a virtual-age-based age-reduction model, completely define the failure process of a piece of equipment. In practice, the true failure rate, and exact quality of the maintenance actions, cannot be determined, and are often estimated from the equipment failure history. We use a Bayesian approach to parameter estimation, under which a random-walk-based Gibbs sampler provides posterior estimates for the parameters of interest. Our posterior estimates for a few datasets from the literature, are consistent with published results. Furthermore, our computational results successfully demonstrate that our Gibbs sampler is arguably the obvious choice over a general rejection sampling-based parameter estimation method, for this class of problems. We present a general simulation-based periodic PM optimization model, which uses the posterior estimates to simulate the number of operational equipment failures, under a given periodic PM policy. Optimal periodic PM policies, under the classical maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian estimates are obtained for a few datasets. Limitations of the ML approach are revealed for a dataset from the literature, in which the use of ML estimates of the parameters, in the maintenance optimization model, fails to capture a trivial optimal PM policy. Finally, we introduce a single-stage and a two-stage formulation of the risk-averse periodic PM optimization model, with imperfect PMs and minimal CMs. Such models apply to a class of complex equipment with many parts, operational failures of which are addressed by replacing or repairing a few parts, thereby not affecting the failure rate of the equipment under consideration. For general values of PM age reduction factors, we provide sufficient conditions to establish the convexity of the first and second moments of the number of failures, and the risk-averse expected total maintenance cost, over a finite planning horizon. For increasing Weibull rates and a general class of increasing and convex failure rates, we show that these convexity results are independent of the PM age reduction factors. In general, the optimal periodic PM policy under the single-stage model is no better than the optimal two-stage policy. But if PMs are assumed perfect, then we establish that the single-stage and the two-stage optimization models are equivalent. / text
